Old World Restaurant

A friend and her parents first brought me to the Old World in 1985, I was 13 years old. This was their favorite restaurant in Citrus County. They ate here for a few times a week for as long as I have known them. Through the years my family and friends have been enjoying dinners here as well. While I have tried other things on the menu including the schnitzel, prime rib, fried shrimp, and other moist and delectable items, my favorite is Maria's liver and onions smothered in bacon. Over the last few years my friends' parents have both passed on, but like me she still brings her family to her parent's favorite restaurant. While the décor is dated, the restaurant is very clean and well maintained. You can always count on the food being fresh and delicious. Prices are very affordable and the food quantity is abundant. For just $22 total my mom and I each had soup, salad, liver and onions, and mashed potatoes and gravy. Yes you get soup, salad, and bread as part of your meal for an already inexpensive price.
Drove over to Old World from Bushnell on a Sunday night. It is situated on 41 just south of Floral City on the west side. The place was not quite half full but close. We had the soup (bean soup and chicken noodle), which was pretty good. My wife had the Kassler (smoked pork chop), rotkohl (red cabbage) and spaetzle (little dumpling noodles). These were fine, not overly cooked. The spaetzle did not seem fresh. I had the German Combo Platter which consisted of two wurst (knockwurst and a bratwurst) and a Kassler chop, fries, and sauerkraut. These were good as well, not great. All in all, a decent meal. Price: worth the meal, not overly pricey. Service: Ours was attentive and there when you needed something. I saw another table that was having trouble getting their meal in a timely manner. Going back: probably at some point
We have been discussing eating here for quite some time, as my husband's mother and father used to frequent this establishment quite often. We were looking forward to the Prime Rib... Unfortunately, it is no longer offered as a regular menu item since the quality was not consistent; however, it will be offered as a specialty item in the future. We were still very pleased with the quality of the food. The soup bar (chicken soup) was fantastic (All you could eat)! The salad was fresh and the T-bone steaks were cooked to perfection! We would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a home cooked German meal in a family setting. Full bar available, btw... Little, bitty issues, here and there, prevent me from giving 5 stars....don't let that keep you away from a fantastic German meal in a clean, vintage setting! We will definitely return!

The best place for hotdogs and burgers! I drive 30 minutes out of my way to eat at this place! The staff is always funny and friendly and the food is amazing! Hotdogs and hamburgers sounds like a pretty limited menu but don't be fooled. They have a full menu! There are a few other things aside from dogs and burgers too. Great fries!
Asked my wife if she wanted to get a hot dog. She asked where and I wouldn't tell her. I wasn't sure she'd go. We pulled in and she said, "well, this will be interesting." As you can guess by the other reviews, it is a road side converted trailer with an awning in front to provide shade for the plastic furniture seatings. Wrapped around the awning are those blue, green, and yellow triangle flag lines you see at most car dealerships. Parking: There are about 7 parking spaces in front as you pull off the road. I imagine you can park, if those are full, next door and walk over. The Menu: A full up hot dog menu to give you a lot of choices. It shows different sauces, regular and foot longs for the dogs, sides and cans of soda to drink. Food: I had a foot long Chicago dog full up (with hot peppers). Chicago dogs are beef hot dogs, with bright green Chicago relish, onions, mustard, sport peppers, tomatoes, a quarter dill pickle covering it and celery salt. Although the bun should be a steamed poppy seed bun, my bun was not poppy seed. (ketchup is not acceptable). My wife, being from West Virginia, had the West Virginia dog, which included a load of sauerkraut and the coney sauce. Having just retired from a job I had in the Chicago area, I know Chicago dogs. My favorite place for a Chicago dog is either Portillo's (any of the locations) or SuperDawg (on N Milwaukee). This Chicago dog was good, almost as good. However, a plus is the special ambiance. Had a good talk with both the cashier (I believe she is Pudgee's wife) and Pudgee (the cook) myself. Good people. Go back: Yupp. definitely. I want to try my other Chicago food weakness-Italian Beef sandwich.
Pudgee's is an old trailer converted to a hot dog/burger stand in Floral City with mismatched aged discount plastic patio furniture for seating. This is not fine dining. No shirt, no shoes, no problem sums it up, but the food is very good for what it aims to be. They offer a wide variety of hot dogs from well known national providers in a wide variety of styles. I had the Florida Swamp Dog with sport peppers and sauerkraut added with a Vienna Beef dog, and it was very good. The fries were natural cut, come served in a half sized paper bag that serves as the serving container, and were outstanding. Great flavor, not overly greasy or salty. One downside is on a hot Central Florida afternoon getting a soda that would best be described as "slightly cooled" was a bit of a disappointment. Worth grabbing a hot dog or burger from if you are in the area and not looking for fine dining. Of course if you are looking for fine dining in Floral City you may have larger issues than where to eat.

Ok, because I am lazy I gave this dump a 2nd chance. I can't believe the garbage that was presented to me on a plate. I went out on a limb and ordered the weiner schnitzel with mashed potatos. DISGUSTING! the schnitzel was obviously out of a box of frozen perfectly formed oval shaped patties that must have been from China, they were horrid. One bite & I spit it out, tasted the mashed and they were not only instant but a very fowl taste like idk perhaps the water they mixed with was from the toilet or something. I had my wife taste both and she said it was gross and that I should not eat it. After leaving the plate precariously perched on the very edge of the table for a least 5 minutes the "waiter" finally asked if there was a problem. I told him how it was all really disgusting, he appologized and left the plate on the table for another 5-10 minutes. When he came back by I asked him to remove the plate because the smell was also bad (seriously). I then asked him if he had ever tasted the mashed or the schnitzel there. He responded "Dude, sorry I didn't mean to say dude, I work here 2 nights a week while I go to college. I have never had that" My wife's burger was actually good. It tasted like it was grilled fresh. My son's "philly cheese steak" was nasty. The meat was a weird color of grey and very bland, oddly bland to be sure. To the proprietor of this establishment: It is not hard to make a real schnitzel and mash. Nor is it difficult to make a good philly with real steak. It can also still be very profitable for you to do things right as people will return. I myself will always be happy to pay more for quality. The appearance of your restaurant is substandard and to me screams lazyness. Example; under the table next to ours was an old wad of napkins that had been placed under one of the legs in an attempt to stop it from wobbling, the napkins wer hardly recognizable as they have so much filth and floor grime all over them from being there so long. Honestly when I saw those bacteria infested wads of filth I felt sick. I can only imagine how nasty your kitchen must be. I wish Yelp had a negative star rating available as this would be my first use of it.
Needs a little updating, looks like it hasn't changed since the 80s. The staff was friendly and the food was fair no complaints.
It is a small town pub. As mentioned by other reviewers - eclectic. I had a great burger for lunch. The bar tender is a bit snarky but if you go with the flow - it's all good.
