Love Dickeys!! I'm from Texas and when I'm craving some Texas style chopped beef sandwiches, this is the place to go!

I've been here twice and the second was better than the first time. The prices are great the food taste fresh and delicious, plus if you dine in they give you for free soft serve vanilla ice cream cones.

Not even as good as school lunch! For such a small place with so few people I expected a lot "fresher," food. I had a sandwich, 2 sides and a drink. I had chicken, not a real BBQ choice I know but for the price I expected at least something cooked today. The chicken was a boneless chicken breast that had little to no sauce. The most important thing I can say is temperature it's way too cool the chicken was room temperature the bun was unheated the baked beans were so luke warm it made me feel like their saving money by keeping everything ultra low. My other side was "Iron waffle fries," these were cooked fresh but what I got was a bag of broken pieces c'mon people at least spread the broken pieces out in orders the fact I was dining in and this is what they presented to me nothing but 1/4-1/2 potato pieces leads me to realize they just suck, and for $12.50(including drink) skip this place and pay $2 more to eat at outback or join your kids for a school lunch cause at least that would be fresh and served hot.

Jacksonville is full of BBQ restaurants and I'm a little picky when it comes up BBQ. Having said that, Dickeys is one of the best in the city. I know it's a chain but forget that and enjoy your meal. This place is nothing fancy, you order at the counter and pick up your food at the counter as well. They offer a larger variety of sides than most BBQ places, including things like jalapeño beans and fried okra at no extra cost. The pulled pork is very tasty, tender, and not fatty. The BBQ beans have a smoky flavor which is very enjoyable and the fried okra is hot, fresh, and not greasy or old from sitting in heat lamps. They made it fresh and brought it to my table when it was done. They have three BBQ sauces: regular, sweet, and spicy. All are tomato based with a good flavor and I enjoyed combination of the regular and spicy sauces. They should add a mustard sauce but the ones they do have are all first rate. Also, the sweet tea is real (no Nestea) and the perfect companion to their BBQ meal. They give you giant yellow travel cups so be sure and get some tea to go. My niece even enjoys stacking the cups and building towers Jenga style. After you've stuffed yourself with a giant BBQ meal you can enjoy free ice cream from their machine for dessert. I'll be back here next time I'm in town and want to check out their location near DC next.

Disgusting restaurant, dirty, unsanitary. Tables, chairs, floor and even the windows were dirty. Nothing was fresh. No plates and plastic utensils. Bbq sauce station was a mess with dried sauce spilled around cans and on wall. Kitchen area was closed. No idea where they cooked their meat. Microwaved their macaroni. I'm surprised that it's in business especially with a Bono's practically across the street. Only positive was that the employee's (only 2) were nice.

I really love the chicken at Dickey's BBQ! And the rolls are really yummy as well. I have had a few hiccups in service over the past but they have always tried really hard to remedy the problem. It is not my favorite BBQ in town but definitely up there in my book!

I use to love this place (We literally have a cupboard full of Dickey's cups that how much we ate there and told people they should eat here) was there today 04/04/2015 around 7:30pm. I ordered the three meat plater one of the meats they hardly had spicy cheddar sausage :(. My yeast roll was so hard, Mac and cheese looked old (over cooked the cheese started to dry out) plus had to remind the employees that there was no ice, restaurant was dirty (the girls should have cleaned instead of gossiping behind the bar about sour cream), and after we left three of the girls that were working all went outside and sat on their butts. Sigh no more for us until this gets fixed.

I am definitely a fan of Dickey's. On the few times I've been there I've always had great experiences. The people who work their are nice. You get your food quickly and yet it's FRESH. I have taken to ordering whatever the special is for whatever day I'm there b/c I think it's the best deal...You get whatever meat they are offering plus 2 sides, a roll and a drink for $8.99. Also they have free soft serve cones for dessert afterwards.

What pit?!!! I went in and ordered "pulled pork", and they took out a plastic baggie full of pork and cut it open! What is this, a hospital?! I looked in the back, and saw the whole kitchen, and saw no pit! Outside, there is no smoke stack. Right across the street, you can see Bono's and they have a smoke stack. Well, the meat was predictably bland. Fortunately, they make a good sweet sauce. It's more the Texas style sauce, and they didn't have a mustard based, but that's alright if the do it well. Cover the bland meat with their sauce, and it's edible. The waffle fries are pretty good too. Still, I have no reason to return. Bono's is across the street (though that particular Bono's has lousy service) and there's a place called Rib Shack on Baymeadows that's pretty good.

