The only thing great about this place is the view... The waitress started with what they didn't have rather than what they did.The food was gross! The shrimp were so over cooked and doused in seasoning that we sent them back. The lady brought some more and they were still over seasoned and salty. The crab legs were brown... uhh? And the waitress said that's how they were supposed to be. We also saw both waitresses smoking cigarettes in the middle of the restaurant. There's no air conditioning inside. And, they didn't have keylime pie. Overall, I would never go back or recommend this place to anyone.

Wow. Very impressed with Marker 8.5 Fried shrimp, sweet potato fries, scalloped potatoes, shrimp creole were all excellent. Fabulous food presentation and garnish. Homemade cocktail sauce and tartar sauce are amazing if you are a horseradish lover like I am.

Great ambiance, awesome new menu and very friendly owner who introduced himself when we walked in. The dining area is right on the water and outside the trees were lit up with lights. Highly recommended for good atmosphere and a good dinner.

Excellent hole in the wall restaurant where Jimmy Buffett motif reigns supreme. Excellent blackened grouper and grilled salmon. Worth the drive anytime.

Good location on the water near Ten Thousand Islands. Casual and unpretentious restaurant which had both indoor and outdoor dining and live music when we were there. Had a couple of decent draft beer options available. The service was attentive but unobtrusive. I had a tasty shrimp po boy and potato salad. The shrimp on the former was perfect. The potato salad was a bit bland. Family satisfied with their meals. Perhaps a bit expensive for what you get but then again it's near Naples and Marco Island. Everything is expensive around here.

Had the fried shrimp and it was fantastic! Service was excellent too. Hubby had the blackened grouper tower and the fried oysters. No room for dessert.

Wanted to try this laid back place on the water. Definitely mixed results. We went early (5:30) because we heard that it got busy later on. We were seated promptly and were given a plate of delicious warm muffins. So far so good. Unfortunately it was downhill after that. We sat for 20 minutes without a waitress because neither could agree who had our table. Once we finally had a waitress she was friendly and apologetic . We wanted to start off with the fried oysters but they didn't have any. My wife ordered one of their specialties, the yellowtail but didn't have that either. Our waitress then told us of 3 or 4 other things that they didn't have. We ordered the Mahi Mahi and the shrimp creole both were just ok. We ran into a couple that we knew as we were leaving that experienced similar problems. They were given the wrong check and when they finally received the correct one it was wrong. Bottom line fair food, friendly service but disorganized. I recommend that you go to the Little Bar better food , better selection same atmosphere and they are ready for Prime Time.

Stopped in here after driving over to Goodland from Marco island during a conference. Sat down outside and, while it was a hot day, they did have an oscillating fan going that helped cool things off. Ordered the fried shrimp basket and the buffalo shrimp. Oh. My. God. The absolute best shrimp I have ever had. Each one was HUGE and was coated in the lightest batter that provided just enough seasoning and taste. The service is no-frills but quick and accommodating, and the price was reasonable (14 for the shrimp dinner). It was so good, we went back the next evening for seconds! I would give it 5 stars if it wasn't for the mosquitoes we encountered in the parking lot, but if you can brave the occasional buzzing as you make your way to the door, you will NOT be disappointed!

The view was great. Swatting flies; not so much. A local relaxed restaurant. Many grouper dishes which were just okay. Small portions and not so cheap for a very informal restaurant. The best part was seeing a flock of roseate spoonbills fly by. May be better to just go there for a beer and a burger or something.

Great Place for Breakfast! Not unlike my favorite beach breakfast joints in South Texas: Manuel's and Ted's.

Found great reviews of this seafood place on Yelp and headed right over on our first full day here for a late lunch on a Sunday. My husband and I come to Marco every February and tried to visit last year but it was closed. Today We waited a short time for a inside table as it was a cool, breezy day and few were taking the porch option. Service was very good, quick, friendly and accomodating. We both had the fried oyster baskets and the oysters were cooked perfectly. Sides were all terrific and the ungussied up sweet potato fries were the best we have had. We are going to return soon for the terrific looking stone crab claws they are featuring now! Apparently a fave with locals and a great casual ambience. So head right on past the crowd at Stan's and home in on the M8 - you will be glad you did. Oh, and PS we like Stan's too but a very different place and experience.

