Locally owned, operated and darn good "home-style" food. I've been going here, not real regularly for over 10 years. My first experience was at their first location (?) at the end of a strip mall, ordering the BBQ potato and I was hooked! While I do know some folks that do this, I can't eat here every day......the portions and not so diet friendly menu would make me as big as a house! Pot roast special....outstanding. BLT.....outstanding, most "B" on a sandwich than anywhere! Chopped pork plate.....outstanding. Sweet tea......the best! The staff is courteous and friendly. I can't speak about breakfast, but get there before 11:30 for lunch or you'll be waiting for a table (it's not that long of a wait).

We've been here solely for breakfast. This is a casual, country location without any competitors nearby. This if the type of place that older men congregate outside and talk for hours and you are likely to find a classic car parked in the lot. The inside is modern, but definitely a mix of eclectic southern country charm. The food is good, not great, yet consistent. If you're like me and prefer butter, Country Crock is served here. The service is efficient and friendly and this would be a great place to stop at for both locals and those tourists driving by on the freeway to one of our many FL destinations and looking for an experience that is unique along with a hot meal.

The food was ok for barbecue. The ribs were very fatty and greasy. I only had one. The waitress was very courteous. The best part of the meal was the cole slaw and fries. The restaurant looked clean.

I spotted this place on the side of the road and couldn't resist giving it a try. The atmosphere is great - they even have a cow bell on the door. The inside looks very much like an old classic diner with some country flare which I really liked. The waitress was very nice and prompt and the food was good. Toward the end of my meal another waitress came over and gave me a pecan bar they had just made and it was delicious. Everyone was very friendly. I'm glad I stopped.

Got the Loaded BBQ Baked Potato. You'll never experience a more loaded potato! Our drinks were never empty, staff was great, and the complementary desert was a nice touch. Rustic looking place with lots to look at.

Been here several times and I have to say this is the best breakfast on the northside! Huge portions for decent price. Wonderful French toast, fluffy pancakes, perfect bacon- not too crisp, not too limp. Good god if they could just serve some BBQ with their breakfast I would be in heaven.

My wife and I were traveling from Tampa to Sea Island,Ga. and I was checking out where we could have lunch on Yelp nearby and I came across Toby's Barbeque.Since my daughter's name is Toby,we decided to give it a try. The parking lot was filled which was a good sign. The place was definitely unique with all the stuff on the walls and old things on display. We were promptly seated and had a wonderful, attentive server. We teach tried the barbeque stuffed baked potato, with my wife having turkey and I having combination barbeque meats on my potato. The server suggested the "real" turkey on my wife's and she was amazed at the big pieces of real turkey on the potatoe. My barbeque was exceptional as was the barbeque sauce that I squirted on the potato. The servings were so large we could barely finish them....and then the server brought out a tray of 3 different complimentary dessert puddings. We chose the banana pudding and enjoyed it,too. Our entire experience was exceptional and we are planning on stopping by again on our way back to Tampa.

Finally after two horrible businesses reviewed, I hit on a gem. Leading with a caveat, BBQ is a subjective taste with many claiming to be experts but frequently only passionate about their personally preferred style... got it that some will disagree with my assessment on that basis alone. This is not a chain. Nor is it purported as a gourmet hoity toity restaurant patronized by people at risk of drowning in a rain shower. It is a quint small business with character from the heavy southern drawl of the staff and the eclectic decor. No, this is clearly a local small time restaurant with a lot of local character. Food quality. Four in our party. All four ordered different lunch menu options and when asked, reported they found the food tasty, filling and meeting expectations overall. For mine, I selected (with some directive "assistance" from the waitress) the sliced BBQ beef brisket on texas toast with a side of beans and fries. The brisket was flavorful, moist, and tender. The beans could have been dressed to give more character but lacking that, they were still a nice lunch compliment to the meal. The fries were clearly frozen ones but that us not unusual unless going to a place known specifically for making homemade fries. The lunches also came with a choice of dessert; pudding of vanilla or chocolate, lemon cake, or watermelon cake. In our party we tried the later two options. The watermelon cake was odd, a pink cake with green icing and indeed tasted of watermelon. Cleanliness. Can only speak to the table we sat at and the general area. Things were clean looking albeit rustic. The sanitation habits observed of the waitresses were satisfactory. Cost. Well this is an inexpensive and affordable lunch spot. On average we spent $10 each including tip. Our beverages were no charge (I got the impression it was the manager/owners version of a military discount). Glad to give a positive review especially after being so sorely disappointed at two other nasty businesses this week. Toby's will definitely be on the list for a repeat visit.

Toby's is open for breakfast and lunch Monday through Saturday, and for dinner on Thursday and Friday. Daily lunch specials run around 8 or 9 bucks, and come with 2 sides. The standard BBQ fare is also available (pork, ribs, brisket, turkey, chicken.) There is often a crowd at lunch, as food service in this part of town is sparse (except for fast-food joints.) I've had breakfast here several times, and it hasn't been as crowded, then. Toby's is the last restaurant heading north on US1/US23 until you reach Callahan. See that big red caboose on the side of the road, just south of I-295? You're at Toby's. Service is usually pretty quick, take-out available (drive-thru window, too!) A few parking spaces right in front of the restaurant, and a large unpaved lot just south of the restaurant (the other side of the caboose.) Lunch includes a small dessert, there's usually a choice of two or three items (banana pudding, peach cobbler, gooey-tasty brownie thing, cake...)

Had the large brisket sandwich with slaw and fries. Price was right and the brisket was superb... Finally a BBQ place that does it well and gives you a portion that is not a joke or kids meal. Service was good and fast The crowd was probably 50% military, and the rest ran the gamut. Very nice clean place without being just a tourist trap with bad food. I will be back.
