Friendly people and great food! This is the kind of local place I love finding. Good omllets and home fries. If I didn't live so far it would my go to breakfast spot. Yummy!

German roaches! While I loved to support small business, and I did enjoy the food, my experience was ruined when my wife and I both discovered small German roaches in both restrooms (I was going to hide that fact from my wife, but she told me first). This wasn't a middle of night visit but breakfast at 8 am. I hated downgrading my review but I expect a cleanly, vermin free restaurant. Considering the fact that the restrooms are right next to the kitchen, I don't want to imagine the pantry at night. This isn't just a complaint but a health issue. Sorry but I won't return any longer.

Forget the chain restaurants, this place is the real deal. My wife and I were wanting a late breakfast and didn't want the greasy, loud and impersonal feel of the crackelbies found nearby. The food was great, priced extremely fairly, no loud muzak, super friendly wait staff. We are going back tomorrow.

About what you'd expect for a neighborhood diner; good food, not much ambiance, limited selections, mostly sandwiches for lunch. Sandwiches not particularly well stuffed but prices were low plus we had a coupon for buy one get one free so it was a great value; two sandwiches and two drinks for seven dollars and change. Waitress took her time making the initial contact, but once she did she was friendly and helpful.

Open @ 7 AM M-F, 8 AM S/S. Nice, little friendly restaurant. Great for a quick breakfast. Located across from Regal Acura/Honda in Lakeland. Always good. Open thru lunch only. Was there again on 5/11/12, food is perfectly cooked! Love it!

After the outstanding reviews, I decided to revisit. The place is still on the dingy side. The menu has many "cute" named breakfast dishes and lots of delicious-looking omelettes so maybe I am basing my review on ordering the wrong thing. I asked for a BLT. To me, the tomato is the key to the sandwich. I waited almost 15 minutes for something that should take the length of time of a toaster toasting. There was a VERY thinly sliced single tomato (with a yellow knot "core", not so good a slice) in the center of the sandwich, not covering 50% of the sandwich. The bacon was too thick, well done, and dry. The rye a very thin sliced piece of bread. $4. It pretty much tasted like a bacon only sandwich. The soda was flat, served in a quart mason jar--no handle and hard to hold, being so fat around. I didn't find it "cute" or convenient. Had the server been more friendly and attentive, I would've tried the chocolate pie advertised. (Friendly with the regulars to the point of preoccupied.) I do remember their gravy as wonderful. They have a fish fry on Fridays. This is the only eats place in this area which would prompt me to eat there if in the area. I would not pass other places to eat here tho. 8/2015. 2 stars plunged to 1 star. When half the tables are empty but dirty and 4 people are manning the register, there's something wrong with the picture. I ordered 3 pancakes ($4) and a side of hash browns ($1). A can of Diet Coke came in the ridiculous pint jar. I'd rather have had a warm can. No refills and $2. The pancakes and hash browns came drenched in large black flecks. I did not like participating in the "Clean the grill" effort. yuk. They had no flavor and were crusty on the outside and gooey in the thick middle. YUK. The butter to put on them was melted in the tubs and the syrup container was sticky from prior users. Including tip, this was $9 for crappy food, dirty table, screaming babies and blah service.

Good food, low prices! I had the eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, and biscuit with gravy. The bacon was a tad too salty, but everything else was great! The sausage gravy was very good. And the cold drinks come in mason jars, so cool. I really love local diner type restaurants like this. Word to the wise, Charlie's closes at 2pm.

Charlie's is a cute little spot on the corner of a plaza across from Tiger Stadium. It is a greasy spoon with cheap eats that are fantastic. I ordered the breakfast in a nest and hubs got the covered eggs. Mine was delicious! Rye bread with a cutout for the eggs. Bacon was crisp and the hashbrowns were perfectly cooked. The gravy on the covered eggs? Some of the best I have ever had. The waitress was friendly and helpful; she suggested breakfast in a nest. We will definitely be back!

Not your average sticky table greasy spoon. They serve great high cholesterol food. I particularly love the Eggs in a Nest. My boyfriend likes the smothered covered sausages. You will leave feeling uncomfortably full. The environment is very outdated. I think the Golden Girls decorated the bathroom. But what they lack in ambiance they make up for in lavishly grease coated food. YUMM.
