Anytime a place puts a warm pastry in front of me as soon as I sit down, you know it's going to be great. I rarely eat sweets but it was worth every calorie. This is a locals place. Waitresses call people by name and ask if they want the usual. Man behind me told his waitress not to worry about him he was going out of town for a month. Lots of seniors and the owner has to have history in a New York deli at some point. Breakfast was great, service was great and the prices are great. Be warned, you have to walk through the bakery to get a table. Calories abound!!

Since 1957 owned by the same family. The family name is "grandpa's". The food: First they have a great bakery. The menu all your comfort food favorites. 15 -20 specials, turkey, salmon, prime rib, stuffed shells. Good soups and a wonderful thick chile. Fresh bread on the table with cinnamon buns. Had an enormous order of stuffed shells. Loaded with cheese and a rich tomato sauce. Excellent. Also a must stop for breakfast You could catch an episode of "Drive ins diners and dives" featuring Grandpa's . As a bonus your 50 yards from Jaxson's ice cream.

Damn man damn that is a lot of food. Came on a busy Sunday. Waited in line less than 10 minutes to get a table. After ordering they brought out complimentary danish. Holy crap, this could be a meal in itself. I got the country fried steak with eggs, hashbrowns and a biscuit which was pretty good and was a very large portion. Struggled to eat it all. The place has a lot of seating and they are very efficient so it flows quickly.

As a bakery and restaurant owner, I am sorry and saddened to see such a wonderful establishment fail to meet even some minimal standards. 1) The bakery displays are in a terrible mess, the pastry items are displayed with such lack of care, it makes everything look un-edible. 2) The presentation of each item is done with such minimal lack-luster, it doesn't even matter the cost or the taste or the heritage of this establishment. It just shows they don't care. 3) The restaurant smells old, it should smell like a bakery, like butter on the grill or sugar caramelizing or bread rising... nope smells old and dirty. The pastry items... 1) Despite the above, i ordered a cannoli to go. Bleh, no taste, not sweet, not rich, not anything. The chocolate chips they use are bland. The filling has too much shortening in it. The shell was crisp, but had no flavor. 2) Despite the above and the above, i also ordered a carrot cake. It appears to have actual carrot cake, actual walnuts and was light and just slightly sweet. But the frosting and layered filling was gross, too much shortening and no body of taste. The staff. 1) Quick and attentive, friendly happy smiling faces... So why are they torturing the displays? 2) Clearly enough staff behind the counter, got to me quick, boxed everything up nicely, tape, ticket, go.... perfectly executed for what might some day be a very busy place, but I doubt this place gets busy anymore. The quality of product sucks. The displays. Again, as an owner of a pastry shop, desserts and pastry are pure indulgence and impulsive purchases. The use of a jelly roll tray to simply heap cookies onto it does not count as merchandising food. Slamming a ton of items into a tray in some disorganized manner is just wrong. Not sure what the draw is to this place, but I hope they can get their act together.

Went here for the Friday office lunch. It was crowded, no parking available in front we had to park across the street. We got the last available booth by the window. The menu is quite extensive, it took a few minutes to read everything, In addition the waitress left a paper with the daily specials. It all looked really good, I had a hard time deciding what to order. My friend ordered one of her favorite sandwiches - the rueben. She said it was one of the best ones she has ever had. She was impressed that they actually heat up the sauerkraut. They make the corned beef themselves, it was perfectly cooked not dry or leathery. I ordered the homemade meatball sub with cheese. The bread is baked there fresh, and the meatballs were very good. Tomato sauce was good so the combination of all 3 made for a very tasty sub. The waitress was attentive and provided great service. The bakery is up front, so on the way out my friend decided to take a piece of carrot cake back to the office. The rest of the desserts looked really tempting, especially the red velvet cupcakes. I had to use all my will power not to take a few of those home. It was a great experience, I had forgotten that this place was here! We will definitely go back in the near future.

I visited this place for breakfast one Sunday morning. We came based on their appearance on the Food Network channel. This place is super busy and noisy. I ordered the biscuits with gravy which were just ok. My wife had waffles and again, they were just fine. The complimentary cinnamon buns were nice and warm. Other than this, just a regular breakfast place.

Free pastries when you sit down, guys. If that doesn't get you to want to come here then I'll continue writing... Grampa's is a great little (it's actually pretty big) spot. I love a diner so I knew I'd be a fan, but even I was kind of blown away at how good this place way. You know how most diners have that diner attitude or, "charm"? Well this place doesn't. Everyone is so friendly. I drink a lot when I eat and my cup was full the entire visit. At one point, the waitress actually brought me two glasses of iced tea at once and of course I drank them both. You can't go there and not get the rye toast. It's pretty amazing. There is plenty of seating for large or small groups. Even on a busy weekend your food will arrive pretty quickly. They do warn that things may come out not all at once, but that's no biggie to me. Parking can be an issue because the lot is small so you have to find some street parking, but even taking an extra five or ten to park it's still worth going here. I'm still full from this place and I went weeks ago! No matter what you go with on the menu you'll be pleased and like I said, FREE PASTRIES!

Guy Fieri may be a jolly and pleasantly plump restaurateur, but he sure made a BIG mistake in choosing to go to Grampa's Bakery & Restaurant and feature it on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. A friend of mine boasted about how their free breakfast danishes were amazing, so we went on a Sunday at noon to check it out. When we arrived, there was a line to be seated. The line area was narrow and wrapped around the cash register and bakery... it reminded me of standing in line at Disney World. After waiting in line 25 minutes we were seated. Our waitress - who was an 85 year-old granny - came to our table to ask one person for their drink order. She literally took one persons drink order and walked away. She didn't even acknowledge there was anyone else sitting at the table. So I thought to myself" okay, the poor woman is old so she probably needs glasses to see." She comes back almost 10 minutes later to take the rest of our drink orders... so I thought wrong because she can SEE -O-O- . My friend asked her if she could bring the breakfast danishes and she told us they were being made and that the danishes would take 20 minutes and then she left. For being an old lady, she was pretty fast... she always managed to disappear when we looked down at our menus for a split second to order. About 15 minutes passes and we see tables arrive after us receive their breakfast danishes before us. Finally the Granny server brought us our danishes and took our orders. The danishes were delicious, so I then thought to myself, "despite the service, the food SHOULD be delicious too!" Boy was I wrong... My breakfast sandwich (bacon, egg and bread) came out and they put sausage instead of bacon... so I asked the food runner to bring me bacon, which he did in a jiff!! My husband ordered pancakes and they were completely RAW!!! With the first cut down the middle, runny pancake mix dripped out and around his plate. Our Granny server was nowhere to be found... she seriously disappeared so my husband had to ask another server to send back his pancakes. Three of us had already finished eating when my husband's pancakes arrived. Luckily this time his pancakes were cooked just right . The Granny server brought our check and had mistakenly charged an extra coffee on our bill. We went to the cashier to pay (you pay on the way out, not your waiter), and told the Granny cashier to remove the coffee which she did. However, when the other couple we went with tipped $1.50 on $25 because of the horrible service, the Granny cashier had the nerve to question them why they were leaving such a small tip amount... she seriously said, "You are going to leave $1.50 on a $25 bill? That's not right." We explained to her about the terrible service, mixed up orders, raw pancakes (which we were still charged for), spilled coffee (yes, our Granny cashier spilled coffee on us and our table every time she served a refill) and the long wait... the Granny server looked at us and said, "Well you should at least leave the minimum 15%." At that point, we just about had it with Grampa's. If Grampa's wants to stay in business he should fire his granny friends and hire younger, smarter and attentive servers and cooks. I seriously don't know how Guy Fieri chose to feature this place on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives when it has a 2.5 out of 5 rating on the Food Network website. Oh and parking is awful! There are only a handful of spots in front of the restaurant, so be prepared to park your car a block down the street in front of some ghetto apartment buildings. Grampa's = TERRIBLE service and blah food (when it comes out cooked). I would rather go to Denny's and Ihop than pay a visit to Grampa's again.

We were in the area, just leaving FLL and seeking a quick bite and some coffee for breakfast... Soooo we stopped into this place... We leaned that it was featured on DDD and we can see why... As soon as we walked in the door, we were greeted and made to feel like we were at home. Extremely friendly service! As soon as we sat down, the server brought us a plate of pastries fresh out of the oven and these were some of the BEST EVER! They are also complimentary! WOW! The coffee was also nicely done and those two together would have made a great breakfast, but we decided to order food from the menu at the same time. The food that came out was in HUGE portions! We couldn't even begin to finish more than half of it, but it was definitely fresh and very well prepared! Biscuits are really nice, fluffy and tasty! Gravy to go on the biscuits was tasty and nicely done as well. We just found our new spot to hit when we fly into town!!

Really cute diner. 4 1/2 stars. GraMpa's has a competitor by the name GraNDpa's so beware when searching on Yelp. I came here twice since seeing the DDD (Diners,Drive Ins and Dives) with Guy Fieri and knowing I had to try the complimentary cinnamon buns :) The first time was Mother's Day, and it was busy - The earlier you come to Grampa's the less chance there is of a wait in line, plenty of empty seats. The seating consists of booths along the sides, and many tables close by N.Y.style Walking in, pastry cases filled with all kinds of desserts, counter seating, cash registers with Guy Fieri books beside it, and framed posters on the wall. The waitresses are very friendly. They start you off with hot coffee and complimentary Danishes. It's "finger food" so no sharing plates, I used the napkin. - I just found out the cinnamon pastries are complimentary ONLY on Sundays, and can be ordered any day of the week, so we paid for it today. First time I ordered the Reuben Sandwich. It was delish! Toasted marble rye with butter, pastrami, sour kraut, cheese all melted together in perfect harmony. Really a yummy sandwich, and is worth the higher price than at a sub shop. This time around I ordered breakfast like everyone else at the table. I got the Two, two, two breakfast, which I read in Yelp reviews, yet I didn't see on the menu. It's two eggs how you like, bacon or sausage, and two giant fluffy tasty pancakes, with light crust, so good. Only thing missing is an option for real maple syrup, instead - it's choice of Log Cabin. My eggs were sunny side up and they had a crispness to the bottom of the eggs, I asked for crispy bacon (there were 3 pieces), and like I said the awesome pancakes. My husband ordered two eggs over easy, crispy bacon and hash browns.. - note if you like crispy hash browns, ask for it, otherwise they come out white shredded potatoes. Other family members ordered omelettes, they come with 2 large pieces of toast, most had multigrain, and has butter on the side. - Lots of leftover bread by the end of breakfast Leftover bacon too..My cousin ordered a side of bacon, and she got a tower of bacon, passed the bacon around the table, and still was leftover. Nice American breakfast in hearty portions, come hungry, and with an appetite. The bill for 8 people came to 117$ before tip, so expect to pay just over 15$ / person which is very well priced for the food, bottomless coffee, and warm waitresses. I'll be back again

I'll probably never come back here. We waited for 20 minutes to sit. Our server was pretty spacey. He kept forgetting to bring us things. It took over an hour for two breakfast orders. They ended up covering our entire bill and as we were leaving I heard him offer it to the table behind us too. I don't like cinnamon buns, but they leave you some on the table when you sit and they were pretty tasty.

In my opinion this place can get away with charging what it does for breakfast because Guy Fieri's face is on the door. Is it good? Of course. Do I bring family here when they are visiting? Absolutely. But it is not a place I frequent often as a local, strictly because it charges those "special occasion" type prices. The food is really good, don't get me wrong. I have only been in for breakfast and their special is always the Eggs Benedict and it is quite tasty. They serve delicious warm pastries when you sit down, which most of the time I fill up on and cannot finish my breakfast. The staff is always moving quickly to try to turn and burn tables, especially on a busy weekend morning. I have never waited more than 10 minutes for a table so they are good at opening up spots. Parking is sometimes a hassle as there are only a few spots out front - you may have to park around the corner. Overall, the breakfast and pastries are good and worth a stop, especially since its a bit of a landmark in the Dania area being on triple D.

If you're looking for a throwback old school bakery/diner in the Dania beach area look no further! Comfort food, fast friendly service, and delicious bakery all in one! This place was featured on guy fieri's food network show and has received countless local awards and has been around for quite a while, so they must be doing something right! For starters whenever you order any of the breakfast items they bring out a complimentary Danish pastry which is sweet, cinnamony, baked deliciousness. Then we got our orders, they were made perfectly and quickly which was great because we were hungry! I got the western omelet which is an omelet with peppers, cheese, onions and ham. While my brother got an egg sandwich which they serve on a Keizer roll that they actually make/bake there! Next time I come I'd like to try more of the baked goods, the country fried steak, and the lamb shank!

These guys give you a free plate of Danish regardless of what you order for breakfast. Good thing you can sit at counter because it's crowded in the weekends. Good Danish and baked goods but not overly thrilled with breakfast itself.

This was the perfect spot to hit on a morning after a fun late night out. We were beat, and hungry. I had wanted to try this spot for a long time because the pics of the food looked like something both Hubby and I would enjoy. I was right. We struggled trying to decide what to order though. I wanted to get a waffle with strawberries, but my conscience wouldn't allow it. I had to get my protein, so I ordered the 2-2-2 special. I figured I would get the best of both worlds. I would get my protein with the eggs and bacon (mmmm bacon) and then I could satisfy my sweet tooth with the pancakes. Pancakes are usually a bad idea when dining out (in my experience) as they seem to be leathery and heavy lumps. Not here. These cakes were light and fluffy, despite their large size. Just delicious. Another thing, something as traditional as eggs and bacon are also easy for places to mess up. Again, here, they cooked them just right. We like over-easy eggs and that's what they gave us. The bacon wasn't burnt to a crisp unlike another place we went to recently did. We both pretty much inhaled our food. I was actually astonished at how much I ate, and how much was left still after eating. The place was pretty busy too for Friday morning, so that says something to me. People like this place for a reason. I don't believe I saw the DDD segment on Grampa's, but I can understand why this would be a DDD destination. I was tempted to grab one of the pies on the way out, as they looked awesome. However, a little detox is in order after the last couple days. One important final note. I looked up the place from memory, and I didn't realize there is another place not too far from here with the name, Grandpa's. I even mistakenly checked in there. This is a different place, so if you see this review, and want to try Grampa's, make your you select Grampa's with an "M!"

OH BOY! Stopped here on National Donut Day and tried the glazed donut filled with buttercream. OH MY GOSH. Was SOOO delicious and the thing was huge! Can't wait to come back for a full meal and indulge in the sticky buns as an appetizer. Good move recommending this place, Guy Fieri! Still dreaming about that buttercream. :-D

Visiting from California and stopped by Grandpa's. FANTASTIC food and OUTSTANDING service! We mistakenly left my son's (who has autism) noise canceling headphones in the taxi and the manager made several calls, even checking security cameras to track down the taxi company. Went way beyond the call of duty! Nice people here and that's not even mentioning the mouthwatering pastries they give you when you sit down! The food is just the best you can get!

My parents have lived in South Florida for years. I grew up there and we never knew about this place. We first learned about it from the Food Network Show, Diners Drive-ins and Dives. We had to try it. When you first get there, you quickly discover that the parking can be a tad rough. My suggestion is drop someone off to wait in line and then find a spot to park. They don't really take names or have a waiting area. You basically stand in line and when its your turn, you wait till they can seat you. We have never waited more than 20 minutes. While you wait in line, they entice you with all these beautiful looking desserts and pastries and cookies. Everything seems to move quickly and once you are seated you usually have a waitress jumping over for your drinks, followed closely by this wonderful cinnamon pastry coffee cake. The menu is your place mat but it is huge, with lots to choose from. We usually go for breakfast, I think it is best for that. I would definitely recommend the omelets. They are huge and to much to finish. Once again, the food comes out really quick. It can be hard to get the attention of the waitress because they are so busy. SO if you need something grab anyone or tell your waitress everything you need at once. Sundays after church starts to get out, it gets really busy and once again there really isn't any place to sit and wait. Its best to get there early. I wouldn't call this a 5 star establishment but its definitely worth a try. Breakfast is best in my opinion. The staff is usually pretty nice and pleasant and everything does usually come out really quick.

