A great little place run by a fisherman. A locals' kinda place serving breakfast all day, yet have a great lunch menu as well. If going before lunch, you may want to set your clock to be there before 11am -- the lunch buch is a crowded lot. If you fish a lot from the Islamorada region, you may find your photo on the wall.

My wife and I hired Mangrove Mike's to cater our wedding weekend after visiting with several other Keys caterers that did not seem as friendly, flexible, and helpful as Mangrove Mike's. We hired them for three separate events for 120 people over the course of our wedding weekend. Mike sent Summer to not only help out with the catering, but pretty much every aspect of the wedding. They arranged all of the tent, tables, etc. rentals for the outdoor wedding and took care of all of the logistics saving us a ton of time and headaches. Summer was amazing and helped us pull together the event seamlessly even solving last minute logistical problems that had nothing to do with them or their services. All of the staff were super friendly and helpful and were really a part of the wedding. Did I mention how awesome the food was! All of the fish and seafood was amazing (including a great raw bar), key lime pie outstanding, and he even had a secret recipe for some knockout rum punch that everyone loved at the cocktail hour. We could not have done it without Mike and Summer and strongly recommend you check them out for your wedding or event... or just for a great breakfast or lunch. Thanks Mike! Thanks Summer!

Great breakfast/brunch spot. Service was excellent. My hungover friends especially enjoyed Mangrove Mike's specialty hangover cure: sausage gravy over home fries. I left full and happy.

Stopped in here one morning instead of eating at the resort. We both had the basic breakfast plate that included eggs, toast, bacon and hash browns. No complaints overall and my husband said he loved the crappy diner coffee. It's become our joke of how he rates out diner coffee.. Overall kind servers and fast service. Next door is an art business that you can enter from the restaurant.

Best breakfast I had while down in the Keys. It looks like a tourist trap from the outside but it's soooooo darn good!! I literally stared at the menu for a good 10 minutes trying to decide. Everything that went by me while I was trying to decide looked incredible. I could've eaten the cinnamon apple topping that went on my waffle as a meal in itself. Soooooo delicious! My husband hardly ever eats a sweet breakfast, but he said the coffee cake french toast was to die for. The food came out quick and was reasonably priced. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in islamorada.

Came across this little gem after snorkeling for the morning at the christ statue . What a find! Fab service, smiley friendly faces and good filling food, will definitely be stopping in on our way back. Hubby enjoyed the "flat iron steak" which he devoured. magoo had the "cinnamon roll french toast" topped with a helping of cinnamon apples.... You can never have too much right??!! I had the " mangrove slam" it had french toast, a huge pancake, two sausages and bacon..... Yum ! Couldnt decide if i wanted sweet or savoury so this covered all bases;-) we also picked up 2 tees and 2 rash vests for snorkeling . The whole thing came to about 90$ BARGAIN loved it !

We had lunch at this place on our annual Keys vacation. It is more a local place than a touristy place. They had a good selection of breakfast and lunch items. There are not a lot of tables and the place was busy, so our group of 7 had to split up. Not a big deal. Our waitress was great. Food was good. I am giving it a 4 instead of 5 because the bread on my sandwich was a little stale, and also they did not have anything on the menu that did not include heavy sauces or fried foods. One person in our group was looking for something healthier and was not able to find something that she wanted.

Beachy Diner! Brunch meets beach. Eggs, pancakes, coffee, with fish on the walls. These people know how to cook breakfast, and the place has a great atmosphere. I tried the Mangrove Oscar today. Two eggs, spinach, crab meat, on toasted English muffins... Great. I've had the pancakes, and once a large omelet, all good. The atmosphere is old diner. If you are passing by or staying here and need food, stop. It's a place you should try.

Definitely a favorite local spot after being seated it was obvious they don't depend wholly on the traffic going to or coming back from the Lower Keys. The owners seemed to know everyone by name this also trickled down to the servers. Although I love the local flavor it can be a little frustrating for those of us that are just looking for a good breakfast spot. Our server was a very young woman who just couldn't help but engage her friends on the antics of last night or last week. Our extended waits between ordering our drinks, getting our drinks and placing our breakfast order was way to long as busy as the place was I am sure the owners would like the tables turned a little quicker. - Ham and Cheese Omelet - This was really good although it was cooked on a flat top which tends to thin out the egg and forced the cook to fold it multiple times verses fluffy and light it wasn't a bad choice but an omelet pan would do wonders for this place. - Ham Slice - This was a nice slice of quality ham grilled perfectly, very tender and flavorful. - Scrambled Eggs - Also cooked on a flat top a little dried out for my taste I think fried or poached eggs to order would be a better choice. - Home Fries and Hash Browns - We had an order of both they were both just okay the home fries were small red potatoes grilled tender no crunch no onions or peppers. The hash browns were marked on both sides but not crispy as ordered if you like more potato verse crispy you will enjoy these. - Coffee - The coffee is really good I wish they would of had fresh half and half in small chilled pitchers verse the shelf stable food service cups that sit in a bowl on the table just think this would add a lot of value to this place. To summarize, this is a nice little diner with a lot of hometown feel. I would like to have had more coffee and not had to wait on my check so that's my issue. I actually walked up to the counter to pay without my check because I didn't want to interrupt our server's conversation.

