This restaurant has friendly staff, reasonable prices, a large selection of drinks, and great food. There are several televisions around the bar area in case you want to go somewhere where your date will ignore you because he's watching the game. I ran in here unplanned one evening out with a friend and coworker and really enjoyed the food and atmosphere.

2 for 1 Margaritas, need I say more? In case you are not convinced, I was skeptical about eating Mexican food in Florida while traveling here from Texas, but this was close to a good thing. The Salsa and Queso were both very tasty. I would visit again.

I enjoy much this restaurant. I have dinner at least once a month. I always order Panzon Burrito, my favorite. Is a delicious pork burrito. The best thing about this restaurant is that they always gave Margaritas 2 for 1. Last friday this place was completely full. Despite that, service was fast.

Absolutely delicious food. The portions are extremely generous and excellent quality. I went with the Enchiladas Suizas which is a chicken enchilada, beef enchilada, and cheese enchilada. Their salsa is full of flavor and just the right spice. Prices are slightly higher than others but that's offset by the portions. Muy bueno, Tequilas!

Great food, great service, & great atmosphere! My friend is a regular here, so every time I'm in town we make it a point to stop. The 2-for-1 house margaritas are a steal, and the queso is delish!

Honestly, the best quesadilla I've ever eaten. Maybe because it was grilled on both sides, or because it was completely packed with steak and cheese goodness inside, or both. The food was very fresh and the staff is very friendly. Our food was delivered to us within 10 min. I'll be craving this food soon.

I'm a big fan of this place. It's fun! They have great service! And the drink prices are on point! On Saturday nights, one of the servers actually sings all night (it's karaoke) and he alternates b/n Spanish songs and English ones and he is really entertaining. I have only had the Queso Fundido as far as food goes, but it was also delicious! I know the new trendy taco locations are all the rage right now, but if you're looking for a good old fashioned Mexican restaurant then you should definitely hit up Tequilas!

My brother and I discovered this place and they have EXCELLENT ceviche and their chile verde is delicious. Fajitas are fantastic as well! Everytime we go the service is wonderful. They are attentive and patient. They remember us when we go in! Definitely would recommend!

If anyone religiously reads my reviews, you know that one of my easiest ways to get four or five stars with me is to offer generous portions for the meals. And when it comes to portion sizes, that's one of the main reasons why Tequila's gets four stars from me. Some of the other reasons this restaurant gets high marks from me is because the waiter had the chef alter a menu item so that I can get my beloved shrimp and spinach enchiladas. The food is authentic Mexican there and it doesn't take long for your food to arrive. I can't give Tequila's a five-star because I haven't been there several times and I feel like I need to have several instances of fantastic service to upgrade this rating. But I will say on my first and only visit, the waiter was kind and polite and checked on us several times. He kept our cups filled with beverages and when the check came, he brought it to us fast. Overall, the interior looks like a typical Mexican restaurant and the food is as about as south of the border as you can get for Jacksonville.

Decent place to grab Mexican food if you are in the area. My California burrito was a little spicy for my personal taste. I enjoyed the fried ice cream and sopiapilla for dessert ( I have an apparent sweet tooth) I would come back and have a margarita.

  • David H.

Excellent Mexican food at a great price. The shrimp fajitas were excellent, non greasy, and the portion was so large I wasn't able to finish it all. The salsa they serve with their chips is almost worth the trip by itself. This might look like just another Mexican restaurant in a strip mall but don't be fooled, stop here.

Whenever I have a taste for authentic mex food, this is the place! Or at least the mexfood The food and the prices are fantastic. The waiters let me practice my Spanglish. The atmosphere is very inviting. The staff very friendly. This place is on our top 5 go to places to eat out.

Went back this past week. They had a very friendly bartender that made sure her guest had food drinks in time. I had the steak Mexican tacos very good but they need to steam the soft corn tortilla a little longer... Two of the three broke while eating them. But, I enjoyed it with a fork too! Overall 4 stars could have been 5 but those darn tacos broke open! Keep up the good customer service.

Still sitting at the table, this place is so good!!! 2 for 1 house margaritas all day everyday, they are $6 each. I got quesadilla fajitas and my boyfriend got the California burrito, all was delicious. Super fast service, chips and salsa within a minute of sitting down, margaritas appeared almost instantly. Awesome place, highly recommended.

