I think there are some growing pains. The line was a little confusing and I don't think that's the restaurants fault. Sandwiches are MASSIVE. I took half of mine to go. The deli salads are legit. Really liked the ones we picked - potato and macaroni. I have the Madison square garden without mushrooms and I really liked it. A friend got the urban cowboy (half) and soup. The soup was frozen when she got it. The sign says made fresh daily but I don't know how that's possible with ice chunks in it. The potatoes were solid and cold. They microwaved her soup and gave it back to her. I don't like when places microwave the food. Another friend bought the second city dog and was pretty mediocre to where he didn't eat most of it. Good to have new options near work but I'm not sure I'll be back for awhile.

I don't normally write anything negative about anyone. But since I am originally from the Northeast and I grow up eating great pastrami, I felt compelled to write about this experience. The pastrami I had yesterday at this restaurant did not look or taste like pastrami. Their representation that they serve real NY pastrami is at best, misleading. And to make it worse, the sandwich costs $12.00! Don't bother going here. Instead, go to the airport get on an airplane to New York City and go to Katz's Deli will you will get the real thing.

"Marinara sauce on an Italian Sandwich??? This is either going to be worst idea ever---or the *BEST* idea ever!" I thought to myself as I placed my order today at the newly opened Gandolfo's. Well! Let me tell you. IT WAS THE BEST SANDWICH I HAVE HAD ALL YEAR!!!!! Jacksonville has a new amazing Deli and I don't know if I can ever go back to anything else! The amazing sandwich I got was called the "Mama Leone." The sandwich was packed thickly with savory Ham, salami, pepperoni, provolone, parmesan, tomato, onions, marinated mushrooms, and green peppers all tied together with marinara sauce! This sandwich was ridiculously delicious. In fact, I kept yelling, "OH my GOSH this is sooooooo GOOD!" loudly from my office to no one in particular the entire time I was eating it. I thought the Marinara sauce was just going to be a layer on top of the sandwich but it tasted more like all the elements had been soaked in the Marinara sauce beforehand to bring the symphony of Italian flavors really together. I really cannot recommend this delicious sandwich enough! GO NOW and get it! Gandolfo's is right nearby the Starbucks and Your Pie Southeside by the Tinsel Town area. I know I've got a new favorite place for lunch now!!!!

Last night I went to Gandolfo's for the first time and ordered the "Big Apple." It was AWESOME! I loved it! It came with with cappicola, roast beef, pepper jack cheese, feta cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions and pepperoncinis, mayo and olive oil and vinegar dressing. The sandwich had the option of hot or cold, and I got it hot. I sat down and they brought the sandwich directly to me. It didn't take very long. Cappicola is a pork cold-cut that is similar to prosciutto or salami and it was especially delicious! I thought the pepperjack cheese, and pepperoncini gave it a nice kick, but the feta made it creamy. The bread was the perfect texture, not hard as a rock but solid enough to hold in the juices. I liked the unusual but complimentary ingredients. This place rocks and I can't wait to go again!!!

Big servings almost comparable to an actual ny deli without the huge prices. Pretty tasty. Menu items are available all day much like a ny deli too! Longer review coming soon!

I think this place is a bit below average. The first time I went I was eager for some New York-style food. I got a Reuben with cole slaw instead of sauerkraut. It was pleasant, but it's hard to make a reuben bad. The ingredients could have been better, and it wasn't as good as I'd hoped it would be. I also got an old NYC specialty: the black and white cookie. This one wasn't up to NYC standards though. If they want to do the NYC thing I think they should add a New York-style cheesecake to their menu. The second time I went I had my standard turkey on wheat. I'd say it was a bit below average: I'm not a big fan of their wheat bread. The place seems more expensive than average. A combo is over $10, and that turkey sandwich was $9-something, though it was pretty big. For my turkey sandwiches I'll stick to Jimmy John's, perhaps Jason's, and maybe even Subway.

One grill and three microwaves. Even Subway has the decency to install ovens to warm their food. I've never had such tasteless pastrami- its flavor is nuked right out of it. It's telling when a "New York Deli" doesn't have any locations north of Maryland.

Just tried this place after reading about it in the local paper. Floor was dirty, had to wait at the cash register to make order that took way too long to place, price for a corned beef sandwich not overstuffed was almost $11, Potato salad was not good, Wall menu is very confusing. This is not at all representative of a good NY Deli; we will not return.

Great sandwiches and great service! I had the hot pastrami and it was awesome! It was even served on soft, fresh, marble rye.

Was excited to try a "ny deli" in Jax. Very disappointed. A Thomas bagel not even toasted with a couple of strips of cream cheese not even spread on the bagel. PASS on this place

Monster sandwiches- New York style! The Knickerbocker is what I tried on my first visit, and it was a slam dunk! Piled high with thinly sliced roast beef and on a soft 6 inch bun. They have a nice selection of sides - not just chips. I had the sour cream potato salad, which was excellent! The space that they are in gets crowded quickly and clean tables to sit at are tough to come by. They have set their prices a little higher for the normal lunch crowd, but well worth the prices.

