Food was ok. The raw oysters were not good old, soggy and warm. I usually can eat 3 dozen or more of raw oysters but after a few i gave up.However, calamari was good. I had better fried gator bite.

4 stars but kinda 2. This place is pretty good - it felt way more "key westy" than it needed maybe but was still a fun place all in all. Went for dinner on a Friday evening - food was decent waitress was good, live music was good - though he was missing a lot of teeth and sang Jimmy buffet almost the whole time adding to the key west feel I guess... And you cant beat $2 PBR tallboys on a resort island!!! I gave an extra star for that btw. Oh also it had outdoor seating. Oddly, for a resort island there is not a ton of outdoor eating options... Go figure - extra star for that also. I had blackened tuna and requested it rare and it was cooked just right. Otherwise as mentioned things are pricey for the quality you get but don't hold it against this one place, the whole island seems to be like that. You pay a lot for almost mediocre food. Anyway, walked next door to bubble room for dessert but that's another review....

A great place to enjoy fantastic local fare (I had the most delicious swordfish fajitas here) and good island-style music, RC Otters Island Eats is the perfect island dining experience. Be sure to ask to be seated outside so you can enjoy dining alfresco under the stars.

Pleasant, relaxed atmosphere. Great breakfasts. Friendly and efficient staff. We would go there again.

FRESH fish, FRESH seafood, FRESH vegetables, and nice COLD beer!!! What else could you ask for on vacation? The service is a little too informal for my taste, but the food speaks for itself! Shows they really take pride in their offerings! The only thing to avoid is the fried calamari appetizer because it is obviously frozen and comes out chewy. However, the sauce served with it was actually pretty tasty!

Great affordable restaurant. They have a variety of seafood, sandwiches, salads, and even a little Mexican items on the menu. Definitely something for everyone. It's a very laid back atmosphere so it's perfect for kids.

We ate breakfast there three days in a row. I had the Crab Bennies the first day and they were outstanding. The next day I had the regular Eggs Benedict and it was good, the poached egg was a little overdone but still good. The last day I had the Buttermilk Pancakes they were light and fluffy and full of flavor. The service was excellent all three days they were attentive but not hovering and were full of suggestions of what to do in Captiva.

Been going to Captiva for 35yrs and stop at RC Otters every time. The breakfast is amazing. Everything is made fresh, portions excellent and the prices are good. We also go for dinner which is also very good Most of the seating is outdoors and they have live music certain times of the day. So check the weather and bring some bug spray. Welcome to Florida! I would love for them to bring back an old menu item. They used to make a seafood oil served in a pot. The broth was delicious and it was full of clams, shrimp, etc. Pretty sure lobster tails in certain versions too. Don't think they make the pot anymore. But everything else is good.

Family friendly. Kid friendly. Good sandwiches and seafood options. Went there for lunch. Had French dip, which was great.

Nothing bad to say! Joe was our server and he was great! So relaxed, casual and like a "friend". No pressure and knew just when we needed a refill. Food was great, spicy as I would expect from fajitas & salsa! Great spot to visit & relax with the music outdoors!

Great restaurant in Captiva for dinner and live music. The beer list is awesome and the fish is fresh. What more can you ask for. Stop here before dusk then stroll 200 yards to watch the sunset over the beach. It makes a perfect night!

Best food at reasonable prices! Let's face it, you're on an island and it's more costly for everything! At RC Otters, at least they don't rip you off! I had the crunchy fish, wife had grilled grouper on salad. All in all-delicious!

  • Megan D.

The people and the place are welcoming and nice, but the food is best described as 'meh.' We had their signature shrimp and the grouper special and no one was too impressed.

Stopped in last night for a quick beer after dinner. The beer list was decent with multiple Florida based beers, including a delish coconut ale, Big Rod Coconut Ale. It was a bit hot and I think they could've cranked the fans on the deck a little higher to up the relaxing island ambiance. The service was a bit brusque. But we did walk in at closing. Decided to come back for breakfast after seeing other positive reviews and because it was so conveniently located. For breakfast I got the crabby something (not the Benedict the other one with a crab cake). It consisted of a crab cake on top eggs covered in cheese, served with an orange wedge and a cantaloupe slice (fresh fruit side), toast, and potatoes. It was alright, looking back I am not sure about that kind of cheese (maybe Colby jack) on crab meat. The crab cake had a good amount of crab but it wasn't in those good lumps I liked, more shredded texture. The fruit was fresh and flavorful but a pretty small portion. The potatoes were throw away. My husband got the pigs in blanket or something like that and he was fine with it. It came with the same sides. We did have huge portions, we could've easily split the main meal portions between the two of us. The best part of the meal was the service. Cecil (according to the check), was amazing and friendly talking to us with genuine sincerity you don't see in a lot of tourist towns/traps.