So I came here recommended by my girlfriends sister. She said it was awesome and it was visited by Guy Fierri. So we decided to come here this morning to try it out. We arrived and found parking immediately. We told the hostess that we were 6 but the two were on their way. She asked how long were the other to, which I was shocked she asked but told her a few minutes so she seated us. We sat and got water and coffee around the table. I asked for a mimosa which took 10 minutes. We got those famous Danish for the table which were pretty good. We asked the waitress to see if there was a combo breakfast sampler but she said they only do that Monday-Friday Saturday and Sunday they thru al la carte which pissed me off. They do that so your bill is more money. Whatever we ordered what we ordered. We ordered biscuits and gravy for the table as an appetizer which never came until we got all our food. We got our breakfast but never got our toast. We ordered chicken tenders for our nephew which he never got, the waitress said they gave it to another table. The food was not out of this world I could of cooked it better at home. The food was late. Service was good but overall I will not come back to this place.

After hearing for years about this place I finally had breakfast there. The decor is older and diner like. They do not take reservations you just wait in line until it's your turn. We went in on a Sunday around 11am and waited around 25 minutes to be seated, not too bad. When you walk in you see all the pastries displayed. They have all kinds of cookies, cakes, pies, sweets etc... When you're finally seated they bring you this warm delicious pastry on the house which for me was the best part of my meal. I ordered the western omelette with hash browns and a biscuit. My food was good nothing that would make me come back for their omelette. I do think the omelette could have had more veggies and ham since those were the ingredients it included which in my opinion they skimped on and also more flavor. My friends got the steak and eggs, tuna melt, and reuben sandwich which they liked but I didn't try. The service was slow because they're very busy but friendly and attentive. Our waters and coffee were refilled a couple times. Keep in mind the portions are huge! There's something about this place that people flock to for...I didn't experience it but I'm willing to go back and find out what it is.

We arrived to Grampas and the line was 25 deep without any check in procedure. You basically had to form a line in a very small bakery / check out area. Our party of 6 was seated iin about 30 mintues and our drinks were served right away. My youngest never fails to order eggs benny where ever we go and was quick to say not enough hollandaise and the sauce was also runny and bland. My son ordered the Rachel and gave it an ok rating nothing special and found bread to be soggy. I ordered the Corn Beef hash and eggs because thats my go to breakfast and because someone in line was raving about them. Having eaten Corned Beef Hash across the country in my travels I found it to be the typical canned hash you find anywhere no big deal at all. My son and I split an order of biscuits and gravy and the sausage gravy was just perfect with a nice touch of seasoning the plate couldve fed 6 easily. My daughter had basic scramble eggs and bacon she complained the eggs were cold. Wife had basic bacon and egg sandwich and would only say it was fine. My daughters friend ordered chicken fingers and fries and enjoyed it very much especially the fries. Overall the restaurant was nicley laid out and had a great feel. The service was great and the people were very friendly. I gave a 2 rating because the food was far from epic and all of us felt you could find food like this anywhere and most likely cheaper. DDD disappointment

My original review meant for here posted incorrectly 2 months ago--- I'm gonna recommend a pass if you're considering this place! I am a big fan of diners/greasy spoon places, especially for breakfast. Add bakery in the name and I'm sold, so I really wanted to like this place. As the kids say...MEH... The service, as most have said, is sub par. It was busy and we were seated quickly but our waitress never cracked a smile and would walk away while we were still talking. But she did bring a FREE little plate of fresh pastries when we sat down! I had a Belgian Waffle with 'fresh strawberries' and whipped cream, the waffle was flat and tasteless and smothered in fake whip and the strawberries were mostly fresh. Hubby had breakfast with a side of grits and biscuits and gravy. His hash browns never came and the biscuit (singular) came well into the meal. Bacon was ultra greasy and had a strange taste. I would give 2 stars but the sweet tea was delicious, the bakery selection all looked really yummy and FREE pastries!!!!!

I have watched this restaurant on the food guy from the food network and just had to come see for myself. The name speaks for itself it was really just a good old-fashioned down-home restaurant. It had a lot of traffic for the day I visited it on Sunday morning and they were giving out free samples of donuts and other sweet rolls while you waited. The staff was very courteous and the food was quite tasty. It was a lot more food then I was able to consume but worth every penny of it. The location of the restaurant seems to be in a good place where it was able to get a lot of foot traffic and the cleanliness on the inside was very impressive to me. That was parking within the area of the restaurant so that was really not a big issue, and the temperature on the inside was well-maintained. To all my friends and reviewers take a moment out to visit this place I don't think you will regret it.

I would give it zero stars if possible. The food was okay. The service was absolutely HORRIBLE. Our waitress was tremendously rude. She was extremely impatient for us to place our order. Then when someone at our table asked for a glass of water, she allowed over twenty minutes to go by without bringing it. So eventually, someone else at our table asked for the water, hoping she would be reminded and bring it. Instead, she rudely said "I know, she already asked me that." When it was time to pay at the register, the cashier asked if I was leaving a tip on my card. So I asked her to put $5 tip, to which she replied "five dollars for tip?!" in an outraged manner. After confirming that that is how much tip I'd like to give, she shook her head and made a face to other customers, looking for their agreement. I honestly regret going there. I recommend spending your time and money somewhere else, where you'll actually be respected.

Wow... loved this place! We got here around 8:30an on a Saturday and seated ourselves. We were greeted by a sweet waitress with coffee right away (love that) she told us the specials and then brought us the famous complimentary pastries. They are warm little bites of yumminess. We both ordered the breakfast specials, eggs benedict and country fried steak. My eggs were cooked perfectly with a double thick slice of canadian bacon and a perfect light and creamy hollandaise sauce. So YUMM! My husband ordered the country fried steak. It's one of his favorites. He says it tasted homemade, a thick piece of steak with a light crispy breading and covered with delicious gravy. Yumm x 2! Wished I'd asked for the hash browns crispy but I will next time. Cute grandmas kitchen decor and clean too. Top notch service with smiles and happy attitudes made it a pleasure to eat here. We will definitely be dining here more often!!

We were looking for a spot near the airport after an early morning race and I scoped out Grampa's. It had some mixed reviews, but I am certainly always down for a greasy spoon after I've burned a moderate amount of calories, and luckily everyone agreed to check out this spot. Thankfully, Ashley & Fernando got to Grampa's quickly because there was a line by the time we arrived. We were sat and some waiters came over with waters, then a bit slower followed the coffee, then a few more friends arrived and our waitress came over. I was thinking this well, I guess this isn't the place anyone should be in a hurry. They were packed so I didn't think much about a slight delay and actually that was end of any delay! Once our shining star of a waitress showed up, she was nothing but on point. Boom have some complimentary pastries on the double. Oh, you thirsty Andy?? Here's a double sweet tea order just for you. Oh Big Dave just sat down, here's another plate of complimentary pastries. Boom - more coffee, boom - chocolate milk, OJ, here's all your food, who wants more?? And just like that, our table was packed full of everything we ordered. The toast followed behind but was there by the time I had properly doused my hashbrowns in ketchup and salt & pep. Big shout out for the rye toast - you gotta love a spot with rye toast! It ordered the special (which is my new practice to always go with the special) of Country Fried Steak & Gravy with Eggs and hashbrowns. It was freaking awesome!! This is legit gravy, no can mess here. Living in south Florida, this Georgia girl misses me some fried steak and gravy, but Grampa's did not disappoint. It was only after we finished eating that I found out the main cook was a Georgia boy himself!! That's why you always go with the specials Yelps. I'll definitely be back to Grampa's when in Dania Beach or nearby on any morning and hopefully save some room to try some of the delicious pastries in the case!

This rating is not in comparison to some of the previously reviewed fine dining restaurants. This review is rating it as a diner and with that in mind, it's a great diner! Prior to our meal, they gave us the most amazing sticky rolls complimentary! Our server couldn't have been more kind! I ordered a mimosa, which was made with fresh squeezed OJ! Yummy! I ordered a meal that I will call "Thanksgiving dinner." Turkey, corn, stuffing, mashed potatoes and cranberry jam. There is only one thing you will be able to do after this meal....sleep! I wouldn't say that I am much of a "diner" gal, but my hubby really wanted to go to a place on the DDD show and I am glad we did! It feels nice and homey and throw-back-ish!

come for food, stay for the free danishes. we always seem to stop here when we're in the area during breakfast time. the food is ok, typical diner food, all the old classics are on the menu. prices are a little high, but you get free danishes, how can you say no?! they really are the best part of the place, they even cater!

Love this place ! It's a classic diner in my awesome little neighborhood of Dania beach ! Only thing is making the line to get a table if you go on the weekend btw 8-10 ! But it's all worth it ! At the start of your meal they give you a sweet cheese Danish w your coffee . I love mom and pop places because they still have that classic style of service , where the waitresses still call you Hun and you feel like you're visiting Mel's diner from that classic show back in the day ! They have specials so don't forget to check the board to see what's cooking . Love it !

The best down home family restaurant with all the old time Grandparents dishes, Our choices were: corned beef & cabbage, pastrami cooked to mouth watering perfection. The portions are so huge but the desserts were too tempting. So we ate 1/2 of our meal (and a G-Parents) gave ourselves permission to split a dessert. We'll one loves chocolate and the other, peach cobbler said it IS calling his name, so both desserts arrived SO... (eat 1/2 now take the other half home with our dinner left overs) While we smiled with our bellies so full, sipping on the last remains of our never ending glass of real down home Sweet tea , we delighted in memories of those days gone past, with cousins, Parents and Grandparents; on any given Sunday after church, we gathered together for homecooked food gatherings. This is the best with the friendly staff who all made me feel Our REAL Auntie just served us our most heartwarming meal. THANKS Auntie G. Check out the homemade bakery as you exit! I bet ya can't resist, just "one" to take home!

I am a big fan of Grampa's. When yelp prompted me to write a review I was shocked that I hadn't already with all of my many visits there whenever I am in Ft Lauderdale! I know I check in there so everyone knows to buy up a size for my next birthday... This place was featured on Diners Dives and Drive Inns (did I get that right?). Anyway, it is easy to see why when you're there. The pastry basket, the huge portions, the lamb shank! I gained a pound just now thinking about my favorite Ft Lauderdale dive. The waitresses have been there since J.Edgar was in the Whitehouse. So have the booths, tables and chairs. But the place is always packed and everyone is crazy friendly. Believe me, "crazy friendly" isn't in abundance in Ft Lauderdale.

Love the food and the service. Have a reason to go back. The cinnamon danish they give you to start with is not only the best I've eaten, but as well is abundant; freshly made and delicious. The amounts of food you get served is so much that you most likely will have to take a box home with you; hard to finish it all. Definitely recommend it.

Worst triple D's ever! Guy Fieri missed the mark here! Dry french toast, horrible service with rude waitress! Omlette very mediocre! And they are a bakery, the toast was stone cold! Stay away!

Visited today. Service was good, place was clean, customers were nice, food was good. One problem: coffee cup had dried food on rim. Plates were dirty. I did not complain because I did not feel comfortable complaining. I looked at health dept report and they received 3 violations on 4-17-2015 for food contact surfaces of equipment and utensils (not) clean. I do not know if this violation has anything to do with dishes. I can only cite my own personal experience.

Will not be visiting again. The foul older lady at the front desk, ruined my experience from the point of showing up, til the time i left. My brunch group has visited Grampas several times over the last few years. This past Sunday, July 19th, has been the worse ever!!!! Will never go to again!

Horrible service. Went there one week ago and had breakfast with my friend. As we were finished the waitress asked us if we were done (in a way to make us feel we had to leave) we proceeded to talk, then a bus boy came by 2 minutes after the waitress had and acted like he needed to clear our already empty table. He want back to the waitress and they watched as....she was trying her hardest to make us leave. Worst feeling ever to be rushed out as if we didn't just purchase breakfast. Then my family came back today (mistake) we had a different waiter and the service was just as bad. They sat my dad but wouldn't even take his drink order until my husband and I arrived. Then we were asked our orders he rushed us and would try to move on to the next person when the first person didn't even complete the order. My husbands orange juice was terrible when he tried to return it they took it back but left it on the bill! Our toast came out 20 minutes before our food. We felt rushed and as though a burden to the waiter. My husband and I used to love coming for the food and today he said "babe we are never coming back" The service is horrible! We have had too many bad experiences with different waiters and waitresses!

Dining experience was on Sunday around brunch. Very busy. Our waitress acknowledged us, but was quite busy. She was polite and brought fresh baked cinnamon buns. Yum! Our order included 2 pancakes ($5.99) 2 eggs, 2 bacon, coffee, and an order of club sandwich for $12.99. Coffee was not all that great. But their breakfast signatures were good. Pancakes were fluffy, bacon not too greasy. My club was ok with fries. Service is good. Stick to breakfast items. Not sure about all the hype.

It took over an hour to get our meals and the diner was not even busy. To crown that my wife had to send back her food as it was not cooked properly. Both the scallops and shrimp were raw on the inside. That took another 10 minutes. Other notes, there was food on the floor around a number of tables. Just too sloppy, we were told that they were busy and short handed.

Ehh. Saturday around 11. Was crowded. Staff seem flustered. Ordered a tuna sandwich...not bad, not great. Large though. My wife, kids and grandma go here and seem to like it, especially as the kids would get a big cupcake with the kids meal......or at least used to....and only if you order lunch on the kids menu (not the breakfast). I'll let them have their tradition...was just ok to me

Guy Fieri's a douche bag. Not that it has anything to do with my review, except he featured Grandpa's on his show and it had to be said. But I digress. If you're a fan of great deli food or incredible baked goods, then eat here before you die and go to Heaven. The Pastrami and Corned Beef in Heaven, however, will be a disappointment.

We arrived at the Grampa's Bakery & Restaurant at 3pm. We were rushed to order as soon as we sat down at our table. Our waitress said "You have to order now because we are closing soon." I quickly glanced at the menu and ordered the Patty Melt. After our waitress took our orders, i went on Yelp to check their hours of operation, which was 8am-4pm. I was a little disappointed at this point because I felt unwelcomed and rushed, even though there was still one hour of operation left. A few minutes later, we received complimentary pastries, which was unexpected and pretty yummy. While we waited for our food, We noticed that the bus boys were rushing the other customers. They were also making rude hand gestures. One of the older bus boys (should of jotted his name down) made an extremely rude comment, "LET'S GET THIS SHIT DONE," loud enough for everyone to hear. From this point on, I felt very offended as a paying customer. This was around 3:20pm. We received our food shortly after that. My aunt had ordered the caesar salad, which brings croutons. The croutons were not added in the salad, so my aunt pointed it out to the waitress. She quickly responded as my aunt was speaking, denying that the croutons came in the salad, until my aunt had pointed it out on the menu. She then said she'd bring it over. As we were eating our food, the bus boys kept making countless of rude comments and eyeing the customers. This was around 3:40pm. We went to the cashier to pay our check, but noticed the goodies at the bakery. Unfortunately, even the lady serving us at the bakery acted very unpleasant. We ended buying a few treats. Overall, the food is okay/good, but the customer service is poor. I am very disappointed because I selectively chose to dine in at Grampa's because of their great Yelp reviews. I've never experienced/felt such disrespect from a business. It's safe to say that we will not be coming back here. I suggest that the manager(s)/owner advice the employees in better/RESPECTFUL customer service.

The bakery speaks for itself . When do sugar or sweets fail to please anyone. Aside ftom their delish complimentary danish treats, I ordered a bagel w/salmon. Which was really salty, but that could just be the brand of deli packed salmon they use. Nothing out of the ordinary. It's def a locals favorite.

Place seems cute but we found a rubber band in our food & now I'm dealing with food poisoning from the turkey club sandwich. Should've never eaten there. Regrets. :( Aside from that the food wasn't that great. The homemade pickles weren't that great and the homemade rolls & sticky buns were just blah. We were excited to try the homemade stuff, but were unimpressed.

