A casual place... Reasonably priced. Great service. They bring you a small loaf of banana bread which was a treat. We had their shrimp and grits that was absolutely flavorful. It's in between the creamy and tomato sauces that I have seen in other locations. Not too spicy. Lots of shrimp. They don't mix the sauce with the grits so you get to enjoy both favors. Prices were very reasonable for the meal as well as our selection of beer to go with the meal. It's not formal dining, but it's spot on for casual beach food. I will be back.

Good food, reasonable prices, and friendly service. Went with a big group and got to try several different of the shrimp options. All were good but the Key Wet pasta was the star. The shrimp and grits, and the jambalaya both were also something I will definitely go back for. The do have other options such as fish sandwiches, ribs; chicken, and burgers. Portion sizes are quite large a great value for the price. Staff was extremely friendly! Overall very satisfied and will definitely return.

Good inexpensive food. Good drinks, had a piña colada and the strawberry margarita. Homemade key lime pie was pretty good.

We stopped in on our long drive from Key West back to Ft. Lauderdale. It was right off of the highway and after a day on the water, what sounds better than "the shrimp shack?" And it was great! We had a pound of peel and eat shrimp to start and it is served cold, but my kids wanted it steamed. They did it for us no problem. We then had a Ceasar salad, the fish basket, and she crab soup. All made fresh to order. Sauces provided were delicious. Angela our server was awesome- bringing us more banana bread as part of our bread basket. And a bandaid for a hurt knee.

Unfortunately can't tell you how the food is.... Went in and waited ten minutes before we walked out.. never even acknowledged by waitstaff.

After all of the good reviews we decided to give this shack a try. My wife started off with a key lime martini. She said that was really good. The server brought out a banana bread and a few rolls the banana bread was really nice. Then we were asking about a couple of entrees, one of them was the Continental which was made with conch. They take a piece of conch and pan fry it then add lots of stuff on top and finally melt cheese over everything. The server went on and on about how this was a great meal that we both decided to get it. My wife enjoyed her meal while I thought that mine looked like someone threw up on my plate with what seemed to be that a little of a lot of different things were put on top of the conch to hide the flavor. After telling the server that I did not like it she slid off never to be seen until asking about desert and giving us the check. I guess I should have ordered the first thing that I was going to get but hindsight is perfect.

Stopped here based on Yelp reviews and we were very satisfied. The She-Crab Chowder was an excellent cream-based chowder. The fish sandwich with Mahi was very good, served with a nice cup of black beans and rice. The sweet tea was large and very sweet - yea! The atmosphere is a little old but clean and casual. The restroom are very clean and smelled freshly bleached. Thank you!! 4 not 5 stars because it's a bit old but the food is good.

Had the best meal and the best service in the Keys here. Sandy, our server, was an awesome ball buster. She was a blast. The food was just as awesome. We had bacon wrapped shrimp, hush puppies, shrimp jambalaya and a romaine, goat cheese. Craisin, walnut salad with blackened shrimp. All were freaking amazing. We'll definitely be back!

Decided to try Shrimp Shack tonight. Started with she-crab soup. Very good - a little under-seasoned, but nothing a little ground pepper didn't fix. The banana bread was out of this world. The best we have had in the Keys. I ordered the conch continental as my entree. The conch was beaded in panko crumbs, sautéed in key lime butter with tomatoes, scallions and topped with Parmesan cheese. Conch was tender and delicious. My husband had the scallops over mushroom risotto. The scallops were as good as any we have had. My husband described the Risotto as rich and creamy complimenting the scallops. As good as it was, it was a little rich for me to eat as my meal. Best dinner we had in Islamorada this trip. Typical Keys ambiance. Waitstaff was attentive and friendly.

3.5 stars. Being from AR, I had to try the famous shrimp and grits. Fantastic (but lumpy). I really liked the fact that it had bell peppers and onions in it. Hubs got the fried mahi mahi sandwich cooked with coconut flakes along with hush puppies. I didn't get to try the sandwich, but it was definitely a large fillet of fish. The hush puppies were good and you get five of them as a side. We didn't get to try the desserts, but they sure did look good..esp the banana doughnut. Would definitely recommend this place.

Excellent meal. The Key Lime Scallops were superb. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Ambiance was just right. A little pricey but well worth it.

The service is absolutely great. A touch that I found nice is their tea comes in a large mason jar and their portions are huge.

