Oscar Jiron Cafeteria

Absolutely authentic dining experience! The place is kind of a hole in the wall, and unair-conditioned, but it is our favorite Cuban restaurant in Key West. It is mostly patronized by locals. In addition to the foods available at the little cafeteria line there are things that are made to order, such as whole fried fish (lightly floured and crispy) and chicken tacos. Be sure to ask. The slaw is made with a light lime dressing rather than mayo. The black beans and rice are divine, and so is the soup. You can get beer here but not wine or liquor. They will let you bring in your own.
Oscar Jiron is a Nicaraguan carry-out with seven chairs, and the finest Central American food I have eaten in the United States. There is no street signage or building number, so I include a photo. The establishment is on the right as you descend White Street towards Higgs Beach. (I showed the picture to a native Nicaraguan at my guest house; he said the façade was typical for a restaurant in his country.) The food is copious, flavorful and inexpensive, with half a dozen daily specials including beef, pork and chicken. (There's no written menu.) I had a heap of roast pork with white rice, plantains and baked beans. The grilled flavor of the meat was top notch. This tiny establishment does a brisk take-out business; most of the clientele spoke Spanish and appeared to know Mr. Jiron, the owner, personally. If you want to escape the tourist crowd at B O's Fish Wagon, save money and have a simple wonderful meal -- this is your place!

Actually had Christmas dinner here when on vacation in Florida over the holidays... It's pricey, but it is very very good French fare. All the pate and escargot type dishes are in play, with some nice tropical twists. I am pretty sure this is the highest-end standalone restaurant in the Keys, and it serves the purpose well!

So good! Shop is clean. Staff was pleasant, attentive, and helpful. Had the banana nut ice cream and it was to die for! Will definitely go back next time we're in Key West.
Went to 2 Scoops at 9:15 and the sweet girls were cleaning up, but they immediately stopped what they were doing and gave my family of 5 awesome customer service. We are from the DFW, TX area and have some great homemade icecream shops, but this one hits my top 5 list! Look for the 5 Guys located right beside it, because it can be hard to spot at night, but definitely worth the drive around town. Had the toasted banana and a scoop of peanut butter super yummy. Daughters had the cinnamonbun flavor- you could taste the cinnamon bun in the icecream. All of it was heavenly. It is a must stop for icecream lovers. :)
Best Ice cream milk shake i have ever had! Went back everyday! They also hve cakes, cupcakes, pastries, and cake pops! They allow you to sample as many flavors as you want. Great customer service as well!!

I'm a local and we actually live about 2 blocks away from Luigi's. When we first saw it we were skeptical just because so many new restaurants are always starting up, but after eating there twice (once we picked up a couple of slices to go around 6pm and once we ordered delivery around 9pm) we are hooked! They have top notch, fresh ingredients and aren't skimpy with the portions. Also the service was great and speedy. We'll definitely eat there again soon!

A little known gem. This restaurant is located in the backyard of an old inn in the heart of Key West. The outdoor seating area is situation the base of a massive banyan tree equipped with stairs and a partial tree house. Dinner is served according to a schedule set by the owner. From my understanding, this occurs once per week for a couple of Friday night seatings between late fall and spring. Ours began at 5:30, so the crowd consisted of mostly retirees - who I'd imagine are some of the few people who know this place even exists. I believe there may also be an occasional brunch/lunch served, but one should probably check before taking my word on this. The rest of the time, the facility is just used for lodging. There is only one entree served at each seating, but this is apparently differs each week according to the owner's fancy. We had a seat right next to the banyan tree, and after the restaurant's only waiter brought us out a hodge podge of whatever wine was around in the back, we ate a delicious meal of shrimp pasta. The presentation of the entire meal felt more like a cookout in the backyard of a friend who can cook really well, rather than a formal dining experience, but this was part of the appeal. A truly unique Key West experience!