As we are new to town, we looked up and down Yelp and Urban Spoon to try to find a breakfast place this morning. This place came across with 100's of good reviews and I recalled wanting to stop there once before coming back from the airport. It's on the way right on US 1 if you're headed to Hollywood (or south all together) from the airport! Have someone in your party go in and wait in line while you park. It is a diner, has a diner feel, diner decor and a diner attitude! I loved it. If that's not your thing then you may get offended by the attitude of the place. I find it fitting and perfect. It is a well oiled machine. It is quick and worth the wait. It was slammed when we went in today- 11:30a Monday afternoon of labor day. We waited in line probably 10-15 minutes. Every table was full and as we moved up in line more people piled in behind us! We drooled over all the pastries as we waited in line. It's a good sign when it's packed and people are still waiting to get in. As we sat down, we were given complimentary cherry/cheese Danishes and coffee right away which I appreciated and then waters all around. Our waitress had a very blunt attitude which we found hysterical at times!! I mean she was busy and the attitude fit her. One in our group was a little indecisive and the waitress said "ok, I gotta go, I have a large omelet coming up". She stayed to collect our orders but as soon she left the table we died laughing!! Life is all in how you take it. Our whole group loved the food. We ordered an omelet with bacon/tomato/sauteed peppers/chedder with a side of hashbrowns, a sausage and egg sandwich, and a tuna melt. The tune melt was very large(took half to go) and so was the omelet. We never had an empty coffee or water. My omelet was large and full of toppings. The tuna melt was also delicious. We ordered cheese Danishes and cookies to take home for tomorrow. I highly recommend this place and we will be back! It is wheelchair accessible and they have booths and seated tables.

I would've given 5 but they mixed up our order of spinach omelette for broccoli (which actually turned out to be way better!) and our hash browns were burnt (but replaced incredibly fast). Overall an awesome breakfast spot with super friendly staff and complimentary cinnamon strips!

My husband and I both ordered omelettes, they were great. Not too much of anything the portions in the omelette was great. I personally dislike it when my omelette is drowning in either cheese or overloaded with spinach. The best was the complimentary Danish....it was delicious. The server was attentive and polite. Overall the food and pastry were great. The downside, the awkward line while waiting for a table, the hostess was attentive but the line has one standing inside directly in front of the bakery counter display. I'm a fan and will return when I'm in town again.

Can only speak to the bakery aspect, which was good, but whoaaa that price! $3.50 for an Elephant's Ear. A friend and I stopped by on a Wednesday afternoon to just check out the bakery, and get some desserts. I would have ended up getting a lot more because it looked good, but when the waitress told me the price, I settled to just try something. I will say that the Elephant's Ear I had was pretty good, very flavorful and sweet. Only thing was that it was almost too hard, and too difficult to break it apart without it shattering into a million crumbs. Grampa's loves to promote that Guy Fieri was there, you can't miss it if you at this place. While I'm a big fan of the show he does, it kind of makes the place a bit gimmicky that Guy Fieri is plastered all over the place and they sell his books there. I'm not saying they shouldn't be proud, just tone it down a bit. I'd come back to try the restaurant, but I wouldn't rush back to the bakery. Not because the pastry wasn't good, because it was great, but because the price, and it's not in my area. If I was in the area, sure I'd stop and get it, but I'm not going out of my way for Grampa's.

I must have been here on an off day, as the service was bad and the food subpar. Got wind that this was a local hot-spot, especially since Guy F. had one of his DDD shows here. It was busy, and seemed to be packed with locals, so maybe I'll just order what they order next time. I don't post too many poor reviews, but having a waiter bring wrong orders to our table, only to take it back and pretend to send back to the cooks, when in fact he stashed it under the counter and would continuously go back and eat the bacon on top of the pancake plates...so gross. On top of that, he left the only plate he got right on our table, brought plates 2 and 3 15 minutes later, and the 4th another 10 minutes after...this is like waiting 101, or are my expectations too high? We did like the pastries brought to our table upon sitting, very tasty, so I'd go back for the pastries (separate side of the restaurant, but not the food).

Service is just as important as food, which is why I'm giving it 2 stars. I was not greeted, stood at the "wait here to be seated" sign and saw lots of eyes on me but not one approached me.had to get someones attention and shes like "yeah you can sit there" as if I'm a nuisance. When I'm observing guest coming in, their immediately seated and served, in which of course older men. Its like being profiled since I'm a 23 year old girl. Eggs and hashbrowns are good but french toast a bit dry, which is strange because they are soo fluffy. Food came super fast. And I can't count how many times I've "shooed" away flies from my food.

I have visited this place many times and can say it is in a fast and steady decline. I don't want to review the food, because it is because of the staff that I will never return. The wait staff are rude, someone is always arguing with someone else. The manager, Tommy Grimes was drunk. He has been on other visits I have made but todays visit was more comical than sad. He was stumbling about so much that I was embarrassed for the owners of the place. No one seems to ever wear gloves here. I witnessed the servers get the pastries with their bare hands and then lick their fingers and go serve someone their meals. Flies everywhere which they claim is from the sugar on the table..CLEAN SOMETHING. This place is just bad

SO cute and the food is awesome and cheap. This is a little bakery in Dania that always seemed to be busy. I guess I wondered why for way too long until I stopped in for breakfast one day. One thing I noticed was the absurd amount of pastries and cakes they had and they all looked absolutely incredible. The next thing I noticed was how tasty everything looked on the menu and overall how inexpensive it was. I came here for breakfast and opted for the French toast. A great choice. The French toast was perfectly crispy and the maple syrup gave it the amount of sweetness it needed to leave me satisfied and happy with my experience at Grampa's.

We found this place through online searches for the best lamb shanks in town. We were not disappointed in terms of the lamb shank because we ended up sharing my meal. It's really not a funny thing when it comes down to it. The food was very basic to mediocre. The lamb shank meal was a large portion, well prepared and had great flavor, but aside from this the restaurant is pretty much a bomb. My friend had the short ribs at $16.99 a plate. This included a side of green beans and two sweet potatoes as options. His plate looked like a gelatinous mess. It was a plate of bones covered in a thick brown and onion gravy with hardly any meat. Not a winner of a meal. I ended up passing along some lamb to my friend because it was really enough for two. Our green beans were over cooked and the starter salads were boring, standard wilted bowls of lettuce with two large slices of tomato. The meal did start out with a good surprise with two large sticky cinnamon buns covered with pecans. These bad boys were gooooood! Whoop! Whoop! The service was much to be desired. Our first waitress was a hot mess. I did say first waitress because she ended up dumping us after getting tired of waiting for us to decide on a meal. To be fair the menu was too long and just hard to make quick decisions. Our second waitress was approachable and friendly. She took our order quickly and correctly. At the end of the day it's the kitchen's fault here. It's not great cooking. To compensate for the poor meal our waitress just charged us $18.99 plus tax for the lamb shank. The baked goods looked good, but nothing amazing. Everything just looked heavy, quickly done and sticky. I think this place could use some bleach wipes. Maybe Lysol bleach the extra strength to clean up the counters and glass cases. Help me Jesus! In the end our waitress received a great tip from us, but this place needs a food overhaul and a cleaning intervention.

I came here for a quick bite and was very impressed with the food and the service. As always this place is packed, ya think its the food? I ordered Eggs Bene without english as I am gluten free. Instead I had them placed on top of sliced beefsteak tomato...Yuuummmm. The bakery is overflowing with fresh homemade treats. I wish they had a gf option but I can still look and smell the goodness. Come here early and the wait is not bad. The food is better than Lesters. Try it.

I was a little worried about this place after the reviews but watching it on Diner's Drive In's I knew we wanted to try it! I loved this place! I was worried about a wait but we were seating immediately, the service was also fast and friendly. I liked how they give you samples of homemade danish with your breakfast and this was delicious. This was important since we were not going to order anything additional (which you should because it is a bakery to) and it allowed us to see more of what they offered. I had the Sausage patties with eggs, home fries and biscuits, and found all attributes to the breakfast was different then where I had elsewhere and delicious. My wife had biscuits and gravy and enjoyed it is all. The cakes and other bakery items looked top of the line was well, the full menu accompanies buy the bakery makes it a must go! This restaurant is VERY clean and worth the try!!

One of the best Diners I have been to in a while. When you walk in you get this family diner feel, historical pictures on the wall and friendly staff. Also when you walk in their is the bakery portion of the diner that had some yummy treats. We were immediately seated as soon as we arrived. For starters we received free, yes I said free fruit pastries. They were warm, soft and sweet. I ordered the Country Fried Steak with grits, eggs and biscuits. The steak had great flavor with the gravy and the seasoned breading, so good.. I did not care for the grits because they were creamy but that's my preference. Overall great experience.

On April 7, 2015, server "Lisa" did not introduce herself, did Not listen to my instructions, which were very simple. Asked for extra napkins so I could remove my clear braces, never came. Came into restaurant 2:45 before lunch prices convert over to dinner after 3:pm. Ordered chicken fingers with fries & also gave her a order to go of spaghetti and meatballs. So im at the counter to pay for both meals, she charges me 8.99 instead of the price on the menu for the chicken tenders $7.99 & I discover she hasn't even submitted my order for the "to go" spaghetti & meatballs. Still waiting at the check out counter & other servers are asking me do I want a complimentary pastry?!!! Incompetent Lisa has dumped my Spaghetti on the floor!!! No apologies from any of the staff. Lisa should be drug-tested. Poor service!!!! Don't go here! McDonald's will treat you better,

Let me start by saying we made a mistake thinking this was a typical diner restaurant. It is not. Especially if you want breakfast food as the four of us did Saturday evening. We were seated, after about a 10 minute wait in line, at a back cramped table where no waitress was assigned. After asking several times we did get service and she was good. But her service area was the front of the restaurant and we were in the back. She had to hustle to even pay us some attention. Not fair to her. Three of us ordered the hot turkey sandwich which was closer to cold than hot by the time we got it. It did take what we would normally consider a long time for the food to arrive. The serving was plentiful and tasty. It would have been better had it been hotter. We have been here many times over the years and have been more than satisfied. However, this is the first (and last) time we will go for dinner. There are many choices; so we do not have to limit ourselves to mediocrity for a dinner meal. P.S. the sticky buns they give each table are delicious.

Obviously came for the Lamb shank featured in Diners, Drive-in's and Dives, but left unimpressed. There was definitely the feel that the waitress was stretched thin because she would often forget things that we requested for. She refilled my dad's coffee only once. She messed up giving us the right receipt (my mom's more detailed on that than I am, so check hers out: yelp.com/biz/grampas-bak… ) Sister ordered a breakfast plate but never received the complimentary pastries. Because we had seen it in other reviews, we definitely wanted to try it, and requested for it. I would actually go as far to say that that is one of the only two stars of the meal. I kept eating even after I had finished most of my plate, and could not stop myself. The other star of this meal was my mom's fish n' chips, which I truly wished I had ordered instead. If you like having bacon, I guess one of those eggs & bacon plates would be a star in your meal because my sister's plate had LOTS. On the lamb shank: it definitely had a wow factor when it arrived at the table, but it was very disappointing in terms of taste. I actually thought it tasted a bit artificial- am I really eating lamb shank? What is in that sauce? (Could probably find out watching DDD again, but never mind that.) Although moist and tender, the taste was simply not there for me.

Best diner for breakfast in Hollywood/Ft Lauderdale area! There is always a line but either the owner or the manager is consistently addressing it and sitting people, no longer than a 10 minute wait. Provide you with a fresh Danish plate when you sit down, and within 2 minutes your drink order is taken (food if you're ready). coffee tastes good, doesn't taste like hot water. The only constructive feedback I have is a lot of breakfast items are not shown on menu, so if you are craving something you don't see, ask they probably make it.

Grampa's Bakery has some great menu items, others are pretty average fare you'd find in any diner-esque establishment. You won't regret eating here, but you won't be planning a return trip if it's not in your backyard. The highlight, for me, would probably be that their breakfast "bread basket" includes danish. For being branded as a BAKERY in the name, it's all run of the mill average-deli desserts in the glass cases (not fresh, and you've seen it all before). What was probably most off-putting was the antics of the manager (owner?). He's got Guy Fieri's bit from Triple-D on a continuous loop on several TVs, and Guy's face is plastered on posters all over the damn restaurant. They have signs that say "We're on again!" every time Food Network re-airs the episode. I'm not even sure how Food Network picked this place, because there's plenty of better options to feature in the South Florida area within a 5 mile radius alone!?! The owner goes around from table to table bragging about what it was like to "work with Guy" He goes on to say that "I know how to cook, that's why Guy came!" The episode was taped in 2007 or so... it's really sad and pathetic that the owner can't move on, being a 10 minute bit on TV is his only claim to fame. A small photo by the cash register with Guy and the staff would have been a lovely, tasteful touch... but it'll instead be on the manager/owner's tombstone that Guy visited his restaurant DECADES AGO (and never returned). Let the food speak for itself, because it is decent-to-good... and for god's sakes let the TV episode run its course.

Great breakfast diner & bakery. The free cinnamon roll/danish dish they serve for breakfast is a good indication you're about to enjoy a good meal. Can't go wrong with breakfast choices from eggs any style, omelettes, pancakes or waffles. Best part is the great service. Waitresses are top notch and friendly.

We were told the breakfast was terrific and boy was it! They bring you a place of warm pastries, our favorite thing; while you are ready the menu. Menu and selection is huge and everything was super! We went the first day of our 5 day trip and the breakfast was so good we went back all 5 days which we never do. Great service and selection and the bakery will blow you over.

I love the hustle and bustle of this place - there always seems to be a line to get in - and there is a reason for that. The food is excellent ! It is actually a family name and not in reference to anyone's grandfather surprisingly - LOL. But don't park in the lot across the street if you value your car because you may get towed - only park in the Grampa's lot - as busy as they are it is often hard to get a space - but it is worth the wait. They are so popular they need a bigger parking lot for sure.

Very disrespectful, were not even acknowledged by staff to be seated on a Saturday. One waitress that made eye contact actually pushed her way past us without a word. The gentleman waiting in front of us left- we followed suit about 3 minutes later. So rude.

brought here by a friend, this place is very tasty. the serving sizes are a bit on the small size and this place is not cheap at all. when we arrived, the lady at the front was very nice and told us to sit anywhere, so all 6 of us found a table and had to pull up a couple chairs to a small table. our waiter was a very kind older women who helped us quickly and efficiently. we had a bit of a wait for our food but the place was pretty crowded for a holiday (MLK JR). the food was alright overall, but they charged way to much for it. they give you complimentary pastries at the beginning which are very good. I ordered a simple eggs and bacon which was about 6 dollars. we left with a check of 85 dollars.

the old lady at the register is rude and doesnt belong as the face of that restaurant in the front. i tried to order a cinnamon bun to go at thr bakery but there was no one to help. i asked the old lady at the register to help and all she did was make lame excuses and was rude. she needs to be retired. she doesnt know how to smile or serve people and would not lift a finger to help me get the cinnamon bun from the bakery. pancakes were decent. male waiter was great but if u order a connamon bun to go when u order your bteakfast he should have grabbed it and added it to the bill rather than send u to the bakery where there was no one at the counter to serve anyone. thats poor service. we wont be back til they improve their service and ditch the old lady the front register.

I went here with a friend. Enjoyed the friend chicken and Reuben sandwich. It's not a place I would frequent but hey...their bakery is full of goodies and the menu is filled with many options. The service here was pretty good. Inside it feels like an old diner you would see on an HBO movie in the 1990s... When you finish your meal, you pay for it at the counter. My friend and I will go back to try the tuna salad.

Our 3rd time here. Not thrilled to find out the oven is broken and no rye toast. What bakery has a broken oven?!?!? We will stick to Long Island Cafe in sunrise from now on. Omelet gross. Hoard of cheese. I asked for it well done. Was egg whitey on the inside.

The service sucks! I felt that I was being rushed. The food is a hit and miss. They actually had the nerve to serve me burnt toast the last time I was there. I will take a picture and post it if this ever happen to me again.

Busy, but great food. The pastries they serve before your meal are amazing. The baked goods looked heavenly. Wish we would have found this place sooner. Fort Lauderdale in general is nothing special. Would highly recommend this place. The waitresses are fast and friendly.

