Nope. Really don't know if they had an off day but the hype did not live up. First of all, I don't love a place that doesn't take Amex, but I can look passed it. Sure, fees, but I'm less likely to visit in general. The girl that took my ordered was nice. No complaints with the staff. I ordered two tacos and sweet potato fries. Aka I had two massive tacos filled with 90% shredded lettuce and sweet potato fries. Cold bacon. Cold chicken. Don't get me wrong - both meats were cooked, but they had clearly been sitting out for a long time before served. I barely touched the tacos and only ate the sweet potato fries. Not even remotely impressed.

I am so glad Jimmy Hula's is finally open and right around the corner from my house! I've had my eye on it for a while now. I stopped by for lunch on Saturday and tried 3 tacos and an appetizer. I enjoyed my food so much I had to come back the next day for more, this time bringing my husband along. I will definitely be back...multiple times a week!

The inside of the restaurant, slightly reminded me of Hurricane Grill. There were many food choices! So many tacos sounded so good. I had one taco that was shrimp and steak on the same taco! I've never eaten the two together in the same bite so that was my favorite. Another taco, had lots of mango/pineapple salsa on it.... and lots of it! There was a lot of sauce on both, so full of flavor! My 3rd taco was teriyaki chicken.... while it was very good, I dont think I really realized it was an "asian" flavor. I assumed their tacos would be small like tacolu, papi chulo's, and flying iguana taqueria.... but they are WAY more filling. I usually can eat 4 tacos at those other places. At Jimmy Hula's, 2 tacos is probably enough. 3, is way too much. I guess because they are more filled, their prices might be a little higher per taco though. The drink-check up service was good. It was typical plain customer service otherwise.

Walked in and thought "oh boy $4 for a taco, guess I'm going to have to buy three of them to satisfy me". I was wrong. One is enough. These are.big tacos and are fantastic. They grill the tortilla to the perfect hardness. Well worth the money. Only thing I would change is to include the salsa with the taco and nacho chips. To charge extra for a TINY container of salsa seems strange. Can't figure out the decor, seems contrived and canned. Like they just bought the standard "surf shop/cabo" restaurant decorations in a box set. Guess it doesn't really matter since the food is excellent.

We really enjoy the atmosphere and delicious fish tacos. They have the best fries, too.

I've been here twice in one week. After returning home sick from an awesome trip to Mexico, I still wanted to eat a good taco for some odd reason. Well I wasn't disappointed!!! The crack'd corn is sooooo good! A squeeze of lime, the cojita cheese and the parmesean make this corn perfect. I've also has the wipeout, the voodoo and the killer taco. I'm excited about trying other items on the menu. The crispy voodoo taco is my favorite so far. I'm not a huge fan of fries so I had to remove some of them from my wipeout taco but other than that everything was full of flavor and delicious!!!!

The Cajun fries are really good. The tacos are big, especially for the price. The food was fresh & quick. Highly recommend.

"Oh yeah! I can definitely see us coming back here!" We all gushed as we inhaled our amazing tacos. Jimmy Hula's has captured my heart and my taste buds by having the *best* and most *affordable* Fish Tacos I've had since "Son of a Fish" closed down in St. Augustine! The tacos were packed to the brim to the point where they were almost over flowing! To utilize this "problem," Jimmy Hula serves the tacos on a bed of tortilla chips to catch the overflow and to treat the diner with nachos afterwards. Now that's what I'm talking about!! Our favorite taco of the evening was the Killer! The fish was flaky and lightly fried and complimented by the crunchy cabbage followed by the heat of the "Haberno Boss Sauce." Another stand out was the Voodoo taco! The Voodoo had pineapple salsa and Voodoo Sauce. The flavor combination was wonderful and we really liked the sweetness the Voodoo sauce provided. The only taco we had tried that evening that didn't knock out socks off was the Baja taco. It was just a little bland compared to the other tacos we tried. Along with the Tacos, we also ordered Mojo fries which were quickly devoured! We realized the title "Mojo" derived from the lime and salt coating treatment of the fries verses the dipping sauce it came with. However, the Lava Sauce was a great addition for the fries too! My head was reeling from the LIGHTING FAST service as well! We ordered and found a seat and literally two minutes later they were bringing out our dinner! We couldn't BELIEVE IT! The only negative thing I can say about Jimmy Hula's is the fact they do not have a location closer to me!

