I pulled a U turn to get a Mozarella Lubi. The craving was unexpected and instant. It's not often that the stars align and I'm here in his area and hungry and have some "spare-ish" money to burn. First off, a Lubi isn't your usual deli sandwich. If you've ever watched a Roseanne Barr sitcom from the 1980's (with John Goodman--hey don't judge me OR my age) then you might remember their "loose meat sandwiches". If you haven't seen this sitcom, You Tube it if you're curious. Secondly, a Lubi is a hot mess. Literally. A. Hot. Mess. And yet I love it. You need utensils to properly eat this saucy, loose meat concoction. Don't try to hold it. Like any proper hot mess, you gotta work with it and not try to control the situation. So, not everyone is game for this type of sandwich. But if you are, then we kinda also know that either you or your Significant Other is also this type of person. A Lubi is not for the OCD or the prim and proper. It's a messy conglomeration of tastes that is unique to loose meat, corralled by a soft super steamed hoagie type bread and topped by a blanket of sauce. Go or don't go. All I know is, I'm glad I made a U turn that morning even if my white dress isn't. Red sauce and white clothing. It never fails. I always manage to drop something on it. Guess that makes me the hot mess.

Best hot sandwich in town. The mozzarella Lubi with extra sweet relish is the best. Also, don't forget the limeade.

It has been more than nine years since the last time I've eaten here. I saw and clipped a coupon for a buy one get one Lubi sub with a purchase of two drinks and took my girlfriend to dine in. Her first time. We ordered the Famous Lubi (lean ground sirloin, american cheese, onions) and the Mozzarella Lubi (lean ground sirloin, onions, sour cream, mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce) steamed in a sub roll. Actually, heated in a microwave, but I don't mind. I like the lean ground sirloin's flavor, but the subs are a little pricey. The Famous Lubi and Mozzarella Lubi cost $5.99 and $6.99 respectively. It's not a footlong. It looks more like Subway's footlong sub's little brother. The Lubi sub did not fill me up at all. The place itself could use some TLC. The big bad wolf can blow it down :)

I do not understand how this place has lasted this long! My mom and I decided to stop in on a day we were running errands and decided to go on a limb and try something even though we've always been weary about Lubi's. We should have stuck with our gut instinct. The food was DISGUSTING. The kind where it makes you want to cut your innards out so that your body isn't tortured by what you just put in your mouth. And the whole time I thought this place was lasting because it was inexpensive... NOT AT ALL! It was about 25 dollars for two people. For two sandwiches! And one side! With waters! You'll have better luck at Taco Bell, I promise!!

We had lunch here today, Oct. 13th. Cheryl had the Famous Lubi and I had the Italian sub. The subs were good and service was good. We also had BOGO sub coupon from the Money magazine. $12.00, for two subs and two medium fountain drinks. Pretty good deal. The police and firemen have the deal, 50% off when you come in uniform. They have a big sign on the wall advertising it too. Good on em'! I will make this a regular on my Jax, lunch regulars, list! Enjoy!

I haven't had anything close to this. Ever. Delicious, filling, unique. I had a Bacon, Egg and cheese rider. Tons of bacon that was cooked perfectly. The eggs are fried and the cheese was running down the side. Fantastic.

For a piece of unique Jacksonville cuisine, try a Lubi sub. But don't come here expecting a light meal. No, these crazy subs are so packed they give you a fork and knife to plow through it with. You can easily divide the sandwich and get two or three satisfying meals out of it, since its so packed with so much ground beef. My favorite is their mozzarella Lubi which I was once addicted to. I'd come here at least once a week. It's awesome. Ground beef and mozzarella with your choice of sour cream, onions, mustard, mayonnaise, and hot peppers. I usually get mine with just sour cream and mayo. New York is known for its cheesecake and pizza. Chicago is known for its hot dogs and pizza. Jacksonville really should be known for its Lubi's.

How could I have missed this place my whole life? Well actually I've got admit the outside look of Lubi's put me off, they don't look like much. But oh how wrong I was... The Lubi's hot subs are a work of [indulgent] art. Centered around lean ground sirloin beef, these subs are different. Huge, packed and flavorful you'll probably need help with one of these. I like the Famous Lubi, the most plain out of the bunch, but the Stroganoff Lubi [sour cream, mushrooms and gravy] looks amazing. I just haven't built up the courage to tackle it. Don't be fooled like I was, Lubi's is a must, must try and a true Jacksonville original. Don't miss out on this, just make sure you're hungry or bring a friend!

I don't know what I just ate. Browned loose (as in crumbled) ground beef on a sub roll + marinara sauce + sour cream + mayo + onions + hot peppers, all topped with mozzarella cheese. Wrap it in foil and microwave. Damn skippy I said microwave! You know how bread turns chewy at the house when you microwave it? Well those industrial strength microwaves won't let you down...they make chewy bread too! Sounds like some drunk frat boys got a hold of whateva been in da fridge!!!! Also, it was not very clean. Floors were not clean. Tables not wiped down. Bathroom dirty. Anyways, to those that like it, more power to ya!!! Just not my thing. Maybe I needed some booze beforehand.

The basic sub was ground beef packed in hollowed chewy white bread, with mustard, mayo, onions on top. Kind of reminded me of a midwest heart attack. Not bad tasting, but not great, and not something you can eat every week unless you're a college athlete.

A Jacksonville staple! They have a great coupon in one of the magazines, too. I always get the fiesta lubi with hot and sweet peppers added, but they are all delicious. Ohhh! And cherry limeade!! This place is a greasy and dirty and run down and old, but the food is very much worth it. This is my favorite location, the staff is always friendly. Not always at the other spots. Still, the sandwich is craveable. Nom! We have a bag of sandwiches in the car right now, and I can't wait to get home to tear in!

This place gets all of my stars. Not at all what I was expecting when my boyfriend told me I had to try a Luis sub and it was amazing. Don't let appearances fool you. The place looks a little like a child decorated it halfway between Jr and Sr high school with mallish tables and chairs and full size cutouts of Nascar drivers. Not that at that should lower your standards, I too was skeptical, but it's just how Lubis rolls and it adds to their unique style and pizazz. I had their traditional famous lubi just how it comes with jalapeños and all and let me say that it was amazig. You can't eat it like a traditional sub either. It's a fork and knife, shovel in your mouth kind of meal. They do like to microwave everything to melt down the cheeses and whatnot and they do it with the tinfoil and everything, but whatever they're doing they have figured it out because it's the best for a great unique taste and experience. I have come back several times because I find them to be pretty epic. A definite go to for me !

This place doesnt look like much frmo the outside, or on the inside either. I decided to try it out based on a friends word. I was glad I did. A Lubi is just ground beef that sits in thebun in the warmer and the put toppings on it. I get the Stroganoff with onions sour cream, mushrooms and gravy. Cheese f course. It is a good sandwich. Nothing to write home abou, but a good 4 star sandwich that I crave from time to time. I take out of town guests here as well. good local place.