This place is amazing! The food was fast and fresh and the service was very friendly. I was given sample of many of the pastries and got plenty of extras. It is no wonder why this place has been around so long. I cant wait to revisit. A++

Do not ever get the Eggs Benedict here unless you LOVE LOVE LOVE chicken gravy! They do not use hollandaise sauce! We complained about it tasting and looking like chicken gravy and were told that is what they use! AWFUL! Great for chicken dishes. Just weird for eggs benedict!

Great food, and great service. I would give a 5 star, but the coffee was cold and tasted like weak bathwater. Other than that, this place is a great stop if you're in the mood for some great food.

I've been going to grampas for the past 2 years and I've seen it continually decline. The service has always been crappy but I used to find it as part of it's charm, especially because I loved the food! HOWEVER - the quality of food has declined. Combine that with the horrible service and it's truly a hole in the wall that's lost all is redeeming qualities. Never again.

3.5 (if possible) Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. We decided to have our first breakfast here, when I visited Florida. My first impression was horrible. It seem unorganized. We had to seat ourselves, and our waitress took forever to give us any attention. She managed to make my entire mind go 180 though when she started giving us attention. She is a very hardworking lady. This place gives out complimentary danish. I forgot the flavor, but it seemed squish to me. I couldn't figure out what it was at first because it looked like a squashed cheese roll. Don't indulge on those danish! OMG. They're super filling. I can't say I had the best omelet and Benedict here, but there's something different about their eggs. The eggs tasted nothing like the ones I always had anywhere. That was the most notable thing about the meal. Anyways, I think this place is okay. I would come back if I'm around and starving because my server was really nice.

Boy did we have a blast here! During one of those few times you can get 3 generations of your family under one roof, for breakfast, talk and laugh - almost 20 people and the staff is accommodating, helpful and happy, not to mention the down home cooking for every dish ordered. From 5 year olds to my age (don't ask) with equally mixed personalities, culinary expectations and tastes were all really satisfied at the our: 2 Eggs with Meat platter; French Toasts; Sliced Banana and Cereal; 2 Eggs Benedict; 3 Egg Sandwiches with Bacon & Egg; Waffles with Fruit; 2 Scrambled Eggs with toast; 3 Omelets; and my Country Fried Steak with eggs, hash browns with really well prepared grits; along with an assortment of tea, milk, juices and coffee. This is for sure a family's meal-away-from-home place. Staff is attentive, down to earth, very helpful and jovial. The place is old, but immaculately clean and well kept, making such a large meal really worthwile. Go for it, you can't miss!

Wow, what place to eat, everyone so nice. It is not an expensive place to eat and our food was delicious. We are here on business and always look for local flavors. The portions are so huge I am having leftovers for lunch. And the deserts are great, just wished I could sample all of them. The bakery part has some of the best carrot and cheesecake slices you'd ever want, will go back for sure.

Saw this place featured in one of Guy Fieri's Diners Deive Ins and Dives so we decided to visit The portions weren't huge but they weren't small either. The fish & chips, which was part of the daily specials, was really good. Flounder. We also had a ham, bacon and provolone cheese omelette which wasn't bad either. Service wasn't rude or overly friendly. Waitress was courteous and kept our sodas filled. This place is also a bakery, and although we didn't try their desserts, they all looked really really good. Maybe next time we will go just for dessert!!

Should be a zero star!!! What's the point of having "good food" if you have the WORST customer service? I have called this bakery 7 times in 4 days and I have emailed. Every time I've called I've been told "tommy the manager will call you back in 30 mins" then I get told an hour later when I call back he stepped out and will call me ASAP. Well, it's been 6 days now and I refuse to do business with a bakery like this. I needed 2 seperate tier & fondant cakes (not cheap) and they knew what I was calling for I sent pics and explained it on phone. I couldn't imagine giving this place $1 after the disregard for their potential customers. oh by the way, no one ever called me back. Not "Tommy" or any employee. If my manager gets busy I always call the client back to atleast inform them and let them know we haven't forgot about them. Clearly they never forgot, they never cared about my $400+ potential order.

Grampa's is a great restaurant in Dania. It's super easy to miss if you're cruising down to Downtown Hollywood or the beach. I've been coming to this place for years. I happened to stumble upon it when I was trying to eat lunch at Jaxson's. The wait at Jaxson's was long, so a coworker and I decided to try Grampas's right across the street. Grampa's is your typical old school diner. They start your mean off with a plate of warm pastries to enjoy while you're looking over the menu. You normally get a plain cheese one, along with a fruit flavored one. The menu has a ton of choices; which includes breakfast that's served through lunch. Portions are very generous here. The one egg breakfast, looks like it comes with 3 eggs, a mound of crispy hash browns, and a mound of bacon. We're not talking 3 or 4 pieces; it's literally like 8 or 9 pieces. Get that for breakfast if you love good hash browns and bacon. The deli sandwiches are also excellent. Bread is nice and fresh along with awesome meat. Pastrami is the best there. Don't forget the try the fried chicken. The meal takes a little longer to cook (so you'll probably get your food last, but it's worth it). The meal comes with fries, cole slaw, and a half chicken. If you don't finish it, it tastes even better later as a snack. So, if you have some time to kill in FLL, take a cab and check out Grampa's. One more note, make sure you do not park across the street in the Jaxson's parking lot. People get towed all the time. They do have an extra parking lot just half a block down on the same side of the street.

Wait staff overall wasn't great but our waitress was friendly the whole time. Prices were high for a diner but the portions were large. It's an older looking diner but packed because of the good food

We waited 10 min to get seated, the woman at the counter was by far the RUDEST hostess I have ever come into contact with. Finally get seated and waited another 10 without seeing a server. We walked out. It's a shame because I have had their pastries before, they are amazing, but I will never go back there.

We spent the day boating around Ft Lauderdale and Miami. We had 4 adults and 3 kids and wanted to find some good food with an easy going atmosphere. A friend recommended Grampa's. I heard of it, but never ate there before and wanted to try it. The place is close to the beach, so that made the choice easy. The seats were filled, but they go us right in. One of the owners, Tommy, came by the table and spent some time with us joking and even taking our order. The food was fresh and tasted great. The kids had a blast and we even took a picture with Tommy on the way out. I loved it. Great dinner-comfort food. I recommend you try it out. Vince

This place is our usual brunch spot on Saturdays/Sundays. The food is pretty good, albeit expensive for a diner. The pastries that are served with a breakfast entree are delicious, and they rotate flavors. I get so excited when we get a plate full of apple Danishes! The servers are a hoot!

It is tough when Jaxsons Ice Cream. Parlor is across the parking lot but if you want baked good and good old fashion diner food, Grandpa's Bakery is the place. Fresh pies and a great price.

Pretty neat little diner. Had an excellent Cobb salad. It was HUGE, not to mention packed full of avocado, chicken, bacon, and blue cheese crumbs. We also received complementary pastries. Delicious. My only complaint was the service. I'm a server so I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt. However, our waitress (and all the others that past by our table) seemed genuinely disinterested in completing the basics of decent service. Again, I understand if the restaurant is busy but they were fairly slow and our food came out quickly but it took 15 minutes to get the server to stop laughing and talking with her coworkers and take our order. Another 20 minutes to get the check after eating... Hire better servers and this place would be at least a weekly stop for me.

Who are these people that keep saying this place is cheap? $4.25 for ONE egg? If you want eggs, bacon, and pancakes, bring along $14.50. Coffee, of course, is extra. And don't try any sort of substitution or special order. Waitress was nice.

Granpa's Bakery has been going downhill more and more over the past year or so. The service is becoming more lackluster (even for an old timey breakfast joint) with each passing day. Case in point, my wife and I were at breakfast and they delivered their signature baked goods as a little appetizer. There were no small plates on the table to put them on, so we asked our waitress for some. She replied with "well just hold them in your hands." As she was saying this sentence, I looked around and saw a huge stack of small plates that were clean and just sitting there. I pointed them out and her response? "Eh, whatever" and walked away. Unfortunately that was just one awkward exchange of the more that are coming each time we go to Grandpa's. Sadly, I doubt we'll be back much.

  • DV P.

I had the battered and fried clams. They were very greasy, and surprise, came with a human hair on the plate that does not match the color of my hair. The complementary danish pastry was too sweet for my liking, but others in my party would disagree strongly with my assessment. For subpar food and mediocre service, Grampa's gets two stars, but even that is a tad generous.

Danishes were nuked but still pretty good. We had to ask for it because it wasn't given with meal. Philly cheese steaks were a 1 star not good at all. Went solely because of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and we were very disappointed.

I needed a cake for my father's 80th birthday and I chose grandpa's because when I called them they said they could make the cake with 3 days notice and others wanted 4 weeks. This was a special cake and I was completely disappointed. When I went in I placed my order with the owner. I told him exactly what I wanted, even brought him a photograph of what I wanted. He said he could do it. I also had looked on their website and saw that they had a variety of cake flavors and fillings. I ordered a rum layer cake with coconut frosting. When I saw that the cake didn't look like what I wanted, I was worried and I was right to be. The cake was not a rum cake, it was ordinary yellow cake which I could have gotten from anywhere!!! and I had specifically not wanted yellow cake. The coconut filling was there and tasty, but this cake was not special. I could have paid $35 less and gone to Publix and gotten the same yellow cake! I will never go there again. AND by the way, the first time I went I got a few bakery items to go about $10 worth- without telling me they put and extra $2 charge on my debit card, I guess because I used my card!??!

Great atmosphere. Waitress and hostess are very friendly. I had their buttermilk pancakes. They were very good. Their danish that they give you when you sit down is awesome too. Corn beef hash has great flavor and not from the can. I have been to Grampa twice and food has been consistent. I will make this my regular place in Hollywood. I almost forgot their bakery section of the restaurant offer a lot of tasty treats.

After my 4 hour drive across the state and a fight with an old biddy standing in the last parking space in front of Gramps for her friend to drive around the block and park in that space, I figured my experience could only look up. wronnnnng. My 3 stars is a generous gift. I chose this place off the Triple D Food Netwk app because it was reviewed highly by Guy Fieri and near my final destination. The place is not living up to the hype. I arrived at 1 p.m. after a Sunday lunch crowd. The waitress, who appeared a lead waitress, was rushing around exasperated as if she were busier than she really was and put out by it all. My table had not been adequately cleaned, requiring me to grab napkins and do it myself. I watched a lame blonde bus boy "clean" another table and it explained everything. He didn't wipe it down, he daubed a spot he saw and wiped the edge. That's it. No wonder the condiments were sticky, floor was nasty and the menu was gross. For the amount of standing around by these bus boys the room could've been sparkling. It took a while for the waitress to take my order. YELP reviews suggested a long wait for the food, so I asked for a napoleon to eat while I waited. The cake was put down with such fervor in front of me I thought I was going to wear it. It was gigantic (explains the $5 tag) and looked luscious. It was flavorful but the "delicate" phyllo dough was so dense, I had to cut it with a serrated knife, far too firm to be fresh. I enjoyed every lonnnng chew though. A simple grilled hot dog was taking forever. (A complimentary pastry bite would've been nice for the wait, but hey, I just ate a ginormous napoleon.) The waitress said it was "hard to switch over from breakfast". It was also hard for her to notice I needed a drink refill. When it finally arrived it was a giant dog on a homemade bun with a dusting of kraut. I ate about half and enjoyed it. The krinkle cut fries were commercial fries and luke warm. My hot dog, drink and dessert was about $17. The pastry cases were nearly empty and you had to wait in line to pay at a register on an archaic machine. In summary, the place is not being run efficiently. The service was impersonal and at a mad dash pace, though the food's arrival and the "clean up crew" worked at a snail's pace. The food was impressive in volume and tasty but not "gourmet". The dirtiness would have me thinking twice about returning.

While they have a lot of variety on their menu, the service here is completely unprofessional. I witnessed two different wait staff scream at each other two feet from our table, on two separate occasions....unprofessional!

It used to be good, but has really declined. Service is hard to get and very poor. The food is okay but way overpriced for this type of venue. Don't go except maybe for breakfast.

I came in here today for the second time & I'm happy I did. My first visit, (a few months ago) I showed up during their busiest time on a weekend.. my bad. The food was o.k. and they gave complimentary pastries but overall the rude server & prices ($30 basic breakfast for 2) made it a very average experience. However, I came here for lunch today & had a great experience. It was 3:30 on a Thursday & very slow. Our server was super friendly & attentive. I was a little hesitant at first with his enthusiasm over how great everything on the menu was, but turns out, he wasn't full of it- it was actually great! I had the fish & chips (they use fresh flounder-2 good sized filets) & my hubby had a Philly cheesesteak. Both were huge portions & delicious : ) I was kind of disappointed I'd indulged in their complimentary sticky buns before my meal but not really because they were SO good. Lunch was around $30, great considering the quality & portions. I'll probably stick with JP's or Dandee Donuts for breakfast but I'll definitely be back here for lunch!!

Well, I finally made it to Grandpa's. I had been curious to try it. The place is not cheap for a full dinner, and it's not gourmet, but it's much like what those of us who have lived in New York City grew accustomed to: a diner/coffee shop type restaurant with very good food and really good desserts. That's actually not at all easy to find in South Florida, where lousy restaurants can be the norm. The soup I had- turkey noodle- was excellent. It's not likely that it was anywhere near low-sodium, but it was very flavorful. A bread basket included sticky buns, and the rolls were fresh. I had the stuffed chicken breast with cheese and broccoli, along with yellow rice and the vegetable of the day- string beans, which were fresh and crisp. The rice was mushy and delicious. The chicken was very good. For dessert we had a slice of Snicker's Bar Cheesecake, which was huge and really amazing. The chocolate icing was a really good chocolate flavor. The service was very friendly. The atmosphere is clean and comfortable, but not snazzy or particularly unique. I will definitely go back. A satisfying meal is to be had. In addition to the menu, Grandpa's has a long list of "specials" that include a variety of fish dinners, but none of it is particularly inexpensive. A dinner is about $17 and up, including soup or salad and bread (and sticky rolls). Beverage and dessert is not included. It's "comfort food" and simple recipes that provide a hearty and satisfying meal. You absolutely cannot do much better in fancier and more expensive restaurants in South Florida- trust me on that.

This place is no longer the same , lady with attitude because i wanted a cappuccino after my order i guess they were closing . Got home to find out she messed up my order and gave me super sweet dry cake instead of pie and all your hear is the two ladies complaining about low tip they made all day !!! And you wonder why ?

Ugh so overrated! Food was just ok, not great as has been hyped. I had a Reuben that was kind of dry and most of the flavor was in the bread. My boyfriend had country fried steak that was less than great. Service was ridiculous, had to get a manager to get our server to check out after her ignoring us for 30 minutes after we finished eating. Will not be back!

  • Nektaria R.

We were able to make it back after our first disappointment when we had found them closed already. We were told to sit wherever we want (I'm really hot good with decisions, just tell me where to sit!) In any case, we were able to choose a table towards the back of the room. Not like it really matters. It's all really the same. Everyone was pleasant enough. We actually got fresh bread in the bread basket unlike the other reviewers that talked about danish or cinnamon rolls. We got bread. It was fresh and warm even if it wasn't sweet, it was good. I had to try the chili after the previous nights' adventure at Jaxsons. It had good flavor but needed to be hotter. Oh well, hot chili on a sunny Florida day probably not a great idea. I need to stop asking for the chili everywhere I go. I was really excited about trying the lamb shank. It was definitely fall off the bone. I was a little disappointed with the temperature of the lamb but the waitress popped it into the oven or microwave and it was perfect. The potatoes were interesting. My husband got the Philly cheese steak. It was a good choice. He enjoyed it and so did I. We may come back some day in the future but we'll probably skip the bakery since we weren't thrilled with some of the sweets that we picked out. The lace cookies were a bit strange, the texture was foreign. The stuffed cookies were pretty good though. DDD did get something right though, the portions are huge, the prices are reasonable and the joint is pretty nifty looking so check it out.

