Went to late lunch mid-week with spouse. Décor was nice - the typical bright colors of an authentic Mexican restaurant. We were seated immediately. Even though there were only a couple other tables of patrons service was slow. Not crazy slow, but slow. The salsa that came with the chips was good but seemed watery. The menu font and size was not the easiest to read. Menu appearance should be redesigned. We had the vegetarian quesadilla and chicken fajita. Both were tasty dishes and well portioned. Price for the amount of food was great. Overall a good experience and will try again.

This is a local restaurant and one I have been to on several occasions. I have always been seated quickly and served in a reasonable time. The Taquitos are excellent as an appetizer and last night I had the chorizo and beef tacos meal which was also excellent. My partner had the polo margarita (chicken) smothered in onions and peppers which she really liked. The frozen margaritas are also very good. I try other Mexican restaurants in the area, but always come back to this one.

The chips may not have been fresh and the service was ok, but the food was really good. The menu is very broad compared to most Mexican restaurants and I'd put the quality up there with Cantino Laredo.

LOVE the carnitas and nachos al carbon! The hornitos margarita is a favorite of mine too. Super friendly staff, clean restaurant, and family oriented. This is my favorite mexican restaurant in Julington creek!

I heard from a friend of mine that Mezcal was pretty good, so I thought I would give it a try. Upon arriving we were seated by the hostess. It was approximately 6:50 PM we are seated. Happy hour ends at 7:00 PM, so I was trying to get a drink order in before that time arrived. I sat there with my party for 7 minutes without even being greeted by our server. So, I took it upon myself to go to the bar and place our drink order. We received our drinks and was then greeted by our server. She gave us menus and said she would be back soon to take our order. Not long after she left, another young lady came and set down some chips and salsa without saying a word to us. ( I think that some of these employees don't speak English very fluently). We ordered out entrees and they came to us within 10-15 minutes. The food was very good and plentiful. To go boxes will be needed. I strongly suggest to order the guacamole made table side. That was obviously fresh and very good. The fajitas were the bomb! By the way, the chips were horrible, but the salsa was great.

Went during lunch. Service was ok, but the food was bland and boring. I had the chicken chimichanga. The meat had barely any seasoning and the cheese sauce had an odd taste like maybe it was old. Refried beans were straight from the can with the same odd tasting cheese on top. Even the salsa was bland; I didn't even know that was possible. There are better places around to get Mexican food. Skip this place.

Our second time was just as good as the first time. Our server was Scarleth and she was friendly and prompt and did a fantastic job. The foodand drinks were just great! We'll be back!

Evening out with friends and decided to try this restaurant. I ordered hard taco with beef which came only with beef lettuce and cheese so asked for sour cream and guacamole. I got a soft taco. My friend ordered soft beef taco and rice and got a chicken taco. Now the side of guacamole was no bigger than a shot glass but sufficient amount to add to my taco. When I got the bill I was over charged for the taco charged 4.99 just for the small amount of guacamole and charged for the rice my friend ordered. Btw the cost of the guacamole was more than cost of a taco. It was overwhelming consensus to NOT return to this establishment

I have been here twice and really liked the food. The guacamole is made table-side and is delicious. The margaritas are great, as well. I had the Santa Fe quesadilla and it was great!

Second time trying this restaurant. First time was during the grand opening, service was exceptionally slow and food was lacking. Now the second time, food was worse and service was even worse because the restaurant was only half full. After complaining management didn't feel the need too even acknowledge the horrific food and service. Don't waste your time or money.

Good food, festive environment, wait staff much nicer than LaNop on San Jose. Think for price and quality- MUCH better than our former "go-to" Mexican joint.

Not sure what else to say but... meh. The food was pretty bland, and the service was very slow.

My family and I were looking for a low-key restaurant for my parents' anniversary and despite my friends' cautionary tales, we went ahead and decided to try it! Because, really how bad is a place describe as "not that great"? We were too hungry to have any high expectations or standards. The hostess was very kind and showed us to our table immediate (the only part of the entire experience that had any element of acceleration or quality). From then on the experience was horrid. We sat 45 minutes before our order was taken. The table across from ours was seated twenty minutes after us received their boxed leftovers and check before our order was taken. The soda machine was broken so the drinks were limited. I understand that a relatively new restaurant may have some kinks to work out with new machinery and what not but after getting our food, I would rather drink water out of the St. John's River than have a milk from Mezcal. When our food was finally served, half the table had to wait and extra 15 minutes for their food. The refried beans had the constitancy of Gorilla Glue. An order of chimichangas came out as a regular soft taco. Overall, the food was bland and gross. The service was terrible. The waitress didn't know the basic items that were on the menu. The worst part was that some tables were taken care of quickly while others were not. Being famished and watching others eating should be labeled as a cruel and unusual punishment. Thanks for the torture. I'll be sure to hit up Don Juan's the next time I want delicious Mexican food where the owner personally takes care of you.