The right food at the right price. Captive is very very expensive but this oasis of sanity is a welcoming spot. Live music, a ring game that the kids love, 20 beers on tap that Dad loved and fresh seafood we all enjoyed. Son had the ribs that were huge and very good. I couldn't decide between all the beers but never fear because for $12 I was able to order 4 mini beers in a beer flight. Superb. Plus waitress told us to leave our car parked and walk 1 min down the road to watch the sunset, perfect ending.

Fun place, very casual, good menu with lots of options, very family-friendly. Our recent visit was graced with a very talented Willie-Nelson lookalike playing guitar on the patio while our food needs were tended to by a friendly and more-than-capable wait staff. I do wish they'd get real whipped cream, though. The stuff they use is shelf-stable and kind of plasticky.

Stopped here for dessert, since the bubble room had an hour wait. We had a group of 11 with lots of little kids. It was very family friendly. Kids got giant ice cream sundaes. The key lime pie was the best the adults had every had. Highly recommend.

Drove right past this place and didn't notice it until we hit the general store next door. After the day on the beach we went here for a late lunch. Perfect beach atmosphere with bright colored building, outdoor seating and a gentleman singing and playing guitar off to the side. Waiter was so personable and helpful with menu guestions. My husband did a flight of beer. The kids (actually Mom and Dad too) had fun trying to hook the ring. Once we mastered that they even showed us some trick shots to master. Tried fish tacos for the first time ever, YUM. Everyone enjoyed their meal and would definitely go back if we're lucky enough to return.

"Casual dining - 'anchor' of a memorable night." Our group of 6 had a completely wonderful experience at RC Otter. The restaurant was friendly and so accomodating. The menu is amazingly broad, the food is quite good, though not 'high end' (nor are they trying to be) - the value is excellent. Very casual dress and atmosphere. Feels much like a backyard neighborhood party. There are several restaurants located on the same street - this is the best all around, hands down. Here's what our group did on the recommendation of other friends: We began the evening at The Mucky Duck -dropped some of our group off to find a table outside and order drinks while others of us parked the cars at the lot at the marina near the intersection behind the real estate office and then walked down to join them - We then enjoyed a spectacular sunset while listening to the music. We also ordered several appetizers from the bar - to enjoy out doors with our drinks. After a very casual and fun stay at 'The Duck' we then meandered up the street to RC Otters - where we were immediately greeted and seated - and enjoyed a great meal at very relaxed prices - sitting outside on a perfect evening. Our server was delightful - - so helpful with recommendations. Service was surprisingly fast and efficient - though we never felt rushed - just a great experience. Then we walked on - across the street to The Bubble Room - -where we were warmly greeted and seated - and ordered only dessert - which of course amazed all in our group - and thus ended our 'Progressive Meal' with squeals of delight and huge smiles. As I said - We'd parked at the beginning - in the lot at the marina -- so as we ended our evening, the car was just steps away.. Though the Duck and The Bubble Room are island traditions - I personally think their food has declined sharply through the years - and frankly is generally horrid. The service at The Mucky Duck can also be awful. But this 'progressive meal' allowed us to enjoy the very best of both - and enjoy a GREAT meal to boot. This will be our new "tradition"

Great breakfast here! The "blueberry granola pancakes" are definitely a favorite and very delicious. I have also had the eggs benny and would recommend both. A must try for good breakfast!

Dinner with 3 adults and 3 children on spring break. The crunchy Grouper was absolutely amazing. The crab cakes were pretty good. Wish the crust had a bit more substance. The shrimp pot had lots of vegetables in it. The presentation was lovely and the shrimp was cooked perfectly! Everyone's food was hot when it arrived at the table. The server was sweet and very efficient! The girls at our table were the most excited about the salt scrub in the bathroom. Overall, this will be a tough meal to beat this week!! #swag

I would have given this restaurant higher stars if we had any kind of decent service, but we did not. Do not sit inside if you want your waitress to do more than take your order. I ordered a Sangria, which I never received. The waitress never reappeared until halfway through our meal so I did not bother to remind her. We had a cranky 2 year old who was more than ready to leave but our check never appeared. I finally had to ask the other waitress to relay the message. Our waitress finally brings the bill but walks away before husband can ask her to apply the coupon. Ten minutes later, after we had given up and dug out cash, she reappears - too late we are done! The food wasn't bad and typical of a small island joint. Although I had the Teriyaki cheese quesadilla that had absolutely no teriyaki anywhere. No one in our party ordered seafood but the sandwiches were good.