Service was EXCELLENT! Very friendly and laid back atmosphere. The strawberry marg was amazing! One of the best I've had. The Cajun fried shrimp were so yummy. The fried combo if fish, clams and shrimp were very yummy too!

Absolutely fell in love with this place. Our waitress, Connie, convinced us to get the "shrimp & grits". She said it was their signature dish. She was so adamant that her confidence convinced us. It was absolutely awesome. It's a must. We also got the shrimp po'boy... Fried but not greasy, perfectly crisp large shrimp on a really soft homemade club roll along with a loaded baked potato. I wished I had gotten the hush puppies...next time. I ended up using the extra bread to clean up the shrimp & grits bowl. Nothing was wasted. As stuffed as we were, we decided to get the banana doughnuts to go. The bag smelled so amazing curiosity got the best of us... Inside were five round doughnut balls that tasted like banana bread hush puppies with a banns dipping glaze. They didn't make it outside the restaurant. Do NOT forget to get these!!! They are absolute heaven. I hugged Connie on the way out. Really great staff. Cute place. Go!

I had the shrimp and grits and they were the bomb I licked the bowl clean. I washed it down with a 32oz planters punch from the bar which was also delicious. We have a top notch server named Morgan who pointed the rest of my party in the right direction. This place is great and I will be back

Awesome shrimp and grits!! She crab soup was wonderful. Caesar salad was light and nice.

The food was ok. The sea food boil had no flavor and the fish was dry not too fresh Service was slow and sloppy. Tip was included in the check maybe the reason for bad service. Keep looking!!

How nice to be greeted by a friendly waitress! It gets even better with delicious food that comes in good sized portions. Blackened shrimp and mahi were fresh. Shrimp chowder was also delicious. I took food to go but it seemed like everyone finishing their meals were regulars. Highly recommend you give them a try.

We had an absolutely amazing meal here! I highly recommend it. We were seated right away, the tea was delicious. Everything was clean and nice. The food... Was SO good! Shrimp tacos and sweet potato fries were the highlights. We are coming back tomorrow.

Tasted fresh, great service and reasonable price for the Keys. She Crab soup is quite good.

On our way home from a key west trip and stopped here because it was late and we were hungry. It looked like a nice sit down, but all the food was brought out in red baskets with papet- no biggie, we were in the keys. However, no one took our drink order until we were seated for almost 15 minutes, and there wasn't much going on. Also, food was mediocre at best. Lots of fried or overpriced stuff and not as much shrimp in the menu as you'd think.

Delicious meal of shrimp and grits! A lot of food. Could have shared. The bread was so yummy too and the hush puppies.

Man am I glad we randomly stopped here, because it turned out to be the best in town!! All the locals know this place and I highly recommend anyone passing through or vacationing around to stop by. The girls that work here are about the sweetest gals you'll ever meet and I can't RAVE enough about their banana bread which was to die for. I will forever dream about going down there again and. We had the Po Boy Shrimp Sandwich which was sooooo good. Can't say enough good things about this cute little place.

The shrimp quesadillas were so flavorful...the grilled shrimp on Morgan salad was the best. The hogfish snapper was the best I ever had. And the kids loved the Mac and cheese. Excellent service as well. Highly recommend

  • Michael D.

I had a great salad. The Morgan salad with blackened grouper. It hit the spot in several ways and the price was quite reasonable for the Keys. We'll be back for the fish sandwich as well my wife's was more than she could finish

We probably should not have asked the waitress to chime in on what to order, but she raved about the jambalaya-style shrimp so we gave it a shot. Way too much rice, but the worst part is that they use margarine to saute their shrimp, for that "fake-butter" taste. Just plain cooking oil would be less offensive to the palate. We also ordered a salad and the greens were very fresh, and their house-made honey mustard dressing was very good. However, the shredded cheese tasted processed, and it was a bit overpriced. I know there aren't a lot of great dining options in this area, but we were able to find better food than this not too far away.

Ray oysters were huge and delicious. Had the oyster po boy which was good as the oysters were once again huge. The shrimp and grits was fantastic. Overall a good deal for lunch.

Calling this a "dive" will sound a bit harsh...but I loved this little roadside cafe. Each in our group went with a different variation of their namesake, and each preparation was generous and flavorful. Particularly impressed with the blackened shrimp and the well balanced use of exceptional spices to create flavor, rather than seasoning noise. Nothing fancy during this lunch hour visit. Construction crews dropped by, joining a range of loyal local residents and a few--like me-- who just fell off US 1 at the right time. Paper sheets cover the tables...the waitress was warm and capable...this little dive knows what it does, and does it well.