For Jacksonville, this place has some awesome fall off of the bone ribs. I would say it's a 3.5 out of 5. Jacksonville BBQ is low quality at best. But this place is pretty high quality. I recommend getting the beef brisket, they have sliced and they have chopped. The chopped is just the sliced chopped up finely. If there is a line, it will take a few minutes because they only have one person slicing the meat. My review is on the meat, not the service. The sides are just alright at best. But, I love the meat when it falls off of the bone and is moist. Hot BBQ sauce is awesome as well. Free Ice Cream as well.

very small portion for the price...people on front don't know anything about their product, waited on sides at the table, and the cashier had trouble making change. Not a good experience for me and my wallet votes a BIG NO.

Ate there last night and the fried okra was amazing! So nice to have such a good, homestyle barbeque spot in town. We will definitely go back. Staff was friendly and the wait for food was really short, which I love!

Saw that it was opened and decided to try it out. Friendly folks, dining area a bit small. Service is a bit slow based on the set-up, you place your order at the chop table and it takes a while before the plate can be passed on. Will likely be faster once they get into their groove and the preparers get more experience. Interesting that the food is served on a metal tray on top of wax paper, plenty of room on the plate. Meat portions seem rather small, tasted okay, but a couple having the ribs raved about them at nearby table. Plastic ware was the nice kind, large sauce cups to server yourself. I liked the hot BBQ sauce variety. Sides portion was good in a large cup. Beans were watery and not much BBQ taste in them, you will have to add some sauce to your tasting. Coleslaw was real good, reminds me of the coleslaw at KFC. The dinner roll they give you is rather good I thought. Drinks are self-serve, no banana pudding on the menu (kind of a must for a BBQ joint in the South) but free soft-serve ice cream made up for it. Staff seemed real attentive and courteous. Price for the portion I got seemed a bit high, but BBQ isn't generally cheap at most places.

My husband and I are big fans of Southern barbeque, so we decided to check out Dickey's for Texas-style barbeque. Although I usually order pork for my barbeque, I decided to try the beef brisket, which I know Texans are famous for. It was delicious, and I liked the fact that you could scoop out your choice of heated barbeque sauces. The sauce I tried was really tasty. So why the two-star rating? Because I was less than impressed with everything else. The slaw wasn't particularly good -- I only had a few bites -- and the baked beans were watery and lacked flavor. The banana pudding was a complete failure. It's just banana cream-flavored instant pudding with two vanilla wafers wrapped separately on top and no bananas, meringue or whipped cream. So if it's beef brisket you're after, Dickey's gets an A rating, but for delicious Southern barbeque, sides and desserts, there are a few other barbeque joints in Jacksonville that we enjoy more.

Hubby and I were first introduced to Dickey's in Flowood, MS which is where a lot of my family lives. We've been to that one many times and I gave it 5 stars. When I learned there was one opening here in Jax, I was hella excited! But.... I just can't make myself love the one here. If I didn't have the one in MS to compare it to, I'd probably give it 4 stars, but it just doesn't live up to the other one, so only 3 stars from me. I always order the brisket and it's very, very good. The brisket is some of the best I've ever had. It's very tender. I also love, love, love the sweet sauce. I'm a big fan of sweet bbq sauce and a lot of bbq places don't offer it. So that is definitely a plus. It's really the sides I have a problem with here. At the Dickey's in MS, the mac & cheese and the potato salad is to positively die for! At this Dickey's, they are just ok... nothing special. Since it is a chain, you'd think the sides would all be the same, but no, they are not. I've also had consistency issues with the rolls here. Sometimes they are hot, soft, and yummy. Other times they are cold and kinda hard. The restaurant is very clean. The area where they carve the meat is kept clean and I like the fact you can watch them getting your food ready. The owner and employees are very nice. And bonus... they have a free ice cream machine so you can finish your meal off with a nice little treat. Tip: Sign up for their emails to get some nice coupons!

I love the ribs and the spicy sauce. For barbeque, the price and portions are always right. They are so tender, and meaty. My husband loves the chopped brisket, the sliced brisket, smoked turkey, and the pulled pork. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure there's anyone that we haven't liked. There can be a line, as everything is prepared kinda like a cafeteria line and there's only one meat cutter. I like that fries and okra are cooked to order so they are always fresh. There's free ice cream for dine-in customers, and it seems to be a hit with the kids. Oh...and kids eat free on Sunday. It can get rowdy sometimes, but for the most part families don't have their children running around interrupting meals of others in the open dining room. For take-out service, I use online ordering. It makes it easy to pick up something for dinner on my way home. I think we've eaten here too much, I can tell by the number of Big Yellow Cups that I have at any given time.

Great value, great food. I will not be going back to 4 Rivers now that I found Dickeys. Quick service. Owners are real southern gentlemen. Food was truly superb. Brisket and pulled pork were great. I know its a chain but it is great. Goofy looking location did not worry me, the food is awesome. Hot bbq sauce self serve. Free ice cream. Great sides. What more could you ask for!!!!