Key West Bed and Breakfast

We stayed in the TFB (Third Floor Back) room. The bed & pillows were comfortable, the room & bathroom were clean, the day bed was comfy enough for a nap & the balcony had a calming view of roof & treetops. The cool tub (it wasn't heated since it was Sept) was perfect to cool off in on a sweltering day. The staff were so friendly & helpful we felt like we were visiting friends. Location is ideal since it's only half a block from Eaton St Seafood (yummy lobster sandwiches) & only a 10 mins stroll to the wharf. Duval St is only a 15 mins stroll away. So it's away from the noise of Duval but close enough that you can walk back to your room after a night enjoying the activities on Duval. We're definitely staying with them again if we go back to Key West.
We stayed at this place based on a yelp review. What a wonderful place to stay on your visit to Key West! Unfortunately, we only got to stay for one day. But next time I go, I'm staying at this B&B for at least 3 days! Previously, none of us had stayed at a bed and breakfast before. The rooms were super comfortable, clean, and unique! Its colonial style and awesome staff give this place 5 stars. You are literally treated like royalty from the time you enter the door. The owners/workers are so hospitable that you feel like you are at home! We wanted to make the best of our one day in Key West, so when we got to the B&B, we rented some of their comfy bikes and rode through key west seeing the sights and beaches. The B&B had recommended we go to Alonzo's Oyster House for happy hour, and we took them up on their advice! We were out and about most of the night, but when we came back, this place was great to get a restful nights sleep. We ate a homemade breakfast in the morning (continental style with papaya, grapefruit, fresh squeezed OJ, bagels, and homemade bread) and left Key West hoping to return again soon. Stay here! You'll love it!
Finally getting this written from a trip a couple months ago. Loved this place, 4 of us "girls" on a getaway had the King and Bates rooms on the first floor, it felt like we practically had our own living room and kitchen, it was right around the corner. We had to adjust our reservations twice, due to our needs and they were fabulous about it. Liz checked us in and was very helpful, maps and directions, recommendation on restaurants, they even keep a bottle of aloe lotion in the frig for sunburn. The breakfast - every day there was a different freshly baked item, with a big selection of fruits, bagels, spreads and of course coffee. Worked great carrying it out to the tables by the dip pool. Coffee and breakfast starts at 8:30 and they need the kitchen clear of people for an hour before. I need my early morning coffee so I just had my instant packets and nabbed boiling hot water from the bottled water dispenser before they started, worked fine till I could get the real thing. The rooms - We went in April, so it was warm with more heat in the afternoon. The rooms had AC but not the common rooms - historic, and they make it clear so it's not a surprise but I wondered how comfortable it would be in summer. Beds and sheets very soft and rooms are spacious. The bathrooms clearly on add-ons, well done but be ready for small ones in these rooms anyway. We had our own bathrooms but I peeked in the 2nd floor shared baths and they were clean and well supplied, I would have been fine with those too. All in all, a wonderful stay in an original Conch house, for a very reasonable price.

Pierogi Polish Market

Valerie W. teased me for coming here and said I'm probably the only person who'd seek out and find Polish goodies on a tropical vacation. It's a badge I'm proud to wear. The shit is legit! The shop itself is a bit small, but it's packed with tons of cookies, juices, spices and other favorites from the Eastern Bloc! They have a nice selection of smoked meats and cheeses near the register, too. But the kitchen is what you need to come for! An hour after the shop opens, a small window on the side opens and the kitchen starts churning out some of the best pierogi I've found in the US. I ordered a dozen cheese/potato and a dozen meat. They even have sour cream available there, so I didn't have to stop anywhere before going back to my friends' place and digging in. I know Polish cuisine might be odd in the Keys, but you need to make a stop here!
Stopped by to grab some pierogi and was very impressed. You get 6 for $5.49 or mix them for $5.99. We order a couple different ones and they were delicious. They also have a Polish Grocery store attached for fun candies and spices and such.
Stumbled across this place while walking to find some Cuban food. It had been a long while since I had true perogies. My impulse visit didn't let me down at all; after fumbling thru broken polish-english, the owner talked me into the 6 pack for starters. Great snack for the pedestrian life of Key West! Oh and yes my sweet tooth bought all kinds of polish chocolate cookies inside their grocery store.

Great place for locals and visitors. I stop by the bar almost every day when I am in town. Prices are reasonable and the staff is friendly and attentive. Very Key West feel without the crowds on Duval Street. A hidden treasure. I own 3 townhouses here and rent two of them on homeaway 3472045 and 3881403 The bar and Marina were key reasons I bought there and my guests like it so much.
Not just for timeshare guests. This little gem is located within the Coconut Mallory resort. If you want to sit out by the water, have a cheap beer this is a place to do it. The draft beers served in ice cold mugs are only 2.50 This was the filming location for a short-lived TV show about a reporter in Key West. It hasn't changed much since the television show (you can find on YouTube) Locals gather here along with guest of the the resort. Not a full bar just beer and wine.
I can't believe I've lived here this long and have never been to this bar. Old town has nothing on this place. Beer and wine only but that's all you need. On the water open air bar. Kayak & bike rental, fishing from the dock, they rent poles and sell bait if you don't have your own. I was there for the first time on Sunday. The owner was on hand and is a great guy. They also had a cookout of burgers and dogs that was free to all patrons. Glad I found it and can't wait to go back.