It is what you would definitely would enjoy from a classic diner, it was very traditional, with the food and also full of locals... You can tell... Which I loved :) If I see "corned beef hash" on a menu I will have that... So that's what I did... And it was just average... I think I would've loved it better if it was a little different but then again your in the keys... It will be traditional :) and I also love that... But I'm not really sure I would go back and have the same... PS: besides my mug had lipstick before it touched my lips :O so?!?! I might not go back after all :-/

Server is irritated and annoyed, rushed to order and eat, gift shop is really over priced, when we got our food we were above disappointed, like the food was thrown on the plate, burnt, flavorless.

If you come to the keys, Mangrove Mikes cafe is a must!! Amazing food and superb service. Tater tot tower is out of this world. French toasts are to die for. We had the cinnamon roll French toast and wild blueberry cake French toasts. Words can't explain how good they are. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The owner is just a great person and is walking around on top of everything. You want something different? He'll make it happen. Just a very nice friendly atmosphere. Felt like home.

Unfortunately, my phone died shortly after my visit to Mangrove Mike's, so my photos are gone :( Mangrove Mike's is easy to miss if you're driving by and not looking for it, but what is hidden inside the small, subtle exterior is a plethora of delicious food and kind people. From the moment you step in, you can see the family atmosphere where the locals come in with their family after a youth football game, order some breakfast, and get their Saturday off to a great start. It was definitely refreshing to see and set the mood for Mike's just right. I ordered the typical coffee, which was good, and as my meal I ordered *overly long dramatic pause*: The Mangrove Oscar. The Mangrove Oscar is a twist on the famous Eggs Oscar with Spinach, thick cut Virginia Ham and Poached Eggs, covered in Bearnaise. Now, I am a big fan of Eggs Benedict (and Oscar), ordering them at least once at every breakfast place I frequent, and I must say this is one of the best I have had to date. Let's explore why, in bullet point format for fun: - Perfectly poached eggs - Huge slab of delicious ham - Blue crab - Seriously, a LOT of blue crab - Huge portion - Great price - Great hash browns - Tater Tots.. ok, let me elaborate on something, I usually dislike tater tots. People either make them overly greasy so it's like eating an oil sponge, or they are tasteless. When my girlfriend asked if I wanted to try hers, I was hesitant but I went for it and I was shocked! Tasty, no visible grease or oil, no sponginess - just crispy, flavorful, fried potato heaven! A++ We also ordered a half stack side of chocolate chip pancakes, and they were quite good! The half stack was already large, I can't imagine ordering a full stack of pancakes or french toast (though, I really really want to). My only regret about Mangrove Mike's is that I could ingest no further food. Stop by if you are near Islamorada for a great breakfast! And make sure to swing by the art gallery next door, their work is wonderful!

Went there for breakfast, fantastic! Had the corned beef hash and eggs, some of the best I have had!

Great service... Fantastic breakfast... What a great way to start the day! The French toast was to die for! A really cool little art gallery is attached as well

This is more of a diner. Long wait time. The home fries were good pancakes were okay. Blueberry bread french toast was good but a bit greasy. Service was okay.

I had the Lobster Fritatta and it was perfectly cooked. It was crispy on the edges just the way I like my eggs. I enjoyed it.

Solid spot for breakfast. We sat at the counter to avoid a 1/2 hour wait for a table on a very busy Sunday morning. interesting mix of locals and vacationers. Its a well run establishment...but I didn't get the "keys vibe" some have spoken about. Owner(?) was even helping clearing tables...a real team effort. our waitress was busy and blah. Food is plentiful and quite good. wife had the apple walnut French toast which she enjoyed....I had a sausage and cheese omelet...loaded and delicious. I ordered an orange juice...got a large(not freshly squeezed) for $3.79. tourist special?? Wife had to ask for more coffee. I sensed the locals got the smiles..outsiders get hustled out quickly.

  • Mal W.

Delicious, reasonably priced, and MASSIVE portions! This was probably the best breakfast we had on our last trip to the keys- even topping our morning at Blue Heaven in Key West. Aside from the great food, the service is great, AND the back deck is dog-friendly. While I'm a big breakfast person, I ate here with someone who generally hates breakfast food. They were skeptical...but even they gave it two thumbs up!

  • Bob F.

This is a funky little diner that has very good breakfasts. It appears to be patronized a lot by the locals, which is a good sign in the Keys. I really enjoyed the Crab Oscar (which is like a Benedict but with spinach and crab.) Plenty of good fresh crab in this dish. They offer a several unique items, along with the standard breakfast fare. Service was great - couldn't drink an inch of coffee without it being topped off. Attached to a shop with local art if you are looking for some of that.