Meh. Overpriced for small, mediocre portions. Nothing special. I had killer fish tacos at the local farmers market Mexican food truck for $3 that were better.

Went there twice on our week long vacay. First time our service was awful but the food was pretty good. Went back and sat in the bar. Service still wasn't good. Got our drinks pretty quick but left hanging to place our order. Was told my drink was happy hour priced but showed up as double on receipt. Ahi tuna appetizer ok-not great not worth $10. Po boy was good, Mac n cheese mediocre. Overall would not go back, would not recommend. Try Lorelei's or ma's fish camp. Much better food and service!

Lamb burger was good if u can get passed the white mystery sauce. Ribs were dry and over sauced. Fish tacos had too many ingredients that included cheese , yikes. Service very poor 2 servers for entire restaurant. Owner was very nice and tried to accommodate

  • Emmeline R.

The baskets are great and big portions. The clam chowder is a must. The catch of the day was a very small portion and very under seasoned (grilled style). Our experience would have been better if the our server didn't make multiple mistakes on our orders. Avoid the key lime pie, better spots on the island for the desert.

Awesome!! Great food, great service and great key lime pie!! I would definitely recommend this place!!! The peel and eat were delicious as a starter. The shrimp and grits were recommended, so I tried them and was not disappointed!!! By far the best I've ever had. And the key lime pie was creamy and tart, just like it should be. Morgan was very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely come back to this place when I come back to the Keys!!! Thanks Jill, you've got a great place here!!

We vacation in the keys every year and Shrimp Shack is our must visit - at least 3x each trip. The shack style shrimp is amazing - I can't even describe what makes it so good, it's just the best shrimp I've ever had, hands down. The piña colada sauce is also a must, some sweet potato fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies - perfect meal. Honestly I haven't tried much else because the shrimp is so good. Perfect place for lunch after snorkeling or beaching or whatever to break up the day. Love the sweet tea.

This was a last minute, spur of the moment choice for a late lunch in Islamorada. Not bad... we made a terrible mistake by offering all fried food - which in turn made us kinda sick - but that was just poor judgment on our part... individually, everything we had here was very good. The fried stuffed mushroom appetizer was awesome. I still don't know what the sauce was, and I don't care to find out. The mushrooms were breaded, fried crispy and filled with some creamy cheesy thing that was truly delicious, and definitely needed no sauce. We sampled two of the shrimp baskets offered on the lunch menu; the coconut fried, and the Cajun fried. Both were very tasty - good sized shrimp and plenty of them, an incredible portion for the price. The coleslaw was ok, and we were too stuffed to eat the fries that came with the dish. Service was friendly, and fast.... Not bad at all....

Best meal all week in Islemarada or anywhere we are in the keys this week. The shrimp and grits is incredible!!! Crab bisque was perfect. I think everyone felt the same about each meal they had themselves. Even though we felt like water buffalo after a fill up at the pond how could we pass up the incredible deserts? I can't tell you what it was that my fellow buffaloes ordered for desert but it was incredible as well. Well priced, good staff and service. Hit it and get it!

Great little spot to get some grub on the way out of the Keys. Stopped in late on a Sunday night and had a really good meal. Service was a little slow but then again its the Keys. Had she crab soup. Really tasty. Fried Conch was very good and my wife had a sample shrimp plate. that was also very good.

I thoroughly enjoyed this little place. It was somewhat odd, what with the entire staff looking alarmingly similar to my one friend that got married a while back, but they were friendly and pleasant. Seafood was a little oily, but fresh and tasty. The rock shrimp po boy was exactly what you'd expect - lots of little fried shrimp, and I mean lots!, on nice soft bread with just the right slather of mayo and good lettuce and tomato. My friends got the baskets, and while the oysters were a little bland, the shrimp was tasty and the fish of the day, the mahi-mahi...whoah. It totally won the meal. Fresh, cooked so it was meaty but still moist...oh yeah. Unnh. Oooh baby. Sides were not all that great. French fries were nice and potato-ey, but soft, despite a request to make them extra-crispy. Grits tasted good, but were kinda lumpy. Hush puppies were a little drier in the middle, which I liked but my one friend didn't. Cole slaw was pleasant, nothing too exciting. Service is a little relaxed, so don't be afraid to get up and talk to someone to get the check or what have you. Super, super SUPER super affordable. It was alllllmost enough to bump it up to four stars. It DOES mean that of all the places between Miami and Key West, it'll probably be on the top of my list. Less than $10 for a filling tasty meal = yes.