Friends recommended we stay here and were they right! From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we couldn't stop raving about the place, location and of course the owners. We arrived late afternoon on a Friday night and Lynn called us to make sure we we're arriving and to set up our late check in. We arrived and our room and keys were clearly labels with a map of the grounds and key west. Cozy room on the second floor with a balcony and pool! You are literally next to the iconic Green Parrot, down the street from the beach, Hemmingway's house and Duval is a block up. You can't get a better location! There is a bike rental and scooter rental across the street and liquor/beer store next door. Great BBQ around the corner too! We met Lynn, Keith and Lou the next morning at breakfast along with the other guests. Everyone was super friendly, and Lynn knew everyone's names. Breakfast is fantastic forms eggs, banana pancakes to Belgium waffles and everything in between Lou will whip it up for you! By the time you finish breakfast, read the paper and socialize with guests and Lynn your room is made up with fresh towels and you are ready to start your day. They have beach towels and chairs and floats for you right at the pool along with sunscreen and bug spray. We were so grateful because Lynn took care of setting up the taxi for our departure and even gave us a late check out so we could enjoy our last day in the keys. So hospitable, and lovely people! (you can take the person out of ny but you can't take the new yorker kindness out of them. ;) ) We look forward to going back soon! tripadvisor.com/ShowUser…
Coco Plum Inn is one of the few remaining Key West Bed & Breakfasts and my new favorite place to stay while I am visiting Old Town. Located a block off of central Duval, and next to the Green Parrot, Coco Plum Inn is walking distance to most everything you would want to see in Key West, while still feeling hidden. The property comprises two double-porched, historic buildings with a courtyard and pool in the center. We stayed in the Deluxe Queen room and had a secluded balcony with a view of Duval and the gardens below. The energy of this place is amazing, as the hosts are extremely friendly and talkative, helpful, and make delicious made-to-order breakfasts. Depending on the room, you may share a common entryway with other guests, which adds to the lax vibe of the Keys. We met some friendly couples on our trip staying at the resort, and the breakfast seating allows for mingling. This is hospitality at its best, where you feel like you are staying with friends in an amazing locale. Prices are on the low end for Old Town and the value here is unparalleled.
We drove to Key West for the day, saw a vacancy sign and decided to stay the night. No clothes ... nothing, not even a charger. When we walked in we were greeted by Sara, the fluffiest, friendliest cat, so we knew we were in the right place. We didn't do much but shower and sleep for a few hours there but it was quiet and within walking distance of Duval St and Mallory Square so it was perfect for what we needed. The inside was modern and very comfortable but the best part was large private porch, wonderful for sipping coffee (or any beverage of your choice) and enjoying the beautiful weather. To top off our adventure, we were able to walk to the Southern Most Point and watch the sunrise. We didn't stay for breakfast but it sounded delicious (all the fixings). We will definitely look into staying here again. We may even live dangerously and bring a toothbrush next time.

If you want a mix of keys feel and five star restaurant food, this is the place. You may have to wait but there is corn hole to entertain you while you wait. The wait staff greets you warmly and has water before you even order your drinks. Food and apps come quickly. The kids ate all their food they loved it!!! The best part for family's is they have a wii for the kids. My husband and I felt like we had a date night. This is a must go kinda place for the lower keys!!!
Hands down the best dinner we have had in Key West in our week here. We walked in and the hostess/waitress told us to sit where we liked so we took a very cozy table for two. Immediately , the owner Scott came over and introduced himself and asked if we would like a bigger table, worried that we were assigned the smaller table. We started with the Korean BBQ steak tacos which came with steak fries which were def made in house. My gf left me the tacos and just ate the fries as an appetizer which was fine by me! As a main course I had the Cuban roast pork with rice and beans and plantains . The pork was roasted in a banana leaf- a added bonus in had never tried before. It was delicious and would have been worth 3 or 4 stars on its own but it really paled in comparison to the "Rasta Pasta" that my girlfriend ordered. This is hemp oil macadamia nut pesto over angel hair pasta with added shrimp. Delicious and I'm sorry I didn't order it for myself!! We ended with a slice of the key lime pie which was huge, delicious and came with an awesome raspberry swirl to dip with. This place is a must eat restaurant when in the keys!
This restaurant was the highlight of all the amazing food of Key West. You must come here! The staff were so friendly the owner even greeted us and thanked us. The food was delicious the chicken was so juicy and seasoned to perfection along with the coconut rice and vegetables (Chicken Cheryaki) I kept talking about this meal for a while. If I ever go back this is the place I am heading to. I asked our server if he had pink lemonade and the clever man replied "i can make it pink" and ehh I got a pink lemonade =). Even their bathrooms are cute! and they have some game by the lot where you need to get a sand bag into a hole which was a lot of fun.