At first glance, Mangrove Mike's Café may seem like your typical "run of the mill" diner, but in fact, has some of the best breakfast items I have tasted in a while. For my first visit here, I got the "kitchen sink" omelette, together with their French fries. The omelette was filled with peppers, mushrooms, and meat. It was very hearty. I also topped it with hot sauce, and it was quite a treat for my palette. For a side, I tried their French fries, and it was crispy to my liking. I would definitely treat myself to breakfast here again. Asides from great food, the servers here are also friendly. This place definitely embodies the laid back feeling you get from visiting the Keys. A must visit place for those who want good breakfast.

    (5)
  • Monique S.

The restaurant had a laid back island feel. I ordered the grilled cheese with bacon and home fries. The grilled cheese was thin and the cheese tasted cheap. There was one slice of undercooked bacon and the home fries were greasy and doused with paprika. Overall, the food was pretty gross. I would not recommend this place at all.

This place is awesome. I usually come for breakfast. Had lunch today. It was amazing!!!

  • Michelle G.

I was excited to sit down and see the menu. It had a lot of Gluten Free items to choose from and at the same time my husband could enjoy biscuits & gravy!. Food was great and affordable!

A perfect home style breakfast. The home fries are amazing and the bacon is fresh. The toast is warm and buttery. The prices are super reasonable as well.

We stopped here for breakfast on the way down to key west. The food was good and the service was friendly. Nothing special but I would definitely eat here again.

They should change there name to "Cheers" Cuz I feel like family every time I go in for breakfast! The wait staff is very good and the food comes out fast. The way you tell is a eatery is good in Islamorada is by how many fishing Captains eat there. Well went the weather is bad we all go to Mangrove mikes!!

Wow best breakfast I had this Year. Try the Banana Chocolate Chip French Toast with Berries, you might need to ask waitress. Out of this world. Very friendly staff.

The best spot to go for breakfast in Islamadora. Very packed but food comes out fast. Staff is very attentive and friendly. Omelets are very filling and flavorful.

  • Krissey P.

The only place with Edible food in the middle keys! Went there for breakfast twice on our 4 day trip. Wish you had been open for dinner because we would have been there for that meal too! Excellent pancakes and everyone is so friendly. Feels like a Jersey diner.

    (5)
  • Marisa L.

A wonderful local spot. Fresh, delicious diner. Servers know their regulars by name. Owners visit every table. Local state park rangers were eating there. French Toast made with slices of cake! I had the pumpkin chocolate chip french toast. So good! Friendly and fast service. Great place!

  • Bob D.

I was with friends last weekend going to key west and we needed to just get something for breakfast before our trip down. WELL.....We were told to go to Mangrove Mike's. Disgusting! Besides pancakes being undercooked, we made a simple request for warm syrup. It was like we asked for the winning lottery numbers. Honestly they poured syrup into a "coffee pot" still trying to figure that out....but it was cold. Anyways...dont waste your time! Go to lorelei 1000 times better. Also, i hope the owners read this..get an exterminator the cockraoch that crawled over my leg didnt help the ambience

  • Michael B.

This is a place where locals meet to meet with other locals. They talk fishing, politics and other light subjects. The owner is a constant presence who is always welcoming. Locals even get a discount here! And they know if you're a local. Omelettes are great and some swear by the pancakes. I preferred the kitchen sink burrito, which is HUGE and EVERYTHING! Although not on the water, this is the place to go for affordable, real local fare in the Keys.

    (4)
  • Altena L.

The service is quick and the art gallery attached is very nice! They have a good variety of food for breakfast. I believe I had eggs and bacon which were okay and my boyfriend had an omelet. We sat at the breakfast bar which has a lot of space. Our waitress was okay, sometimes she seemed mad and other times was nice. We originally came here for the key lime pie but found out you would have to buy the whole pie, however the waitress told us we could try the pie at midway cafe and that was out of this world! The restaurant is large and no one waits long at all!

    (3)
  • Marissa M.

I truly don't get the other reviews. Ordered coffee, it was hot water at best. I don't know if they haven't cleaned the machine or if it's the type of coffee they use... Either way avoid it. I got dots sunshine platter... Nothing special. One pancake, egg, and bacon... Basic diner food. Also ordered the oatmeal which resembled prison slop. Place was cute. They didn't open up the outdoor area which was disappointing and the inside was kind of dark. I see a lot of five star reviews on here but like I said before I honestly don't get it.

    (2)
  • Antonio A.

Breakfast was fabulous. The prices are great and the service was excellent. They have the best pancakes anywhere in south Florida. They even have a seafood breakfast entree. When we stay in the keys that's our breakfast destination.

    (5)
  • R Q.

Good hash browns, fresh blue crab and spinach on the Blue Crab Oscar eggs but the muffin was a tad soggy. Coffee ok not great. It's a locals spot where they all know each other and has a bustling lively aura to it. More like a diner than greasy spoon. All in all okay, good for what it is, which is a quick breakfast spot....

