I am embarrassed that it has taken me 10 years to finally try this place! The food is amazing, and I am now on a journey to try everything on the menu. I started with a club--as simple as it--and have come to the conclusion that something so simple can only be that delicious because it is dusted with crack. It's the only explanation! So this has become my Friday lunch spot until I die or the owners retire (hopefully the former!). If you haven't tried this place, hit an ATM (because they are anti-credit cards) and stop in--you will not regret it!

This tiny dive near the stadium attracts all types: cops, construction workers, office workers for groovy gut bombs. There's hot subs, cold subs, you name it and it's all good. They don't take credit cards but there is an ATM on premises if you're low on cash. Plan on taking yours to go.

Been eating at Russ-Doe's for decades. Great food, fast service, but also the nicest family in Jacksonville ! As much an institution as the Gator Bowl ! Big Dawg from Georgia

Now I have been eating at Russ-Doe's for maybe going on 25-30 years now. It is a locally owned and operated by the same family for al of those too. You get in and you get out. That's outside for seating. You don't want to dilly dally around here. You look at the menu on the wall and order or you will be cut in front of with a quickness. Their are 5-6 ladies behind the counter making sandwiches. So you order, pay and within a couple of ,minutes you are eating. This is a quick little breakfast and lunch place that caters to the dock workers of the factory workers both with not much time for lunch. The women or even Russ who still works the counter during lunch most every time that I have been in there. Today I got the Russ doe's special and a normal camel rider. Both of these together cost me about 8.50. The special is some seasoned ground beef and it is seasoned with a combination of spices that leaves me wondering what the heck is the one spice that I can't put my finger on. The camel rider was just that some bologna, ham, lettuce, tomato, and mayo in a pita. This is a worker bee type of place so you will not get no foo foo here. You will get a descent sandwich at a really cheap price and you will get it fast.

Not fancy, limited seating, order at the counter, cash only. All that said, the food is fresh, and very good. I would come here everyday for lunch if I lived close.

This is a cash only extablishment so be prepared for that. It reminds me of ordering at the soup Nazi! You better know what you want when you walk in and be prepared to order and get out-of-the-way. But the food is always super hot and super fresh. I like the breakfast in a cup with bacon. But you should also know there is hardly any salt in the grits so grab some packets on your way out the door. Lots of nice outdoor seating in the shade.

I first discovered Russ-Does over 25 years ago. It is everything you want in a breakfast and lunch joint. It's fast. It's good. And it's pleasant to walk in the door. Breakfast in a sac is a great way to start the day. For lunch try the Russ-Does special or a hamburger. And don't forget dessert. It's all good !!!

Stopped by for a quick breakfast before a game at the Everfield Stadium. The service was friendly and welcoming! Their menu has variety and is inexpensive. The seating on the porch also makes for a great way to enjoy the weather with a meal!

Russ Doe's is the kind of place you could live in Jacksonville all of your life and never know about. The moment you happen upon it, you'll wonder why you never discovered it years earlier. This is the kind of old school neighborhood mom and pop breakfast and lunch spot that you'll suddenly yearn for more of once you rediscover what they once felt like. You won't see a menu that caters to dining fads like grass fed beef, duck bahn mi, wasabi kale chips or fourme d'ambert. Russ Does focuses on time proven classics at affordable prices. You may not even see the menu at all. It's easy for your mind to wander while gazing upon the memorabilia encompassing nearly any and all events that have ever happened at nearby Jacksonville Municipal Stadium (that's Gator Bowl for the old schoolers, Everbank Field for the new kids on the block). As you take a trip down memory lane gazing upon pictures of that Roling Stones concert you'll probably bump shoulders with dock workers who want to get in and out for their call ahead orders, so eyes down and focus on ordering some food! My favorite is the Russ Does special: seasoned ground beef, small diced onions, lettuce, tomatoes and a hint of mayo stuffed in a pita. The ground beef is seasoned with a 'special family ingredient'. It's certainly not run of the mill seasoned salt, the taste is more complex with a hint of sweetness that is complemented well by the whipped mayo. This and a soft drink will set you back $5.50. Another favorite is the mesquite grilled chicken: large chunks of mesquite flavored chicken with sautéed onions, lettuce, tomato and cheese inside a pita. There isn't a sandwich on the menu that will run north of $6. You'll receive your order before you even have a chance to pay for it. The friendly women behind the counter almost trip over each other to receive and prepare your order. With food in hand, head outside to enjoy your meal seated at one of the many picnic tables under the cool shade of three large oak trees. I have to imagine this is what eating a homemade lunch out on the countryside would feel like as you seek out the nearest shade tree, dig into your brown bag lunch and enjoy the cool breeze while relaxing from a morning of hard work on the pasture. Interesting factoids -Russ Does is cash only. There is an ATM on site, however be prepared to not rely on the modern convenience of a credit card. I hate carrying cash, but I think this cash only policy simply adds to the old school aura that is Russ Does -The true untold secret of this under the radar institution? They have the best banana pudding in town! -One of the few places in town where you'll likely be eating next to members of the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching staff. -Current and third generation family owner, Russell Smith, gave his children quite the athletic DNA. His daughter was an accomplished cheerleader at UNF and his son Rusty Smith became the first quarterback from Jacksonville to start an NFL game when he led the Tennessee Titans against the Houston Texans on 11/28/10 (which would explain the odd presence of a Tennessee Titans helmet next to a Jacksonville Jaguars helmet next to the ATM inside the restaurant).
