Ate there yesterday for lunch. Had the pulled pork, baked potato and corn on the cob. Very bland. No flavor to the pork at all. I have a smoker at my house and will normally smoke a pork butt over a long weekend, so I know BBQ. There was no smoke flavor or "bark" at all. The BBQ sauces on the table were horrible. My waitress was awesome and it had a nice atmosphere, but oh my, I will never go back.

Had the patty melt and open faced beef special for lunch. Overall the patty melt was bland and overpriced. Fast food burger joints offer better quality and taste at a lower price. The open-faced beef special was not very. Dry & bland best describe the beef. The sides tasted like they were out of can. Overall, the open-faced beef special resembled a TV dinner. Food was also slow to come out. Would not recommend eating here unless it was the only place open. The service was friendly. Summary: over-priced, poor quality / tasting food but with good service; avoid if possible.

Extremely good and tender pulled pork, they took very good care of us and was a nice dinner! Definitely will come back when in the area!

Will never dine there again....I ordered a dinner for two and the ribs came out like ribblets instead of ribs. It was a take out order so when I got home and looked into the platter it looked like someone cut the ribs in half! They gave you four small little pieces! I called to complain about the portion sizes, so the manager said they had to call the owner to get anything compromised! Which means the mgr has no power! They say they don't do refunds by the way! So never again will I support this local restaurants for BBQ! I will go to sonny bbq... Where they will give you regular portions and not charge you for table scraps! This is the first time I have ever been to a food place where a mgr had no power or control to make decisions! I love local businesses but they got it wrong! Bottom line I paid $25 plus tip for a nibblets and a under cooked baked potato. If anyone has a problem with what I wrote go there and be disappointed.

The food was average and so was the service. If you're looking for BBQ, you could do worse but, for me, this place paled in comparison to other BBQ places in the area which knocks it down a bit. The pulled pork was more of a slow cooker pork stewing in a bowl of juices so, if that's your thing, this may be the place for you. The baked beans weren't memorable enough to make comments about them.

First time here. Building on the outside was larger and newer than I expected based on the reviews. Very busy which is always a good sign. Very prompt hostess, seated right away (it was noon) and friendly, fast server. Food: New Brunswick stew delicious with slow cooked taste. Barbecue sauces were all excellent but can't describe them by saying sweet, regular, or hot. My favorite is closer to the mustard kind which has more vinegar. Sliced pork was tender and juicy. Sandwich served on a soft white hamburger bun. Cleanliness: shop kept tidy! ;) Prices: more for less.! lots of choices under $8. For a Casual Barbeque place this is great!

Wanted to like it but food was inedible. Ordered Ribs that on the menu said they were dry rub they came slathered in their "house" sauce which was gross. Ribs were covered in fat. My mom ordered apple cobbler which was canned apples still frozen in the middle on mushy bread.

Good food, excellent service. Coleslaw was excellent. Burger was very good, only wish they would have toasted the bun to keep it from dissentigrating. Hubby had the short ribs and they looked great and since he didn't utter a weird until they were almost gone I assume they tasted great. The sides were all good. Overall a good place. Will we be back? Maybe if we are in the area but we wouldn't make a special trip.

So I love Bbq. Sadly, I eat too much. That's why I like Kay's. Along with the usual, they offer some salads. I usually get the chicken Caesar with the mesquite smoked flavor. If I'm feeling guilty, I have them hold the croutons....

We usually dine at a chain BBQ restaurant, however we were on the other side of the bridge & it was late-so we made a decision to dine at Kay's BBQ. What an error in judgement that was! The pulled pork I ordered was almost warm, however very bland. The macaroni & cheese was over cooked & bland. The mashed potatoes were very bland. The bread that came with the meal was soggy as it was placed on the plate next to the pulled pork soaking up some sort of runny, watery bland juice. The waitress was kind & the tables nice, but we went there for a good meal which we failed to get! We certainly will NOT be dining @ Kay's BBQ nor will we recommend that anyone interested in BBQ dine there!

Chef salad was huge and the vegetables were fresh! Just wish they cut the egg and veggies up.

For the area it's ok. Nothing special or fancy, average food with average BBQ menu. I was alarmed to see a server holding a tray with food items touching her hair, perhaps they could do better by having runners or other servers help run big tables so they don't overload the trays. I would have given three stars, but then I remembered that my dish had some gum stuck to it and it was gross.