    (3)
  • Alana O.

Best breakfast I've ever had. There is a huge variety of choices to choose from and I left wanting to come back just so I could try everything. The prices are reasonable and the portions are big. I ordered the gourmet french toast that was free of transfat and made with 100% whole wheat flour and a few more things. I cant find another restaurant who had tasty healthy french toast. I can't wait to go back and try another flavor of the french toast!

Everyone thinks of Mangrove Mike's as as breakfast/lunch place but a little hidden gem of a secret is they do catering! But not just any old catering, Mike, Michelle and their team are amazing and so is the food. They put together a package that fits you and your vision. Most of our guests were from our of the area and we wanted to give a little South Florida/Keys flavor so we went with the whole roasted pig mojo chicken black beans and rice corn salad and so much more! The food was out of this world melt in your mouth delicious not to mention Mike and his staff really helped me out in a bind and stepped up when another vendor fell short on me getting me tables chairs linens, standing weather watch with us and ultimately helping us make the decision to get a tent which I am completely grateful! xoxo Mike Michelle and the rest of Mangrove Mikes you guys rocked our wedding!

  • Jamie T.

Love this place! The atmosphere was great and so was the food! Just an all around great spot for breakfast! Had to wait 15min for a table which was great because we got to explore the art shop next door! Would definitely come back!

    (5)
  • Louis A.

Best breakfast I've had in a while and I like a good breakfast. I forgot what they called it, but I had a seafood Benedict, made with shrimp, spinach, poached eggs, & hollandaise sauce. Home fries that came with it were also excellent. They also offer a choice of seafood with that dish, could have lump crab meat or grilled fish. Decor is ultra keys cute, tropical. Coffee & service both excellent.

    (5)
  • Tammy B.

Great breakfast and very friendly service!! Jessica was our server and she couldn't have been any nicer, asked where we were from and chatted with us. Cinnamon French Toast is a must try on the menu!!

We have had breakfast and lunch here and all of them have been served quickly, large portions, and delicious food. The place is not very clean and the waitresses are not very happy but the food is very good. The famous tater tot dishes are great.

great and I mean GREAT breakfast spot in the keys!!! i mustve driven past in a hundred times and never noticed it. ive been missing out!! everything was delicious but the stand out dish was the breakfast chili bowl. im not usually a fan of chili in my breakfast but wow. I had about half of my friends dish bc it was just way too good! the service was friendly and fast. I will definitely be back on my next trip to the keys! ps - they are connected to a really cool art gallery that sells awesome frames made out of real lobster traps.

    (5)
  • Carolina L.

Food is great! Lobster bisque is amazing!! BUT Service was slow. Our waitress had to wait till we asked her for a refill on drinks, she forgot our extra plate we asked for when my hubby and I ordered to share a plate and had a little bit of attitude when I asked her how big the bowl was... Lobster bowl is the size of a cup. Just to keep in mind. But overall, food was great!

Great service, good food, nice laid back atmosphere. We ordered the cinnamon bun, the kitchen sink omelet and western omelet with egg beaters. Food was good and Cinnabon bun was deeelish!!! Lots of icing. The service was very friendly and the gift shop connected to the restaurant has great artwork. The spot is easy to miss but slow down and stop.. you will be glad you did.

One of the best breakfasts ever! It was recommended by our hosts at the very laid back relaxing hotel La Jolla. It was everything a breakfast should be from the eggs Benedict to the bacon egg and cheese totter tot stack to the seasonal pumpkin french toast and all things breakfast you can think of. And if you have a friend named Mike, buy him a t-shirt!

  • Jennifer O.

A good homey breakfast. Service was great. Meals came out quickly. We were shocked by the size & thickness of the pancakes. It was a very filling meal - which left us happy and ready for the day. Thank you!

Never leave the Keys without stopping at least once. One of my haunts for over 20 years. The food is fresh and delicious. Very friendly service. You can't miss

  • Chad W.

Mikes is definitely a locals type of place...though kitschy, it doesn't have that "tourist" feel to it. They have recently updated their menu, which is a definite upgrade. Mikes is the place to go for breakfast. A few of the lunch items are good, but there are some better quality options in the area. I think of this place as a good "greasy spoon" for a good weekend breakfast/brunch. Their omelettes are huge, and decent, but not award winning. The best thing on their menu are likely the tots...because hell, who doesn't love tots?? Service is quick. You can be in and out of here in 30 minutes.

    (3)
  • Abby L.

Great place for breakfast before an early morning fishing charter. Really great omlettes and wraps. DEFINITELY try the pancakes. Very soft and fluffy.

  • Jen S.

