The family wanted pizza, but we didn't want the typical chain. I spotted Tony D's a few days earlier, and vowed to return. We walked right in and seated ourselves. Our server, Jason, was very attentive and helpful, and funny! I don't drink Bud products, but you cannot beat a $1 bottle of Bud during happy hour. We started off with a small order of the garlic knots. The knots themselves were pipping hot and lightly dusted with garlic.. The accompanying marinara was fresh and had a meaty flavor. If you read my previous reviews, my kid does not like pizza. Before I even get in on the pizza review, know that my daughter actually ate a slice! We ordered the NY Special which is a loaded pie. It was exactly the size you would expect from a NY sized crust. The pizza crust was perfectly cooked and crunchy. The flavor was just phenomenal. The toppings were plentiful and to call it loaded might not do it justice. The pizza sauce wasn't overpowering and had a rich flavor that just tied it all together nicely. Great service, great food. As mentioned before, it's a little expensive, but worth every penny. My pie was slightly over $24, but when you see what's all on it, and then taste it.... Trust me, it's worth the price! You just cannot go wrong! This is a place that I would expect to see on Diners, Drive-In's, and Dives. I'm going to recommend that Guy checks it out, and you should too! This was no kidding the best pie I have ever had.

Great pizza, truly fresh made to order. Only thing is I would leave off the fresh tomatoes as they release too much juice as they cook. Yes I will go back!

Tony D's is handsdown my favorite pizza joint in Jax. I LOVE real pizza. I find it very difficult to find a pizza place that has a combination of good tasting crust that I want to eat and not leave on the plate, thin and not over powering sauce, and great tasting cheese. This is how pizza should be. You shouldn't be able to take a slice of pizza, throw it against a wall, and it still be intact, like you can do with chain restaurant pizza places like Papa Johns and Dominoes. It's not natural. Tony D's has the winning combination for my pizza taste buds. I've never dined in. My husband and I always get pizza to go. It can get quite pricey depending on what you order, but you get what you pay for -real quality ingredients. Two 14 inch extra cheese pizzas can run around 25 bucks, but it's worth it. A tip to make things cheaper: Tuesday is 2 for 1. Fantastic deal I must say. My husband and I usually just get extra cheese because the cheese is so incredible. We've had and used to get the typical toppings like pineapple, bacon, pepperoni, sausage, and mushroom. The pizza really doesn't need any toppings though. We always end up going back to the extra cheese because it's so tasty it can stand on it's own. They really pack it on and make a nice thick layer. It's always really gooey and if really really hot, it starts to slowly..... slowly.... slide when you pick it up. This isn't a bad thing, it's a good thing!! That's what real quality cheese is supposed to do. Cheese shouldn't stay put on a piece of pizza when you turn it upside down. C'mon now. The crust is flavorful and not too thin and not too thick. The sauce is always put on in a nice thin layer and I never feel like I have to scrape any excess off. They have a bunch of speciality pizzas as well. We've only had the Meatball Parm Pizza, which is incredible. It has a ton of huge sliced meatballs, cheese, and big dollups of ricotta on top. So good. It's so filling that this one pizza could feed 2 people and be completely stuffed. We've always had fine customer service from here, but like I said we've never dined in. If you notice with the other reviews though, people say the food is great but service isn't so great at times. I would tell you to try this place on a Tuesday for their 2 for 1 deal and take it home. Don't let a few customer service issues people have had stop you from trying this great pizza!

Tony D's was outstanding! I was in town on business and had a taste for pizza. I ordered the small Sicilian pizza at Tony D's and it was excellent. The staff was also excellent. Alivia had my table and was very helpful and personable. She did a great job making sure that I had everything that I needed. Tony D's is going on my list of places to eat when visiting Jacksonville.

First we were greeted by our server Kennedy who was very prompt, pleasant, and informative offering slugfest ion for our 1st time. Never once did I have to ask for a refill (big deal when I rate service) !!! 2nd we soon brought fresh hot garlic knots with piping hot sauce for dipping very good flavor!! Then our pizza game.. We got the meat lovers and I must say it was very very good!! Great crust, great amount of cheese and toppings, and not overloaded with sauce !!! Very solid 4 stars and will surely be back !!!

Went their for the first time last night with a coupon. I didn't even have to say a word the coupon was picked up and they not only honored it but gave me more than it stated it was worth. The service was excellent- our drinks never went empty. Our table was pre-bussed. Their presentation is unique and awesome. I can't say enough about how great our experience was. It motivated me to write my first YELP review ever. Thank you for such a great night- we will be back and will be bringing people!