This restaurant is okay, but honestly the food was bland without much flare. The restaurant is clean and bright with a huge bar - Probably a great place for happy hour! We ate a late lunch, so the place was dead, besides one other couple at a table & another family who came in mid-way through our meal. The server was really nice and the service was perfect. The chips were thicker than other Mexican restaurants, which I liked. I ordered a SUPER lunch which had one of seemingly everything - It was served on multiple plates (Go big or go home!). I could only eat a portion of the meal, but it didn't matter because it all tasted the same. There was nothing wrong with the food - it was presented as expected & fresh-tasting - but my YUMMY lights & sirens were not going off with each bite. I likely won't be back because there are so many other meal options in this area, but I'm glad that I tried it.

When I think of a meal at a Mexican restaurant, I think of fun atmosphere with quick and good food. This experience was absolutely none of those things. Let's start with walking in the door. Hey hostess lady, maybe you're having a bad night. Ok. Fine. But could you at least pretend that you're the least bit pleased that we chose to dine at your establishment? No? Fine. Just throw the menus down on the table and walk away. No problem. And then we wait. And wait. And wait. Finally, after six or seven various employees walk by, look at us, and then continue walking, a waiter sheepishly approaches the table and asks, "has anyone been to your table yet?" Sure Mr. Wizard, we ordered, ate, and were just waiting for our check! No. Remained calm. Ordered two beers and the fajitas. Easy order right? They must make a lot of fajitas at a Mexican restaurant so should be able to get it out in a reasonable amount of time right? Right? Wrong. We sat down at 8:00 pm. At 9:15 there was no sign. Of anything. Waiter came by 1 or 2 times to tell us that he was checking on the food. That it would be out soon. That he had some nice beachfront property in Kansas to sell us. It didn't matter what he told us. THERE.WAS.NO.FOOD. Finally asked to speak to the manager. Some 12 year old kid came out and was very apologetic. Told us that it would be just 5 more minutes. We told him we were pretty skeptical. This asshat had the balls to them say, " well if you're willing to stay, the waiter MAY give you a discount on your food." Seriously? We're rapidly approaching an hour and a half of waiting for some fajitas and we "may get a discount?" We gave it five more minutes. Then five more. Nothing. Nada. Zip. Zilch. So we threw ten bucks on the table and walked out. How's the food? Who knows? I could have flown to Mexico and had a meal quicker than this. If you do decide to go, and I would have to question your sanity for making that decision, pack a lunch, you may get a little hungry while you wait. Forever.

We went because I had a $3 coupon, but found out we can't use it because I ordered a margarita and it was Monday....so had to choose between my coupon OR the 2 for 1 margarita. Ok that's fine...chips were not my fav....top thick for my taste. (And deep fried it seemed) salsa was fresh and had great ingredients. But good salsa is no good with bad chips. Houar Margarita was $6.25! That's a lot to me for jose cuervo. Kids meals were $5.99, too much for 1 taco, rice and beans so had them order off a la carte menu. I ordered just the Chile relleno, for $3.25...very good but obviously more of an appetizer or side dish. Hubby rates it a 3.5-4 stars....he enjoyed his combo plate of beef burrito and beef enchilada with rice /beans. $8.50. Fun, clean atmosphere. Nice employees for sure....attentive, sweet. Just a little too pricey for Mexican food that is just average Mexican food. Was hoping for a slightly higher caliber at least since the building is very nice and large.

I have read the reviews and even been to the restaurant at the beaches. I like the one at the beach. This place is cool I really like the beam work inside but it was done by a friend of mine for the previous occupant. The service was a little slow today at lunch. The food however was really good. I also liked the salsa it tasted fresh and I can tell. I have made a few buckets of salsa in my days. I did order a Mexican Pizza with steak today. It came out good and hot with plenty of tender steak pieces. Now this isn't your pick um up pizza this is a very light and crispy crust. It is almost like a crispy thin calzone. There was beans, peppers, onions, lettuce, tomatoes, steak, and what looked like a mountain of cheese. I really did enjoy the food but I was almost to full to go back to work. Thank God I own the company and I could go slow after lucj here.

Not sure why the previous 2 stars for Mcantina. The Tomales are the best I've ever had. Chips and salsa were awsome and hot. Service was great. We will be back.

Always been good. Service can be slow, very so. but much better options then most Mexican. I just want to pay and leave, but dont see any servers anywhere. This three star can go to a the longer I wait. Most places do not give you pork options, Which is the best.

Kind of disappointed. Started with the chips. They weren't fresh. Perhaps from a bag? Food was just ok. Prices were decent for a Sunday lunch. Maybe I'll try it again sometime.

We gave this place a try because we thought the wait would be a shorter wait than the other restaurants in the complex. 10-15 minutes to get a table, not bad, and an hour later we were finally eating. In all it took us 2 hours from walking in to walking out. Soooo slooooooow. If you're looking for real Mexican food versus the typical gringo style, keep on looking. My wife got Shrimp Diablo which tasted exactly like Frank's red hot sauce with rice and beens on the side. I had the burrito loco, which was ok, but the plate was super hot unlike the burrito. All the other plates were just as hot while the food was just as not. Overall not impressed at all and will not be going back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