Took my Mom down to South Broward early one morning recently, and happened upon this place on the way back. It's kind of tucked in a little off the west side of US-1 in Dania, but we rather enjoyed it. It was just between breakfast and lunch...Mom had a salad and she's a picky salad eater...and she loved it...it was huge, she took half home for later. I had breakfast and it was delightful. The look and feel of the place, and the parking, reminded us of a NYC diner...loud and busy, but it was worth the wait. Mom likes chain restaurants, but I prefer Mom & Pop places like this one. They gave us a couple samples from their pastry counter, and we ended up getting a carrot cake to go. Honestly, even in NYC, I have never been to a 5 star diner. I think a 3 star rating is accurate, given everything. It is worth a try! We will definitely be back for another visit.

Tbqh, I come here for the pastries...specifically the free cinnamon glazed ones they hand out on Sundays. Service may be a bit sluggish depending on the waiter/waitress but otherwise everything on the breakfast menu is delicious and filling. My usual fare is the eggs benedict, although if I'm feeling really hungry I'll occasionally order the biscuits and gravy which will still leave me with leftovers. This is the perfect place to go late in the morning or early afternoon when you feel you need a pick-me-up.

This place is straight off Drive Ins, Diners and Dives. There are pictures on the wall to prove it! These people must have cooked for Methuselah. I am sure the cashier has been there that long! The food is good and the recipes are straight from a LONG time ago. Breakfast was good and the starter warm pastries really wet you appetite. The omelet was cooked well and the toast warm. Simple easy and good!

Worst experience at a restaurant I've ever had! if you want to stand in line for 20 minutes to wait for a table (fine...that wasn't the problem), have a waiter who takes 10 minutes to bring water, another 15 minutes to take your order, then wait 40 minutes for your food only to get COLD food and the WRONG order then this is the perfect place for you! We went to visit our family in Florida and they wanted to take us here because they saw it on Diners, Dives, and Drive-Ins. From the episode, it looked like a great place to go. WRONG! After waiting an hour our food finally came out COLD and incorrect. My sister-in-law talked to the manager and he didn't even care. He acted like we were the idiots and that is was normal - geez! So our waiter comes to our table after now waiting over an hour and 30 minutes with our second round of food and the order was WRONG again - unbelievable! Needless to say, we left. What a waste of time. Poor management to say the least. Anyway, it did seem that there were some good waiters there, so maybe we just got stuck with a bad one. Unfortunately, we won't ever experience that if that's the case because we will never be back. The only reason I'm giving one star is for the cinnamon danishes they bring to your table while you wait for service. Not going to lie...they are pretty delicious.

I've been back a couple times when friends have come to visit and specifically requested Grampa's. I stick by my recommendation that you go for breakfast or brunch. The pastry is something else, though, and I would give that 5 stars on its own.

I've past this place many times and finally I decided to try it out. From the outside it doesn't seem like anything special, just your typical diner......oh contraire! This place has everything you could ask for and more. They have delicious baked goods, big potions, and quite an extensive menu. Great place for the kids and large gatherings.

We had a long layover at Ft. Lauderdale Airport so we decided on some breakfast outside of the airport. I found this place by yelping it and since we were in the mood for breakfast, why not try it... I had the pancakes, eggs and bacon and a side of corn beef hash. The hubby had his standard eggs, sausage and hash browns. Before your food comes out, they serve you complimentary pastries which are so yummy and gets you ready to eat your meal! I thought that was a great touch! As standard as our breakfast sounds, it was a pleasant meal. I always say to myself, how can you go wrong with eggs or breakfast... well, you can... we left satisfied and ready for our flight out!

First off, I don't know why this place doesn't have more stars. Let me get the con out of the way. Parking is very limited around this area. Park in the wrong place and you could get towed immediately. You would have to do some mall parking, but it's oh so worth it. Then here comes the Pros: HANDS DOWN, the best Sausage Gravy on the entire planet. I usually never order them because I don't eat pork sausage but for some reason that day... I had to have it. I ordered the half portion which is 1 biscuit and a generous bowl of sausage gravy. If I weren't in a public area, I think I would have smothered myself in it. It's the tastiest gravy I've ever had. It's not too salty, it's not too creamy, and the thickness is the perfect consistency. The biscuit was ok; it wasn't as fluffy but that gravy made the biscuit taste like caviar. It just melts in your mouth good. I think we ordered enough food for 4 people that day. I couldn't decide whether I wanted breakfast or lunch. So I ended up ordering eggs and grits and of course the biscuit and gravy. The breakfast menu comes with free pastries and they're just as delicious. I think it varies per order, we ended up with strawberry and apple streusels and they were divine. The pastries alone could fill you up... Fat-Ass Alert! Then as if that wasn't enough to stretch my belly, I also order their lunch specials. Lamb Shank with mash potatoes and green beans and since I couldn't decide between the beef tip and the veal, I ended up with half and half over egg noodles. The waitress, suspiciously the owner's wife, was very kind to me. She really catered to everything that I wanted and that was really awesome on its own. I rather have great service with OK food than great food with poor service, but I digress. The Lunch portion comes with a basket of the cutest and most plump rolls and butter. I avoided them because I knew I wouldn't be able to touch my noodles afterward. The lamb shank was so tender that you wouldn't need a knife to cut it. You just go at it with a fork. The green beans were super fresh and so crunchy. I didn't like the mash potatoes too much. I thought it tasted a bit too gritty for me. My beef tip/veal over egg noodles were the bomb! Both were equally tender and full of flavor and the texture of the egg noodle's texture were perfect to hold the sauce. Lastly, which I think is total conspiracy to your wallet, but you don't pay at the table. You would have to walk through their bakery section to look at all the delectable pastries, cookies, pies, cakes and cupcakes... It's impossible not to look when everything is so colorful and the smell of butter and yeast dancing around you... so, a dozen varieties of cookies at $12.99 per pound later... we finally made it to the cashier to pay for the meal and be on our way. Much thanks to Guy Fieri for stopping by and featuring this on his Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on Food Network. Otherwise I wouldn't have found this old school eatery with the best gravy that still lingers on my palate. There were plenty of other big time celebrities who have stopped by along the way... Kenny Rogers, Tony Benet etc...

Top notch brunch and lunch/dinner for South Florida. Highly regarded and recognized on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives by Guy Fieri. Country fried steak and eggs, delish. Pastrami and Reubens, amazing. Good french fries. Amazing bakery goods. Love it!

Let me just start out by saying, it doesn't get any better than this! I have NEVER had a bad experience at Grandpa's.....I am a snowbird which means from October to April I am in Ft. Lauderdale.... My husband and I go there quite often as well as all our friends. Not to mention EVERY time company comes to visit they want to go there.... They food is homemade....yes homemade! My favorite is turkey dinner that tastes like you are sitting in your mothers kitchen again......the pastries are to die for.... The service is excellent. By far my favorite place to go...... Nothing but the very best of compliments here.... Try it..... I guarantee you will like it!! See you in October :-)

We stopped in on a rainy afternoon for some sandwiches. Can't really rave about the diner food but OH MY GOODNESS THE BAKERY. Oh. My. Goodness. My eclair was perfect. I can't use any other word than perfection. My boyfriend loved his brownie so much that he didn't offer me a bite. (Ouch!) I doubt we'll be back for food but there's no doubt we'll be grabbing dessert again.

We first went into Grandpa's several years ago after seeing them on an episode of Triple D and went again on our most recent visit. I have to say, I wasn't sold the first time and nothing has changed. The first time I got the pancakes, and I thought they were incredibly dry and just overall 'blah.' This time I got a hamburger at the recommendation of the waitress and I can honestly say I've had better at McDonalds. The pickles are bland which I didn't know was even possible, and the fries were completely season-less. They did serve some tasty pastries at the beginning which seams odd to me but at least they were good. Other than that, I found the waitress to be sarcastic and a tad rude. She kept bringing my husband a diet coke even though he told her several times he was drinking sweet tea. We had plenty of water though, she brought a new glass every time she came to our table even though we clearly had two full glasses a piece. I don't know, maybe I am missing something but this place doesn't impress me. I doubt I will go back again.

I firmly believe that very few of the "as seen on TV" restaurants are any better that another similar restaurant/diner down the road, across town or next door. I will submit this place as evidence of my theory. There is absolutely nothing about this place that is worthy of any special trip. Unless, of course, you prefer to overpay for your OK food and service.

Love this spot greasy and good! Everything on the menu looks awesome. Looks like the best breakfast please but I came in for lunch I had the fried chicken and it was excellent!

We visited Grampa's yesterday for a late lunch, just before closing. We weren't aware that they closed so early, but we were able to order our food and eat somewhat comfortably and still leave a couple minutes before closing time. The delicious pastries in a basket were definitely a plus for us. My husband and I were starved when we arrived...drove up from Miami Beach. Since our son had eaten on the ride up, he kept insisting on getting one of the delicious cupcakes he saw on the way in. The waitress overheard this and happily brought him one, "free of charge". Our kid knows how to get what he likes. lol Anyhow, we ordered the wings to start and they were juicy and flavorful! Yum! Although sitting in the sauce/juices too long make them soggy. Take them off the plate as soon as you can and you can avoid that. My husband ordered a burger and I ordered a salad to go with the wings. Everything we ate, with an exception of the hard boiled egg on my salad (it was not fresh), was delicious! We would have given 4 stars if it weren't for the ridiculously high menu prices ($8 for a salad with only lettuce a few pieces of tomato and an old egg) and lack of charm in the dining area. It seemed dirty and in serious need of a cleaning, or maybe just updated furniture? It was like sitting in a Waffle House (which I've only done once). Most of the sandwiches I was looking at ordering were $12-$15. Since we'd never been there before, I didn't want to risk wasting that much on a mediocre meal. After trying the food that we did order, I would be happy to return and try something else. Maybe the corned beef? Overall, the service and food were definitely 4 stars, but the prices are too high for a dated diner atmosphere.

My dad took me here after seeing this place on an episode of Diners, Drive Ins, and Dives. I expected a mostly breakfast place, but their breakfast menu seemed limited compared to their lunch specials. Nevertheless, I decided to order something I never order and had the waffle with whipped cream and strawberries. While we waited for our food, a large plate of complimentary pastry came to the table. I really didn't eat much of it, as it didn't interest me, but it's always nice to get something free. My waffle was pretty great. A total dessert-for-breakfast type item, as it had tons of whipped cream on it. I am not complaining. I enjoyed every minute of it and would have it again. I couldn't even eat the entire waffle, as it was huge. The service was great and we'll definitely be back.

Amazing but they give you a ton of food so unless your a fatty plan on sharing. They do say they charge $1.50 for sharing but we shared and they didnt charge us I gave it a four cause though it is really good it tastes a lot like other breakfast places.

Awesome,Awesome, Awesome!! I loved the cuteness of the old school restaurant decor, food was great and so was the quick service. We had no wait time both mornings we went, and the food was quick to come out and not cold at all. I'm not one to really go by cheesy endorsements, but this restaurant is up to par! I totally recommend it, if you are visiting south florida or just live around the area.

Awe man ate here about 5 times and was impressed with the complementary pastry basket they give you. So damn good and sweet. The food is good I always got a omelet only was wrong once I guess the order was too simple egg whit omlet with spinach. I recieved a egg white omlet with feta no spinach. Whatev not a big deal. The last time I went we sat at a table where we can see directly where they get the pastries silverware etc. I was so so disappointed and disturbed when I saw all the waitresses and including mine get pastries with their bare hands! Then my watress delivered our felt up pastries and licked her finger to turn the page on her notbook to take our order. There went my excitement about the pastries. Grossed me out didnt touch the pastries and wanted to go but convinced myself well hopefully the kitchen isnt as gross??? Yeah not going back :(

After driving past this little place for 20 years, I finally decided to give it a try. What a mistake. It was what I feared. An overpriced trap. First the good: The few items that are baked on premises aren't bad. Good German Chocolate cake squares, decent donuts, and the pull apart pastry is awesome after 10 seconds in the micro. The bad: 1. The cupcakes were from Publix.(undeniable after trying them, my kids pointed that out). The cookies were from Fresh Market, I recognized the brownie cookies and choco chip cookies, cause my kids love them too (as do I) 2. Never, and I mean never let them seat you in the back room. It's a windowless box, that looks lime is used for a card room or meeting room of some kind. You will be forgotten, and they forget to bus the tables of folks who left 20 minutes before, all around you. We had to ask them twice to please bus 4 tables in our vicinity because the odor and site was disgusting. Then the bus service itself was half ass and lazy. Guy didn't even bother to push the chairs back into place for the next patrons... Don't even get me started in the half ass wiping of the tables with the same handful of paper towels. Didn't even use water or winded or any kind of cleaner.... Yuk. We should have walked out then. Thank God the water/ice/condiment station for the main funny room was close to our table, it was the only way to wave down any server that came by. The waitress was very nice and she did try hard to take care of us, and even comp-ed us a few side orders to make up for the rest of the "bad". But even comping the entire meal couldn't make up for the ugly. The ugly: 1. The Belgian Waffle had the consultancy of a hockey puck. It arrived, not at room temperature, but cold, making me think it was frozen to begin with. Even after it was warmed up, albeit at out request, it had that hard overcooked microwave consistency, or another characteristic of frozen food. 2. The "fresh" whipped cream was Cool Whip pressed through a bakers icing bag.(that's an undeniable flavor as well) 3. The pancakes tasted like freezer section rewarms as well, but were probably just a cheap box mix (you should try Aunt Jemima, it's better than whatever mix you are using). 4. The bacon was wax paper thin and had more grease than meat. (Can you sense the disappointment brewing here?) All in all, this place seems like it's lost it's way somewhere after the years... It's alive via longevity reputation rather than its food I suspect. It was featured on Guy Fieri's Drive Ins Diners and Dives(I suspect this qualified as Dive). Makes me wonder how this was scouted? I will try to watch the episode and maybe give it another shot, without the family, based on what he ate. The most disappointing thing was after this bad experience, I still had to pay $56 (after tip, I still gave her 20% for trying so hard to make up for everything) for a family of four with two kids under 11. Has nothing to do with ability to pay, it was just ridiculous for a check like that at a place like this. Sorry for the horrible review Grandpa's, but you know how it goes, the pissed off patron will make the effort to complain louder than most. I hope it gets better, or it was just a really off day... I just won't be back.

This place was highly recommended by friends who live and work in the area: we were sorely disappointed. Unlike other reviewers, we had a very good server, experienced no problem with the refills ad food the food was brought to the table fairly quickly. The food is average at the best, my husband had fish and chips, which was ok and I had the blackened salmon and it had a weird spongy consistency about it. The salad was right out of the bag, with industrial dressing. I got rice with my meal and it was decent (white rice is hard to mess up) , Dan had fries and didn't eat them, which speak volumes about them. The portions are large and spill out of the too small plates and this should not happen in a restaurant. They give you a bread basket with sticky pecans bun and bread as you sit down: they should be aware that a lot of people are deadly allergic to nuts. Not to mention that I didn't care for them or for the bread, which reminds me of the rolls they serve on planes. They said that they opened the restaurants in 1957: well it looks like the decor has never been updated, you feel like you are in a time capsule. The interior is dingy and not particularly clean, the prices too high for the quality you receive. I only watched DDD a couple of times and I was under the impression that Guy Fieri favors food that makes your bad cholesterol skyrocket just by ordering it: Grampa's certainly fits that bill.

on our way from Ft. Lauderdale to the Keys we came across this place and decided to give it a shot just from the name and the look of it. We had no idea it was featured on Food Network and therefore came with some hype. We certainly liked that they give you a couple danish right away while you decide what to order. The OJ was fresh and delicious as well. I ordered the french toast which was way more than I could eat in one sitting. 5 or 6 HUGE slices that were pretty tasty. The restaurant is also a bakery which looked like it had some great items. I was way too full from breakfast to even think about buying anything. I wonder if their over generous portions hurts their bakery business. Maybe I'll be back sometime to give it a try. Note: I really wanted to give it 3.5 stars but that's not allowed so I bumped them up to a four.

This is THE definition of great service. Good food and prices, awesome bakery, sandwiches and omellettes. Friendly staff, clean bathroom, great parking. Free Danish! If you are a Jaxsons fan try Grampas for a change.

Flying to/from FLL? Make time to stop here! Lamb shank is one of the best dishes anywhere. Pancakes, pastries, and house made pastrami are also highlights. Lively atmosphere and a great big smile from Carly will keep you happy and coming back again and again.

