Never have I been so disgusted in a restaurant in my life. I have lived in Cocoa/Rockledge for 25 years and have never been to Grandpa's until last month. I wish I would've never went. As soon as walked through the entrance I knew this visit was not going to go well. The smell in that place is detestable.Mold, mold, mold! The hostess looked and acted miserable. No "hello how are you" or "welcome", just "how many?' She sounded like she was in pain. She walked us to the back of the "train" and brought us to the table. We sat down and she just walked away. She didn't say 2 words except for "how many" when we came through the door. There were other people eating around us but the restaurant was dead quiet. The other patrons looked like they were at a funeral and all of a sudden I felt like I was. My boyfriend and I sat there not knowing what to do. We had no menus in front of us, no silverware, nothing! We stared at eachother for a few seconds and then I looked up at the light fixture right above me about 3 feet and noticed the cobwebs in it. Finally our server comes. Very nice kid, but didn't look professional at all. He brought us the menus which I felt that the hostess should have brought in the beginning. He got our drink orders and walked away. My boyfriend and I could not handle the stench in the air. We had to leave. We told our server sorry but there was nothing on the menu that appealed to us which really there wasn't. Not much of a menu at all. We felt bad for the kid and paid for the drinks. I even gave the poor kid 3 dollars for the trouble. I am a server as well and sympathized with him. The hostess looked even more miserable when we were leaving. On the way out I noticed the sign for $2.00 excessive waste fee for the salad bar and my mouth dropped. I felt like I was on candid camera or worse a nightmare.

Sucks more than anything that I suggested grandpas crap house for a family birthday dinner. Being that I've been a server before, I understand how things work and being busy (weeded) can slow you down. This is no excuse for the terrible service that my family received. I can't speak for everyone's food but seeing how bad a simple burger was I can't even imagine what the rest was like. As for everyone that has previously said anything about it smelling like death, it might be that the bathrooms are 5ft from the salad bar and it's this way from day 1. It also smells like death being that it's been open for at least 30 years and it shows, I don't think they've done a single thing to renovate this place after it's grand opening. Oh and when you order a burger and try to tell your waitress the toppings, she tells you "I'll worry about that later", that's when I should have walked out knowing it was all going down hill from that point on. Finally when the food shows up I receive a plain bacon cheese burger with 0 toppings, I then ask about the toppings since I was never asked what I wanted on my burger (even after I had tried to ask for them earlier) She proceeds to pass out everyone's food and drops the top half of the burgers bun on the ground. After I finally tell her, lettuce, pickles, ketchup, mayo and mustard she walks away to get the top half of the bun and condiments. 5-10 minutes later she brings a plate with every burger topping someone could ask for on a big plate for me to share with the other guy that got the exact same burger as myself. We didn't want onions or tomatoes, so if she was going to just toss a bunch of crap on a plate for us to dig through, why wouldn't she have just done this in the first place?! Now that my burgers room temperature I finally got to bite into it, it was like biting into a well over cooked dry tasteless burger that was reheated and left out. I asked her for some ranch when she came back, she then tells me that they have some at the salad bar and that if I'd like some I'm more than welcome to go get some that's across the restaurant. (she has to walk by this salad bar when she comes out if the kitchen) Absolutely mind blown on how terrible the experience here was and know that they're getting 1 star as 0 stars isn't an option. You couldn't pay me to come back and I will bash this place any chance I get as I'd hate for anyone else to experience this overpriced joke of a restaurant. Also know that I made this yelp account just so I could warn everyone else about this place.

Just ate here for the first time! I will admit that I had my doubts based on the looks of the place on the outside, but my experience was great! AMAZING steak, with nightly specials and not too crazy prices. Not to mention the salad bar was really great-I could have made a meal out of just the salad! Don't judge a book by it's cover-- this place surprised me! Also as far as the previous smell comments-maybe they have since fixed the problem, because the only thing I smelled was steak! Yum!

Just in today and had a great lunch. I don't know what people are talking about with smells, I smelled good food at that was it. Yes the decor is old fashioned but I was there to eat, not judge the knick knacks. Quiet place not full of tourists.

Great salad bar, friendly and welcoming staff, amazing food, and neat venue. I've been here many times and Grandpa's never disappoints.

Grandpa's Steakhouse is a very "different" restaurant. Well, we went there last Saturday with our children. At first, when you come in the blonde lady was very attentive and sat us down. Then a 9 years old child came and gave us the menus (he is the "grandson") which I found very cute, because it teaches kids responsiblities. The waiter Kyle was very nice and was always making sure our table had everything we needed. The bad part comes when my daughter was reading the menu and got comfortable on the chair, she crossed one of her legs on the chair and left the flip-flop on the floor. One of the ladies that works there came to our table and said to my daughter "please put your shoes on". That was the first tip for us to just pay for the sodas and walk out. My husband said, let's give them the benefit of the dought, she is only an employee. In this place you feel like you are a child, "if you don't eat everything on your plate, we will charge you for excess waste"... It was not free, we are paying for the meal! Then, the chicken nuggets my son ordered were raw, who does not know how to make chicken nuggets? Even a child knows how to fry frozen food and know when it's done. The steaks were good, that! I have to admit, but the place was old, moldy and it did not looked clean. The mayority of the staff are all retired people, so everything there look old. If you are in the area, try something different, to this "train" restaurant we will not come back and we will not recommend to our friends.