We go to the Keys often enough to know some of the good local places while still having new places to explore. I cannot believe I had never been to Mangrove Mike's! Do yourself a favor and have breakfast there... The Kitchen Sink and Chili Tator tots were delicious! I would go back just to have those two menu selections... My only complaint was that the kitchen sink ones were not hot enough. But the servers were very attentive too and the prices can't be beat. On the way out, we stopped in the little shop with Keys/Island inspired gifts. Very cute things... the art is made on site by the people who work there. I thought that was prety cool! Overall, a great choice... I will definitely be going back when I'm in Key Largo again.

One of the best in the Fla. Keys. This place has a crazy extensive menu. It is a must go to when you visit the upper keys. They even have gluten free bread for those who must avoid wheat. Big ham steaks with breakfast. LOVE IT!!!

    (5)
  • Kiarra S.

Perfect for viewing the sunset. Live music. Drinks are cheap. Food is OK. We all had the mahi fish tacos which were pretty skimpy. Definitely add in avocado if you get them.

I do not recommend. At best the food the restaurant atmosphere and staff is less than average. You can do better

Went for breakfast today. Apparently, the good at a wedding the last night was catered by Mangrove Mike...holy cow it was awesome!!! Stopped in this morning and had corned beef and hash. Mike remembered me from the wedding and was very nice. Service was excellent, and the food was even better.

  • Lauren P.

We stopped at this place after riding our bikes for about thirty miles. The hostess was not very pleasant, but our server was somewhat better. However, the reason I'm giving this place a 5 is for the food. I had corn beef hash and breakfast sweet potatoes and my hubby had cinnamon roll french toast and a homemade croissant. The food was amazing! The flavor they packed into the french toast was outstanding and the corn beef hash was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. The price isn't too high for the quality of food we were served. The diner itself is made for locals and tourists alike. Everyone sitting around the main area was clearly a local, but the decor was made for tourists. It's funky and sea-oriented and a very happy environment to have breakfast in. They have this portion of the menu dedicated entire to tater tots, both for breakfast and lunch and I can't wait to go back to try them out!

    (5)
  • Jennifer H.

I got the French toast, and my husband got the tater tots covered in cheese and egg (yes, it looked very man-vs-food, but he said it was great). Great selections on the menu and great service!

Mangrove Mike and his staff recently catered our "Welcome Party" and wedding reception at the Coconut Palm Inn on January 17th-18th...the food and service were fantastic! We had 110 guests and we are still receiving complements on the food for both nights. We had a pig roast on Friday and a surf and turf buffet the night of the wedding reception. My fiancé and I actually took the time to sit down and enjoy our entire plate of food...that's how outstanding it was! Mike was professional and timely throughout our entire contact with him before the wedding. We couldn't be happier with our choice. I highly recommend Mangrove Mike, his wedding coordinator Michelle, and his courteous staff. We are forever thankful!! True story: The weather report a week before our wedding predicted chilly temperatures from 40-50 degrees on Friday and Saturday nights. Mike called us early in the week before our wedding and recommended that we get a tent in order to keep our guests comfortable and the food warm. We didn't want a tent...but ended up getting one anyway...per his suggestion. I am SO GLAD we followed his advice. The food was hot, our guests stayed warm, and the party went all night. Thanks to Mike, for going above and beyond to make our wedding a memorable event!

WOW! I love great service and when the food is better than that, I can't help but gush! Started with a cup of chili and immediately wished we had gotten a bowl. Best chili I have EVER had. I saved some and put it on my fries (brilliant idea on my part). I had the California chicken wrap (chicken, Swiss, bacon, and avacado) and it was great! This place literally hit the spot perfectly. I'm just glad I live in Miami and can come back soon!

Fast, tasty, good prices, friendly service. Good menu selection. Very happy we found this place just before heading out one fishing charter. And some cute girls working here too.

Best breakfast place in Islamorada. Great service, great food. Doesn't look like much from the outside but don't let that stop you from enjoying the diner style, family feel of this cafe.

Every time we stop here it's always great. I recommend the banana bread French toast. Service is always great. The shop next door is awesome. Got to meet the artist that painted a picture we own and that was really awesome. Always stop here when in islamorada. Hasn't changed a bit. Keep up the great food and service.

This is a small town spot. The gallery next door is a joke. Don't waste your time or money. The service was fast. The food was good. A variety of fresh fruit for the pancakes and oatmeal. Limited menu. I am not used to the small town vibe. There aren't a lot of options in the area that's why there could be a bit of a wait. A bit dirty for my taste. With the looks of the area, I assume mainly townies eat there.

Far & away the best breakfast in Islamorada. We had the cinnamon roll French toast & everything omelette.

Mangrove Mike's is the best breakfast place in Islamorada! Beach themed hand painted walls adorn this little cafe, tv's play fishing shows 24-7, the staff is friendly, the food is great. I highly recommend the tator tots! Delicious and the best hangover food ever. Island paradise all the way!

My boyfriend and I visited this morning for breakfast. Dave greeted us with a smile and told us to sit anywhere we'd like. The atmosphere was casual and unique. Great diner food. Lots of options. Food was fresh and came in good sized portions. Dave was great, he was so friendly and really made us feel at home. The restaurant is connected to an art gallery filled with some really nice paintings. We enjoyed spending our morning here. We will definitely be back soon!