Oh I get why some people are put off by Jimmy Hula's, but if you go with the right expectation, then you will really enjoy the experience most of all, the food is really unique and certainly worth the visit. Expectation1: this is a counter serve restaurant (think Disney World). Enter the doors and look for the cash register, this is where you order. Expectation 2: Your food will not come out at the same time, so don't be offended (think Hawkers). We had a party of six and the was maybe four minutes between the first person and the sixth person receiving their food. Expectation 3: There is a distinct between the temperature of the meat (hot) and the condiments (cold) on the tacos. It is a little unsettling, but it works. However the overall process makes the dish warm. Expectation 4: Service is friendly but not particularly efficient. My don and I split a burger and repeatedly asking for an extra basket just got no results. Expectation 4: Order zucchini fries with more zucchini fries. Yes, you will thank me later. Expectation 5: Order extra sauce from the start. More zucchini fry sauce, more sriracha sauce, and if you like really hot order habanero sauce. There, set your expectations and you will enjoy a fun and different menu.

So i just moved here, and i saw this place, so i figured id give it a try. And try i did! Lets start with what was good. The food. I got a burger and fries. Burger was cold (ill get to that in a second) but delish. and fries were awesome. Now with the bad. The woman taking my order. Holy crap. Wow. So there was a group of football looking guys and she was SO BUSY FLIRTING with them that she let my food sit on the damn counter for 10 minutes before i got up and asked for my food! Then i said, hold on while i check to see if its cold. Yup. My burger is cold. Another guy, wjo was nice said they would remake it for me, but i just waited 30 minutes for my food so no i dint want you to remake it! The girl instead of stay and deal with me, just walked right back over the the guys table and started talking to them more. I was in shock. How rude can you be. The woman needs to be fired asap. She let my food get cold, had poor customer service unless youre a 6'3" 220 pound football player. Shame on her. I will not be going back just because of this woman. Ny blood is boiling just wrighting this. Also, it happened TONIGHT. I would call and ask to speak to a manager but i watched the employee ignore all phone calls that were recieved.

The atmosphere was top notch, the menu was simple, the staff was decent and the location is convenient. Unfortunately that's about as much as I liked. Jimmy Hula's burgers where too greesy for my taste. Their cajun fries where great but oversalted. Their bowl was average. I have not tried a taco yet but my last two visits ended in a stomach ache so I probably won't be back. Overall I would say Jimmy Hula's is a restaurant you want to like but won't. The food just can't seal the deal. I would recommend going once and deciding for yourself but you'll probably end up realizing even the burger king across the street makes a better burger.

No cookies today for the kids. Someone should take the initiative to go buy some at Publix next door. Maybe they could use trays to carry food so my taco isn't resting on the runners boob.

Jimmy Crack'd Corn and I DON'T CARE! IDKW, the workers felt that I am the only person ordering corn?? Kind of funny but slightly annoyed. oh well.. I've been here twice in one week. I really like that this place is located in-town, for us "townies"! All jokes aside, I LOVE THIS PLACE! I'm really diggin' that beach, island vibe. I've tried, what seems to be, EVERYTHING? TACOS: Everything is good. I like that the flour tortilla is slightly toasted. It just gives the tacos a great texture. APPS/SIDES: So you've seen the movie "Nacho Libre", right? THAT CORN LOOKED SO GOOD! I had to try it here. Grilled corn with Cotija mexican cheese with paprika and cilantro. MOJO fries and Sweet potatoe fries were also tasty. BURGER: The Aloha burger comes with double patties and a grilled pineapple slice. It was tasty but the bun was not ideal. It falls apart as soon as you bite into it. SERVICE: friendly and prompt.