I'm on the move today and I'm a Jersey girl so I figured I'd try tony ds. I'm all about trying to place that says they're from New York or New Jersey the difference is I can actually pick the difference he seemed a little disorganized when I got in but the pizza was ok. netter than most but not in my top 5 Since they are from New York that's a little bit of an attitude and pizza very greasy. I would try again just not sure what

I was in town on business and looking for a nice local place to get an inexpensive lunch. I am very finicky with my star levels so you had better be out of this world to get 5 stars. That being said Tony's gets a strong 3 stars on my rating scale. This was a successful stop for lunch as it is a clean, friendly place with solid food and a place to relax and not rush. There are so many choices and cleanliness and friendliness are on the top of my list before I even take a bite of food. The nice woman who took my order and served me was attentive, friendly and fast and my lunch was really good. I just had a side salad, slice of cheese and a drink for $6.50 and it was terrific. I'll be back.

Very good find. Definitely a similarity to Manhattan pizza. Good daily specials & pizza has a nice consistency crust. Loved the white pizza, but the meatball park slice was good too; a bit heavy on the sauce. Big place, can see having a biz lunch here.

This is a small pizza place. You can get pizza by the slice which is what I did. The pizza is New York style. You order at the counter and get your own drink. The service was friendly and my slice of margherita pizza was very good.

I have had some pretty great northeast pizza, and this place gets pretty close to that standard.

We have lived in jax for 2 years being originally from north New Jersey eating pizza is a staple there. When we moved here we had a hard time founding pizza like home. We found tony d's because we took a flight back home to visit and was speaking with another transplanet from south jersey who recommend this pizza to us. We are so happy we talked about pizza with this lady to found out about tony ds. It's just like home. So good. Good pizza has huge bubbles in the crust as well as cheese that isn't greasey.

Good pizza; slow service. I live 5 minutes from this joint, but my pizza took 55 minutes to arrive. It was room temperature by the time I got to eat it. Also, they charge $2.75+ per topping (for a large), but they are seriously SLACKING on the actual toppings. If they're charging the same price as a gallon of gas per topping, I'd expect a decent amount of what I'm paying for.

we ordered pizza it took over 2 hours to be delivered (on a Monday) and they delivered the wrong pizza. we simply can't order from this place again. we have ordered from this place before and their delivery is always slow.. but this was the worst yet.

We have eaten here many times and have enjoyed it. So , this rating is for a visit for last night (Saturday) only. We walked in and had one group waiting in front of us. Owner approached that group and sat them never even acknowledging us. He sat them and then went to the register to deal with a lady having trouble paying her bill. Then he walked to the back to deal with another situation. One server walked right by us and totally ignored us. We left and went elsewhere. Here's the real issue: Saturday night, no host, two servers working entire dining room, and dirty empty tables not bussed. It appears labor cost is an issue so they cut staff so fine they can't even deal with people coming to eat with them. Cut labor to the bone and watch the sales disintegrate. I truly like this place from the past. But, if you can't staff the biz, I'll go somewhere else.

I've been going to this pizzeria for almost three year. Yesterday I ordered a gourmet menu pizza but when I revived the check the itemized receipt was a different total than what I anticipated. The $11 Sicilian is really $26.50. Not cool guys. Even when I brought it their attention did they say. " thank you " not. Oh can I offer you a discount or "would you like garlic knots". Nothing!!!!!!!!!! Pizza is nice big customer service is lacking.

Best pizza in town...perfect crust and sauce. After living in New York city for 10 years, I would say this is a great place to eat pizza in Jacksonville.

First time there for lunch (take out). Paced the order at 1:05, showed up at 1:15 and was told it would be another 10 minutes. I paid and waited another 25 minutes for the order noticing that the kitchen was only moderately busy. The subs were ok but mostly bread and the owner (I'm guessing he was the owner) didn't even acknowledge the long wait.

I'm from NYC so I take my Italian food seriously. This place is the real del. First meal tonight and it was great. Stromboli was super. Eggplant parmigiana was amazing. Even ziti was great. Brant wait to go back. If you're tired of chain pizza and want the real thing this is your place. Garlic knots, fuggedaboutit!!!!

Went here this evening for dinner before our flight out of Jax tomorrow. The pizza and garlic knots were great. However I had a side Caesar salad that was kind of awkward. It had black olives on top which I've never seen before. Also, the dressing had a very strong vinegar flavor. The salad was not good and unfortunately was a big downer. Also, the service was just okay. Our server, Mike, was really impersonal. Which I normally don't mind but I expected a little more personality. Between the service and the salad, this place can't get higher than 3 stars in my book.

Great food and great atmosphere. Had chicken parm. And wife had spaghetti and meatballs. Big servings and food was Delish. There pizza is one of the best in jax. I highly recommend!!

Try the pasta! I've been here before for pizza and calzones, but tonight I tried one of their pasta dishes: Chicken Cremosa. Bacon and garlic in a cream sauce with chicken and pasta. A different twist on a Carbonara-type sauce. Absolutely delicious! I cleaned my plate even though I really should've stopped earlier but it was too good to stop. I will definitely be back.

Tried a pizza here for the first time. Crust was thin but very soggy and not much cheese. Very disappointed.

Ok being from NJ and Italian, I was told. I would never find the"good stuff" to eat in jacksonville and I almost believed it until we found Tony D's! Pizza! It is just as good if not better and his Chicken Parm is excellent! The meatball sandwiches are made with nice soft meat and lots of flavor . This is our place to go for Italian food in Jax!