I see all the negative reviews, and I can see why many are disappointed. Is it a NY deli? No of course not. Are the prices too high? Yes. Will it succeed because the locals don't know better and want to be a part of it? Of course. Typical Jacksonville restaurant, all hype but no show. The local business love it though. It's convenient but it ain't New York, yah know what Imma sayin'

I haven't had sandwiches like this since I lived in the northeast. I've tried the pastrami on rye and the corned beef on rye, both with Swiss and spicy mustard. Both were excellent. Meat piled high. Lunch will typically run you in excess of $10 but it's worth it. The first time I went, the potato salad had very large chunks and was undercooked. I asked for a sample the 2nd time around and it was much improved. So you might want to request a sample before ordering, just in case. The manager was very friendly and said they were probably training someone at the time. They can get busy during lunch. They're not speedy nor are they terribly slow, but you should expect to wait a few minutes to order and receive your food.

To be honest, I don't remember a ton about the food. I'm pretty sure I enjoyed it as I usually remember bad meals. However, I do remember it taking over 30 minutes to get my food order. There was one girl and it seemed like she was training the other, but there were only maybe 5 food orders that needed to be made. I felt like even in a training situation, it could have been handled better/more quickly (like maybe make all the food before sweeping outside?)

Best Pastrami sandwich in the south. This place has amazing food. Giant New York Style Kosher Dill Pickles, 1/2 sandwich and soup is more than enough but get the whole sandwich because you will want it for later. Mushroom Bisque soup, holy cow is so very good. Great atmosphere, television on the wall if you must watch the ticker, big enough for large groups and they can cater your next event. I found this place a while ago and now I can't stay away. Got to try it.

A New York Deli. This one is true not like any real New York Deli that I have ever been to. The menu has a lot of New York names. Like the Yankee, The Big Apple, Central Park, The knuckle Sandwich. I asked for a typical Italian. You know ham, salami, pepperoni, prosciutto, and coppa. I ended up with a sandwich they called Little Italy and it contained the following. A little ham, a lot of turkey, provolone 3 slices of pepperoni and a lot of lettuce and some mayo. The bread was really fresh and soft but lacked the crispy crust that a true NYC sub should have. Don't get me wrong it was a good sandwich just not a NYC sub. The whole NYC deli is nothing like this place which is big and roomy. No deli in New York is roomy. This place is like a subway on steroids for sure. I probably will eat here again cause it is one of the better sandwiches in the area. Maybe if you take away Jason's who has a Pastrami sandwich that could almost rival Katz in size only and Juicy Kitchen that is not that far away.

Stopped in for breakfast. We ordered the sausage egg and cheese on a kaiser roll and BLT. Both were huge and tasty. Bacon was piled high and both bacon and eggs were cooked fresh. I had hoped for Taylor ham.on the menu but sadly it was not. The egg sandwich reminded me when I lived up Noth except the roll.was soft. A little disappointing but is was a good breakfast. Recommend for anyone looking to enjoy a little of the north in the south.

Usually bananas are made into pudding when you can't sell the bananas any more. Not the case here. This is full of fresh cut bananas. Just like mom used to make. The Tuna sandwich was perfect. Staff super friendly and proud of their work. That goes a long way and makes you trust them more than the unhappy lumps at Jimmy John's for example. A true new York deli. Bravo!

I needed to grab a quick lunch and I've been wanting to try the sandwiches here. On their menu I noticed a vegetarian section which is great for me and the days I strive to be meatless. They have a grill in view to cook up meats for their sandwiches which is where I am assuming the delicious smell was coming from. Today I decided to try their Madison Square Garden sandwich, cucumber, lettuce, tomato, marinated mushrooms, green pepper, avocado, spicy mustard, oil and vinegar on sourdough. It was great, and huge! The spicy mustard definitely adds a nice little kick, further proving that with the right accompaniments...veggies CAN taste amazing!

Went for a breakfast sandwich with the wife. Wanted something quick to eat. We both ordered a eqq sandwich hers with bacon and cheese on a plain bagel. Mine egg and cheese onions and peppers on a multigran bagel. Real egg which was awesome. Only complaint they didn't toast the bagel. Seems like the bagel was microwaved. But all in all it was a really good sandwich and we will be back for lunch.

"NY Style"??? C'mon. Had high hopes for a bagel. Alas, they have no idea. Got a plastic bagged wonderbread-quality bagel heated on a griddle. They have overplayed the whole New York thing. What a bust.