I stopped in there last night for a dinner for one and I just didn't feel like eating take out in my hotel room, a meal at the counter sounded good. The busboy and the waitress were very nice and attentive. It was 30 minutes before closing and it really seemed like everyone was itching to leave. I got an order of lasagna that could have fed a small family. No kidding. Garlic bread with it seemed superfluous given the fact I got dinner rolls and pecan sticky buns along with my salad. Lasagna itself was just okay. A little dry, a little bland, buy very cheesy. I heard an interview in the radio today. A well known actor had done a play on Broadway that had gotten a great response from crowds during previews - people were laughing at all the right spots and went wild at the end. Then the NY Times reviewed the play and ripped it apart. The same night that reviewed was printed and until the play closed, people didn't laugh and the closing applause was reserved. Why that story? Because I feel Grampa's is the opposite of that. The fading clips from the papers, the pics of celebrities past and the omnipresent Guy Fieri (signs, the shirts the busboys were, a huge poster, the website, etc) all tell us this place is awesome. It's not. It's just okay. If it were in Jersey it'd be unremarkable.

Service awful the guy ahead of me paying had to yell to have the cashiers turn around and help him the guy who served us greeting us on the phone. Hamburgers fries flounder unseasoned bland sweet fries was cooked with old oil I'm sure. The rolls and lemonade were the only thing decent

Service and hospitality is top notch here but I had issues with the moldy old rotted wood smell inside this place. I say this and I don't have a great sense of smell. Anyway, it ruined my appetite a bit. Had the eggs benedict with grits and they seemed ok, but I never felt comfortable here because of a moldy smell. I probably wouldn't come here again only because of that smell. Makes me feel like there's an illness in this place. Sorry for being critical but was pretty taken aback by it. Also, the coffee wasn't too great either.

I love the pastries they bring before your meal.... Makes me want to cancel my meal :) YUM Diner food what you expect. The first time I went there were roaches crawling on the counter. I trapped one under a cup and showed the server, she said oh we just sprayed. Dang good thing she was so nice though or I would have got up & left and never came back. I went back 1 more time same diner food no roaches. I'm not going to be a regular but if I'm around I will stop in..... I'm content. Nice service I like that.

I'm a big fan of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives... and when I found out of this place, it was the must try place for me just after the Hi-Life Cafe (which used to feature the Top Chef contestant Carlos Fernandez)... and of course, entirely based on that episode of the show, I just had to have the Lamb Shank. It was absolutely awesome, and HUGE. Well worth flying the thousands of miles from Calgary, and then the drive from Ft. Lauderdale. (Ok, I didn't fly all the way here just for the lamb shank... but it was still one of the highlights of the trip!) There were so many other items on the menu I would have loved to try, but damn it, I have but one stomach to give. I will be back to Ft. Lauderdale soon enough... and yes I do plan to pick up some pastries as well!

DDD has let me down!! A sad, sad day. We brought our family here from out of town, hoping to show off a local "gem" but we were so disappointed, and embarrassed. We waited in line for over 20 minutes, had an incompetent waiter that couldn't properly fulfill a water order, and finally - 40 minutes later received cold food and wrong orders. Not only did we waste over an hour (plus travel time) of precious vacation time for my family, we also ended up with a cranky tired baby (well, and 4 cranky hungry adults). We didn't even get an apology when we explained that we would rather leave than wait it out again. As a side note, this was partially our fault...we should have learned our lesson after having this happen the first time we went, months prior. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, well... you know how it goes.

Very diner feel (sticky menu and all). Great traditional food. They keep the breakfast item concentrated to classics which suits them perfectly To me what stood out the most was their friendly customer service. We were greeted with complimentary danishes and we immediately offered coffee. Felt just like going to a grandparents house (not to sound corny).

Let me first say that this is one of the few places in South Florida that actually has good table service. This place has been featured on Diners, Drive-In's and Dives, seen on food network, and for good reason. I've tried lunch/dinner and breakfast there so far. The fried chicken was tasty, and the pancakes were great. There are very large portions here, so if you can't eat a lot, there's more than enough to share. There is also a bakery inside of the restaurant. I haven't tried anything yet, but the next time I'm here, i'll be sure to try one of the breads.

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I love graesy-spoon diners. When several people recommended Grampa's, I knew I had to try it. I was less than impressed. Upon walking in, I thought the place looked legit. Looks can be deceiving. It had bagels on display that looked amazing, and I loved that they had the pies on display in a tall display case. I couldn't get over how big the place was. Despite the size and busyness we were seated right away and served water and danish soon thereafter. Our waitress said she'd be back right away. 10 minutes later and she is no where to be seen so I call over another waiter. When he asks what he can do to help us, I say we would like to order can you get our waitress. She then shows up, takes our order perfect. After 15 minutes I still have not received my beverage so I ask another waitress for a diet coke, and she gets it for me right away. I wasn't angry, since they were busy, and I did have water to quench my thirst. After 30 minutes, our food has still not arrived. I ordered french toast (challah) and a side of bacon and it was delicious. My boyfriend ordered two eggs, a bagel and grits. No reason for it to take so long. So, I call the waitress over to ask what is taking so long. She says "if you can't tell, we're busy." That just made me angry. All she had to say was, "I'm sorry, let me check on it." No apology nothing. B on food, D on service. As we said when leaving, if our wait was 15 minutes for food, we would have liked the place. The fact that breakfast took over an hour is unacceptable. I most likely will not be coming back.

Now this is a diner. The food was excellent and the place was packed to have the diner feel. I had the lamb shank which is what was featured on DDD. The lamb literally fell off the bone it was that tender. The potatoes and veggies were also good with the sauce on top. What was especially good were the rolls. Homemade and delicious. Afterwards, I went to the bakery and tried the chocolate cookie which was good but the really good cookie is the brownie cookie which has brownie batter baked into the cookie....wow. Definitely a place to go to.

Once and a while I'll stop here on my way home after fishing at the Dania Pier. It's pretty basic, but they love advertising the fact that the infamous Guy Fieri was in their restaurant. I usually sit at the bar which is right behind the kitchen window/expediting. Can get pretty hairy in here at peak breakfast hours on the weekends, so if you're shy, don't like bad language, or want quiet-- don't sit there. The waitress/expeditor/cook banter is pretty wild, but adds to the character of the place. I think the complimentary breakfast bread/danish is a nice touch. The place is not particularly cheap for the quality either-- canned corned beef hash and eggs with coffee isn't exactly worth 15 bucks. Bakery items all look incredible though, if there's a next time I'm going for it. Overall pretty mediocre food and service relying on their TV food show appearance to get people in the door.

Hey ate here today and it was nothing to write home about. Yes I watch Diner D& D as well Guy would be ashamed that he visited there. Its a place you wouldn't drive to as a destination to eat only if you were in the area. The waitress forgot about us ad we needed to wait for her just to bring us our fries, coleslaw and napkins. As one other person said on blog it needed to be closed down for a few days for a real good cleaning. I was told if you see a roach out in the daylight their are thousand behind it. Good luck God speed

Not impressed. Don't get me wrong ,the food was pretty good, but everything else wasn't. First, the owner (man that was with Guy Fieri's show DDD)...dude was not sociable at all i tell you. he's job was to just get people in and out of there. he didn't even say to anything to us when we were next in line to be seated. he was too busy trying to figure out who's outta there so we can get seated. i also, tried to leave a tip back to my table as it was being cleaned, he just took the money from me and threw it on the table. No thank you, no nothing... sorry sir, but tv didn't make you cooler to act like that. Next bad experience was one of the waitress, the table next to us needed pepper and the waitress asks me for ours and gave it to her!! WOW! oh yeah, it was never replaced... hey at least the biscuit was good. i'm sure i can find a waaay better breakfast joint next time im in the area.

I like to thank Guy Fieri from Diners, Drive In and Drives for the put on. Grampas is a family-owned diner that has a plethora of items. They do all kinds of breakfasts, Philly cheese steaks, prime rib to shrimp scampi and they do it well. It will literally take you 15 minutes to review the menu and then maybe another 10 to decide on what you want. They have foods for all moods and their portions are fairly large too. There may not be much in Dania besides Jai Alai, but at least there is Grampas and trust me, its a must anytime you're near the area. Save room for dessert because their bakery is loaded with tons of great things like cannolis, rainbow cake, eclairs, napoleons or key lime pie. This place is too good to pass by.

Location was good, easy to get to and there were places to park. Food was good, had the daily special Eggs Benedict, good, nothing to write home about. The free danish plate to start was a nice touch, went well with the coffee. Service dropped this a couple stars for me. My coffee cup seriously went unfilled for 5-10 minute stretches, which normally would not irritate me, but the manager that was shown on Diners, Drive ins and Dives was literally sitting right next to us "surveying" the crowd, instead of helping his waitresses. Team effort was not in the forte. I did have a coconut donut on the way out to sample the bakery, and it was delicious, but I don't think I will be back for a meal anytime soon.

There are 2 reasons of which I want to come back here, the delicious freshly baked pastries and our sweet waitress Megan. We decided to come here for breakfast with a group friends as we were traveling to Ft. Lauderdale on our way to Punta Cana. We took a taxi from the airport to Grampa's ($20 taxi) tohave breakfast. there was really no wait as it was still early. our waitress Megan was delightful. She was like your favorite quirky aunt. She was a sassy tell it like it is type lady and very kind. Since we told her we were traveling through town she gave us a free box of danishes to go and offered us free coffee to go as well. If that's not hospitality then I don't know what is. (she even offered her car if we wanted to drive around, however she was dissapointed that all 6 of us wouldn't fit in it. LOL Onto the food. Since we were having breakfast we didn't get to try the dinner meals that everyone raves about (ala DDD). For the price the food was good. the breakfasts were not worth writing home about and a friend of mine ordered a sad looking grilled cheese sandwich which even Megan didn't appreciate. be that as it may our experience was made excellent thanks to a kind lil lady named Megan. Thanks so much for your hospitality. P.S. Those danishes were soft and flaky even a day later!

Grampa's is a solid breakfast place and a great lunch place that is basking in the glow of being featured on Food Network's Diner's Drive-Ins & Dives. They don't have a ton of exotic items, but they deliver really solid omelets, pancakes, and egg plates in the mornings. When you arrive they bring some pastries to your table as an appetizer. That kicks it up a whole star for me. The coffee is great because it's not acidic like most diner joints. They hire a lot of servers so the place hums and service has been excellent the last three times I've been there. Parking is limited, and you can't park across the street at Jaxson's shopping plaza or they'll tow you. In reading the prior reviews I've never encountered a moldy old wood smell. This place is simple and awesome. Go.

Yum, I'd come back here again purely to eat the complimentary pastries that they serve when you come in. They were these delicious little braided flat buttery cinnamon filled fresh pastries. The coffee was hot and fresh, and we ordered breakfast. Honestly, we could have skipped breakfast and stuck to the coffee and pastries-it was the highlight. The waitress was really sweet that waited on us, and there were all sort of signs commemorating Guy Fieri's visit here. The omelette was good, and the hash browns were slightly overcooked. The decor is outdated in a fun way, and the joint was hopping at 9 A.M. There's also a big to go pastry case with cakes, pies, all sort of baked goodies, and breads are lined up behind. I'd suggest hitting that up more than eating breakfast if you want to go into a blissful sugar coma!

I went there last Sunday after church because of a request of my friend. She had seen Grampa's on Diner Drive in... It was in the morning. I ordered cheese steak with onion & my friend ordered scrambled eggs with hash brown. By the way the wait to get to the table was 45 mins on a Sunday... The waitress was good but hurried.. She wanted us to eat and get out fast. My cheese steak was cold.. the cheese was warm but the steak was cold. the bread was fresh & warm from the bakery. The eggs were so so.. I also ordered french fries & instead I got cole slaw. Grampa's is clean and great bakery but their restaurant is not as good... there are better diners around...

Seriously? I don't know why Grampa's doesn't have more stars?! I didn't know that this place featured on "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" until we got there. I absolutely love that show and was super excited when I found out. We went with our friends, everyone ordered something different. We had heard that the Lasagna was outstanding, my husband ordered that and it truly was outstanding--and the portions are GINORMOUS. The $3. 50 charge for sharing is totally worth it. My friend had the Southern Fried Chicken and it was amazing! The skin was crispy and perfectly fried. The chicken was tender and the mashed potatoes were also delicious. I had the Salmon and was a little bit disappointed because of its fishy taste. But I am a finicky person when it comes to fish, I dislike the "fish" taste... but sauce it came with and yellow rice was amazing. On service... it was perfect. We went on a Tuesday night. Our waitress was the cook's daughter. She was very nice and extremely attentive. They even allowed us to change the TV at the bar so that we could watch whatever we wanted! Of course we chose Scooby Doo as my friend's son loves the show. To top it all off, we had the Velvet Cake for dessert. We were told that it was homemade and fresh! It was a large piece of cake and it was nothing short of perfection. We also had their regular coffee and it was good coffee! I really really liked this place. :D

The plate of Danish alone could've rated 5 stars. I ordered an omelette with ham, cheese & peppers. They forgot the peppers (the waitress complained that the cook was busy talking on the phone to his 6 kids). The omelette was tasty, but the hash browns were cold and mostly uncooked. The biscuit was delicious. I ordered a breakfast special for my son - pancakes, eggs & sausage. The waitress substituted a kid's meal withh the same items for less $$ - and it even came with a cupcake! The aerver was very pleasant and attentive. The baked goods were better than the food overall. Alas, they didn't have 7-layer cake the day I was there. The menus that double as place mats & the utensils weren't as clean as I might've liked. I guess that's why they call it a greasy spoon!

Another DDD tryout. While the service was great , the stuffed cabbage rolls were bland and clam strip platter was tasteless.

Typical breakfast. Nothing fancy...it is a diner after all. Slow service & they didn't make my eggs right. Will continue to frequent another diner down the street instead.

Me and my husband came across this restaurant recently. It's a gem! The waitresses are so sweet and helpful. The complimentary Danishes are amazing! Breakfast was full of deliciousness! Stop by and bring a healthy appetite.

On the way to the airport we stopped for breakfast at this neat bakery/eatery....It appears that Grampas was highlighted on DDD and is no longer anyone's well kept secret. The menu included a rather small offering of typical breakfast fare...and a much more extensive lunch menu. There was a line and I have to admit, the large Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives poster is what pulled me in (I do not wait in line for breakfast food---life's too short) but to my surprise the line moved remarkably quickly and we were seated and immediately served with a large plate of warmed cheese and fruit Danish sliced into 1 inch strips. Too sweet...but so freaking good I didn't want to share any of them.... Our breakfasts included 2 eggs, bacon or sausage and two very large pancakes....here's my problem.....pancakes should be served ONLY with whipped butter and maple syrup. The "pancake syrup" is maple flavored corn syrup and water and it is vile. This place should do a little better than a prepackaged cup of low grade syrup.....the eggs and pancakes were well done but the sausage were ice cold and the otherwise very prompt server forgot my wife's toast.... I've often wondered whether the increased business that is generated by a DDD episode causes food quality to suffer as the restaurant deals with large crowds of DDD fans who flock to these places.... Oh, by the way....the baked goods looked fabulous... The place is definetly worth stopping....but I bet it was better before Guy found it.

They really are the definition of a great american diner! Food was good and the service was excellent.. I got some cakes on the way out you cant leave without buying there pastries in the bakery! Will come back

Danish magically appeared at our table. Yum! The rest of breakfast was pretty rough. If I was in the area, I wouldn't go back. It was busy and I think that's because it was featured on a show but neither of the entrees we ordered were good.

I was Yelp-surfing when I stumbled upon Grampa's Bakery only to see that it's been Triple D-ed. I used to watch the show all the time, and when reviews included the words 'lamb shank', I knew I had to try it for myself. Having lived in New Zealand for a period of time, I can't say that the lamb shank was great. It definitely was tender, I just didn't care for the gravy. No kidding about the huge servings, all right. And we got a complimentary basket with 3 white bun rolls and 2 cinnamon pecan rolls. All in all, I appreciate the local mom-and-pops atmosphere, and if you like diner food, maybe this could be your joint.