Okay so first off, the food here is definitely good. I ordered the vegetarian fajitas and my friends ordered a burrito, chimichanga, and fish tacos. We were all very happy with our meals and had no complaints. It came out fast, it came out hot, and it was all very tasty. Also, the restaurant is really clean, which is always nice. Our server's name was Jesus C. This guy was totally on point. He brought out drinks out quick, we never ran out of chips or salsa, and he was prompt, friendly, and did a credit to servers everywhere. Seriously, this was the best service I have ever had at a restaurant. If you ever come here, get sat in this guy's section. I will be coming back and I would recommend this place to a friend!

Like any good Gringo, I love Mexican food. This weekend we took a trip to Tequila's Mexican Restaurant in the Baymeadows/9A area. They are pretty new and we have heard good things, so we were pretty excited. I was a little worried because the place was far from packed when we got there on a Saturday night at 6pm. I attributed this to the restaurant's newness and it's location (in an almost abandoned strip mall.) The restaurant's appearance is not what I expected at all (in a good way). I don't know why, but I was expecting a more "commercial" feel. The place looked very authentic, the way a Mexican restaurant should look! We were seated and the waiter came around for our drink order. The margarita's are 2-4-1 all the time, so that's what we got. The margaritas were brought out with some chips and salsa. I like to gauge a Mexican place on it's salsa, and Tequila's passed the test! The salsa was nicely blended and not too spicy. We also ordered a side of queso, which also received an A+. I ordered the Taquitos Mexicanos (Flautas). They came with 2 beef and 2 chicken flautas topped with lettuce, tomato, and sour cream with rice and (refried) beans. I love flautas. As soon as I saw them on the menu I knew what I was getting. Our usual Mexican place does not offer flautas, so this was a treat for me! One thing that impressed me was the beef. It is shredded beef, not greasy ground beef. To me, that's a sign of quality! The beef was tender and lean and delicious! The chicken was also shredded and not very greasy. Both kinds of flautas had peppers (not spicy) in with the meat. I took turns dipping the flautas into the salsa and then the queso. I don't know which way was better because they were both so good! The rice and beans were very good. The beans were more solid than juicy (which I like) and they combined nicely with the rice. For future reference, you can add queso to the top of any burrito (and other menu items if I'm not mistaken) for an extra charge. YUM! Verdict: We loved it! We are positive that we will be back soon, if not for the delicious food, for the 2-4-1 margaritas!

We used to love coming here, but last time service was horrible. This time I found a hair in our salsa. I think it was a mustash or beard hair. Yuck! And bathroom was horrible again. We will not be back again. Very sad!

My family headed out for an adventure in eating last week and tried TMR. We arrived around 7:30. The restaurant was easy to find, and we got a parking space right at the door. The first impression upon entering through the massive wooden doors was "I think we are going to like this place". It was clean, airy, lots of light and we were immediately welcomed and shown to a large booth, with a table not bolted to the floor ---- I hate when it is ---- it's nice to be able to shift the table if necessary for long legged, or big belly folks :") which we have both in our family. The place was very busy, most tables were filled and the bar was hopping. I can only image what it would be like on a Friday or Saturday night if it was this busy on a Thursday. Anyway, it took us a few minutes to read over the menu, which was large and not just like all the other Mexican places we have been to; some of our favorites was listed in the combo section and some new good sounding options. My kids and my mother love Taco Bell so for them that is what Mexican food is suppose to be, I am trying to get them to understand that is all American and not high quality; even if it does taste good. So, we had to search for something they would like. As we took our time with the menu, our waiter had come by twice offering advice and checking if we were ready yet. Chips and salsa was brought out, and our drinks. My mother settled on a taco salad, my son a chalupa and meaty nachos, and my daughter a kids meal of cheese quesidia (? not sure of spelling) which had rice & beans, and I had a burrito special. After ordering we settled in, my son was happy with the sports TV he could watch, and we all nibbled and munched on the chips & salsa ---- which was too spicy for my mother & son to enjoy, we asked for a milder one for them, and was told that was the mild. {Maybe they need to have one without the spicy pepper). Our entrees arrived and all was correct but mine, I do not like refried beans and had asked for them to be replaced with extra rice, the guy who brought out the dinners quickly took it away, and then I waited. I thought they would just scrape off the beans and scoop up more rice --- but when it came back, it was a whole new order! (I hope one of the kitchen folks ate the first it looked and smelled so good) Our waiter kept our drinks filled and checked on us appropriately. He was quick and professional. In the end we were pleased with our meal and will go back if we are in the area. And, while we were on the "other side of town" we headed over to the new Dreamette on San Jose.