After driving right past this place a few hundred times, we decided to stop by and give it a try. It is quiet early on a Sunday evening. The service is friendly and prompt. My wife and I ordered the dinner for two. I was not ready for the platter of food that came out. We did not have a prayer of finishing it. I am a 240 pound bodybuilder looking for a protein fix. And I got it. Nothing at all to complain about. Great job!

I'm not sure where the negative reviews are coming from...? We came in, were immediately seated and our food came within 6 minutes. It was DELICIOUS. Our server was attentive and refilled our drinks several times. We got the platter for two and it would have fed four, lol!

Complete waste of time.. Save your money and time eat else where. We waited over 20 mins for someone to take our order. As we tried to pay for our drinks and walk out the girl comes from the back, looks like she was eating, and asked if she could take our oder. Nope going else where!!! Will not return here ever..

Kay's Real Pit BBQ - Where You Feel like Family Kay Keller must be doing something right. Since 1981, she has been in the restaurant business. Kay and her husband, Jesse, now deceased, owned and operated the original Fat Boys Restaurant, which was very popular with the astronauts before the place became Kay's BBQ. Perhaps Kay's BBQ is so popular because all her sauces are made from scratch. Maybe, it is because the Barbecue Beans, Coleslaw and Brunswick Stew are also made from scratch, Could it be because the restaurant grinds the hamburger meat from 100% Top Round Beef or because it grinds the breakfast sausage from fresh pork adding its own special spices? I think that all these things make Kay's BBQ so successful. I also think it's because people love the great value they get and appreciate the friendly service they receive when they dine here. Kay's BBQ isn't just about BBQ although most of its loyal customers do come here for the smoky flavor of the slow cooked Ribs, Pulled Pork and Chicken. It is just as famous for the Buckhead Strip Steaks, Ribeye (Kay's personal favorite,) Fried or Grilled Chicken and Southwestern dishes. Breakfasts are also quite popular. Kay's BBQ is a very comfortable place to dine. The restaurant does not have a fancy ambiance by any means. I think that the locals who eat here come for the food not the ambiance. I ate here many years ago and only recently returned when a group of people I eat out with chose the place for our monthly get together. I live a little bit of a distance from Kay's BBQ which is why I hadn't returned before this visit. It was off my radar so to speak. One recent Wednesday, about 35 of us dined together in the back room. Many of the comfortable looking booths were occupied in the main dining area already even though it was way before 12 noon. Our group members arrived at varying times. As each long table filled, the servers took our orders. So, our food arrived at different times. Since this was a social gathering, no one was in a real rush to eat. I do not think that the restaurant expected so many of us for lunch as utensils and menus were only laid out for around 25 diners. The two servers assigned to us were hard working and were busy the whole time. I think that they did a good job considering our numbers. They did their very best under difficult circumstances. We each had individual checks, also. Our server Trish was very friendly and carefully took our orders. Many of us had special requests and made substitutions. Everyone received the correct meal. She patiently answered all our questions with a smile. After perusing the charming, old fashioned-looking menu already placed with our utensils, I decided on the Southwestern Chicken Quesadilla Dinner - $7.99. It is also available as Cheese Quesadilla Dinner for $6.50. Have it as an appetizer for $6.99. My huge meal came with two sides and I had a difficult time choosing from a long list of them. I finally settled on Garlic Bread and a Baked Potato. The Garlic Bread slices were thick and delicious. The big Baked Potato was hot and cooked to perfection, foil wrapped and served with sour cream and butter. The Quesadillas filled my plate and I had to take half of them home with me including the included tangy Salsa. They were steaming hot and delicious. Right then, I decided that I had to return there soon. Others at my table ordered the Lunch Specials - Pulled Pork - $7.35, the Ribs Combo Lunch, $10.95 or the St Louis Pork Ribs - $9.99. Everyone's meal came out hot and as ordered although not at the same time. The Lunch Specials come with two slices of garlic bread and a choice of two sides. There are also choices on the Senior Menu - St. Louis Ribs, $7.99, served with your choice of potato, slice of Garlic Bread, BBQ Beans and coleslaw. Alternatively, choose Beef, Pork or Pulled Pork served with the same sides listed just above. Another choice is BBQ Chicken - $7.10 or White Meat - $7.60. If nothing mentioned here sounds appealing to you, be assured there are Burgers, Wraps, Seafood, Steaks, Soups, Salads and Grilled Cheese on the menu. If you cannot make up your mind, choose a Rib combo, a Sampler or, even Create Your Own Seafood Platter. Although I rarely dine out for breakfast, I'll be back for the French Toast Platter one of these days.

