Good food. Not great. Not bad. This Chinese restaurant is on par with 95% of the Chinese restaurants out there. Same quality level of food, same offerings, some lunch specials.

Tonight we had steamed fish with snapper and ginger, exceptionally fresh! Also the chicken and broccoli with brown sauce, yangchow fried rice, chinese eggplant with chicken! It's a great hollywood boulevard chinese restaurant!

I love this place! They have a great vegetarian menu with many delicious choices! I love any of their crispy tofu, but the Orange Peel is my favorite! Also I love the Szechwan string bean prepared with black mushroom, its the bomb! The veggie lo mein is also delicious! Not sure for their non- veg dishes. They always give you very fresh crispy noodles to dip in their house sauces & delicious hot tea! The people there are very humble & you feel very comfortable there even with the kids;)

Huang's is a delicious old school Chinese restaurant that serves quality food in a very basic atmosphere. Kind of like old school New York Chinese. Fantastic crispy noodles precede the main course. The orange peel beef is crispy and delicious!

Went in for the lunch special...good price. Clean establishment. Service was good. I would definitely return again. I had the sweet and sour chicken which was delicious. It was the best I've had in a while. Tasted fresh, breaded chicken crust was crispy and veggies tender. Definitely wasn't sitting around.

The food has improved. The delivery time is much faster. The order from your phone feature is very convenient! Excellent Steamed Dumplings, Crab Rangoon was okay, Orange Beef was just okay. The Pork Spare Ribs were AMAZING! HUGE portion and delicious!! Please read my previous review from 2010.

The first time, we ate in. The food was okay, so the next time we ordered 'to go', and it was awful. Overpriced.

We ordered delivery from here--Beef and Broccoli and Shrimp Fried Rice. These are our go-to Chinese food orders and we have ordered these dishes from Chinese places all over the country. The food seemed fresh and of high quality. However, the portions were on the small side, and the food just wasn't very flavorful. Given the limited options for Chinese delivery in Hollywood, we may order from here again, but we won't be super excited about it.

We always enjoy Helen's Mandarin House for our Chinese food. Helen is a great host and always makes us feel at home. We have eating here for years and they really cater to us. We always ask for Andy to wait on us because he provides very good service and is very professional. The great thing that they will make us anything we ask for and are good at customizing our dishes whenever we ask for something different than what's on the menu. I always order the same appetizers for me and my family: Mixed soup (egg drop with wontons, shredded roast pork, and scallion). Eggrolls Barbecue spare ribs Sliced roast loin of pork (the best!) Pan fried pork dumplings with their special dipping sauce Crab rangoon When we sit down they bring a bowl of fresh of fried noodles for the table with duck sauce and mustard. These noodles are so thick, crispy and delicious that I can make a meal out of them alone! I don't understand how people can rave about Tropical Chinese since they do not serve these noodles, or the other items such as wonton or egg drop soup, their roast pork are big horsy chunks of pork, and in my opinion, the chicken that they use in their main dishes don't even taste like chicken. In my opinion Tropical cannot compare to Helen's. At Helen's all of the main dishes are excellent and we always leave full and satisfied. Sometimes we order from the twilight menu where you can order soup, an appetizer, main dish and desert, all for about $10.00.

The Peking Crystal Chicken was very tasteful and delicious. Better than when I visited Beijing a few years ago. The service was very friendly with great politeness. Hollywood's downtown is charming and great place to take a date.

Pretty standard Chinese fare. Everything was good, but nothing blew me away. My ladyfriend ordered one of the "Sunset Dinners" which are available from 3pm - 7pm. Most are priced around $10 and each come with a choice of soup (wonton, egg drop, hot&sour), egg roll, white rice or vegetable fried rice (or brown rice for $2 extra ?!), entree and a cup of ice cream for dessert. I had the beef chow fun ($11.95), which was a good size portion and flavored very nice w/ the scallions and a hint of ginger. I wish they had put egg in it, though. My lady had the shrimp w/ lobster sauce which I sampled...again, pretty standard. Prices are not expensive but not cheap either. Location is great right in downtown Hollywood. I probably won't specifically come here to eat again, but when I'm in downtown Hollywood, I'll consider it as an option...