Since our book club has recently turned into "Daisy and Kristina want to try a new restaurant" club, we used it as an excuse to check out Jimmy Hula's, a place I'd had bookmarked on yelp for a while now. After our experience, I'm completely shocked at all the positive reviews. First, the good. The staff was friendly and the zucchini fries and sweet potato fries were very good. The vibe is fun, sort of like a more beachy Tijuana Flats. Unfortunately that is where the positives end. I ordered a BLAT and a wipeout taco and zucchini fries. My friend ordered just before me and also got two tacos and sweet potato fries. We sat down and her tacos came out super quickly. Our fries followed pretty fast after that. Like I said, zucchini and sweet potato fries were both delicious and piping hot. Then we waited. I saw a few tables who ordered after we did get baskets of fries. I figured that when I got my tacos they'd be super fresh and hot, like the fries were. Wrong. I started with the wipeout. The flavors were good but the fries, beef, and shrimp were all room temperature. Then I tried the BLAT. This one was easily 80% lettuce. When I got to the bacon, it was also cold. Her tacos were more of the same. If the meat was all pre-cooked and room temperature, why the wait? There are way too many places in Jax serving good tacos to waste a meal at Jimmy Hulu's. I had big expectations but this was an incredibly disappointing experience.

Food was average. Only reason I won't come back because the waitress' were super rude. We asked for the fans to be turned down because they were on full blast over our table and we got an eye roll by the first girl and was told they couldn't turn them down which was a lie. So my dad asked another girl to turn them down... Got another eye roll from her so she turns off the fans and opens the doors behind us which then made it hot. Definitely needs to work on customer service.

If you're looking for a simple yummy quick service stop in the east Arlington/intercostal area, look no further! I've been a few times now and suggest the blackened chicken teriyaki bowl (add avocado) and mojo fries. The hubby swears by the voodoo taco. I also love the root beer floats on the dessert menu for a sweet treat! Great stop to or from the beach :)

I'm impressed. I have to admit I walked in and didn't want to like it. I couldn't figure out the theme- Mexican? Cajun? American? I'm still not sure so I went with beachy. Since I was sure I wasn't going to like it we ordered a lot of food to sample. My only complaint about the menu was Pepsi products. I really don't like Pepsi products. It makes me not choose restaurants sometimes. There needs to be a sign guiding you to the register as we were not the only ones who walked in and tried to figure out if we waited to be seated or what. But we figured it out. I ordered the Mr Myagee salad that had cabbage, tomatoes, carrots and mushrooms with ginger dressing. It was really good. I wish they would have given me the option of adding chicken but even without it I enjoyed the salad. The taste was fresh and it was the perfect size. My husband tried the Cuban Spring rolls. What a neat concept. It was a Cuban sandwich wrapped up in a little Spring roll instead of bread and fried. I had a bite and it was quite tasty. He also tried the Cajun fries that came with the little dipping sauce. The fries were very good but the dipping sauce was just okay. I would eat the fries alone. He tried the banging beef taco. It was good but we both agreed that there was entirely too much onion. The taste overpowered the rest of the taco. Next time we're going to see if they can make it without onion because that taco had a lot of potential. Surprisingly to me, the best thing of the night was a killer fish taco with the blackened fish. Oh! My! Goodness! I don't even care for fish but that was so tasty and delicious! So... It was a soft opening and they're still trying to work out the kinks but I was quite impressed. If they get Wi-Fi my husband will use it as his once a week lunch spot that's closer to our house. We will definitely be back. I only hope they change to Coke products! You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't run in and try it.

Fantastic dining experience! Never been to a Jimmy Hula's but had heard rave reviews about it and I was not disappointed! Loved the island atmosphere and the fast fresh food. Had a Vodoo taco (which is their best seller) which was amazing and an Aloha burger which had teriyaki, grilled pineapple and cheese on the burger. (Wasn't sure I'd like pineapple on a burger but it was delish). We sampled the onion rings which were thick cut, crispy and as good as it gets. The zucchini fries were great and we loved the dipping sauce with it. For dessert we tried the cookie dough flautas which were unbelievable - it was cookie dough put into the center of a piece of dough and flash fried so the outside was crispy and the cookie dough was warm and melted. We were so full but ate it all anyway! Honestly, everything tasted fantastic and we will definitely be back. We were there on a Friday night and they had live music (the guy was great), an outside patio which was full and the music playing for all to hear. You order and pay at the register and they deliver the order to the table. The wait time was negligible and although the restaurant was busy the service was excellent and the attentive owners were on hand and welcoming. Excellent selection of beers and wine too. An unusual hybrid of fast food and full dining experience that is definitely needed. Very reasonably priced too! Well done.