One of the best Brevard county spots for good Florida styled BBQ. This place is a part of BBQ history- Sonny Tillman, founder of Sonny's BBQ worked in Kay's kitchen once when this was a Fat Boys. Kay was married to the founder and owner of Fat Boys.

Just ordered take out from Kay's for lunch, and I gotta say, I'm happy. Ordered a regular cheese burger with sweet potato fries and their bbq baked beans. Delicious. The food was nice and hot, burger cooked exactly how I requested (medium), the beans and fries were yummy. The burger was the perfect sized burger, too. Big enough to feel appreciative of the delicious burger you're about to eat, but not so big that you end up leaving half of it because you simply couldn't eat it all. Just the perfect size. Price was very reasonable for lunch. All in all, I am happy to have treated myself to lunch today. At the very least, I'm a fan of their burger and baked beans :D

Kay's is a nice local place with a down-home feel. Stick with the barbecued pulled pork. The sweet potato fries and baked beans are good, too.

Family of 4 had dinner here - menu had lots of choices for sides and prices were reasonable, but nothing tasted good. Mac n cheese, green beans, buns, bread were all disappointing. Fries and cole slaw were fine as were the entrees. 'regular' sized pulled pork sandwich had very little meat, and i am not a big eater at all. Kids' size meals also had too small meat portions. The host was terrible, but the table service was fine. Would not return.

I tried Kay's twice before writing this review. The first time I had the pulled pork and ribs. The second time I had the chicken. Kay's is an above average but undistinguished barbeque restaurant. They get the job done but for Barbeque there are certainly better options in the Space Coast. My summary of the menu items is as follows: Pork B+ Ribs: B+ Sauce: C. The regular sauce is a mild sauce and is just pretty bland. There is nothing interesting or special about it. The sweet sauce is the mild sauce with what tastes like honey and sugar added. These sauces are not as good as the better choices at Publix. I did not try the hot sauce. Chicken: D: Skip the chicken. I had a white meat quarter. It was overcooked, dry and hard. Yuck. I was looking for some pinkness inside to show signs of smoking but could not find any. No signs of a good rub on the skin. Perhaps a D is do generous a grade for this chicken. The best barbecue chicken options in the Space Coast that I have tried are J.C.'s BBQ on Aurora in Melbourne and Hog Wild Bar-B-Q on Maple Avenue in Melbourne. There is better and fresher chicken spinning on rotisseries as your read this at supermarkets across America. I would be embarrassed to serve chicken this bad. Sides: B: The first time I tried their Mac & Cheese ( 4 months ago) it was terrific. Yesterday is was just O.K. The Mac is homemade. There are signs of fresh real cheese. This is no Kraft Dinner. I suspect the first time I got a fresh batch on a busy weekend and the next time when I showed up for an early weekday lunch I got "leftovers." There baked beans are good. Ice Tea: A-: Brewed fresh, available in sweet and "un" regularly replenished, last refill in a "go" cup.

Really a huge dissapointment. My husband ordered the "Fried Chicken" and we got what could only be one of those bake at home store bought frozen chicken meals. There is no way this was homemade fried chicken. Greasy and fat. I was thrilled initially when my sampler platter came, until I tasted it. The "smoked turkey" was deli lunch meat, so was the beef. Ribs where old and chewy and the BBQ chicken was cold and tasteless. No disceranable "Smoke" flavor in anything. French Fries were good. By far one of the worst meals we have ever eaten. Service was friendly, but after she served our meal, she dissappeared. We had to actually go to the counter for our bill and even there we waited while 4 servers walked past.

Kay's Barb-B-Que and Steaks has amazing sweet potato french fries as well as other classic barbeque food. The small family restaurant also makes their own BBQ sauce which is really good. The food, particularly the meat, wasn't amazing but the portions were large, dinners including two sides. They also had a nice kid's menu and friendly service. We enjoyed having most of the restaurant to ourselves after a long day.