Been going to the keys for 15 years and mangrove mikes is a must stop shop on our way out it's now tradition. We always stop and eat here. The food is incredible and if you get the PLEASURE of dining when mike is actually there he will make you feel like a celebrity. You cannot order anything bad there, make sure to ask if mike is there and get he loaded tots. You're welcome. Fish on!!!

Tons of food for a great price. We stopped here for brunch on the way down to the keys. It has a 'local' feel and the waitresses know a lot of the people who came in (I like that). Plus, they have tater tots which is always a winning touch in my book. I had the popeye omlet (spinach, onions, cheese and mushrooms). It came with tator tots and toast, it was definetly enough for 2 people. The coffee was great and our waitress was very attenitive. Only downside I noticed was no mimosa's on the menu. There is a massive store next door which is nice to walk through while you are waiting for after your meal.

Great choices of food. I had the Mexican style wrap. The chili was fantastic! Great friendly service, too. Be sure to check out the local art next door.

Stopped in for breakfast and was not disappointed! The tater tot breakfast with corned beef hash was amazing! The tots were cooked perfectly and the hash was some of the best I've ever had! Mike's never disappoints!

We went here for arguably the most important meal of the year: the New Year's Day hangover breakfast. We were not let down. Standard diner fare with friendly service and an unmistakable Keys vibe. They have a "tater tots" section on the menu that features a few dishes that are served on top of smothered tots. I had scrambled eggs with sausage gravy on top of tots -- just what I needed after NYE. The place is decorated with really cool old fishing photos and artwork -- a nice touch. Highly recommended for a local breakfast spot in Islamorada.

There is a reason this is a true Keys local favorite and it is the food and hospitality of the owner, Mangrove Mike, who personally greeted us upon arrival. It is very good food as well and always a 'must stop' if you want to feel part of 'conch life'.

  • Steve C.

Great service and little hottie waitresses, and a great and cool joint in the Florida Keys, but my biggest complaint with my most recent visit was the short order cook doesn't know what medium means when it relates to cooking a splendid breakfast steak. Fail. I will go back because this is the first time the joint let me down.

Very solid breakfast place with a very nice local flavor. Waitress (can't remember her name, young girl who has worked there for 8 years) was sweet, friendly and great. Food was good and portions good. Definitely recommended.

Fantastic breakfast......short wait, but a nice amount of food for the money! Stephanie was our waitress at the counter......she was awesome!! A quick ride over from the Cheeca Lodge where we prob would have paid twice as much for the same breakfast:). We will be back!!

Totally unpretentious, could almost be called "hole-in-the-wall", next to a gift shop and motel. But what a great breakfast!!! The place was packed when we arrived, but service was prompt, friendly and attentive. While we were waiting we looked at some of the memorabilia on the walls - it has a beachy, surf-shop meets diner appeal. I ordered a full stack of pancakes and the serving was so big that for the first time EVER, I couldn't finish. We didn't eat anything else until dinner because of the size of the breakfast portions! Very inexpensive. Will definitely stop there again the next time we are in the Keys.

We discovered this place about 5 days into our 9 day trip to Tavernier. We ended up going there twice for breakfast. The first time we went I got the egg benedict w/blue crab. It was wonderful. My husband got the Everything But the Sink tots. When he was adding pepper & hot sauce he pulled out what looked like a piece of plastic that was a bit larger than a wrapper from a piece of cheese. We showed our waitress who immediately took the dish back to the kitchen. The owner/manager (I'm not sure which he was) came out and showed us that it was a piece of butcher paper that they cook the veggies on in the oven. He apologized profusely and said that should never have happened. They brought out a fresh meal (my husband had requested the 2nd time that they make it without cheese so we knew it wasn't the same plate) and took it off our bill. We had no problem with the way they handled the incident. We went back 2 days later and my husband got the exact same dish. I ordered the tots with sausage gravy. The tots dishes come with 2 eggs on top....yum! The gravy wasn't quite as spicy as I like but we live in TX and probably eat our food a bit spicier in general. The restaurant itself is a bit nondescript from the outside but the inside is home to numerous photos of people with fish they've caught. It is connected to the gallery next door and also sells a small selection of tee-shirts and local hot sauces (these are also on the tables for folks to try). Pay attention because it's easy to drive past. Also, the prices are very reasonable and the portions are large. They have some delicious-sounding french toast...we're hoping to go back to FL next year so hopefully I'll have a chance to try it!

Great Breakfast Place. Great friendly service. Got the Mangrove Mike's Eggs Benedict with spinach, crab etc. The eggs were cooked well but the muffin was not toasted enough. The crab was not fresh though. The vegetarian omelet was good as well. Portions are decent and prices are average. The cinnamon roll was delicious flaky and sweet just wish it was cream cheese frosting.