  • Marie H.

This is surely not the type of place you want to go to everyday as the first thing they set on the table is a complimentary danish..whatever is fresh. So good..too good. Everything was excellent, but it took about 45 minutes for us to get our food however, before we could even complain our server told us that everything was on the house. Obviously, that made us very happy and rendered this review to be a good one. They don't take down names for a waiting list so when you get there, stand in line and watch for people trying to butt-in!

My husband happened to be eating here when Guy showed up - he's the one with the animals at the end of the show! He had the lamb and loved it so he took me and I fell in love as well. So much, in fact, that we decided to have our wedding rehearsal dinner there! Everyone was LOVING dinner - we had a choice of Prime rib, stuffed fish, or Lady GaGa's stuffed portobello (he apprently made this for her on one of her So FL trips!) Everything was fabulous. Tom also made our wedding cake which was TO DIE FOR. I think every person at the wedding commented on how delicious the cake was, and it was super cute! The french onion soup is my favorite - cheesy and gooey and yum! The waitresses are fun - when we bring the baby I think every waitress in the place comes up begging me to let them give her cookies or a cupcake! All in all this is a nice, relaxed place for good home cookin'.

Ok, so we're poing on a cruise tomorrow and we need to have dinner out on thanksgiving. So grandpa's is close to our hotel and being unfamiliar with the area we go to grandpa's. Well wrer we a little surprised that the "special" menu all the dinners are priced at $25.95. Wow grandpa why are you so mean (and greedy). O well, what is a lonesome traveller to do. By the way the food was ok but.........

If you're going to charge deli restaurant prices, you'd better be able to deliver deli restaurant quality. That is not what happened on our most recent visit to Grampa's, on a busy Sunday afternoon. We were seated quickly and received beverages, but nothing happened for a long time after that. We had lots of time to look at the menu. After we placed our order, there was another very long wait. We both ordered Tossed Salad, one with additional shrimp salad and one with grilled chicken. The tossed salad is advertised as coming with hot fresh rolls and butter, and with lettuce, tomato, egg, olives, green pepper, cucumber, carrot, and green pepper, 7.99 without additional protein and 11.99 with our additions. When the salads arrived, I asked for rolls and butter, and was told that on weekends the danish that come with breakfast are the bread. Hmmph. That's not exactly a good flavor match with bleu cheese dressing and grilled chicken. We demurred, instead asking for crackers. The salad contained lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, eggs and olives. There was (after some searching), ONE small SLIVER OF CARROT and ONE small SLIVER OF RED CABBAGE and NO GREEN PEPPER. So... No rolls, no carrot, no green pepper, and no red cabbage. There was grit in the salad. Coffee was never refilled, the crackers arrived after we finished our meal, and the dining room was obviously understaffed. I can compare this meal to a lunch the day before at Moe's Bagels in Aventura, which has comparable prices, but is able to deliver a delicious, fresh meal with large portions while being totally packed to the gills. Grampa's could take a few lessons from their competition.

It's a nice combo being a fan of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and getting to travel A LOT for work. This was my 6th time in the Dania/Hollywood are and always drove past Grampa's wanting to stop. So this time, while driving from the airport to my hotel, I banged a quick right onto their street (definitely didn't cut anyone off while making that last-second decision!) and here I was....at Grampa's. The outside appearance is everything you would expect from a DDD place. The 'E' in Bakery was a different color in the word 'Bakery' on the sign, and not because it was on purpose but because clearly Grampa was in need of another 'E' and this one was on sale. It was established in the '50's and clearly not too much was done to update or modernize...which in all honesty, sometimes gives these type places MORE curb appeal. The lamb shank is supposedly the "go-to" here but I had breakfast on my mind so had to try an omelet. My waitress was extremely pleasant and did remind me of a good ole fashion New England diner....sure enough, I read afterward that was a selling point of Grampa's. "New England diner in Florida." sold. Before my meal came out, I was handed another Grandpa staple...free hot danish to start. Delicious!! Well done, Grandpa and nice to sample a staple without having to purchase it!! I'm not cheap by any means but certainly an added bonus. Went with a bacon/green pepper omelet with American cheese, side of hash browns and wheat toast. The cheese stuck out the most to me in flavor but overall, good portion and good proportions in the ingredients. It wasn't better than other omelets I've had but was definitely good. Washed it down with an apple juice and $12 later, I was full, happy and on my way!

Cant say enough about this place, last week My daughter and I went to have breakfast, Lets talk about Reverse Discrimination, sat down and ordered breakfast, not only were we ignored, a table that came after us recieved menues coffee and recieved coffee refills already, we then ordered our breakfast, wich arrived 20 min later with only two other tables in the place, along with oj that I ordered that I was charged for a large when I wasnt even asked what size I wanted, they just up charged me without my permission also every other tabl recieved comp. Danish except My daughter and I thus having to buy danish on the way out. Because we were not old they treated us like we were'nt gonna tip. Not knowing Im a local Chef in the area for the last 31 years, very sad.

Stick with bakery or dinner because breakfast nothing special and service really sucked had to ask for a refill on coffee and never got another one. I have it three stars solely because the pastries they gave us were out of this world. But the service was horrible

The complimentary pastries were worth a 5 star rating. The fresh squeezed orange juice was very good. Other than that, standard breakfast fare. Took 20 minutes to get our food and every table was taken.

Come on Broward! Is this all we have??!! Drove 25 minutes to eat here based on the reviews and after reading it was named "Best Breakfast in Broward County" in the June issue of New Times. Really? Come on now, Really? OK, they serve a complimentary and very tasty hot and fresh cheese danish at every sitting. The over medium eggs were all cooked perfectly. The grits were fine and the corned beef hash was OK as well. In fact, my two complaints about the breakfast here was the small portion of corned beef hash I was served and the unsliced, stale toast we were served as well. Two orders of corned beef hash and eggs and 2 small oj's came out to $25.00 with a 20% tip for the service. When I think of a top notch breakfast eatery I think of a place that makes you fresh, while you watch, omeletes, eggs, oatmeal etc... like Trattoria del Porto up in Orlando. Over all, and based on my single visit to Grampa's, this is perhaps a solid breakfast eatery and on par with a place like Waffle House. However, they do bake all their sweets and breads right on the premises so that's a big plus. Nonetheless, to rate it 5 stars or "The Best" simply blows my mind.

Breakfast was quite tasty thanks to the following: fluffy eggs, indulgent little pastries, skillfully cooked savory meats, and fresh fruits and veggies. In other words, delicious. The place was slammed at noon, but we were seated and tended too right away. The food was delivered quickly and as ordered in big but not absurdly huge portions. Thanks to all that plus reasonable prices and capable waitstaff I will Definitely be returning to Grampa's. On a final note, be sure to get the fresh squeezed orange juice!

Great breakfast and lunch place! Loved meeting owner: great guy! Love that this is family owned and Guy Fieri visited at some point... Totally enjoyed the pastry on the table, as a pre meal "appetizer" Food was nicely prepared, very friendly service! A little heavier food than we are used too but a great splurge!

I've been to Grampa's quite a few times with various family members visiting from out-of-town, and each time I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. I've only been for breakfast, so I can't say anything by way of lunch or dinner, but breakfast has always been tasty. The complimentary Danishes are delicious, they're usually just what the doctor ordered. I really enjoy their fried egg sandwiches, pancakes, French toast, and eggs Benedict. I ordered the corned beef hash once, and call me picky, but it was really soggy/mushy; I like my corned beef hash to have a crispy edge to it at least. My favorite part, though, is I always get some of their cookies to-go as I pay at the cash register. I once stopped by before hitting the road to drive up to Orlando, and they gave us a free bag of sugar cookies. What customer service! The only drawback for me is the constant Diners, Drive-Ins, and Drives crap everywhere. I can understand playing the episode on a loop (on mute) and then a poster outside, but I don't need 8 sets of Guy Fieri's eyes watching me while I eat my omelette.

I too tried this place after reading New Times and I agree with some of the reviewers on here, this is certainly NOT the best breakfast Broward has to offer. Parking was fine for us, we sat ourselves and then waited... and waited.... and waited... until finally our server rushes to our table and gets our drink order not a friendly or comforting greeting either. The danishes he brought almost seemed like "I know I'm giving you crappy service so here is something to munch on while you wait 20 minutes for your cappuccino, which I will also slam down on the table without saying anything or giving you a chance to finish your 'thank you'." Anyway, the mini danishes were delicious. Finally our breakfast arrive and holy heart attack. We ordered the belgium waffle which came with about a pound of whip cream, while the waffle was definitely very tasty and fresh the whip cream was just too overpowering - I would recommend if you get the belgian waffle you order the whip cream on the side. Second item we ordered was the fried egg sandwich with cheese and again, similar to the waffle the egg sandwich has wayyyy too much cheese for an already "fried" sandwich. I do tend to eat healthy so perhaps this is where I am a bit biased but again, too much cheese that overpowered a good fried egg and a good kaiser roll. Overall I'm not regretting our visit, we don't live too far away and we ended up paying about $22 with tip for everything (the oj was good and fresh squeezed) which is fair. The service was pretty bad, I'm not sure that I can blame the waiter either - he seemed to have a lot of tables. We went on a Saturday afternoon, surely they expect a good crowd? Finally, less is more. If only there was less whip cream on that waffle but perhaps another fruit (bananas, berries), or less cheese on the sandwich but better quality? I think with the servers handling less tables and getting the quality up just a tad this place can in fact be the best in Broward. Also, some nice healthy egg white omelette options wouldn't hurt! :)

I've driven by this place so freaking many times I just had to try it one day for breakfast, which was this past Saturday. It seemed like, maybe because of the name, that it would be a great place. Usually diners and restaurants that are also bakeries are really good. This one is not. While I can't say that with certainty since I didn't order from the bakery, the diner food was really sub-par. The meal started off good with the free danish, which I thought was OK, but my girlfriend didn't like it. Hey, it's free. I had a coffee, which was not very good. My girl got an orange juice, which said "fresh squeezed" on the menu, and she said there's no way this is fresh squeezed. I tried it, and don't believe them either. Before my ham steak, eggs & hash browns came out, I had a biscuit, which was actually really good...hopefully because they baked it there. However, the rest of my meal was lame. As I said, ham steak was OK, but the eggs were terrible and runny (how do you screw up eggs at a diner?). My hash browns were burnt on top and undercooked at bottom and flavorless. Worst hash browns ever. My lady said her meal of bacon, eggs and hash browns was just so-so. The restaurant has a nice, old school vibe on the inside and a nostalgic feel to it (adds extra star), I love that it has a bakery up front, which might be a decent bakery, but I'm not going back here for breakfast or any other meal again. The food is weak and there are too many better alternatives in the area. Sorry Gramps!

This place really is like going into someones home kitchen! The staff there were so pleasant and our waitress just so happen to be the owners daughter. The menu is the place mat and the prices were very reasonable. They can hold pretty large parties in the back dining room and it's pretty busy on Sunday mornings (when we went anyways). They give you a plate FULL of the delicious cinnamon cut up buns or whatever pastry they have as their "bread bowl" and OMG! Sugar overload for the morning but well worth it! Their cinnamon buns go great with the coffee. I ended up getting an omelet and my friend got the biscuits and gravy cause he's just that kind of guy. But don't let that description fool you. IT'S A LOT OF FOOD!!! I didn't end up trying any of the dishes that Guy Fieri tried but because of him, I wanted to go here. Of course we got to talking with our waitress and she did say that she saw a LARGE surge of people coming in since that episode aired. They have t-shirts and a TV in the main dining area that play that episode and lots of other Guy memorabilia. Also what is really cute is they have a diner bar where patrons can eat their yummy food. They have an awesome selection for the bakery up front! NOTE: The parking is a little scarce if you come at their peak time but the wait isn't so long. If there isn't any parking up front, there is always the side streets. It's also literally 5 minutes away from Ft. Lauderdale airport. You have to pay at the register up front for your tab from the diner and whatever you get from the bakery.

We randomly dropped in on this place, on the way from the airport toward the Keys. Saw the Guy Fieri sign endorsement and thought, why not? Had the spaghetti and meatballs, and my husband had the reuben. Decent comfort food, a bit of an old-school diner environment. The restaurant and seatting area is quite large. No complaints. Wouldn't make a special trip, but if in the area I'd stop in again.

Tried this while we are in Florida due to it's appearance on Triple D. While the out side is not much to look at and the parking situation was not great, we did find the staff to be pleasant and helpful. The bakery items were amazing and the goodies they bring to your table at breakfast (I don't remember the name) were really good. I will say the food was above average, but not the best I have ever had (french toast). It's location to the airport in Ft. Lauderdale makes this a nice spot to stop in when traveling. I would say this place is slightly recommended if you have the time, but I wouldn't go out of my way to try it.

This place is the real deal. Service was quick, food was great, as advertised, huge portions and the place was clean, inside and out! I want to go back when I can try the burger and open face roast beef or turkey sandwich. The apple pastry they brought to us complimentary was great as well.

Donuts here are fantastic. I picked up a box for a road trip from Ft Lauderdale down to Key West. The delicious sweet smell flooded the car every time the box opened. Everyone agreed the donuts were great and we all had fun debating which was the best of the box. Surprisingly we had a few left at the end of the day. Not wanting to waste them, we enjoyed them as a late night snack......... and surprise they were still soft and just as good.

This place has great food. Service leaves something to be desired. My wife and I went here before I went to work for breakfast. The waitress was HORRIBLE. I am sorry that I do not remember her name. She sat us down and got our drinks. She came back and asked for our order, when my wife asked a question about the menu, she was told to read the menu again and walked away. How rude is that? She came back took our order, and somebody else brought it to us, and then she showed up again to bring us our check. Worse service ever...... Food was good but service will keep me from coming back unliess I do carry out...... Also, yes the were on triple D... All of the tv showning you, will never let you forget it..... Food good, service crap...

When we sat down the waitress who reminded me of flo from the tv show from the 80's came with a little plate of the best sweetest cinnamon roll ever!! It was amazing!! We ordered the corn beef sandwich and an egg omelet they were both awesome the corn beef was so lean it could melt in your mouth! The omelet was awesome too!! Great find!!

The place is off the beaten path a bit. I was looking up for a local restaurant as I was staying in a hotel in Hollywood. Decided to go to Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives and found this place. GEM!!! Its a diner and bakery but with more. I asked the waitress what they were know for. The girl happened to be the daughter of the owner. Right there its gotta be good. She recommended the lamb shank and fresh grouper. So went with that. First came the bread. AMAZING!!! Sticky buns with pecans and a piece of regular bread. The lamb shank was fantastic, fall off the bone good. The grouper was fresh and was grouper. The portions were very big so got some Strawberry Cheesecake to go (recommendation from the owner himself). Just finished this before I wrote the review and that was to die for. Place is a gem and would recommend to anyone. On a side note, the waitress did say that she would let us know if there was something not that great on the menu so... don't be afraid to ask.

I had Grampas cater an event for me a few months back. They were great! The staff they sent were prompt and very helpful. The food was great and the price was right. I had about 30 people and we fed them all for under $15 a person with plenty of food to spare. When the event was over the staff wrapped everything up. I was very pleased and would recommended them for any event you might need catering for.

NE diner ambiance with a bakery attached. I had the lamb shank, as Guy Fieri tried on DDD, and it was definitely worth it. The prices were very reasonable and the menu was good enough to satisfy my daughter's pallet. The little bakery, next to the registers, had a good variety of italian style pastries that did not disappoint. I will be returning.

What a fun place to eat. I really attempt to try new things, but their fried clams are EXCELLENT!!! They are sweet and tender and crispy and wonderful! Normally they come heaped on a plate of fries. I have learned to ask for a side vegetable instead. There is just so much fried food you should eat at one sitting. The baked goods are excellent. It seems I always leave with a box of goodies to take to work or to share with friends. When you are in the vicinity of the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport ... think of taking a short side-trip south on US 1 to Grampa's. You will not be disappointed!