Great restaurant and a must stop every summer when we visit Captiva. One of the best lobster bisques you'll ever have (when it's the soup of the day) and their fried gulf shrimp are nice and big. Wonderful and friendly service and quick carry out. Sweet deserts too. (Only complaints are the cheap potato chips served in their seafood baskets and calamari, while decent, looks like it was fried out of bag.)

  • Bryony B.

The staff are very nice, and of course the atmosphere is pretty relaxing. The pancakes are ok - everything is OK really. But, nothing spectacular or really unique even. The side of fruit had a good selection, but the raspberries were moldy (hard not to do I know). The potatoes are pretty good. They have mimosas. Overall, easy and not too expensive, but nothing out of the ordinary. They do have a pretty good coffee place right next door.

This was a great breakfast find on Captiva Island! Located on the Main Street (if you want to call it that???) of Captiva, the Yelp reviews led us over here. While most of the reviews are for dinner and drinks, we decided to roll the breakfast dice. I'm glad we did. Excellent food and excellent service. Baylie our waitress was quick to greet us and seat us at a nice table on the porch. I went with the "All You Can Be" (Two eggs your way, potatoes, fresh fruit, a home baked muffin and crispy bacon) Fantastic crispy bacon! My friend went with the breakfast burrito and he said it was one of the better breakfast burritos that he has had. I didn't get a great sense of the decor but it appeared typical "islandy". It looks like they have a little stage outside underneath the gazebo where they have live music at nights. One thing to note is that the parking situation is atrocious in this area. There is also a considerable amount of foot traffic at times which can make things more difficult. Overall it's worth stopping by if you happen to be in Captiva.

Dont bother. The oyster steam pot i had was not good. The broth was excessive and unseasoned, water. Would have been a successful dish if the broth had some flavor and nice chunk of bread to soak it up, they served saltine crackers. The oysters were mostly over cook. The veggies and potatoes were cooked alright but sitting in unseasoned water took any and all flavor from them. My mother ordered her grouper sandwich blackened as offered on the menu. One side was slightly brown and the other was white. She asked the waitress if it was truly blackened and she said she didn't know and took it back to the kitchen. The kitchen sent it right back telling us that it was in fact blackened. Ok, your the cooks... I guess. They act like they're on an island and can get away with selling under par food for high prices to tourist... Oh ya... they are.

My niece really loved the ring toss which was the highlight of our experience. Nothing like having drunk obnoxious waiters explain to why the can't make a fried scallop-hello this it's not brain surgery it's a fried scallop - you not all that.

Really good food I gave it four stars because it was fanatic from the nice good efficient service for four dishes maybe ten minutes if only it was nice Devore compliments the island the only real doubt is that my father would prefer the indoor seating and he was sweating a bit but that's to be expected when your your on an island in July and beating down but in all it was end well and for first time visitors it would be a good suggestion that you you try this place very satisfying.

Great place for dinner and drinks. I had the red beans and rice with shrimp and scallops. They have live music on the weekends. You can easily walk there from the South Seas trolley stop.

The food was not very good. I ordered a shrimp salad and left not feeling very satisfied. I was also in the mood for a tropical drink... They don't have any. Bottom line, I will not come back here.

Food: -Had the Uncle Hanks Famous Fish Reuben, it was okay. The fish needed more flavor, the fries were very good. The Crunchy fish tacos were good needed more flavor and crunch, and the side of black beans. Conch fritters were good a little chewy. Drinks: Piña Colada actually had Rum but was missing all the toppings, Sangria was very good. Service and Appearance: -Service was good; not excellent, Appearance it's a beach shanty. Overall: Pretty good. Just was missing the wow factor.