The queso was as thin as water. We had the tacos, enchiladas, and chalupas. They were all fine, but nothing worth returning for.

Very good Mexican joint. Staff is always friendly and food is usually delivered ridiculously fast. I like the special burrito but I ask for shredded chicken. Have never had a bad meal or bad experience here.

  • Chelsee E.

Poor management. Language barrier, owner looked at me as I stood upset and smirked. Refused to place my order. Yes I called him evil because I was hungry and all I wanted was to come in and order and get my food. Instead he declined my business. I've come several times ordering the seafood meal at full price every time and he lost me over me inquiring about a sample size of guacamole. I asked him if that mattered to lose my business over him refusing to answer questions I had regarding a sample size of guac. He said he doesn't care, he is declining my business. He walked away, not even attempting to come to a compromise or anything. I guess he truly doesn't need my business, wow. I guess because of my mouth. Wow and here I am hungry. Wow I cried. Sad sad man, I pray for him. Please don't visit this restaurant, that was a huge disappointment. This man should seek help in learning to deal with customer concerns better.

O.K. food, GREAT prices with their drinks. Two for one all day every day, including bottles (for some beer). Customer service is a C if that. They need serious training on all their employees on training. Much left to be desired. I blame management completely for this.

  • Daniel B.

Yum. Delicious Mexican food. Really quick and very inexpensive. It looked like they have some great lunch specials, so I am kinda bummed I don't work nearby. (Do they deliver to DC?). Solid four stars.

very good Mexican restaurant. the best chili relanos according to my wife. we live close so we have eaten at this place several times. and it's always been good.

Fantastic service, great atmosphere, not too loud, friendly service, good food. We prefer this restaurant for tex mex over the la Napolera options.

Great food, great service. Chips arrive within minutes after being seated. I've had several items on their menu and have always been consistently pleased and the food has kept my wife and me (and friends) coming back. The service is prompt and friendly too.

Excellent service each time I've came for dinner with large parties. Ample portions for every dish. I've always had the Tacos Al Pastor and have never been disappointed.

Having landed here in the shadow of the once great Jackie Lee's, I was a little bit skeptical about this new, seemingly run of the mill Mexican restaurant. Upon walking in, you quickly get the vibe that this'll be a mediocre meal. The decoration isn't anything special, the walls still smell of General Tao's chicken, but this place has much more to offer than its facade suggests. The food was FRESH, obviously just made. I had the shrimp burrito, while my girlfriend had the california burrito with steak. While mine was indeed delicious, her burrito was excellent. The steak was cooked well and was extremely flavorful. I'm glad we made the choice to come here. With their large portions and delicious food, I have no doubts that they will be seeing my face again.

  • Ayman K.

Very fresh food, not greasy like other Mexican restaurants. We enjoyed the California burrito with chicken. Probably best chips and salsa in Jacksonville.

  • Biren A.

Map is incorrect...esp if using Apple iOS Maps. Location is in Steinmart plaza. Salsa is tasty! Relatively large restaurant but may be difficult for a business meeting. Speedy service, food is reasonable and they have a good kids menu.

  • Todd H.

First time at this place. Lots of food sounded good. Son & I got the "California", AMAZING. Biggest burrito I've seen. None of that lettuce, tomato and crap I don't like. Steak, Cheese, rice, refried beans and queso all over the top..MMmmmm. We will definitely be back, soon I hope.

  • Anny C.

Great atmosphere, food, drink specials and service. Love this place. The special burrito is amazing, as is the queso and salsa.

  • David F.

Best chicken burrito I've had in a long time. Everything was fresh and delicious.

    (5)
  • Stephen K.

Chips & Caso are good. Margaritas are okay. The tacos & burritos are terrible. We come from San Diego where for $8 you'll get a large drink, 3 tacos and the best "California" burrito you'll ever have. Here it takes $40 to get the same thing and its not even good. Jackie Lee's is missed and this place can't touch its greatness. I didn't ask for peppers and the last bite I took of the night landed the hottest pepper I've ever had into my mouth and and I couldn't breathe! Service is not good at all. The sports stations are all in spanish so how are we supposed to follow along? Not going back again.

    (2)
  • Gregg K.

Really good food at a great price. Beers are always 2 for 1. Tacos are fantastic, and the chicken fajitas were one of the best I've had. Also really good queso. Only complaint was server was not very attentive once the food came out. But we will be back.

    (4)
  • Meg H.