Grampa's Bakery & Restaurant is a decent place to get some MEGA-grub! The only complaint I would have is the S-L-O-W service. We sat at our table for around 20 minutes before our order was taken. We weren't in a hurry, so it wasn't a big issue, but it wasn't a busy night. The waitress didn't know if we were her table or not, so she went away to check only to come back around 5+ minutes later to finally take our order. The baked goods look absolutely delightful. The rolls and buns we were served before our dinner came were scrumptious. Dinner was HUGE! Their portions would satisfy the largest of lumberjacks. Food was relatively fresh & tasty. If they fixe

Just an average experience. My friends and I were craving a good deli sandwich, and we knew this restaurant was featured on Food Network. My friends both ordered the chicken salad sandwich on wheat, and I got a tuna melt with grilled bread. My friends were both very disappointed with their sandwiches. The chicken salad was tasteless, and the bread was actually stale! I poked it myself. Their sandwiches were very dry and unenjoyable. My tuna melt on the other hand was great. The portions were huge and generous, but I expected them to be. If i'm paying $9.99 for a tuna melt and coleslaw, that sandwich better be huge! You can probably split a sandwich with a friend if you'd like to eat for cheaper. The service was friendly and quick. The decor is really old, but it adds to the cheap vintage charm a bit. All in all, if you're a nation-renouwn diner, you really need to nail your basics ie: a chicken salad sandwich! This place just didn't do it for us.

It took hair under my medium over eggs and more hair under my ham steak to finally make me realize that Grampa's Restaurant is really bad. I find it somewhat amusing that they play the video of the episode of Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives where they were featured. The amusing part is that the host never seems too excited to be there and struggles to say anything nice about them. Anyway, having that video playing in permanent rotation is either a bit sad or just plain obnoxious. The free danish are not really good, but they are really free...if you order something else, of course. I'm struggling to find different words to describe their omelettes or their pancakes or their French toast but they are all average or below. Bottom line, their food is bad diner food. The waitresses work hard as do the bus boys, but there is simply nothing pleasant about the way they do it. The last time I went there (the hairy egg fiasco), our waitress decided to refill the sugar dispensers on all her tables and she decided to use our table as her work surface. Completely oblivious to the fact that we were still eating and trying to have a conversation. When I discreetly pointed out the hair under my eggs and under my ham, I was informed (as if it were a big deal) that I would not get charged for my food even though I had eaten half of it. The worst part of the whole thing? I had already eaten half of my food. I cannot recommend Grampa's because the parking, atmosphere, food and service are way below par.

I'm giving Grampa's three stars just because they serve some delicious Danishes before breakfast and their food is ok, but the service was horrible. The waiter was very rude and abrupt, he got the breakfast order all wrong and he wasn't very attentive. I was very disappointed because I heard this was a great little breakfast place.

Great for breakfast. Not so much for dinner.

We went to this restaurant because it was featured in Guy Fieri's triple D show while we were on vacation in Florida during the Xams break. The decor of the restaurant was old. Since I'm not a diner person, I figured this was how a diner looked like. The waiting to be seated wasn't long, but the waiting for our waitress to take care of us was long. First, she gave us the breakfast menu. We asked for lunch menu, it was another long waiting until she remembered what we asked. My hubby and one of my daughters ordered Lamb Shank, the dish in the triple D show. I wanted something else. The waitress recommended Fish & Chip. The fish wasn't frozen fish, the waitress assured me. My other daughter ordered breakfast. I saw other tables got the famous compliment danish. When asked, we were told it was for those who ordered breakfast. Yes, one of us did. It took her long time to return with these danish (at that time my hubby and I already finished our meal). At the end, she mixed up our bill with another table and she wanted to pass the other bill to us. She assured us the amount was the same but it wasn't. It was sorted out by another waitress. Now about the food: because we had a very high expectation about the lamb shank, it turned out it was just ok. It was cooked well and the meat was smooth and soft. But it lacked the taste. However, the fish & chip was the biggest surprise. The fish was thin filet, hot, delicious, tender. It was the best fried fish I every had. Other reviewers raved about their fries, but mine was tasteless. The compliment danish was a hit. In spite of my fish and some lamb my hubby passed to me, I kept eating them. They were hot, sweet and soft. The aroma was incredible. My hubby was telling me he was full. After I insisted that he should try one, he ate 3 pieces! That said the volume about how good these danish were. We also bought some bakery and pastry for the next day's breakfast. The pastries were big and delicious.

Another stop on my "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" tour... this time, I was back in my hometown of Ft. Lauderdale on a work trip and decided to try a place that I had never been to before - but had just seen featured on the Food Network. I arrived on Sunday morning around 11:30am and sat at the counter. I tried the french toast and coffee. The "half" french toast is more than enough, 4 large pieces of challah bread (the BEST kind of french toast) and a cup of coffee. The french toast was good, but not amazing. Just like the coffee, it lacked flavor. Normally I don't like when french toasts are topped with sugar and cinnamon and taste like "dessert" for breakfast - however, this french toast would have been MUCH better with a little more flavor. The coffee was also bland. The waitress was SUPER friendly and helpful. Overall, a slight disappointment, but I'd try it again... the menu is huge, and I'm sure there's a reason why this is such a local favorite in South Fla.

My partner and I ate breakfast at Grandpa's every weekend for about 3 months. They never have enough parking, and NOT ONCE did we get our whole order correct the first time. Frequently the table and menus are sticky with god knows what. Coffee tastes like dishwater. I have been served burnt toast, no toast, had our food dropped on us by a clumbsy waiter, been served the wrong plate on two occassions, Had my sausage forgotten, waited 20 minutes for the check because the first time I asked for it the waitress just added more coffee and told me "she didn't want me to leave". I will say this for them, they are cheap, and the items from the bakery are good, but the restaurant is a horrorshow.

Horrible service! The food was not good either! My omelette was filled with butter the hashbrowns came out cold, my drink was empty basically the entire time and to top it off the car got towed... We will never return to this place and were surprised to hear it was on diners, drive-ins and dives... Overall horrible!

It was featured on TV! It has to be good. Pretty good diner food (naturally, in monolithic portions), fantastic bakery, signed posters of Guy Fieri everywhere... Perhaps I was being bourgeois when I ordered provolone in my grilled cheese sandwich.

It's a diner. You'll get everything you expect knowing that. Grits were ok; omelet was over-cheesed. Danish was pretty nice.

Just before we traveled to Ft.Lauderdale for a weekend conference, we happened to catch a segment for Grampa's on the Food Channel's "Diner's, Drive-Ins & Dives" so, naturally we had to check it out. During our first visit, we ordered the Lunch Special. It was a lamb shank w/mint sauce and a side of mashed potatoes. Lamb is a dish that's not easy to get right but Grampa's cooks were up to the task. The dish was tender, tasty and augmented with a most pleasing brown gravy. The addition of the mashed potatoes took me straight to comfort food land. The morning we were to drive home, we made sure to breakfast at Grampa's and had to share the tasty omelet---it simply overwhelmed the plate. My mouth still waters at the thought. A great diner and a great dining experience.

Visited on Sunday, 8/28/2011 for breakfast at about 9:30 AM. It was very busy --- luckily got the last parking spot and made it right in for the last remaining table (a booth). Despite it being very busy, we were greeted right away by our waitress. She filled up our coffee mugs and had a fresh plate of warm, sticky, cinnamon sugar danishes for us. The danishes were delicious. The waitress returned after about two minutes to check with us for our orders. She was helpful to go over the two specials of the day: Eggs benedict ($8.29) and chicken fried steak ($8.99). My girlfriend loves eggs benedict and picked that as her breakfast. I love chicken fried steak and I picked that. Our coffee was refilled just a moment before we received our mammoth-sized breakfast orders. The eggs benedict special was 2 basted eggs, two big slices of ham, two English muffin halves, a very generous topping of hollandaise, with a side of hashbrowns. My chicken fried steak was about 8 ounces of chicken fried steak topped with a heaping serving of white sausage gravy, a side of hashbrowns, two eggs sunny-side up, and a giant homemade Southern biscuit. My girlfriend eats eggs benedict anytime we go out for breakfast and proclaimed it one of the best she's ever had. I got to sample some of hers and I agree that Grampa's does a great eggs benedict. There was not a single flaw I could find in it: the egg was cooked properly, the ham was tender and tasty, the hollandaise rich and velvety, and the muffin was nicely toasted. To begin about my review of my chicken fried steak special -- I was not able to finish the order because there was so much food. It was a delicious plate. The chicken fried steak had a nice crispness, but still was tender inside. The sausage gravy was not the best I've had, but it was good (I prefer mine made with a spicier sausage). The sunny-side up eggs were perfectly fried. The hashbrowns were nicely cooked and not the greasy concoction you usually will find at a breakfast joint. And the biscuit was outstanding and huge! Overall, Grampa's is the perfect place for breakfast if you're in the Fort Lauderdale area. Breakfast at our hotel would have easily been double what we paid at Grampa's. The food is delicious and the portions big. The service was speedy and friendly even though the diner was full. I need to check Grampa's out for dinner next time I'm in town.

I took my wife to Grandpa's Bakery for breakfast. We both ordered the eggs Benedict. Mine came out perfect, hers, well, was hard boiled. She told the waiter, who gladly returned her order to the cook and she got eggs, sunny side up, not blanched, as they are supposed to be. She didn't want to return her order, and needless to say, we were not happy. The waiter comped our entire meal. This is the only reason I am giving it 2 stars instead of only 1. The cinnamon rolls were good though!

On vacation in Fort Lauderdale, my boyfriend and I came here on a Monday, but got here as they were closing (3pm), so be aware that they do close early on Mondays. We ended up going back on a Saturday morning, and glad we did. The food was fantastic! We both ordered french toast, which we agreed was the best either of us has ever eaten. The bread is a really thick, sourdough and you get 4 wedges (and that is a half order). We were told when we ordered that that was a lot of food and didn't we want half orders instead. I was skeptical that that would be enough, but it was just right. They also gave us an assortment of danishes upon arriving, which were awesome! I could have filled up on those alone. My only drawback to this restaurant is that I was charged $2 for my coffee, which never got refilled. I actually don't know if I saw anyone getting refills, so maybe they don't do that. It would have been great if they had just sat a carafe of coffee on the table, like most diners. All in all, a great place for a hot breakfast.

A big thumbs down for this establishment for dinner! We started with soup, mine was lentil which was only lukewarm with raw bacon in it. My husband had the seafood chowder which was piping hot and he liked it. He ordered the "OssoBuco" for dinner, it was a far cry from what it should have been. It was extremely fatty with hardly any meat over spaghetti which was so overlooked it was mushy. Worst meal my husband ever had in a restaurant. I had the misfortune of ordering the broiled seafood platter which was supposed to be Mahi, shrimp and scallops in a lemon butter sauce. When it first came out the mashed potatoes and string beans were ice cold. Sent it back, had asked for no paprika on the seafood, it came out with paprika. The Mahi was rancid and inedible, scallops tough and bitter. I sent this back also, the waitress was very apologetic and offered to let me order something else. I ended up with a corned beef sandwich for dinner, which was fine. They made this place look so tempting on DDD, sadly it just isn't so for dinner.

Even though my burger was a little overdone, the service was on the slow side, and we were the youngest people there by about 30 years, I was still very pleased. My burger was tasty and not too messy, the toppings fresh and crisp, the kaiser roll chewy and not too crumbly, and the crinkle fries perfectly cooked. Most intriguing is that they serve breakfast 'till 3 p.m. every day - you pay for your food in their bakery, and everything in there looked amazing.

This is a five star dinner, when you read the reviews please consider their source, this area is crawling with jack ass people from the NE coast that are bitter and hard to please.

Terribly disappointed. This was just the kind of diner I was looking for to take my wife for breakfast. The service started out great, the free danish served when we were seated tasted great, and the people watching and vibe of the place did not disappoint. Then we got our food. It was pretty dismal. My wife's waffle tasted fine, but there was huge black chunks of burnt stuff mixed throughout. Gross. And her bacon was cold and tasted like chicken. Gross. My biscuits and gravy tasted so-so but looked disgusting. Not very appetizing. Gross. Then our waitress went from being on the ball to completely ignoring us when we wanted our bill. Huge disappointment.

Slow service, got it wrong; but made up for it with the free cake (it was good & big). The food was good but not great. My chicken tasted like it had been cooked in old or burnt oil. Bakery was great, Guy is staring to let me down, with his recommendations (second let down while following DDD trail). At night I felt like we were going to get mugged parking on the street near the back of the building (light up the area!).

Was in Hollywood one Sunday morning heading home so decided to go to Grampa's since we saw it on Diners, Drive-in's and Dives - eh, it was breakfast - people were yelling - nothing spectacular. They got lucky being on TV - possibly they do have great evening meals, but a bit down home for me. I can get my eggs over easy and bacon anywhere! :)

I am sad to say that on my past few visits I have been extremely disappointed. I will not go back for dinner. The service that I have received has also gone downhill. They still have a yummy bakery and breakfast though.

Went for breakfast today with "Mando". Parking was an issue, Grandpas lot was full. The lot across the street to the south was empty so I locked on. As we were exiting the vehicle a young lady from Grandpas told us that towing is strictly enforced in that lot. I don't know why she was in the parking lot. I ended up parking in the street to the west, not too far away. So while we were eating we saw the tow trucks, yes, multiple tow trucks, descend on the lot, apparently the owner of that plaza prefers to scare away as many possible customers as possible. So DO NOT PARK IN THE LOT TO THE SOUTH OF GRANDPAS. Breakfast was OK. The extra danishes were cool. Service was a little on the slow side and I received wheat toast but ordered rye. I didn't bother sending it back. I'm one of those types that likes to have the toast brought out with the meal. I won't eat my meal until the toast arrives (Is that a. retentive?). Well after awhile of waiting with my food in front of me I would have eaten a piece of toast off the floor. Hash browns were the frozen kind get grilled with some oil. Not my fav. Coffee was above-average-tasty. My eggs were slightly overcooked. "Mando" was real happy with his breakfast, but then again he got what he ordered, H&C omelet. Nothing special here for me. If you put this place up against Lester's, I would go to Lester's.

I had a massive corned beef here on a quiet Saturday. That was all fatty and greasy and SOOO good. Then, I had a great cream puff for dessert! The bakery is DEFINITELY worth a trip. This is one not to pass up, and all you expect from a nice quiet roadside diner in South Florida. WATCH WHERE YOU PARK!! :-)

Went here for a quick breakfast and got the A+ treatment, we sat at the bar where the pickup window was and listened to all of the 40+ year old waitresses talk crap about each other and make fun of their customers, it was grand. They were all very nice and almost every single one of them asked if everything was alright. The food was the typical greasy spoon diner stuff, and the prices were ok, I would have gave it a 5, but the waitress at the register told us we couldn't split out bill...so whatever.

Went Yesterday after father in-law saw it on "Diner, Drive-Ins and Dives" was a little skeptical after reading the reviews, but decided to try anyway. Actually it was really good, I had the Ruben w/Onion Rings, Dad had a Turkey Leg, Mom had a Fruit Salad, it was really good food with an exceptional nice waitress, would definatley go again. We got right in, parked up front. I Would recommend trying it!

sorry, Guy Fieri- went there on your recommendation- was a disappointment. Slow, unattentive waitperson- not worth going to in my estimation. Bakery goods looked like a grocery store bakery- nothing looked enticing. "we only get stuff in once a day" they chirped when I asked how old some of the pastries were.

yuck, oh you poor Floridians must be sooo hungry!! This is by far the worst breakfast I have ever had...and I am not joking. I am not a disgruntled visitor, just one who unfortunately seen the "dives" episode, and he probably had no choice in the matter...poor guy. I seen all the reviews, drove a few miles to get there, it was busy so I thought "wow, maybe it is good." The only thing good about it was the man treat who sat us down at our outdated 70's table. The pancakes are like rubber, the eggs taste "eggy" or maybe just old, the hash browns were excessively bleeding grease, the donuts...the worst. Then I started to look around at the other customers which had no teeth, and yes there was a few of those and its not an exaggeration...so save your money make breakfast at home, even your worst food you make is still better than this, hey try McDonald's pancakes....way better. Its not a "grease spoon" its a "grease Ladle"