Great Food and Fast Service, Waitress Jen was great. Wait was short for the amount of people in the cafe for a party of 6. prices were reasonable for what you get, omelette was huge and tasty. I really enjoyed it.

First place we tried while driving down to Key West. Traditional Cuban sandwich was delicious. Pork melted in your mouth. The clam strip Po' boy was also delicious. The sauce was perfect. Our waitress ( I think her name was Pam) was very friendly and service was quick. Excellent prices.

Based on it's rating, we decided to try this local spot for breakfast. Surely an example of a place packed with people who don't know good food! Our experience started with Bad coffee in well worn cups. Homefries tasted like the burnt grill. Had to order a side of hashbrowns that were only slightly better. My omelette was a joke. Almost cellophane-thin like egg wrapped around an obscene amount of cheap chunk ham and peppers and onions that seemed to have been cooked in a microwave before being added next to a solid lump of velveeta cheese (menu says cheddar??) that sat at one end of the "omlette". Can't speak for the pastries or pancakes. I can't imagine them being wonderful. We were with a party of six people. Nobody enjoyed their meal. Skip this one.

This is a little piece of that "old Florida" I remember growing up. DH got "Craig's hangover helper" and I got the buffalo shrimp wrap & onion rings - both were amazing! It was also very fast and super cheap (for the Keys). it is one of those morning and midday places but they serve breakfast all day. I would definitely stop back if I can through again!

Stayed at the motel and were told it was very good. It was and filled with local flavor, nothing remotely chain like here. Mike was walking around talking to every customer making sure it was ok. Service was quick and food was great for breakfast. Next time for lunch.

This place really is a cute dive that you pass up as you're driving to the Keys. My friend recently moved to Marathon and has always stopped by here to grab their biscuits and gravy. So naturally, we stop here on our way down. This place really should be featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives because it has those qualities that they have on the show. All of the fishing decorations, pictures of the staff's families and friends and of course their little gift shop up at the front. All three of us ordered the biscuits and gravy and it was pretty delicious! The biscuits were buttery and fluffy and the gravy was not salty (like some places). I also got the corned beef hash to go along with my plate and it was nice and crispy, just the way I like it! The woman at the register was just lovely as well as our waitress. People there were friendly and they mostly recognized my friend (shows how often he goes there). Note: Small parking lot that they share with other businesses in their little strip area and it's along the highway. So be prepared when exiting the parking lot, you may get caught up if there is traffic.

When I think about the Florida Keys, Mangrove Mikes fits the mental picture that encompasses what the keys is all about. Not only do they have an amazing breakfast menu but the staff makes you feel like you are eating comfortably in your own kitchen. There are so many great options for breakfast that you may have a difficult time deciding what you want to eat. The eggs Benedict is amazing but the ham is thicker than usual so keep that in mind. The biscuits and gravy are covered in a delicious sauce which means you have to search for that yummy biscuit under all of that saucy goodness. The coffee is served in different mugs (which also gives it that homey touch) and the unlimited refills surely keep you awake for the remainder of the day. The food comes out quick! It is served hot so it never appears to have been left under any heat lamps and everything I tasted from my friends plates was equally delicious. I always try to stop for a quick and delicious breakfast food coma on my way in or out of the keys.

Nice little local joint that is also frequented by tourists. This and Bob's Bunz are my two favorite places for breakfast in Islamorada. Not fancy by any means, but the local fishing/sea ambiance makes up for any shortcomings. My entire party loved it. We will be back again. Breakfast is made up of old standbys like pancakes and eggs, wraps, omelets, and benedicts. Now connected to a cool little art gallery loaded with local work, primarily made from old lobster traps.

Could there possibly be a better breakfast restaurant in the Keys? Huge portions, tasty special dishes and friendly service. Also, for those who are serious breakfast people, the coffee is strong and delicious! I saw specials for $4.25 and the most expensive specials like eggs Benedict were only $9.95. I had the country scramble with ham eggs and home fries. Everything was cooked to perfection! The gravy was thick and nicely flavored and the combo was so big and filling, I couldn't even touch the toast that came with the meal. The wonderful Naomi also had the breakfast quesadilla with ham and cheese. It was also a giant portion, with a yummy tortilla outside. One of our friends had the ham and cheese omelette with potatoes in it and loved it. You will not leave this restaurant hungry. I guess that's why locals "Like Mike"!

We had our first breakfast in the Keys at this place-only because Midway Cafe was closed. If you are looking for a gut-busting greasy-spoon type joint-this is it. Had the cinnamon bun French toast and tots with eggs, bacon, and cheddar. Coffee was pretty much the muck you would expect from any place like this-they literally keep your cup brimming, so even if you take one sip, they are right there to top you off. Server was nice, but slapped our check down on our table without even asking if we wanted anything else. A little presumptuous? I got a $25 jar of some fantastic key lime scrub at checkout-probably the most remarkable thing. Try Midway Cafe down the road...