  • Bryan S.

Eat here a few times a month with a few other guys as a regular spot for our men's bible study group. The service is always great and the food is awesome. The hot garlic knots always come right out as we get seated and start us off right. The wings are also great and the meat lovers pizza is a great meal to split. Overall just a really nice place to get some NY style pizza and hang out.

Best pizza in Jacksonville. Native jerseyian here. Been in Jax for years have had almost every pizza in town and this is the best.

Pizza was piping hot when I finally got it and took it home. I feel like it took quite a long time to get my pizza though, at least longer than it would any where else. The pizza itself was mediocre. Not terrible, just average. A little pricy as well.

This place has GREAT food...Just don't call and speak with "Cassie" to place your order. I work at a VERY busy business, called in an order for 5 people, all different payments and she couldn't take my order. She stated "the only way I can take 5 different payments is if you come and pick it up" WHAT?? So I asked "Can I call back and order each person's order then?" She said "Yes but each order has to be $13.00 for delivery. We USED to order from this place WEEKLY...We go there after work as well....I will make sure that NO ONE from here uses them again. It's a shame because the food is great!

My girlfriend, her family, and myself went to Tony D's last night to celebrate a birthday. It was a little slow (then again it was 7pm on a Wednesday). The food was phenomenal and the service was awesome. I'm definitely gonna check them out again.

My fiancée brought us here after reading positive reviews. After experiencing it, we both agreed a more realistic review was necessary. Our waiter was fine. He was the only waiter working at the time (at 7pm on a Saturday night...odd) and apologized for a delay in taking our order. No biggie here. The food was also decent. Not great - I've had a fair share of NY pizzas in my day and this one wouldn't have broken into the top 10. Again, not a big deal. Pizza is pizza. Yuengling keg kicked so I had to settle for Bud Light. Draft price was good too. The main problem was the owner. He clearly has a big ego. Another reviewer called him "sexy"...my fiancée called him "just another New Yorker". I couldn't agree more. They apparently were in the process of "updating" (which I guess is "New York" for raising prices on) their menu. The draft was 25% more expensive than the menu said, and it didn't list any additional charges for dipping sauces (marinara and ranch). The server also failed to mention the add'l charges. The owner did not offer to fix the problems and stated that "the updated menu is still being printed." Ok, fair enough, but it is unethical (and maybe even illegal, I don't know) to charge higher prices than all of your in house and online menus state. Basically, it was lame they weren't willing to fix their problem. Plus the food wasn't outstanding. We won't be returning.

The pizza was awful! It was super greasy, way too much cheese and I am sure they had about a half a pound of sugar in the dough. Far from fresh tasting to say the least. I asked for wings extra crispy and they came out barely cooked. I remember this place use to be a Brooklyn Pizza. We tried it shortly after it changed to Tony D's. It was nasty then and it's still nasty now.

Really like this place. My husband is from New Jersey and considers himself a real expert on the subject. He won't eat pizza from anywhere else here in Jax. Our favorites are the Grandma's Pie and the Marguerita (sp?). Highly recommend.

I never eat the crust on pizza but I do on this one! When we don't feel like getting a deal on the chain pizza places we go out of our way to pick something up from Tony D's. We've tried the garlic knots which are a bit hard and probably won't order them anymore but the real magic is the pizza. Excellent crust and overall--- goodness.

I love Tony D's! My boyfriend and I hardly go a week without getting delivery from them. I usually like cold pizza leftovers but their pizza reheats really well too. Meatballs are really good too!

I've got to give this place it's props! The one review by Paul is pretty much dead on! Tommy's is number 1 in my book. Tony D's is number 2. They are two totally different pies. Tommies is gourmet in my eyes. Tony's is a normal new york style pizza that has amazing crust and crisp bottom. It's a little thicker than normal foldable NY style pizza, but great flavor. We ordered the meat lovers and the veggie. He even warned me that the veggie might get soggy due to the vegetables, but it held up strong. My one knock was that it was $42 for two pies! A little pricey, were not in NYC anymore! This is Jville! Good pizza my friends, support your local restaurants, quit ordering Dominoes and Papa John's. We have good pizza in this town, eat it!

2'nd best pie in all of Jax; trust me I tried at least 30 well known ones! Great crust slice holds straight when you pick it up. Topping not over done, and not greasy/oily cheese. # 1 is Tommy's on Southside, and Picasso's in Mandarin #3. I have not tried any other dishes they offer, but have had pizza here a dozen times. Also fast service that delver's your slice's to your table hot. I would say this pizza is as close to true NY style you can find here. Located in small strip mall behind Walgreen's. Also very clean too.

Tony D's was so far the best pizza we've had so far in Jacksonville. We lived 50+ years in NYC and although there are many variations of NY pizza most JAX pizza doesn't come close. This is the first pizza we have enjoyed since being here. After reading the other reviews we will try Tommy's on Southside

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