  • Sylvia H.

Had the oyster poor boy it was good but better the last time I had it as they were a bit less moist. My husband had the pork belly sandwich a first for us. Think bacon but thicker, rich but very tasty. Everything we have eaten here has been very good, reasonably priced, good portions and served by friendly staff. Defiantly worth a stop.

This was the first place we ate at when we came into Florida. We stopped here on our way out to Key West. I am not much into seafood but I had their special. It was the blackened shrimp linguini. Sauce was great and the noodles and shrimp were cooked perfectly. Service was good and they were playing country music so I felt right at home.

Just ate here last night and the food was fantastic! I had coconut shrimp and it was absolutely perfect! Our waitress was a little on-edge, bordering on rude but another staff, a young man, was absolutely fantastic!

This was a great drive-by choice for a quick lunch on our way out of Key West. I had the delicious coconut encrusted Mahi sandwich. It was fantastic!! I choose their homemade Mac 'n cheese as a side and must tell ya, it was great too. Prices good. No complaints. Except the music-country. Sorry but not a fan!!

Drove all over the Keys to fin She-Crab Soup. This is killer! We'll worth the drive. We are going to take some back to our place in Key Largo. Staff is attentive, friendly, and great.

This place took us by surprise. Ordered the coconut shrimp basket with piña colada dipping sauce, hush puppies , coleslaw and fries. Came with a ton of shrimp and the coconut breading and shrimp was thick, hearty and very flavorful, especially with the piña colada sauce. French fries and hush puppies were also good. Great value for the buck. Although service was slow, the women must've been understaffed that day because they were running their tails off.

After sitting for 10 minutes waiting to order a drink. I ordered chicken wings and was waiting for waitress to come back and take My womans order . 20 minutes went by and we asked several times for service. I didnt want my wings to get there and then let me lady eat alone. 35 minutes wasted without being able to place an order. We asked for check for drinks and cancelled food. Hostess said forget the soda and we can just go. I appreciated that kind of service lol. I do not recommend this place to anyone and im Appalled at the service i received . Smh

We found this place by chance. I was starving and needed to eat something ASAP. We pull into the parking lot and notice there were few customers. We're greeted with a big smile. Meet our waitress, Connie. Connie takes our drink order. I get a Key Lime Margarita, frozen. It was gooooooooooooooooooooooooood. So good I ordered another one. To the good stuff. I ordered the she-crab soup. Wow. The best I ever had was at 82 Queen in Charleston. Well this one at the Shrimp Shack is right there with 82 Queen. Man was it good. We also got an order of the sea scallops. Cooked to perfection. They snapped when you bit into them. We had early dinner reservations so we didn't go overboard on the ordering. For the entree I decided on the KC Srimp Wreck. Hefty portions. Some of the pieces of shrimp and scallops were overcooked and over battered. It clumped together. But the fish (grouper I believe), well it was damn good. Thick pieces and cooked just right. I enjoyed it with some hot sauce. The other entree was the mahi mahi fish sandwich. Since I don't like sharing, I can't tell you firsthand if it was good. But the plate was empty as were the sides. I say that's a good sign. The reason for the 4 stars wasn't so much for the food, but because of the service. Connie made our visit so welcome. She took time to tell us about all the spots we should hit that most tourists wouldn't know about. She showed us pictures from her phone so we wouldn't miss anything. The service industry should be full of Connies. The next time we're down there, this is a must stop. Next time we'll order food like we usually do. Cheers!

We are from the low country and know our seafood. This place had food that was comparable to downtown Charleston. She crab soup, and the scalp risotto rival any of the places we've have been. The owner waited on us was super nice and friendly told us we should try the shrimp and grits if we got a chance. So we did the next night it was real good. We stayed at the Cheeca Lodge & Spa and we were right around the corner. Will be back for sure!

Have to come for Happy Hour, the best in town....every day!! Also, the baby back ribs and rock shrimp po boy is as good as it gets!

  • Donna B.

Had a late lunch here after a kayak adventure to Indian Key early in January. The service was great--very gracious about the late hour. Our drinks were potent. The food was freshly prepared for us by a kitchen that was receiving fresh caught seafood as we ate. The prices were a relief from the usual premiums asked for in the Keys. I will be back next time I'm in the area.
