This was my first time ordering from Nicola's and I have to say...I was beyond impressed. I ordered the special and the vegetable pizzas. They were both beautifully LOADED with fresh ingredients. Perfectly balanced so that one flavor didn't overpower any of the others. I'm new to the area and all I could think was how awesome it will be to share this place with visiting friends and family. I ordered from Nicole who was spot on with what seems to be a very genuine concern for customer service. Although I had ordered by phone and walked in a couple of minutes early, she immediately walked back to the kitchen to retrieve my pizzas. And, to top it off, I was able to take notice of the very tidy, cozy dining accommodations while I waited for her to return to the front counter. I can't wait to return and begin trying other items on their menu. This was a Home Run for me. :)

We rented a place on Boca Grande for a week and were limited on places to eat. We decided to venture off the Island and stumbled across this Italian gem. The food was fantastic and the service excellent. I had the calamari and linguini, and to top it off 5 adults and 3 children under a hundred bucks. If you are down this way this is a sure bet for a great meal.

Traditional Italian meals served in smallest friendly restaurant or take out if you like. Never had a bad meal here. Reasonably priced. Everyone I've talked with about Nicola 's likes it, even my particular Italian friends.

Spouse really likes this place (me too) which we discovered by accident at the beginning of a previous visit. A great find! It is a zoo to get into sometimes but inside it is calm and serene, good food and service and reasonable prices. And there is a bar and seating (also smoking :(( ) outside while u wait. Unfortunately they make you pay the bar separately which can give your credit card company fits (for multiple charges at the same place in a short time).

We enjoyed Nicola's, the prices were reasonable. The chef was kind enough to fix pasta primavera with lots of veggies - it wasn't on the menu, but it was good -- and that's why Nicola's gets three stars. The atmosphere was marginal, but as David says, Italian atmosphere includes noise. The garlic knots were chopped up garlic sticks with lots of seasoning -- like they were pre-dipped in olive oil and the spices found in many italian restaurants. Good, but a bit olive oily. The salad was garden variety, eh. But overall, we'd go back again. There was a 15 minute wait during the week, the bar was outside and unfortunately it was cold, so it wasn't a good option. Overall, try it, people obviously love it.

The first time I split a large cheese pizza with the family during an off time, between lunch and supper . It is your standard thin crust NY style pizza. Sadly, much of the crust was not crisp (limp). The sauce had a nice flavor. Cheese was a very standard unimpressive cheese. The pizza stand they gave us had food already on it which the waitress did not notice. Since the pizza comes on its own tray we did not care about the pizza stand but we were a little surprised the waitress did not catch it. It was only because of the taste of the sauce that we decided to revisit Nicola's again. The second time we came during supper and split a large pepperoni pizza. We were very surprised with the taste of the pizza. The sauce was very bland and had almost no taste. The top of the pizza was salty from either the cheese or pepperoni. The crust was still mostly limp. I'm not sure why our second pizza didn't have the flavor we got on the first, but this inconsistency was unexpected. I do not attribute this blandness to a conflict with the pepperoni. To add pepperoni on a large pizza cost 2.50$ which seemed expensive considering the pizza wasn't very big (for a total of 15$, expensive!). The pizza and prices did not wow me enough to want to return again.

Small inside so be prepared for a wait (nice outdoor seating with limited bar service while waiting) but it is SO WORT THE WAIT! Food is excellent, real old fashion Italian. I had the special of the night, grooper with spinach & crab (plenty of REAL crab) in garlic cream sauce, AWESOME! Take out on another night really hot, right on time and packaged nice. The garlic knots are VERY ADDICTIVE! Ask for Kyle to be your server one of the best we ever had.

One of the best places to eat in wrinklewood. Its all italian, but everything seems to be made with care. and pretty fresh. The pizza is easily the best in the area, and you are a blue haired jackass if you think hungry howies, or some other turd has better. Your welcome

Marvelous, friendly place with fresh well-served menu. Service is outstanding! Every corner and crumb is pristine and sparkling. Could go there once a week. They do not take reservations and is verrry popular. One of the BEST and most pleasant places to dine. Fresh flowers on every table--and cookies to take home with you! Love it!

Wow! Really great local restaurant! Calamari was delicious, bruschetta was very good (with capers), really enjoyed my tortellini Alfredo and the husband liked his chicken parm. Good wine selection, busy place with good service. Nothing with goat cheese on the menu though -- I fiend for Italian food with some goat cheese.

Great authentic spaghetti with meat sauce and meatballs. Loved the garlic bread bites. They don't take reservations but they do take "call ahead seating" give them a call when you heading over and they'll put your name on the list.

Since moving to Florida in August, 2011, we have been searching for real Italian pizza. Finally, after moving to a new house on September 1st, we found Nicola's. Today Sept. 22, we tried Nicola's pizza. Absolutely delicious. My wife, my daughter and I all agree that Nicola's is true Italian pizza like we remembered when we lived in New Haven, CT. A wonderful Restaurant with charm and friendly service. We look forward to having a true Italian dinner there.

Great Italian food! I didn't think it was possible in Florida but it is. The place is quaint, off to the side, we never would've gone if it weren't for Yelp - we went because of the reviews. Tried on Sunday but they were closed, I should've checked. We went back Monday and all had a great dinner. Eggplant parm fresh and layered with a great red sauce (ms picky here :-). Hot toasted Meatball sub and a small bacon pizza. Good food. Simple place, great service - don't miss this one.

I have to add my praises to Nicola's. You can go to Carabbas' if you want Italian but you won't get any better food that Nicola's and you'll the charm of a chain in a shopping mall: ugh!! In Port Charlotte you need to get away from the malls and traffic! The atmosphere is charming, the dining room intimate and the service is friendly. Parking is plentiful if packed for the early evening crowd. We went at 7:30 and waited not 5 minutes for a great corner table. Located on 776 north of 771 the coming and going is relaxed and the location is quiet. And best of all it is a family owned establishment operating successfully at the location for over 20 years. I gave it four rather than five stars only because this was our first sampling. The linguini and mussels were just right and plentiful; the eggplant parm was, according to my partner, delicious and the calamari were cooked to perfection and served hot with a tasty marinara. The chianti was flavorful and the bill was reasonable. If you're looking for Italian it's really worth a try

Luved the atmosphere. Sat in the corner about 4:45 This tiny place had a few other patrons at other tables but not busy. We ordered a bottle of wine and some calamari, it was good a little chew but good breading. We ordered Dinner with Mati getting eggplant rollatine and I got the Tina seafood mix or what I call Zuppa di Pesce. Both very good mine better then Marti's but we think Michelangelo in north port is better. I just think that instead of plain ham u should put in prosciutto. By the time we left the place was packed and a waiting line. We would go back :)

The fiancé and I went here last night. It's a nice place on the inside. We went at 8 on a Friday night and there was one table available, otherwise it was packed. They bring each table one bowl of garlic knots which were great! We ordered some calamari as the hostess recommended, and she was right. They were lightly fried and the marinara sauce was great to dip them in. Very tasty and not chewy The fiancé had the stuffed shells and put meat sauce on it. There were 4 good sized shells and half were filled with cheese and the other half with meat. She preferred the ones stuffed with cheese and would probably ask for all cheese if we went back. I had the Manicotti which was EXCELLENT! Our waitress said the owner makes it with her special recipe every day. Overall, its an excellent place for Italian! We left stuffed and satisfied.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