Very Quick! I had the steak quesadilla and it was pretty good, but pretty small. The queso was really really good, and the salsa was quite spicy! Fiance had a margarita and said it was quite good. Service was kind of blah, but the queso and margs were good!

    (3)
  • Shaina Y.

I never actually have eaten here because I usually fall victim to the BOGO margs. The house margarita (rocks or frozen) give me life and everyone should get them. Side note- chips and salsa are pretty tasty

  • Kristina K.

Today when my boss asked if I wanted to do Mexican food for lunch, I practically shouted "YES!" She introduced me to Tequila's. I had the shrimp burrito. I've never had shrimp in a burrito so I was intrigued. It came covered in what they called chipotle sauce (not spicy!), sour cream, lettuce, and tomatoes with rice and beans on the side. It was very tasty and the serving was quite large. After the chips and salsa they started us with, I didn't come anywhere near cleaning my plate. The decor is nice, very clean. The service was fine, nothing special. A nice alternative spot for some fast Mexican food that isn't La Nop. I'll be coming back for sure!

Beautiful restaurant. Awesome attentive staff. Great margaritas that paired with the common chips and salsa. I was feeling buzzed off my first drink - I have no tolerance - but I know a good drink when I start seeing double. Everyone enjoyed their food. I especially enjoyed my meal because I was finally was able to check something off my Yelp's 10 Firsts list and try the Chile Relleno - loved it. But I wish it was offered alone. They had it paired with a burrito and an enchilada and no surprise it was just too much food for a late Friday night. But who would ever pass up left overs? I asked a server if they had live performers or dancing offered throughout the week. He said on occasion the restaurant does cater to those extra (normally on the weekends) but they still keep pretty limited hours. Either way good food, good drinks, and good prices with good people makes for a great night.

Came back again several times, always consistant. Shrimp burrito is loaded with shrimp and flavor. Chips are good, love the hot spicy salsa. You have to ask for it.

Place fucking sucks. Zero service, waiter doesn't know jack shit. Got up and left. And of all 8 people there, no one had food. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME!

Great value for the money, especially for lunch. Definitely try one of their combos, I like #12. Nice salsa for the chips, & the hot version is hot. My Mexican of choice on Baymeadows....

If you want great food at a great price with friendly and prompt service, you will go to Tequilas. We have always left satisfied.

  • Kalvin K.

Absolutely amazing. The restaurant was busy even during the early evening hours on a weekday. There is tremendous value with the menu here. The portions are extremely large for the price. I paid about $15 for a steak fajita and a side of guacamole that could easily feed two! They accept American Express as well!

I've been to this restaurant on two separate occasions: one for my best friend's graduation party and another for a date night dinner with my boyfriend. The first time at Tequila's was excellent. Although we were a large group and it took a while to order our food, we left with a great experience. The food came out rather quick, our waiter was attentive, and we left full and happy. The second time I came back wasn't as much of a pleasant experience as the first time around. I really enjoyed the food the last time I was there (and practically begged my boyfriend to stop by there all week because I was craving Mexican), so I casually suggested that we go to Tequila's for our date night. Although the place was rather empty, we weren't seated until about 8 minutes in. When we were finally seated, our waiter asked us for our drinks and leaves us to look at our menus. He comes back with our drinks and chips and salsa and by then we've finally decided on what to order. Throughout our time there, other than those few moments of ordering our food, our waiter doesn't talk to us. I understand that there might have been a language barrier between us (he wasn't fluent in English), but he was more intent on leaving our table as fast as he could than he arrived. I don't understand as to why though; we weren't demanding or rude or anything. We aren't the type to cause a scene. We just wanted to eat, pay, and leave. When we get our food, everything seemed OK. You get generous portions of food for what you're paying, so that always makes me happy. The ceviche was excellent. My shrimp chimichanga was the same as last time, which was great. The refried beans were a bit cold. My boyfriend's steak burrito had three times as much of green pepper vs. meat. Overall, it was okay. During that time, other than dropping off our food, our waiter never checked up on us. It took us 15 minutes to track him down to ask for our check. When he prints it out, he just puts it on the tables and leaves. I leave a $40 to cover our $34 bill and our waiter comes back to cash us out. Instead of waiting for the change, we get up to leave. As he rounds the corner, he comes up to us and I tell him to keep the change. He doesn't say anything but he literally scowled at us and then starts to collect the dirty dishes on our table rather loudly. Because the room we were dining in was quite small, everyone within our section looked up to see what was going on. As a fellow waitress myself, you know to be kind, patient, and courteous with your attending guests. Converse with them, ask them about their day, check up on them routinely and ask about their food or offer to refill drinks. With our waiter, this was an issue. He wasn't open or friendly and he didn't go out of his way to do something for us. Our service that night was average, if not below. Don't get me wrong, I'm a usually great tipper. I understand that a $5-6 dollar tip might not be much, but there's no need to be rude. From my waitressing experience, the way you act towards your guest represents the restaurant as a whole. The way he acted towards us at the end was very rude. If you give bad service, expect an average/low tip. There's no need to cause a scene and embarrass your customers. Would I dine here again? Probably not.