While searching for a restaurant on Christmas Eve stumbled on Helen's when plan A was closed. I'm not a Chinese fan, (prefer Thai) so had neutral expectations. The place was packed (of course) they did however have a table for 5. The service was a bit slow, the staff and manager apologized not fewer than 4 time and kept us informed (your food is cooking now..). Net net we loved it. I had the Scallops in Brown Garlic Sauce and all the veggies were very fresh, cooked tender crisp and had very good flavor. The rest of our party was extremely happy. I'm a pescatarian (eat fish and shellfood) and they had both a good vegetarian section (steamed and fried tofu as well as other m/c/p alternatives) and their soups indicated if they were made with a vegetable or m/c/p broth. We liked enough to go back for lunch on 1/1.

I ate here for lunch and the food was terrible- my lo neon noodles were dry and the chef used canned veggies. There was zero flavor. My egg roll was a frozen item- nothing fresh or homemade!

I have eaten at Helen" Mandarin House for years. The food here has always been excellent. The lo mien and chow mien are both favorites and the spicier Szechuan specialties are the best. They will add whatever amount of spice to the dish that you like from mild to hot. This is some of the best oriental food in Hollywood

So-so Chinese. Ordered delivery. Good, quality ingredients but lacking flavor. Had the combination fried rice, which was very light in color. The Kung Pao chicken had a good sauce but the chicken itself wasn't infused with flavor. Eggrolls were ok. I did enjoy the crab rangoon. Good flavoring to that. My first Chinese food experience in south Florida. I can only hope for it to be better.

We ate outside it was a lovely day. We ordered egg rolls and then three different combination meals. The egg rolls were deli ever before our food like an appetizer which I don't really like, but they were so delicious that it didn't matter, I wish I would of ordered more. The price is average, but for what you get I say your getting a steal. My boyfriend and I got were honey garlic and generals chicken, which were great fresh meat. I would recommended stopping by here if you get the chance. The waitstaff was pleasant, the only thing I would change is we asked for some sweet and sour sauce and he have us the plumb sauce that was on the table when we wanted the chicken dipping sauce. An understandable miscommunication with the lay gauge barrier.

Very Small portions. Took a long time to get our take out ready. Food was average.

Stellar service. Dining room clean and orderly. Unfortunately, Ms. Helen is still using the same dark brown unappealing sauce on both chicken and beef dishes. It looks and tastes like the BROWN GRAVY product that comes in a little bottle and is used to create gravy. Both dishes were expertly prepared, veg crispy and fresh. Meat suffocated in pasty brown sauce. A shame. Really.

Amazing! The service and the food are great! Its a great restaurant to grab lunch or dinner. My favorite is the Singapore noodles but ask to make it a little spicy if you like that. The service is wonderful, the owner is very nice. I highly recommend this restaurant if you're in the mood for good Chinese food. Everything is good while you are in the restaurant, but delivery takes too long. We have ordered twice here and it took over an hour to have it delivered and we live very close. The first time was because the driver was lost and second time we did not have a reason why they were so late.

This is one bad review I actually dont want to give because I do like this little establishment, the workers try very hard and the service, though sparse...is decent. The vegetables are always fresh and food always hot. BUT: The prices dont match the portions one gets. And the Chicken taste AWFUL! I dont know what synthetic flavor I taste in the chicken..but its strong enough to ruin my meal. I make a habit out of avoiding any meat Entrees at this place because of the weirdness of the taste. Could someone please help them?! Its an earnest restaurant...but the storage/preparation practices really need to be inspected.

I'm giving 5-Stars for the following reasons. I love the folk who own and operate this long standing Hollywood restaurant. You get extraordinary lunch specials here (at a great value and portions are filling, varied and blended), but mostly because of their Subgum Pan Fried Noodles. I've eaten this dish under other names in other cities (from NYC to S.F.) and Helen's version often times has me up at night wondering if the place is still open! A sweet spot in hip Hollywood...

Been coming here for years. Its never greasy, always delicious BUT food can take a very long time to get and service was really really slow. Probably because its usually busy so have a snack on the way if you're super hungry. They also have a great Chinese New Year show!

Ill. No, that's no 'I'll', I know where to place my apostrophes. This place is just ILL. Better yet, ILLLLLLL. Or better yet, EWWWWWWWW. Finding quality Americanized-Chinese food can be a burden in south Florida. Even me, being a strong health addict, I have my occasional cravings for all things Trans fats, those are what are commonly referred to as "cheat-days". Usually cheat-days consistent of just consuming shit out of a Walgreens cooler, but for today, I felt the need for some fried, left-over food (or atleast, that's what it tasted like). Everything was just terrible: Fried chicken 0/0. Pork fried rice 0/0. Crab rangoon 0/0. My cheat day now ended with a bad case of IBS, which I'll need to destroy with a solid beneficial bacteria strain. Thanks a lot, Helen.

