We had a party of four and we all enjoyed our food. I had a chicken sandwitch which was very good. The chicken was tender, not like the tough birds you get some places. The salad bar was great. There were many selections and everything was fresh. The wait staff was very slow. The place wasn't particularly crowded, but our waitress took forever to respond to our needs. We asked another waitress if she could flag down our server. Several minutes passed and the second person asked if "she" came back yet. There's a lot to be desired with the performance of the wait staff.

Food was ok but very small portions for lunch menu. Sliced pork was better than the sliced brisket. Service was good.

I ate here when i dropped my son off at camp Winona in Deleon Springs. I had a lunch portion of baby rack ribs. I chose broccoli and green beans as my two sides. 241 on the draft that I had so my bill was very modest. Service was attentive and welcoming. the food was hot and tasty upon arrival. I promptly had my second beer. My meal was delicious. I came back shortly later when I pick my son up from camp. He ordered the half chicken and he chose potatoes and corn bread and mac & cheese is his sides. I had a full rack of ribs and again I had the green beans and broccoli. Again everything was great service was great food was great bill was modest and I would go back and recommend Sonny's barbecue any time.

Another try, average bbq at best... Never consistent from one visit to another. I had the ribs and chicken tonight and the ribs were warm and chicken was cold. Too much drama to send back to kitchen, won't be back. The sauces are basically doctored up cattleman's - overly sweet and lacking depth of true flavor. Check out, no "how was your meal" just poor eye contact and banter between the staff. Brian, remember we chose your restaurant and drop more cash - remember try to exceed expectations. Complacency is not good! Btw, the fluorescent lights in the ding room are tacky.

Just wanted to comment on an awful experience I had at Brian's on the 9th of May, my birthday and graduation day. I brought 11 people in my party, including my twin sister (her birthday). My family had been planning this more than a month in advance, and made our reservation at least 72 hours in advance. They couldn't seat us inside comfortably, in spite of our reservation. We sat outside in the sun. Our birthday coupons never arrived, and to this day still haven't (even though we filled out new bday club papers). The kitchen must have been super slow, bc one of our guests had to wait 15 minutes after everyone had gotten their food. Probably because the tip was already decided, no one took any pains to give good service. I have never been to a restaurant on my birthday that didn't sing or provide some kind of birthday service with maybe one candle. Not even one for my twin sister and I to split. I have frequented Brian's for years. It was the first restaurant that I ever went to in Deland. Unfortunately, I don't want to ever go back. The food and service were very disappointing, and my family traveled from the West Coast of the United States to be there for my sister and my birthdays.

Not the best, not the worst. But I left with a full stomach. And a smile on my face. Had the Texas pulled pork sandwich. Just needed something. ??

My ribs smelled like sweaty feet, tasted bad. My mac and cheese was Kraft box mac and cheese. We also had the pleasure of listening to the entire female wait staff talk about another server who was obviously not working that day. My husband liked his food, which is the only reason for 2 stars.

Brian's catered our wedding (March 2014) and they were absolutely wonderful to work with. The food was delicious and the staff that came out were polite and very professional. Organizing the catering for the wedding was a lot easier and more affordable than I was expecting. The manager and catering manager were so nice, organized, and flexible. If you like this style of bbq and have particular arrangements that are necessary - I definitely recommend Brian's BBQ. A breeze to work with and delicious food. The catering truck was perfect for our event, thank you for helping reduce the stress of planning our wedding reception!

The staff is pleasant but the greens need to buy homemade and not heated up straight from a can! The ribs are good but I stopped going because the chicken was served pink and some blo in the chicken bone! Grits need to improve as well!!

Brian's BBQ catered our wedding on May 23, 2015 and it was amazing! The workers were very nice and accommodating to our 200 guests. They made sure that the food was replaced once something ran out and same for the drinks. Plus the food was PERFECT! Everyone at our wedding was asking about the food. The jalapeño Mac and cheese is TO DIE FOR! Also, they had the best prices for BBQ around. Also, the manager was EXTREMELY nice and very flexible. He was very helpful with everything. He even bought different throw away plates because he thought the plain black ones were too cheap looking.

