Have you ever been to a locals-only chain? My mind has been blown. I have never seen a community take to such a place before in my life. Eyes were definitely on us as we walked in, clearly the out-of-towners. I felt like we'd stepped into the midwest. It's shabby-chic in the only way a diner can be. Have you ever been to a Bob Evans? It's like that, but more shabby and smells like BBQ instead of biscuits and gravy. You're greeted by someone with an accent that seems authentic as all get out, gum chewing and lip smacking like it's their job. They know just about everyone in there but you, and they know what they're ordering before they sit down. Menus aren't necessary. That's dedication. Double check the chairs before you sit down. I almost fell through mine upon sitting. The menu has just about every BBQ combination you could ask for with just about every side. The meals run in the $7-$12 range with a special for every day of the week. While you decide your protein overload, you can drink sweet tea by the gallon. They keep that stuff refilling so fast that it doesn't ever feel like you've sucked anything down. While the combo was a hell of a deal (2 meats, 2 sides + toast for $9), I didn't need that kind of portions wreaking havoc on my stomach on the flight to Houston. Brisket sandwich, please. Sweet potato on the side. Cold bun, a fat pile of salty, tender brisket, average sized sweet potato bordering overly roasted but still really good, and various sauces for your saucing pleasure. The highlight of the meal was the single serving cinnamon Country Crock spread (mostly kidding). It made that sweet potato that much better. None of the sauces really did it for me. A mild and a hot. A Carolina and a sweet. I think there was a mustard in there, too. I tried them all and kept on eating my brisket plain. None of them were worth the effort of squeezing. Did we save room for dessert? God no. But our server was prompt, split our check without an issue (take note, Portland) and wished a good day. PS - While they don't have wet naps, they have a washing station in the dining room so you can get all that sauce off your grubby paws. I appreciate that.

The serves was great but the food was not. I got chicken strips and fries and I would have been better off going somewhere else. I might try them again in a year or so.

$13 for totally dried out meat not even marinated! They give you these packets of sauce like the dipping sauce at McDonalds. The place is empty. Won't be returning.

Stopped at this location at the urging of a friend, around 7:30p. Parking lot was empty. Walked in, there was one guy sitting at the bar. NO waitstaff visibile. Waited a few minutes (my companion REALLY wanted BBQ), and someone eventually came from the back kitchen area, talking on a cell phone, and delivered menus. Took drink orders, and those came out wrong. The dinner crowd picked up, but the wait staff didn't seem to care to much about being prompt. My drink went dry more than twice. My dinner was ok -- not great, not horrible. The BBQ beans were the best part, the cole slaw was forgettable. This is an older Woody's, and it shows. Likely won't be back.

Great place for BBQ!!! Friendly cheerful staff, you always feel like a local here. Nice to have a place to get a full lunch at a good price.

I have eaten at most of the BBQ chains in Jax. I have eaten at other Woodys. I have a shop in the neighborhood and make it a point to eat here at least once a week. The daily specials and lunches are reasonably priced. To get the best tasting food, get there early to beat the lunch rush. Not sure what the other folks are writing about rude servers and uncleanliness. This place has been a fixture on this corner for a long time. If these things were true, it couldn't have lasted this long. You can tell that the core of workers have been there for years. They may have had a bad day, so I would encourage anyone to come back and give them another shot. I have never had a meal here I didn't like. No one has ever eyeballed me or made me feel uncomfortable and they have a kids eat free night.

One of the worst woodys I have ever been to. The server was rude and the turkey was very dry. The drinks were flat. I will not be returning to this place. Again the ser er was the rudest women I have ever met she she should continue a other line of work.