The staff here are so kind courteous and friendly. All the food is made do fresh. I can never decide my favorite. But one thing I know for sure. I love the Voodoo sauce.

  • Swirleen H.

Great Great Food, however, the prices are rancid. You have to pay for everything... Including salsa. If you're going to charge for salsa, then give more than 3 Tablespoons for $1.99.

Oh Jimmys. I wanted to like you. I had high hopes. You are so close.... Positives The beer was tasty. The zucchini fries were excellent. Negatives The app we wanted was not avail. The fish taco was not good. The fish ( ordered blackened but revived grilled ) was not enjoyable. The service was pretty bad. Not attentive, order messed up and lastly ordered salsa that was on the bill but not delivered. I'll give another shot due to its location but I do not have high expectations.

Love this new place!! All the staff is super friendly and the food is always fresh and delicious. Wish they would wait on us instead of having to order at the counter, but that's really no biggie. They have a great beer selection and I do wish the wine selection was better. Maybe later :) the standard tacos and the street tacos are delicious!!! Prices are pretty decent as well. Location is great!!!

What a great night for Jimmy Hula's! My husband and I were trying out this place for the first time. We were promptly greeted and shown how to order (order up front then pick a table). I ordered the beef taco and island fish taco. Both were great but the beef taco was ...amazing! The tacos came with chips and I ordered a great paring of queso which was just as delicious as the beef taco. Hubs ordered the Burt Reynolds burger topped with a fried egg and lays chips. It looked delicious and he said he tasted just the same. We sat outside which was a tad quieter As the music was a bit loud but a wonderful accompaniment for a Friday evening. Great service all around, amazing food, we will be back!

I had the Diablo burger which was awesome! It's hard to find a restaurant that actually has spicy food and I love spicy food! My wife had the teriyaki bowl which was pretty good. Gonna try the tacos next time, they look pretty good. Pretty friendly staff

Great food! Really great, fresh food. Great atmosphere and California Hipster, Hawaiian surf decor. There are back car seats for booths. Tiki huts, steel drums and Reggae music. Not too loud. Nice staff. Pretty outside seating. We will definitely be back!

  • Kristal C.

This place is pretty good. I wouldn't say amazing but we def got our $ worth. Not too expensive. If you are getting fish tacos, blackened is the way to go. I got grilled and thought it was soggy and too chopped up. I like the way they heat up the flour tortillas though. So much better that way. Their cracked corn was really really good. My fav part of the meal. I would come back simply cause it's close to my house and it was fast, decently priced, and good.

Right around the corner. Fantastic tacos. Great beer selection. Open atmosphere with live music on Fridays. Love it!

GO HERE. Outstanding tacos. Wide variety. Toasted taco shells are delicious. I loved the banging beef and wipeout. The queso and guac are outstanding. ORDER THE ZUCCHINI FRIES. So, so good. Good meal options for kids too. TONS OF CRAFT BEER OPTIONS. Get the Lagunitas Lil' Sumpin Sumpin.

  • Bill K.

Went there this evening for the first time, and had a fish taco that was very good but also very messy. My wife had a burger with a slice of pineapple on it that was also very good but also very sloppy and a little greasy. For sides we got coleslaw, that had a very different taste than the usual coleslaw you find in Jacksonville, it kind of grew on you after a few bites. We also got an order of onion rings that were just MEH nothing special. The service was very good and also helpful. Would I make a special trip to eat here again ... no, but if I was already in the area and was hungry I would definitely stop in and grab a bite to eat.

  • Caroline S.

If there was 4 1/2 stars I'd give it that. The burger I had was fabulous! Aloha, no pineapple no creamy Teri Juicy all the way through. The 1/2 star deduction is for fries came separately and not as the same time as burger. I got the zucchini fries and they were tasty too.

    (5)
  • Mitchell L.

I wouldn't call this place a burger joint because I will never buy a burger there. The reason... Their fish tacos are to die for. I don't think I could walk into the place and order anything else. Friendly staff and good vibe. Live music on Fridays. Cheap good Hawaiian beer.

  • Elijahs M.