I have been to Helen Huang's twice now and I loved my experience both times. I have gone for lunch and dinner and both times we were offered complimentary hot tea as soon as we were seated. We had missed the dinner specials the first time we went, so I ordered the Mongolian beef entree. I was surprised when our server actually prepared the dish table side. That was a really nice touch especially since that's something you don't see very often, and it was delicious. I returned today for lunch and had their hot and sour soup and General Cho's chicken with fried rice and once again found everything delicious. The portions are generous and everything is fresh and flavorful. This may seem a little silly, but I love that when you order iced tea, they bring a little caraffe with more tea along with your glass so you can help yourself as often as you like. Also, on both occasions the iced tea tasted fresh. As someone who frequently orders iced tea, I have gotten my fair share of bitter tea that has obviously been sitting around too long, so I greatly appreciate tasty refreshing iced tea whenever I get it. I should also mention the great service I received both times I went. Everyone was friendly and attentive and the place is clean, pleasant, and inviting. I'm glad my favorite Chinese restaurants were both closed on Super Bowl Sunday, otherwise I probably would have never given Helen's a shot and I would have truly missed out on a good thing.

Meh.... Not very impressed. We ordered 75.00 in take out to lounge around on a Sunday afternoon and watch movies. The food was lacking some serious flavor. It was the 1st time ever, I was able to control myself around chinese food. I usually eat until I cant fit anymore in my stomach, but today was a cinch. Dont get me wrong, the people that work there were VERY nice, but I think the chef forgot to use salt? Anything? The Generals Chicken that my friend got wasnt even eaten. Totally dried out chicken. My Mongolian Beef, was, um... boooooring. The best part of the meal was the Fortune Cookies. Sorry Manadrin House... But 75.00 for a TON of left overs that wont get eaten is not that great in my book.

Been going to Helen's for quite a while now and they never disappoint. The food is always good and so is the service. Their delivery is pretty quick too. My wife loves their shrimp fried rice, and I really like their sweet and sour chicken. Solid Chinese food at good prices. They are open 7 days a week (incl holidays). Plenty of on-street parking as well as a couple of city lots nearby.

It seems like every Chinese restaurant in FL has the same low quality garbage. This place is the exception to the rule for me. It is a little more expensive than other places, but not by much and believe me it is worth it if you care about the quality of your food! I can't speak for the history of the place/management changes other reviews have referenced, but I've ordered delivery from here twice in the past two weeks and was very impressed. At most Chinese delivery places here, the food seems like it was either reheated or frozen and warmed up. That is not the case here!

Always good! We go eat here often. Honey Garlic Chicken is the best I've had. Great Chinese place!!

I am happy to report that on a recent visit to this restaurant the "newer" management seems to have reverted to some of the original cooking practices of the previous management; fried foods like honey garlic chicken are noticeably ungreasy and their egg rolls are the bomb. Helen Huang's has the destinction of being the only Chinese restaurant where I leave not feeling over stuffed like I have just eaten a lead ball; the food is obviously prepared in a more healthy manner than most. There are plenty of Vegetarian dishes and brown rice is available which is unusual for the typical Chinese restaurant. Their standard fried rice is vegetable fried rice and not the pork fried rice that most Chinese Restaurants serve. Add to this that Hollywood has just made limited parking down town free (as long as it lasts) it is more appetizing than ever to come here.

My first time having food from here. I got the beef and broccoli lunch portion which came with an egg roll/ soup and rice. Great price, great food, and they were here within 10 minutes! I was shocked. Definitely recommend it.

If any less one star I will definitely rate it as 0 star A blond lady was there could not tell if she was an employee or customer she kept bad mouthing other restaurants she mentioned one called Darna which I have been too my experience was great she mentioned others as well but little did she know that when my order came it had a nasty hair in it! Disgusting! I complained and all I got was an attitude anyhow I won't be going back and telling all my friends btw it turns out she was the owner or co owner.

This is by far my favorite Asian restaurant. Every time I'm in Hollywood to visit my mom and we want some Chinese food, this is our go to. I'm a vegan so I'm usually pretty limited to tofu or straight vegetable dishes without protein but I like the variety here. I've tried the wheat sausage and more recently the tofu and bean sauce. Making it a mission to try the rest of them.

Food was nice and fresh, excellent flavor, great service, and very inexpensive. My new favorite place for Chinese food.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
