    I'm sorry, but this will be the only middle of the road review you'll get out of me because I want so badly to like Jimbo's. The thing is, Jimbo's is an institution in Lakeland. They've catered NUMEROUS events when I went to Dixieland as a kid, and I've eaten there many times outside of catered events. They're as Lakeland to me as Munn park, the Civic Center or the library on Lake Morton. I dont know what it is about that place though, but quite frankly it seems that they have all the food prepared beforehand in the freezer and then they reheat as ordered. Nothing has that "fresh cooked" taste, and it always feels microwave warm. Their ribs and sauce are phenomenal after i take them home and heat them back up; but eating in the restaurant? Cold. Which is why I havent eaten here in a very long time; I'm tired of the cold food. I'm tired of the cold room. Part of why I believe they reheat everything is their Mac and Cheese. I've ordered it every time I go there, and I always wait a half hour for it to be ready; only for it to still be cold. They certainly arent baking a small side order of mac and cheese for 30 minutes, you know? Especially if two other tables are sat and they didnt order it. It's never busy there (maybe 5 tables are full when i'm there), and I like that; but...one could wonder why... It's almost like they were so in with the microwave movement when they were the new invention on the market that they never moved away from microwaving their food. They've been around long and near enough to be at the forefront of it. I really like the peppers and pickles they give when you sit down, but I dont go there for that. That's called a "bonus". What you munch on when you're ordering your drinks and what you're really there to eat. The other issue I have with eating in the restaurant is that it's always cold in there. I also believe that contributes to the temperature of the food. I mean, it's freezing; I bring a jacket every time I go in. I'm not a 90lb girl, and I'm not one of those "shorts in the freezing winter" assholes either; but when it's cold in a restaurant and I notice it every time I'm there: it's a problem. As for the flavor? Like I said, the ribs are really good... when they're hot. The sauce usually makes or breaks BBQ and their sauce is certainly one of the best I've had. The mac and cheese, when it's hot, is also really good. Baked beans are good when they're hot; which compared to most others they appear pretty plain; but they arent out of a can, the sauce proves that. Everything there to my knowledge is made from scratch, which is braggable; except for the fact that it's served cold. Did you notice "when they're hot"? I've taken to ordering my food and taking it home to heat up. It's a shame that part of wanting to eat out, is not wanting to eat at home, and ribs arent really something i prefer to eat at home. It's kind of like this: show me a decent chinese restaurant in lakeland i can sit at and i wont eat just chinese take out when i want chinese food. So when I want ribs; I want to eat in the restaurant, and because i dont want to take my ribs home and reheat them is why i havent eaten there in months. Sad to say, Rib Crib gets more patronage out of me; and they arent REALLY that special except they're the only one in the southeast united states; and Sonnys? yeah that too, but i'm really not proud of eating there when i do. I recommend eating the food, except order it to go and heated up to an eating temperature when you get home or eat it catered; unless they've figured out a way to cater the food cold(but I remember it being hot when I ate it catered). The people making commentary on the decor? Really? Shut up. It's a 50 something year old rib restaurant in a relatively middle size town in a sort of ok part of it; if you expect anything more than wood everywhere, pigs, and paper towel rolls on the table: You are invalid. It's called "Charm" and it's highly likely you dont have any. This place is an institution. It's been in this town for decades. Something somewhere has gone awry because it seems to really coast on that when other restaurants that operate in the same fashion dont coast for very long. While I want them to change the temperature of the food; and because I believe it's all prepared before it's reheated in a microwave; calling for that to change feels like it would be a huge upheaval for the place, and one that may end up hurting it. Some places that old change how they operate and it hardly ends well for them. Jimbo's, just stop coasting. Pick your game back up. Right now you make me sad. I dont think I used enough semi colons in my review; so here are a few more: ;;;;

    My bf grew up eating at Jimbos. Both times i went to Fl he had us stop here to eat. It is fantastic. Being from CT, i do not eat bbq often. Jimbos has spoiled me! The hush puppies are amazing. The bbq sauce is delicious. Im sad i will not be able to eat here again until my next trip to lakeland.

    The staff was pleasant but the food was in so small of a portion that it wasnt worth it. Spent 20 dollars and didn't get more than a snack. The returant is crowded as well.

    Exactly what a barbecue should be. Rustic tables, friendly service, and great food cooked properly. No frills and a satisfied stomache. This my new guilty pleasure in Lakeland , Florida. I'll be back next visit.

    Pork sandwich with fries and Mac n cheese is really good. Might not look like much on the outside or inside, but the food is really good. Not to mention the hush puppies.

    Stopped in for lunch the other day. Asked the waitress what kind of wood they used to smoke the meat. She didn't know. The chopped pork tasted like man which. The ribs were ok. They had really good sauce, but it only helped a little. The hush puppies were great though!

    Not bad. Lunch was brought in for our meeting this afternoon from Jimbo's. This was our first experience eating Jimbo's BBQ. We had ribs, chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, hush puppies, and apple pie. The club has had this bbq before so we figured let's stay and eat. All-in-all pretty good. I have to be truthful I did not like the coleslaw but that is my own taste since I like a sweet slaw. I would eat their bbq again if up in the area for another trip.

    Stopped in thinking it would be a local bbq joint with some killer Q. It is a local bbq joint for sure, but when you walk in you cant help feel like it needs a good scrubbing from top to bottom. My table was sticky and the the tea had a funny taste to it. I got the pork sandwich with fires and beans, beans were average, fries were a little under cooked and mushy. Pork was a small portion and didn't seem to have any flavor, I had to go with sauce to make it through the sandwich. I really wanted to give it 2/12 stars but with the sticky tables and dirty floor I just cant bring myself to give it 3 stars.

    The ribs were not tender, slaw was dry and the beans not good. BBQ sandwich was ok. We have been there a couple of times, just not our type of BBQ, do not like the sauce either.

    Jimbo's has been here since 1964. Good food. Low prices.

    I got some of their take-out tonight, and it was a bit of a disappointment. The chicken and ribs were so-so, not a lot of flavor but both juicy off the bone. Beans on the mushy side, but the hush puppies and slaw were pretty decent. I gave an extra star for friendly service and atmosphere.

    Good down home BBQ. Great, fun atmosphere with no frills. It's been a local favorite since 1964, so you know that they are doing something right! Love the home made pickle (try them with BBQ sauce) & pickled cherry peppers! The fresh made apple & cherry pies are awesome! With apple cider sauce a la mode, fab!!

    If atmosphere is everything, this is a fun BBQ place to be. Divey, decorated in pig paraphernalia, potties out back, picnic table seats. (a former drive-in). 47 years of operation-BBQ icon for the area. A variety of meats including fish. Grill out back makes the place smell yum if you like to eat out by the road. I find their pork and chicken only "mediocre" but the atmosphere makes ya smile. They have one kind of BBQ sauce, served warm. Very vinegary. Great potato salad, great cole slaw. Nice sweet baked beans. Apple pie is delish. Love the pot 'o pickles while you wait. Five main sandwiches run $4. Platters run $7 with two sides and hush puppies. Pepsi beverages. By prior arrangement, they will smoke your family turkey for you.....DIne in/take out, convenient to the highway (98).