Look I really enjoy good BBQ I can eat it three times a week look at my reviews, Brian's is really good but not excellent but I understand volume can do that. The service is always excellent, the potions are a little on the small side but not over-priced so the value is there. I've eaten lunch here many many times and will continue to be a loyal customer. I also noticed that on Veterans Day Vets eat free no matter what they order, not being a Vet myself I think this shows the true character of Brian's BBQ thank you for recognizing our veterans and you will continue to be successful because you "do the right thing" see you again soon :-)

Great "southern"BBQ. In house made sauces. The stars here are the ribs and chicken. These guys are the real deal. All the competition banners displayed throughout the dining room are confirmation that Brian Hill is serious about his Q. Unlike a lot of wanna be BBQ joints, the guy with his name on the sign is sweating over the pit making great flavors for you. NOT PART of a chain, this is a unique old fashioned home cookin BBQ joint. Oh, the burgers are great and if you want a sandwich, get the BOSS !

We ended up at Brian's after searching for BBQ in this area. At first I was skeptical because it reminds me of a big chain place but the food ended up being great. I got the turkey lunch plate & my bf got the beef plate. Both of us enjoyed our meal. The service was a little slow but curbed our BBQ craving.

I have been going to Brian's since the 90's when it was Ryan's. I was quite disappinted today, we could not get drinks. The drinks came just before meals. Then we could not get refills. We had to send the kid at the table to go get drinks for us. The food was not the high quality that we had always come to expect. When the bill came it was all messed up. It took the waitress 3 tries just to get the bills somewhat correct. The corn was out of a can. Mac and cheese was fresh out of a box. The french fries were fresh and hot.

Popped in due to some of the reviews and not that impressed. The service was very good, salad bar offered numerous toppings but the bbq pork not that good and the brisket was a bit dry. Guessing that earlier in the day the brisket was much better I stopped in late and I am hoping that is why it was dry.

The Barbecue was fine but I dropped 1 star because both the waitress and manager told us that although we aren't the first to request it, "Brian" does not advertise on Yelp so they don't honor the check-in offer. Yelp should remove the offer but knowing that more than one customer has raised the issue with them, Brian's should make the effort to correct its Yelp entry or reconsider refusing a complimentary item for customers that use Yelp. A $4.99 order of onion rings seems an easy give to encourage repeat customers rather than telling them you know the offer exists but won't honor it.

    After traveling to Deleon Springs for a kayaking day trip we had worked up quite an appetite! Having been a Memorial Day weekend, I figured what could be more American than some BBQ! Having perused my Yelp options we decided upon Brian's. From the outside this place has some curb appeal. Nice exterior (see my pics) with the charm of some old roadsters on display with their hoods open added to the initial excitement. Inside is a charming lil country restaurant that felt clean and up to date. Although we didn't order the salad bar walking past it, it looked pretty epic ( noticed a lot of people were having it). Alright- so let's get to the food! To start they have daily specials- this was a Sunday so my other half ordered the combination platter- consisted of chicken, ribs, sliced pork and 3 sides! He liked it- the ribs are a dry rub so he was a little thrown off by that ( expecting messy ribs!) It was a lot of food! I know this cause he actually gave me one if his ribs ! ( this never happens!) I chose the pulled pork platter with two sides - Mac and cheese and baked beans ( beans were amazing!). The pork was good- leaner and not as fatty as other places I've tried. As one other reviewer raved about the garlic toast is pretty phenom. Our server, although sweet- seemed nervous and obviously new. I had the blackberry cobbler for dessert with ice cream- in a lil country place like this I deem it necessary to try the pie or cobbler- ps - it was great! Only complaint about this place? Our checkout- cashier didn't even say hello, make eye contact or ask how our meal was- nor say thanks afterwards. Fortunately, the food eclipsed this rudeness and left us with a good taste in our mouth! ( ;

I've eaten BBQ from Vegas to Kansas to Florida. After reading the reviews and the pedigree of the owner, I had my hopes high. To me, BBQ is about the ribs, the sauce, the chicken, the meat, the cole slaw and the mac n cheese. That's what I get, that's how I judge. So the ribs were good. A little dry but they didn't even need sauce. Which was good because the sauce was terrible. Ketchup based and lousy. The chicken was good. A little smokey, but not bad. I decided to get the smoke turkey and it wasn't so good. The Mac n Cheese was not good. The cole slaw was average. The prices were fine. Black Bear in Mt. Dora is better across the board on those categories. Next time we are in Deland, we will be trying one of the other 3 to 5 BBQ joints. Sorry, this was fine, but not great.

Tuesday night is steak night, the best deal in the area, friendly staff and price is right. Salad bar is one of the best around, smoked chicken salad doesn't exist anywhere else. You can tell I really like the place, different nights- different specials. Ya'll come join the bear man for dinner and maybe I'll tell you about them...