I've been to Tequila's a few times but this is my first time eating here. I ordered the Fajita Quesadillas and they were delicious! 2-4-1 margaritas and bottled beer, all day everyday. We also got the queso fundido and it was amazing. Definitely coming back here!

  • Susan K.

This place is awesome! We live close and eat here once a week. The staff is super friendly. We always order the #10. Taco, burrito, and enchilada combo. We eat an 'early dinner' since the portions are generous. I like the white meat chicken. Some places cut corners with dark meat. Food comes out quick so let them know if you want to chill and eat their super thin and warm taco chips. Salsa is perfect. Fresh. We sit at the bar and chat with the staff who knows us very well! Keep up the excellent service and food ! Oh and $2.25 for an ice cold Corona! Love Tequilas.

This place has the worst service. The food is good, but the service is terrible. Even the manager doesn't care. So if you go to this place you should just sit at the bar

We always have exceptional service here- and particularly enjoy having Jesus as our server. The food is soooo good, service is fast and it doesn't break the bank!!

Was a little upset that the hostess was talking on her cellular the entire time she sat me down; however, the rest of the service by Martin (maybe pronounced Mar teen) was awesome. Food was great - served fast, hot and delicious. Will be back here again!

New to the Jacksonville area. We found this place on Google about three months we've been here every Friday since. Great food and drinks. Amazing staff very friendly. No matter when we show up we get the same excellent service.

They said margaritas are $3.25 buy one get one free when they are $6.50 buy one get one free! Smdh! Do not get fooled!

Based upon the reviews, I expected more. The steak tacos smelled bad as if the meat wasn't really fresh or even steak. Service was not good and the forgot to give me my queso at any point of my meal, but didn't forget to charge me for it. Very disappointed! The server only walked 10 feet from watching tv at the bar to take my order, deliver the food & check. I guess he knew better than to ask how it was or even if I needed anything. I will not return or recommend this place.

Drink specials are what keep me coming back. Food is not bad Mexican, but I'm from California, so I'm used to delicious Mexican food. Actually the cerviche was pretty good.

The food was pretty good. We asked the waiter for warm salsa, he brought us spicy salsa. I like my salsa hot off the stovetop. Anywho's overall great atmosphere for.family and friends. There is a full bar and there are televisions everywhere. Great game.day hangout.

This is a great place to drop in for lunch. The staff are all very nice and the lunch specials are reasonable priced and well prepared.

  • Jen L.

Tortilla chips & Special Burrito was OK. It wasn't bad....but it wasn't anything spectacular. There wasn't really much flavor to the food. But if you are hungry, this place will hit the spot. In fact, I thought it was way too much food for me. That burrito could have been 3 meals for me. It was recommended by a local and I'm just a tourist in Jax. I think its worth checking out if you are in the area.

    (3)
  • Jerry T.

Tequila's is a solid neighborhood Mex Mex joint. The food is on point. They actually make a number of items in house that you would expect to be bought at many places, including the tortillas (!), refried beans and guac. Tacos al Pastor were delicious. While the pork was not quite as tender as I like it had a nice marinade with enough saltiness to compliment the soft house-made tortillas nicely. The beans were creamy and smooth. The chicken used in their dishes appeared to be all white meat and was also very tender. I think the pricing is a little higher than you might see at other local places like La Nopelara. 3 Mexican tacos were $9.99 but I appreciated the amount of work they put into the ingredients so it seemed worth the price. It's worth noting that the drinks are extremely affordable here. Domestic pitchers are $6.50 all day, and house margaritas and bottled beers are 2 for 1 every day as of 7/13. Parking is readily available because of the strip mall location. Definitely worth a stop if you find yourself on this side of town.

Compared to Los Portales a much better Mexican restaurant with fresher, tastier options.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate.