FANTASTIC!! We went for the 1st time today and will be back many times to come! It is located in between Gate and Tapestry Park in the Center to the left of Starbucks and Aloft. So good, real deal NY deli. Too many options to list. I opted for the BYO sandwich, my old reliable, roast beef of rye with swiss and mayo. I was back on LI the 1st bite. Quality, fresh meats and sides. You can truly taste the difference, nothing here is processed. The Pesto Tortellini is still al dente and delish! Hubby had the Cheesesteak and it was huge and delicious, he was not able to finish it all. Great pricing for the quality, nice sit in restaurant. Want to really try NY deli...go no farther than here! Had to get a Black/White cookie too. Plus, open on the weekends and breakfast all day...stop!

Huge menu options - a bit pricey - but many selections with high end meats and chesses. I order a veggie sub and it was one if the best I've ever had before and top 3 of all time. They have outside patio seating available = a must try for anyone

It was pretty tasty but they didn't get our order right and it is very pricey. For almost $12 a sandwich, you'd think you'd get a side and drink for that price. Nope. Just a pickle. You're better off going to Jason's deli around the corner.

Placing the order took a while- cashier not properly trained, but very apologetic and sweet. All tables were dirty, should have been a clue. Had to clean one before sitting down. When the food arrived, we noticed the "Albacore" (per their menu) tuna was merely cat food quality, and on a sub roll, not the wheat bread that was ordered. Husband very nicely took it back up to the counter and asked about the tuna. Manager gruffly stated, "That is what they send us." So even after taking back the sandwich and 99 cent pickle, NO refund was offered!! Not even an apology from the manager. So my husband returned to the table to eat his bland soup. Cashier came over and asked if she could get us something else, and apologized. We declined. STILL NO OFFER FOR A REFUND. Other food just okay. Extremely poor customer service. Not worth the hassle or money.

This place is wonderful. Came here after having a bad experience down the street at Jimmy John's. Got pretty much the same sub, but better quality and added bacon. The owner works there so you know she's keeping tabs on the place, the pasta salad was amazing and the banana pudding was good too! Worth going to!

Yuck, oil and vinegar , tomatoes and lettuce on a meatball hero. NOO thank you. It was so gross I threw it out. Def not a New York deli. My husband got an egg sand which on a bagel, bagel was hard tasted like it was frozen. Don't think we will be back.

I stopped by for a quick lunch and despite the disinterested service the food was really tasty. I got the manhattan transfer and my husband got the reuben. We also tried the tomato soup. The bread tasted homemade and the sandwiches had a lot of flavor. The soup was tasty but slightly thin for a bisque style. If they can step up the service I think this place will do really well. --ate here again recently and both my husband and I got sick :(

I love going to this place. Their breakfast is awesome and the menu is huge. I still need to make it back for lunch. Probably worth looking through the menu before you go because there are so many options - the menu literally covers an entire wall.

Great sandwich shop, the Little Italian was quite delicious and filling. My boss ordered the Ruben Rockefeller and we did a trade, half for half. I would definitely come back. It is on the higher side $$ for a sandwich shop though... I will say the portions are quite large.

I came here for lunch to get the usual and they changed the menu, they changed the bread, and they changed the sizes of the sandwich. Just two days ago I came here and it was wonderful, but now corporate comes and changed everything around for the worse. While I was there the VP of Corporate, Dain Pool, had an attitude the whole time towards customers. He informed me with his smartass attitude that the quality of the bread is better even though you are getting jipped since the bread is skinnier and it's not a full sub roll anymore. He is also re-training the employees how to make sandwiches from now on. The size of the sandwich is 5 inches smaller than before. The bread is so hard and the whole sandwich is way smaller. You definitely get less for the money you pay. I would not recommend it to anyone anymore. I used to go here a lot, but now I won't. DO NOT GO HERE. At 12:10 on a work day with large corporations all around, there's only two people in the restaurant, I WONDER WHY? Way overpriced for the value of the food and customer service.

BEWARE! The CDO is in the restaurant on 6/16/15 with his "smart-alecky" attitude re-training the employees on how to make sandwiches! BEWARE - the WHOLE sandwich went from 12" to 7". That's right - 5" smaller. The CDO of Corporate advised me that yes, it is smaller, but more meat and better bread. Not true! When you reduce the size of the WHOLE sandwich 5", then there is less meat, less bread. Common sense! No more sub rolls . . . now it is the HARD, flatter bread. Ordered sandwich hot, it came to the table cold. The CDO had his "Do Not Care, Cocky" attitude. He told me three times that he was VP of Corporate. He is proud of his title. According to their website, the CEO and CDO have the same last name. I almost threw-up my sandwich when I heard him tell his employees that this restaurant is a "Hidden Treasure". It was about 12:10 p.m., right in the peak of lunch hour, surrounded by large corporations and major hotels, and there were 2 other people in the restaurant. Obviously run by poor ownership. That's my experience! I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anybody. THERE ARE OTHER GREAT DELI'S AROUND THE AREA, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND FIND ONE! MY ADVICE IS TO NEVER EAT AT GANDOLFO'S.

Terrible service. High prices. Food was a C at best. Left off part of my pickup order and refused to refund me. Will never be back and made sure to tell all my coworkers of how shitty this place is.