Hi guys --I am not a regular customer of Brians by any means -I eat there about once a year at best, But yesterday I was in the mood for something other then the normal places I haunt, so I went to Brians, I looked over the menu first thing I was looking at was the salad bar --but @ $10.00 for a salad you have gotta be freeking kidding--A salad guys it's lettuce, onions, fake bacon bits, and a few other cheep items so I looked at something else--I chose the brisket when it arrived it was more fat then meat-( ok I understand sometimes brisket has a good bit of fat) but it was tough, dry and taste horrid--dont know for sure but taste like it was days old and reheated. I informed the waitress of this and she offered to get me something else-so I chose the "award winning ribs" ready for something really good--but yet again I was in for disappointment --whomever gave these ribs an award needs to have their taste buds replaced-yet again dry and not good-( and she did not even bring me new hot side's--took 15 min to get the ribs so my beans & potato were cold) -I hate Sonny's BBQ but I would probably order Sonny's ribs before I would ever eat Brians again. There are far better BBQ restaurant's in DeLand then to eat this horrid mess. Go to Rachel's wing shack guys her Rib's, brisket & pulled pork are top notch, so why spend twice as much at Brian's for awful food--needless to say I shall never return to this place--2nd class restaurant with 4th class food-avoid this place or be ready to visit the doctor

We come here once a month or so for the burgers and the brisket. The John Wayne burger is massive and tasty. The bacon is smoked on-site and is out of this world. The brisket is wonderful as well. Sides are typical fare, service is good,

Food was mediocre at best. I went when it was slow on a Saturday. All the bbq was dried up, slow service and my friend got, dare I say it, moldy bread. I think that was a first for me. It looks like it was a great place in it heyday, but that's a long time ago. Save your money.

We went for the all you can eat chicken. It was great!!!! Chicken was served Hot and smoked perfectly. Service was awesome as always, fast and friendly. The price is very reasonable and way cheaper than Sonny's Bbq. Even the chickens way better here. Try it you'll see.

This is an embarrassing review, as it highlights the fact that I drive here from Orlando specifically to eat garlic bread. With that said, my passengers are always excited to visit for some delicious barbecue. The service is always wonderful when I have visited, and they do a great job of making you feel welcomed. As previously mentioned, they have THE best garlic bread in the history of all bread every created. Yum yum yum. My friends love the salad bar and the "BOSS," which is Brian's Original Steak Sandwich. Overall, this is a fun local restaurant in DeLand that has great service and great food. As far as them not accepting Yelp deals as another Yelper has expressed, this I am not sure of, as I always forget to try!!!

In Deland, FL for a dog show we found Brian's via our Yelp app. for a late night dinner. As barbecue afficinados we cook a lot of our own and we're pretty picky on barbecue restaurants. We were quite impressed by Brian's food & service...both are great! All meat is smoked over oak. The Managers are all certified Florida Barbeque Association and Kansas City Barbeque Society judges so they know what quality barbecue is! The St. Louis ribs were very meaty and perfectly cooked...when you took a bite the meat came cleanly off that spot but didn't pull off the rest of the bone...competition-worthy! The chicken was a little dry but it was the breast, after all. Dark meat would be juicier. Side dishes...collard greens and mac and cheese, were a bit pedestrian. We had cherry cobbler and apple cobbler for dessert...canned filling but pleasant enough. Thanks go to the Manager who took our order and comped us our iced teas!

  • Matt F.

Very good BBQ. My son also likes their burgers. The meat is obviously cooked over a wood fire which gives it a wonderful taste. Service is usually good and the atmosphere is classic BBQ restaurant style. One issue I did have was the sauce. This is an entirely personal preference on my part but I can't stand mustard based sauces and I'm pretty sure Brian's uses a mustard base for their sauce. I just couldn't gag it down and ate my ribs dry and frankly they were still pretty good. It they changed to a brown sugar/molassas based sauce and they'd be hard to beat.

I like the food quite a bit, and I like to order the whole smoked turkey for special occasions. The country music is too loud for my tastes, the chairs are really uncomfortable. I feel the staff sometimes tries to squeeze every nickel they can from us, though, I have ordered large turkeys, and gotten small ones (twice), and a "free dinner" was presented, and they took the cheaper meal off, Not unexpected, but still... I know, whine whine whine. I only occasionally return.

We travel regularly and always like to try local places when we can. Loved this place! Staff was very friendly, service was great, and the chicken and ribs were completely yummy! Sauces were perfectly spiced and a total complement to the meats. Highly recommend.