A must visit when in Marco or the surrounding area. Little place with great fresh seafood and great views - I hope they stick around for a long time, wish I was in Marco more often to enjoy. Have been for bfast, lunch, and dinner and have left happy every time.

Came here almost by accident. Simple place with gravel parking lot, inside decor is straight from a Jimmy Buffet song. Wasn't expecting much but a decent piece of fish and a cold beer but was very pleasantly surprised with presentation and quality of our meals. I had the yellow tail snapper fillet with crab covered with lobster sauce. The food was plated much as you would expect from much fancier digs. You can tell the owner-who personally comes to every table to say hello-takes great pride in his restaurant. The conch fritters were more fritter than conch but the size and taste was good. Typical seafood plate will set you back about $20-$25 but that is typical for the area. If you are staying on Marco Island, this is worth the trip out.

Ate here on a restaurant.com Giftcert. Was scared to enter upon viewing the place from the parking lot. Pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. Had the conch fritters, yum! Grouper and gumbo very good. Wish the selection of beer and wine were better. Scenic and fantastic view of the mangroves , local wildlife both animal and human. Will return again with family from out of town for Old Florida Style Eats!

Went in this afternoon, wanting to eat outside by the water with my dog... they could not have been friendlier and more accommodating... Had the smoked fish dip and shrimp poboy, both excellent. It was very enjoyable, incredible view... they will get my money again. Thank you for a great lunch!!!

Ehhh. OK, I suppose The grouper sandwich was overpriced and not that exciting, but the view was good and the little crabs crawling around outside on the screens kept us entertained The conch fritters were also tasty but a pet peeve of mine is when an appetizer comes in uneven quantities when there are 2 people - bring me 4, or bring me 6, but why 5 when there's a table for 2? (honestly we wouldn't have even noticed if they only brought 4, but splitting a fritter is not easy as they are a bit messy) The service was good, but no refill on the iced tea, and it was a hot day so was a bit disappointed in that. View was good and the day was beautiful so sitting on the deck was relaxing, and the place was very clean, the stars are more for the view than the food.

Had a drink with the wife here one afternoon and enjoyed the company and view. Heard they had a good fish breakfast (which doesn't seem to exist around here) so went back. Our waitress was super super nice. But the empty parking lot and the cook enjoying a smoke on the bench out front should've been warning enough. It was low tide exposing a sand bar and stink ocean muck. Did not make for sitting outside very fun. We cut our losses, paid for coffee and moved on.

Staff extremely friendly. Service is top notch. Meals are the real deal. Fish sandwich...fish just off the boat...oysters hand dipped and fried...excellent...portions on the smaller side.

We have been there for lunch and happy hour before decided to try the Sunday pig roast GREAT BUFFET friendly staff and a fun band playing while you eat outside. My wife and I will go back soon

Food was good. Had the shrimp basket. It was a bit pricey. Had the 1/2 and 1/2 soup. It was good but the difference in the cup and the bowl must be a spoonful not worth paying the extra dollar. Mahi mahi was. bland. Reuben was good but the bread was sweet. Cheeseburger was very good. Setting was nice.

Terrible environment with clouds of cigarette smoke. We left without ordering and will never go back. The owners should pay attention to FL laws and the preferences of the vast majority to avoid tobacco smoke. The waitress refused to accommodate our request to stop the smoking in the restaurant, not smart. Stan's and The Little Bar have equally good food and do not permit smoking.

Was told to go here for breakfast because it was good, it wasn't . Got the "3-egg" omelet that was real small and diff. not three eggs, got an English muffin that was served white and not toasted, after asking to toast it more, she brings it back and 99% of it is still white, if your going to serve breakfast get a toaster that works! Coffee does not come w/breakfast and it's 2.50 a cup! Total w/tip was over 18 dollars!!! View is nice but not worth it at all, for 18 dollars the omelet should have been huge, I left hungry! Overpriced is the theme of this place!