I think Dickey's is gonna surprise you. I had dreams about their BBQ sauce. We've been in a few times now and I can tell you... the chopped brisket is amazing! Any meat you order will be prepped right in front of you... so they carefully take out the brisket, chop it all together, with the juicy fat bits...MMMMM.... and what you get is a juicy flavorful delicious pile of meat! It does take a little while to get through the line, since they are serving up individual orders, but wait for it, cause it's worth it. When ordering sides, remember that some of the items are featured "Texas Style", so if you are used to your momma's potato salad, and you might be disappointed. But try something new! I will say, the dill version is not my favorite, it was still good and made well. Fried okra is just that as well... nothing too exciting, but good fried goodness. And the sauce..... OMG the sauce. I mixed the regular and the sweet together... it has just enough sweetness and heat that pairs perfectly with that mouthwatering brisket. The second trip, I made sure to buy a bottle of it to have at home... it was that great! So, yes, it's a franchise, it's in a strip mall, but haven't we all learned that lesson, don't judge a book yet? The owner is a super sweet guy and puts a lot of love into this place. :) So check it out for yourself!

I've been to this location many times. It's not a fancy restaurant and kind of a hole in the wall but the food is always good. I really like the pulled pork sandwich and the fried okra. Their buns are very soft and fresh and the spicy BBQ sauce is yum! I only wish they sold the spicy BBQ sauce to I could have this at home. I don't know if I am visiting at off times. I've only been on the weekends and it's never busy. I hope more people will visit this little gem...I'd like to see it stick around for a while.

This was not only great BBQ and amazing sides but the manager went out of his way to make sure we had an electrical outlet for my husband's oxygen machine. I am a two state certified BBQ judge and found the meats were juicy, flavorful and in very generous portions. You have to try it!

Commercial bbq cooked in a metal tank or bbq oven not a pit and not with hardwoods!. All the meats have the nasty liquid smoke/marinade for their main flavor. Sauces are bland and low quality the sides aren't any better. I love bbq but i find myself posting the same review every time we try one of these commercial joints. Needless to say we didn't eat it we got a refund went home whipped up some chips and dip and fired up a real smoker and made some real bbq. Commercial = fail

Don't sleep on Dickey's Bbq!! Very pleasantly surprised, stopped in after work, starving, and we were helped by a very nice girl at the counter. I got the special for the day bbq pulled pork sandwich with 2 sides and a drink for $8.99 Hubby got the turkey dinner with 2 sides $10(?) Man everything was good!! It all tasted "homemade"..... Made with love! Lol Pulled pork was different being it was not drenched in bbq sauce just smoked pulled pork, it was tender and flavorful and I liked I could determine how much bbq sauce I wanted on it. Turkey was super moist and tasted great...turkey can be kinda boring but when you dip it into their bbq sauce ......fireworks!! My husband said this was his favorite bbq sauce of any bbq place. The sides were good...we got baked potato casserole, coleslaw, baked beans....we were happy with all of it.........I thought their would be leftovers to take home but nope no leftovers ate it all, so yummy!! Go try it!!

I will start by saying my previous visits to Dickeys BBQ have all been pleasant but not last night !!! 1st they close at 9pm went in about 8:15.. The BBQ sauce bar was closed down, ladles taken out so no BBQ Sauce!! The Ice cream machine was broken down for cleaning so No Ice Cream ... To me this should be done after closing... Not 8:15 so you can walk out at 9pm !!! Then was gonna order BBQ chicken, young lady advised our chicken is only boneless, skinless breast!!! Who doesn't serve dark meat bone in chicken at a BBQ joint !!! Lastly wife got the pulled pork stuffed baked potato!!! Woke up in the middle of the night very sick !!!! Don't know if it was food poisoning or not but strange after she eating here... She never gets sick !!! Will be quite sometime if we ever visit here again ... This experience was not pleasurable at all !!!

We were both super excited when we found out Dickey's was coming to Jacksonville..sadly it's not quite as good as the Mississippi restaurant. The food itself is just okay.... The sides, which are absolutely yummy at the MS location are just okay...I really hope the sides improve over time, because it's hard to find a good BBQ joint! The service was good; everyone was friendly and smiling. We will give this another try in the future.

First-timers, Thursday night 6:30pm. Ribs salty, and tasted old. Green Beans were oily, no bacon taste. Onion Tanglers side, was burnt. Bread hard outside, doughy inside. No Garlic Bread! or at least better bread! No sliced Pork! Turkey was fine. Cole Slaw was good. Beans different, both great northern, and pinto? or kidney beans? Got Jalapeño couldn't tell. Choices slim. Will not chance them again.
