The restaurant was surprisingly clean in the dining area for a roughly, renovated joint. I was pleased by this. The waitress (a beautiful woman from Jordan) was polite and offered the fried shrimp special which came with 2 side dishes and hushpuppies for $9.95. I also ordered the fried mushrooms appetizer. Let's just say that the food is very fresh, hand prepared and delicious. I didn't particularly enjoy the hushpuppies-they were lacking much flavor and quite sweet tasting. My mushrooms were the best fried mushrooms I had ever eaten and they even looked nice on my plate. The batter was not lumpy and mushy. Instead, it was lightly coated and crispy golden-brown. The mushrooms were cut thick and juicy with every bite. Yes! The shrimp were large, plump and plentiful. They don't seem to be stingy with food at this place and that is always an added star for a seafood restaurant. I always order remoulade (sauce) with my seafood if the chef carries it. Most waiters/waitresses outside of France or New Orleans have no idea what I am talking about until I mention "the sauce that comes with onion rings". Then their whole face lights up. I usually end up explaining to them that it is called 'remoulade' and often eaten with seafood as it was created to compliment this type of entree'. The waitress at this place says she makes her own by hand. I told her to puhleeze bring me some so I could taste it...*drumroll please* it was AWESOME SAUCE, literally :) Next time I am in the northern part of the sunshine state, I will definitely be visiting Crabby Ben's. The service and food was very acceptable.

I just lowered my rating; I won't be returning to Crabby Ben's. A week ago, I went with a friend to order my favorite (stuffed flounder, rice pilaf, and green beans). The waitress told me that they no longer serve that dish on the lunch menu. I pointed out that it was still on the lunch menu (and showed it to her). She left to talk to the manager. When she returned, I was told that they would "make an exception" this time and allow me to order an item that's clearly on their menu (it wasn't like they were temporary out of stock). I just can't handle this inept management any more (see my previous rating below). Original Rating Description: I think the food is excellent, and the prices are hard to beat. I usually go during lunch, and my favorite meal is the stuffed flounder, rice pilaf, green beans, and hush puppies. Absolutely scrumptious! Having said that, I must point out that the servers (and management) are pretty bad. Consider these examples: 1.) I was waiting at the counter to pay my bill recently, when the manager got into an argument with a supplier (something about uniforms? mops? I dunno, nor do I care...but the management was upset because she had to take certain things home to be re-washed...which, apparently, is the job of the supplier). One of the rules of business it to never, EVER, have an argument with employees / suppliers in front of a customer. EVER!!! Take it to an office...take it outside...do it after closing. But do NOT, EVER, have these types of arguments in front of your customers!!! 2.) The wait staff are nice, but very, very inexperienced. I'm not expecting Michelin-star performance for these prices, but please get some wait staff who can remember to bring the side item, refill my tea on occasion, or bring my check. I realize that they're very young adults, but COME ON! Someone needs to teach them how to do the job. Suffice to say that I could mention a few other issues with staff and management. However, the food is pretty outstanding and the prices are rock-bottom. So, I'm willing to put up with a bit of mismanagement for now...

The best seafood on the westside. Me and my husband go there twice a week and time and time again perfect! Shrimp lightly battered and the fish is always fresh, the service is friendly! See ya next week.!!

My fiancé and I were starving last night around 9, and our usual haunt was closed, so we decided to come here. We get to the drive thru and almost passed out at the choices!! Not massively expensive and you get A LOT!! Very, very friendly staff. The young lady we spoke to was extremely helpful, gave us a menu and let us know that we could call in our order. Forget Long John Silvers and Captain D's, this is where it's at. My favorite of the meal had to be those cheese grits. Creamy and cheesy. Best I've ever had. We'll definitely be returning. And people please keep in mind that perfect service isn't always gonna happen. Everyone has off days. We've all had them.

Fantastic divey seafood restaurant. My husband and I started going here bc they give extra Delta skymiles if you use your AMEX. (If you have a delta AMEX, you don't have to do anything, just go and use your card) Plus, they have an inhouse reward system where you get sent a $10 gift card for every $100 you spend. Which takes awhile, but they also send you a gift certificate for your birthday and anniversary. Its the little things! That being said, the food is good! It isn't 5 star resturant good, but it is just as good as Crystal River. They have a seafood dip that comes out with crackers that is awesome, and they always have a fried shrimp special that 30 shrimp (I think) for $10. Comes with two sides. I don't eat much meat, but I have seen really cheap chicken wing and chicken tender specials, too. Good value, and good food. And a drive through window.

Food was hot. Service was slow. There's a senior discount which explains the plethora of old people. Food needs more seasoning. It was fresh and that always counts. I'll be using drive thru next time. Oh, and they played Fox News on 3 of the 4 TVs

I love hushpuppies and fried shrimp, but the cheese grits were a little watered down. Not the prettiest looking restaurant but kind workers and a tasty, well-priced meal. I have ordered this meal three times before as well, never tried anything else:)

The food was awesome but the service could have been better. Probably the best Hush puppies I have ever had.

Wanted to try Crabby Ben's for some time now but was not too terribly impressed. Parking lot had two sheriff cars which could mean it's got some mighty good food or perhaps it was indicative of the west side neighborhood. Seafood is what they got mostly and I ordered a lunch of fried fish, scallops and Oysters. The fish fillet was quite small and scallops/oysters tasted fresh and not greasy. Came along with crinkle cut fries, hush puppies and excellent green beans with onions. Sweet tea and tartar/cocktail sauce on the side made for a good lunch with tip about $15. Very friendly and nice waitress too but with the quality/quantity if the food, I don't think I will return.

We tried Crabby Ben's seafood about a year or so ago and it was very good. We decided to get takeout from here tonight because we wanted seafood. We ordered two jumbo shrimp dinners & an onion petal as the appetizer. The first thing I noticed was the hush puppies were burnt to a crisp. Out of 3 hush puppies, only 1 was edible. We ordered the regular and shrimp dinners and while the shrimp were fresh, they were greasy. The onion petal was a big portion but it was greasy. We weren't impressed and won't be back.If they changed something, they need to change it back.

We just got takeout from here. The food was quick and fresh. We got a couple orders of fried shrimp, an order of oysters, and a couple of extra orders of hush puppies. The shrimp were very good, the fries were what you would expect, but you will definitely want more hush puppies. These are the best I've ever had.

Every time I have eaten here, the food is fresh and hot. In my opinion, Crabby Ben's has been better and more consistent than other more well known seafood restaurants in the Jacksonville area. I live in Mandarin and go out of my way (and pass by those other restaurants) to eat at Crabby Ben's.