I given them a 4.5 Had the grilled Seafood, but instead of the potato's, I switched to the rice and black beans - VERY GOOD!!

The atmosphere is fantastic, we felt like we were on some remote island somewhere in the Caribbean. Amazing what comes out of that little kitchen. I had the fried oysters. Unlike the over-breaded basket you get at Snook, these were delicate and succulent - stood on their own without having to drench them in tartar or cocktail sauce. Nice presentation too. If you want old, pre-commercial Florida this is the place to go.

Even though Marker 8.5 is kinda shabby, I like the place. Lovely screened-in porch overlooking the Marco River. OMG the bar, the bar, I had a piece of wood dug out of the bar right in front of where I sat. Cigarette butts were put out in it that dug out area. Yup, they allow smoking. Yikes! We spent afternoon happy hour with the locals and had a good time. We stayed to long and decided to eat. I had French fried shrimp which I have to admit were pretty good. My husband had chicken sandwich. He said it was good. I think over-priced. And, to tell you the truth I was shocked that my wine at happy hour, normally $9.00 a glass, was only $1.00 off. I had 3 drinks and the wine came to $24.00. I was shocked, what kind of happy hour is that? More like rip-off hour. We won't go back.

An amazing seafood restaurant with a breathtaking view! My girlfriend and I started out by sharing the Marker 8 1/2 specialty soup (half conch/ half clam chowders). A really good mix. The fried oysters were BIG and JUICY (well, that's what she said). A dozen were enough to satisfy the both of us, and when it came time for her salad and my crab po' boy we were almost ready to burst. The po' boy was big, and the crab was fried just right, with enough of the crab taste to really hit you. It made an amazing late night snack :)

Bout the only thing going for this place is the view. Server took our order and brought out our sodas and smoked fish dip. Dip was pretty good and after we are done eating the smoked fish she comes out to tell us they are out of oysters and we both ordered oysters. Clueless server, management and kitchen staff. Wife orders shrimp basket with sweet tater fry's and I order shrimp po boy with slaw. When the food finally arrived I was greatly disappointed as it was nothing like any po boy we had ever seen. 2 pieces of dry sliced bread 1 lettuce leaf and one slice of tomato on the side. The 5 shrimp were laying on the side of the bread. My soda sat empty at the edge of the table as the clueless waitron walked by it 5 times before coming back to see if everything was ok. I told her how disappointed I was with the so called po boy, she made no apologies or offer to correct the problem. Wife ordered key lime pie which was good, but the smallest piece we have ever seen. For sitting watching the view we were charged $47 as the food & service sucked. When you drive by the Little Bar and the Old Marco Lodge you see their parking lots full and Markers empty, now we know why. Stan's is below average, but Little Bar is the spot in this little burg.

I have only eaten breakfast here, but it is just short of spectacular. Right on the water, out on the enclosed porch. I had fresh fried fish smothered in gravy, a Bahamian style treat. Coffee was way above average. This is a laid-back casual place right on the dock. For the type of place it is, I can't imagine it any better. The waitress was a little dipsy, but very good service

A great setting and nice people The problem is the food is just not that great. It's also a little pricy considering the quality There are better places in the area.