An AYES and NACAT Convention brought me to Seminole State College; Brian's Bar-B-Q catered the Bar-B-Q and not having southern Bar-B-Q in a long time as really looking forward to some pulled pork sandwich equal to my childhood memories. This is as close as I have had in a really long time. The sauces are mild and that's a good thing at my age however if I could have had some Frank's I would have added it , I'd be paying for it right now. Very good set up and flavor.

Good bbq, not the greatest I've ever had, but a good smoke taste to the brisket, sliced super thin. Good sides, I had the collard greens and beans. Both of which tasted fresshly made. Cool decor, if I eat there again I plan on having the ribs because they seem like they sell more of them (given by what I saw the other customers getting) than all the other plates combined.

    (4)
  • Courtney R.

This would be a 5 star, but their bbq sauce tastes more like flavored ketchup. I've had a few things on the menu and haven't been disappointed. The sliced turkey is the juiciest, most flavorful that I've ever had (doesn't even need sauce, which is good). You have to try the chicken salad. They use chunks of smoked chicken...to die for.

Great place! We had great service, great food. Onion rings and sweet potato fries were amazing! Spent a $110 for 5 kids and 5 adults! Way worth it. They give out coupons for your birthday. Had huge to go cups! This place was AMAZING! Definitely a go

Service from our waitress and the price are the only saving grace. Simply put, the food was terrible. Ribs had decent flavor but were too chewy. Not the tender, fall off the bone, ribs one would expect, if this is their specialty. The beef brisket was unlike anything else I have ever had. It was like eating thin steak slices, not slices of beef from a brisket cooked all day. The 1/4 chicken included was dry. Perhaps the almost empty parking lot at 7 pm on a Sunday night should have been a clue.

Good stuff. I'm sorry I left one star OPEN but there is always room for growth and I have yet to feast Texas BBQ but Brian's was surprisingly good as I usually don't eat BBQ. And the only other instance I ate at a BBQ RESTAURANT was Sonny's and they're alright. Homemade BBQ sauce good. Coleslaw, potato salad, garlic bread, check check check REAL GOOD! Steak fries taste like fries (don't they all?)! Overall I enjoyed my flavorful grilled chicken with BBQ sauce dinner. And I am a STIFLER for chicken that doesn't taste dry below the skin. I HIGHLY recommend this BBQ restaurant. Update: I had leftover potato salad and cole slaw, WOW YUM YUM! This is definitely a hidden TREASURE in Deland!

Brian's is DeLand's hometown barbecue restaurant and has been for about as long as I can remember. I've had barbecue all up and down the east coast and this is still the best I have ever had. Brian's is a great place to take the family, with its casual atmosphere and Western decor. The place gets crowded for dinner, especially during the nights with good specials, and lunch draws a big crowd as well. Wednesdays and thursdays are the nights to hit the place, as the specials those nights are all you can eat chicken and ribs, respectively. Everything on the menu is great, but the chicken and ribs are the standouts (it's not just my opinion; they have won state barbecue cookoffs in both categories). The salad bar is a must with any meal, try their potato salad and their smoked chicken salad, which are the real gems. Their steaks are up to par, but the reason to go there is good, old fashioned, slow-cooked barbecue. Their ribs are smothered with a homemade rub then slow cooked for hours to produce that sweet, smoky flavor that everyone loves. They serve them without sauce, which you don't need since the rub is so flavorful, but if you so choose, their house sauces (they have 3 or 4) add great flavor to everything. The barbecue chicken is great, fall-off-the-bone tender and perfectly smoky. Don't forget to order the sweet tea with whatever you get. Come a little before peak crowd hours, and come hungry.

He liked it- the ribs are a dry rub so he was a little thrown off by that ( expecting messy ribs!) It was a lot of food! I know this cause he actually gave me one if his ribs ! ( this never happens!) I chose the pulled pork platter with two sides - Mac and cheese and baked beans ( beans were amazing!). The pork was good- leaner and not as fatty as other places I've tried. As one other reviewer raved about the garlic toast is pretty phenom. Our server, although sweet- seemed nervous and obviously new. I had the blackberry cobbler for dessert with ice cream- in a lil country place like this I deem it necessary to try the pie or cobbler- ps - it was great! Only complaint about this place? Our checkout- cashier didn't even say hello, make eye contact or ask how our meal was- nor say thanks afterwards. Fortunately, the food eclipsed this rudeness and left us with a good taste in our mouth! ( ;