I have now given this place three different tries, the first time tasted okay but I wasn't really happy about the small frozen tasting shrimp, the second time was decent, but we sat outside on the patio and were swarmed by an unusual amount of seagulls that kept flying really close to our heads and pooping all around our table, and although as the staff delivered our food and noticed them, it just seemed like normal business for the place..as well as the garbage that was overflowing and obviously being devoured by the lovely birds. Today, we ordered our meal to go, I noticed that they do not offer salsa with the bag of chips that comes along with the meal, but for $2 more you can get a medium sized ramekin (like a dressing cup) full of Pico, and I guess the food does not travel well, as by the time we got home (5 minutes from door to door) our food was soggy and cold, and half of the $25 I spent ended up in the garbage because it was awful. If the staff were not so friendly I would have given 0 stars, so the two that I am giving is to the fabulous employees.

Had lunch here after a recommendation from a friend. The best fish tacos in Jacksonville and the sweet potato fries were excellent. I really like the cushy bench seats and the beach atmosphere. Give it a try.

My wife and I love this place. Meeting one of owners, Lisa we encouraged her to consider using the bounty of our local fish and shrimp from Mayport which is less than 5 miles from their Atlantic Beach store. I encourage them to support local business. I would pay more for that taco or poboy

Stopped in for lunch and there were maybe 10 customers. Nobody greeted me so I wasn't sure if I seated myself or what. I was told to grab a menu from outside and order at the counter. I didnt see a sign so I dont know if there was one explaining what to do. I asked the cashier what her favorites were and she gave some suggestions. I love tacos and fish tacos at that so I ordered every taco they had. The killer taco was good but every other one was saturated in so much sauce it wasnt that great. The tortillas were heated on a flat top which made them crunchy. Not exactly what I wanted. Fish was very chewy. I like to give every restaurant a chance but after waiting months for this place to open I have to say I was a bit disappointed.

  • Bob G.

Nasty experience!!! The food came out in shifts. One order was terrible done wrong and when we mentioned it to the staff we had to get a menu to prove it was wrong. The cook didn't even know how to make that "tree hugger taco." He too had to look at the menu. His reply was priceless, "no problem, I'll make another one!" No problem for them, just a problem for the customer who has already paid for the food. No one apologized for the mistake they just delivered the food after everyone else had finished their food. Nice experience!!

This place is fantastic. I'd never tried it before and we got the fish tacos and the Diablo burger. All I can say about the burger is WOW. The fuego sauce is maybe the hottest sauce I have ever had at a restaurant. I have a high tolerance and it had me on the verge of tears. Well done!

Ehhh...my first time here and I guess I caught it on a bad night. Not very busy. Not very friendly. Not very much meat in my taco. Got the cold mojo fries and street taco with pork and it was the saddest taco I have seen in a while. I will try this again on another night.

I heard about this place a handful of days ago. I saw that it was open so I was there. At the beach near lunch time and a new restaurant opens. I'm all over it. I walked in today and the place is kind of hooky with all the old surfboards ad signage from Hawaii. They have some palm frons roof thingies here and there. The seats are on a raised deck for some reason. Got me with hat one. You walk in and up to the cashier and order your food then it's off to get a seat. I went with a burger today. The Juan Jovi which means two patties and some ham and pork along with the normal fixings. They brought me my burger and the mojo fries. Now mojo fries are just normal skinny fries with some mojo sauce. A lemony sauce with some other stuff thrown in. Not bad but not great. The burger was pretty tasty and the ham added a nice bit of sweet. In al a pretty darn good burger. Now I will return and I look forward to trying something on the other side of the menu. Later Bra

I loved it. First off, if there is Mexican Street Corn, I'm there. If it's great, We really enjoyed the ambiance. Bra playing a guitar, great service, outstanding food. I'm a taco gal. I ordered the Wipeout. Steak, shrimp, avocado, fries, baha sauce. Serious Noms. I tried some of a steak teriyaki bowl :sigh: - I don't know what to order next time!! The staff was attentive and the service was fast.

I absolutely adore this place! It is in my neighborhood so I have to stop myself from eating there everyday. I enjoyed the Cuban spring rolls, Baja crispy fish taco, grilled avocado, and aloha burger. The service is very friendly. I will return to try their salads and grilled corn. I also love their beer selection!

My new favorite spot for tacos. Good food, great service, and a clean restaurant. Whether I'm hungry and want to pig out, or want something lighter, they have it & it's good! My fav is the wipeout/all steak. Mmmmm.