Came here around 7 PM on a Friday night this summer, not before almost giving up on finding the place. From Marco Island we had to drive a few miles through some desolate roads and then end up curving around a trailer park. My boyfriend kept questioning me, and Yelp! where I read about this place, but we finally found some cardboard signs with the place's name and Sharpie'd arrows pointing the way. It was a small, wooden cabin perched on the waters edge. We were greeted by a friendly woman who sat us down on the screened porch, overlooking a dock strewn with Christmas lights, and quickly set us up with menus and drinks. "This feels like we're in the "Notebook", isn't this exciting?" I said, as my boyfriend looked over to the corner bar where some local fisherman where listening to "Sweet Home, Alabama" and drinking canned beers. The woman recommended the Buffalo Shrimp as an appetizer (delicious and could have had about 3 orders!), and the fried oysters (for me!) and a big steak (for my boyfriend). This came with homemade shallot potatoes and spicy carrots. Oh my god. We gulped this delicious, Southern, by-the-waters edge meal in seconds. It was truly perfect. As the sun finally set, we leaned back and unbuttoned our pants. We did same room for the best slice of key lime pie I've ever had (better than any place in Key West) and enjoyed the sounds of the bay, and the low country music playing behind the fisherman's bar, and we talked about the little blue crab making his way up the porch's mesh covering. This is the perfect definition of a hidden gem, and because of its unique simplicity, had made for a memorable evening spent by my significant other and I.

The Pro's: Great location, dockage, friendly service, excellent bread on the Po Boys, good fries. The Con's: Way too expensive, breaded items wayyy overly fried, and come on folks... a restaurant billed as "old Florida" can NOT have iced tea from a mix!!! Brew some dang tea!

Back on the island for a vacation, we stopped in today for lunch. Grouper finger basket for me a and a chicken sandwich for my wife. Food was very good, service as well. We will be heading back this week for breakfast. Nice rustic atmosphere, good food at good prices, friendly folks!

Visit on 9/06/12 Just a perfect, simple find while staying on Marco Island. This is not a fancy place. Just a cabin by the water. Only an eight mile drive. At night, it was hard to find but once at the mobile home park you are very close. Look for the sign + do not give up. At 8:15 p.m. We were seated right away by Jen, our server. She recommended the fresh grouper. We tried it two different ways. Both were fantastic. Service was attentive and fast. Jen did a fantastic job. She spent a considerable time with us since there were few customers. We got to know her and her personal stories @ Marco were interesting andwe left wanting to hear more. Do not pass up a chance to eat here and ask for Jen. This restaurantwas a highlight of our week in Florida.

This review was written in 2012 when the place was Marker 8. We had fried oysters today that were excellent. The sweet potato fries, cole slaw, and potato salad were great. We also got a discount due to a coupon we got from a geocache. We thought we'd try the key lime pie, but we failed to order it. We'll get that next time. We returned in 2013. Marker 8 had new owners, but it hadn't changed too much. 2014 brings a new name: Marker 8.5. It clearly has changed. We haven't tried it.

This is the perfect waterfront dining experience. The restaurant itself is quaint and nostalgic. Goodland is an out of the way place and Marker 8.5 is well worth the trip. The grouper tower was excellent. And what's funny is, in Florida, it's sometimes hard to find a good fish place. Well you don't need to look any further. The fish dip was some of the best I ever had. The other people in my group all raved about their food. Tony, our server, was attentive and the other servers all chipped in and helped out. This was a dining experience that was totally enjoyed by all.

I am hoping that the owner reviews this. This place was recommended to us and we also had a 25$ off with rest.com . So we were excited to try it. We loved the small home town feel of Goodland. We walked in and it was busy but there were empty tables. I was finally greeted by a server who asked if I needed help. She took our names and said it was about a 45 min wait. It was about 525 pm on a wednesday. She said there were several reservations for 530. There were empty tables with names on them and people ready to leave but no one around to help them. We stepped outside to check out the menu on the wall and a few other people walked up to us wanting to try the place but never got greated so they walked out. We waited until about 5:50 and then left. I crossed my name off the list myself and wrote a note saying that we left. It has new owners so I hope they make some changes or people wont be back. We are from out of state and were looking forward to trying it.

If you are in Marco this is a restaurant that you must put on your list. It is off the island about 10 miles but a quick and easy drive or cheap taxi. The owner is always in house and the food is of great quality. Best food on the island and offers the best price. I have eaten here 10 plus times over the years never disappointed.

Great new chef! Crab cakes are superb. Pan sautéed fish is excellent too. Staff always picks my dish. Casual spot with good old school Florida vibe. Sit out on the patio and watch the boats heading offshore.