Asked the girl at the front desk of where we were staying at and without hesitation she said Mangroove Mikes. Quaint little place with a large home feel to it. It's easy to see that the locals love it and so are those lucky enough to find out about it. Honestly the best pancakes I have ever had. Large portions, friendly staff, nice on the wallet. If you're in the area it's a must.

A trip to Islamorada for me is not complete without a stop to Mangrove Mike's Cafe. Healthy portions and great service with a smile. Anything I have tried has been delicious. I recommend this place to everyone if you want a true deep of the Keys. Always enjoy the pictures on the walls the mural and the old fishing videos on the tv screen.

My wive loves the biscuts. My son loves the chocolate chip pancakes. They need to work on the breakfast potatoes. Neither is a good choice. Frozen patties vs. large tasteless boiled potatoes.

Great food & service and the prices are very reasonable for what you get. They are only open for breakfast and lunch (6am - 2pm). If you get there and they're lined up out the door don't panic, the wait list goes quickly due to the amount of seating they have. Mike, the owner is always there making sure things are right and always comes around and talks to customers to be sure they're happy with their food. The country scramble is one of my favorites as well as their biscuits and gravy and one more good one is the eggs benedict. There is nothing bad at this place. The burritos and wraps at lunch are phenominal and HUGE!!! We eat there all the time when visiting. If I could Mangrove Mike's 10 stars I would.

All-Day breakfast! OK, this place has some of the friendliest staff of any restaurant we went to during our stay. We had lunch one day and breakfast the second. There was an issue and they dropped 1/2 our tab and then when it took longer, they dropped the whole thing. We went back again (to give our tip) and had a perfect experience. Good food, great people.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this lovely throw back of a place. The breakfast here is very reasonable and they make good home fries and hash browns. The service is the best in the keys. The owner is regularly in there in the day time. It truly is owned and managed exquisitely. Never rude or slow servers. Just good ole fashion yumminess. To bad they close at two ; (

We had a brunch here at the cafe for 30 people and Mike's was great- very friendly service, great cinnamon bun french toast, fresh fruit and veggies (good omelet station) and crab oscar benedict. It's a casual diner style place, but definitely worth visiting for reasonable price. The service is soo much friendlier than Bob's Bunz. I would highly recommend him for catering an event too.

Great Breakfasts!!!! I always try to hit this spot when in the Keys. Great startup food if your, hungover, out all night fishing, or just getting ready for a big day of on the water fun!!! I think I would give this place more stars but I only go for Breakfast!

  • Jan T.

I seriously don't understand the good reviews of this place. The pancakes were so heavy and not light and fluffy at all. Yea they were big and cheap but really? The scrambled eggs were greasy with no real flavor. My guy ordered his eggs medium and they were super runny. The bacon was ordered extra crispy but they came out initially not even crisped. Then she took it back and had them burned. The orange juice just was not even on Tropicana level. It was very watered down and just not good. I always take left over's and I did not even think twice about leaving my uneaten breakfast right there. I had hopes for this place but they sadly did not deliver. There has to be better places around so I would recommend you skip Mikes and find an IHOP. Yep it's that bad.

  • Lisa R.

Breakfast was good, cheap, fast and served by some of the nicest people we have encountered on our trip to the Keys. The coffee was good, not great. The view is not the best around, but it seems that service, cheapness and view cannot be easily found in the northern keys. As it goes, we can get our view free from Anne's Beach... as long as we fill up here before heading out.

  • Gen M.

Not that impressed. Had the crab eggs benedict with potatoes. The crab tasted a little off, kind of fishy and the bread underneath was really soggy from the spinach, they should really leave the spinach off so the breads not water logged. The potatoes were not that great. My husband had pancakes and potatoes. He said it tasted like a plain old pancake and he wasn't fond of the potatoes either. The waitress was nice. Again the reviews are a bit overzealous with the praise because it's not as expensive as most restaurants in the keys and you get a large amount. Sorry but cheap and big don't equal good. It's subpar.

One of the best breakfast joints around. The biscuit's and gravy are the best I've found south of Carolina.

  • heather D.

I've been here twice for breakfast and both times I left happy. The menu is great, the food is good (very good) and the service is spot on. The servers treat every customer like they've known them forever (they likely have known most customers forever, but they treated us the very same!) I would recommend the cinnamon roll french toast to anyone in the mood to splurge, but my husband ordered an omelette that was huge and great. The place is clean, the prices are great. If you are looking for haute dining, go elsewhere. If you are looking for a reliably good breakfast from a cheerful staff, stop at Mangrove Mike's.

  • Jane M.

From start to finish, my family and I had a great meal at Mangrove Mike's. It's a great place for kids, the decor is vintage chic, but best of all...the food. Amazing omelets, huge portions! The cinnamon roll French toast-delish! Our waitress was so friendly and helpful, and the owner himself couldn't have been more gracious. All in all, we are sure to be back next year. Also, we bought two jars of the "secret of the islands" sugar scrub on our way out-amazing stuff! Thank you Mangrove Mike's !!!