Well Grandpa's has a lot of personality - and kids like it because it looks like a cave/train station. Which is weird but whatever. When you go in - the staff just sort of look at you - then you notice the smell not the Mmmmm smell but the oh ugh what is that mold? smell. The whole place smells musty moldy and it is DIRTY. Having worked in restaurants for 1/2 of my life, if the restaurant area is dirty and the bathrooms are dirty the KITCHEN is a mess! Anyway they have a good menu - if the food was cooked decently and if it was fresh it'd be a great place to eat alas... frozen fish, meat that tastes like it was frozen just minutes before turning rancid or maybe it was rancid - it was so on the edge if they hadn't burned it to death I prolly would have got some kind of food borne illness. NO DESSERTS either - just some pudding on the salad bar AND if you dont eat everything on your plate from the salad bar they get MAD at you and charge you EXTRA! Take a few more minutes and drive to Carabbas on Merritt Island or go to Corky Bells in Port St. John... Update: Sadly corky bells is closed now

It's a great place IF you like pan fried frozen meat and want to catch a disease. Free pets too! Dozens of cats roaming around the restaurant which tells me plenty of food for them to eat aka rodents! Waitress didn't know the difference between 32 and 64 ounce beers! Great for entertainment!

Wow. What a find!! Starting with the salad bar- top notch and super fresh! Over 100 items. The prime rib was the best I have ever had or very close. My go to prime rib is Lawrys but candidly this place has it right. The hands on owner is working the crowds to make sure everything is perfect. Don't judge a book by it's over!

The place looks really sketchy but the locals love it! You eat in an old train car which is cool, the rest of he place looks like a train going through a rock cave from the outside. there are a bunch of stray cats outside that apparently live there and watch you eat :) the salad bar is great- and free with meals as long as you don't leave waste- if you do they charge $2. The steaks are good, as well as the burgers! They are known for their prime rib. The gift shop area is really weird but I didn't go there to shop. :) the restaurant is definitely worth the stop.

I'd never been to Grandpa's before two weeks ago, and I've already been back a second time. The salad bar is SO good and everything is fresh. Whoever cautioned you not to judge a book by its cover had it right, but the food is spot on. And Dawn is an outstanding server.

This is by far the best deal in Cocoa! 80 item salad bar with daily lunch specials. Wednesdays are my favorite! For 6.99 salad bar soup all you can eat with sirloin beef tips and mashed potatoes and gravy. Any place that has been open for 34 years must be doing something right! A lot of things right in my professional opinion. All the bad reviews below should and need to be over looked. Ask for Jamie .. Cant beat grandpas meat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A quaint Florida atmosphere, charming in an old Florida way though it was dingy inside and had an interesting odor of old stuff which we had been collected from various knick knack joints in garage sales all of which was for sale. service and friendliness was excellent salad bar was fresh and had large selection. I had the blackened chicken with baked potato it was a boneless breast I would've preferred it on the on the bone. unfortunately upon entering one notices a stale odor, a mixture of danknass and old carpeting type smell. this part of Cocoa Florida has very little to choose from not sure if I can offer an alternative. I won't be going back.

Excellent, always good, best salad bar around, with 80 different items of fresh food. Lunch is inexpensive. We will definitely go back.

Someone made the remark that I should have had less drinks. No one at our table had alcohol. Interesting. Maybe the owners remark

We have been here multiple times and have always ordered the prime rib and the great 2 for 1 drink specials. With that comes the salad bar with lots and lots of selections. So for those of you that give this place bad marks, READ what they specialize in, steaks, a fresh complete salad bar and homemade soup. Early Bird specials, nightly specials, 2 for 1 drinks on well drinks, wine, and draft. The prices are great and the greeter needs to get a personality, she has never been very friendly. The wait staff are always great. The $2 charge for wasting food is a little strange but I have seen people in restaurants where they pile on large quantities of food on their plate and eat like a bird and waste the rest. So yes I understand why they say that. The place has been around since 1979, so I'm confused about all the bad reviews. Anyhow, I will continue to get their specialties and continue to enjoy good food at a great value.

This is - by order of magnitude - the nastiest restaurant I've ever dined in. Forget the food (above average) or the service (decent enough) and focus on the skank. It was truly as assault on all senses (and that was /before/ I went to the men's room.) the decor was an absolute nightmare. The lighting was like a prison. Way too loud. And don't get me started with the smell. if you're a fan of John Waters flicks, you'll love this place. Otherwise it's best to avoid this spot at any cost.

Smells like urine. Prime rib flavorless and overcooked. Very nice waitress named Michelle who took our table after we had been ignored by others. Salad bar is nasty - temperatures have GOT to be wrong. Bathrooms are like a fish camp - smelly, old, worn. When was the last time the health department inspected here? Cave/dining car building is bizarre. We only ate here because we were exhausted. Big notice on menu that a $2 "waste charge" will be applied if you don't finish your plate from the salad bar. WHA??? The boy who brought us our menus was nice and I thought it was cool that he helps out at the family restaurant. I was sure to tell my friends at the weekend event I was attending nearby not to go here, and I would never recommend it to anyone. Yuck.

This place is nasty. It's super grungy, infested with filthy and attitude-filled employees who don't show much attention to their customers, and the food had me pukin up a storm 2 hours after I left. Salad bar SUCKED, and their mash potatoes tasted like what cat piss smells like. Worst. experience. ever.