I'm sure the RC Otter establishment doesn't normally refuse service to paying adult patrons who want to order water, alcoholic beverages and food... But this particular hostess would rather turn patrons away so she could continue playing on her cell phone and gossiping with her friends. The bartender was the only one who would bring water to our pregnant friend, and once we were finally acknowledged, the waiter (Mike) was friendly and polite. But the mood had already been ruined for me. I can't believe that a group of 6 couldn't even order appetizers before the other three ladies returned. I have never been treated so poorly by any resturant, and I have worked in the resturant business for many years. There isn't a wait, and there are several open tables. No reason we couldn't order. We had already been sat. Now, the food was mediocre at best... Typical beach bar fare. But don't bother to eat the crab-artichoke dip. Bland and tasted like canned tuna fish. The seafood pasta was actually delicious, the pasta sauce was very tasty, the fajitas were tender and delicious, and the portabello mushroom was fabulous. My friends seemed satisfied with their food and were happy. All together... I almost wished we had waited the 2 hours for Mucky Duck. But we thought it would be fun to do a progressive dinner as a fellow Yelper suggested. We should have just come for drinks (but they only serve wine and beer). So good luck if anyone comes here, may you have a better experience than we did!

My daughter and I make sure to come by RC Otter's for lunch when we make our beach trip to Captiva. Today was no exception -- we stopped by for a very late (and light, given relatively early dinner reservations) lunch, sharing a Caesar salad and crunchy fish basket. Although it was only one piece, the crunchy fish, which was made with fresh grouper, was phenomenal and made for a great shared meal. Service can be great or somewhat spotty, seemingly dependent on if there are large parties seated or if it's busy. I had to stop a server to order....

The food is pretty good. The fry fish is great but I can not give them a good review because the service is terrible. From the beginning we stand up there for a while and nobody greeted us and all the servers walked by until we asked them and they were like wherever, so we finally sit. They oil for ever with the drinks and I tried two frozen strawberry daiquiri and piña colada both were terrible. They never refill my husband coke and we wait for more than 20 min for lemons and I had to get the crayons for mi kids on my own. Then, the sever charge us twice on our credit card we just saw it in our statement.

  • Debrah H.

Big disappointment. We got fried calamari as an appetizer. Our entrees were seafood quesadilla and shrimp pot. All the food was very bland with no flavor. I gave it a two star review only because we had a good waiter. Been coming to the islands for 8 years and this was first time at rc otters. We won't be back again.

    (2)
  • Lazaro V.

Horrible unfriendly service. Gator bites were hard and chewy along with the fried calamari, very chewy and fishy Obviously old and frozen. Fajitas had little veggies and chicken tasted and look boiled. Chicken fingers tasted as if cooked in shared oil and had lots of gristle. Sodas were watered down. First and last time we will visit RC Otters! Also AC sucked and fans were on reverse.

The grouper reuben was amazing! We enjoyed the island atmosphere with the live music outside and would definitely go back on our next trip to Captiva!

A fun place with a great beer list. Lots of draft options and they even offer flights. I tried the grouper Reuben which was sort of taking things overboard but a very tasty and moist piece of fish nonetheless. The conch fritters are also very tasty and moist. Worth a stop while in Captiva.

GOOD FOOD,GOOD SERVICE, MID-HI $, - Yes definitely have the CRUNCHY GROUPER- it was very good. Best we had so far of this vacation. Had Fried Calamari-kids loved it, Bowl of Clam Chowder-OK, Fish Tacos-Good, Clam Pot-good, Oyster Pot-good. Service was friendly and fast. All in All a Very Good - Good dining experience. SIT OUTSIDE IF YOU CAN. Inside didn't look that great in terms of cleanliness, décor and it was so dark inside. LOVE THE LIVE MUSIC...guy entertainer was sooo funny and talented, played very good music. Parking was a little difficult with very limited spaces. In truth we were a little put off by some of the bad reviews of this place. This was really our escape hatch choice, we tried to go the Lucky Duck for dinner but parking was a nightmare at the Lucky Duck so we gave up and ended up here at RC Otters. So glad we got to experience RC Otter. We had a good time, sat down quickly, food came quickly, was so tasty, friendly efficient waitress, good music entertainment - still we spent over $100. It's expensive living on the island. We can't seem to go anywhere for lunch or dinner without dropping a C note. Only difference is there was definitely no view of the sun setting here but it was an overcast, windy and cold day anyways.

I had the steak and cake and the food was very bland, no flavor, no spices or anything. They basically cooked it and shoved it out. The sides that I had were mashed potatoes and rice, they were both bland just like the steak and crab. The only thing I enjoyed to be honest was the sauce they gave out with my crab cake. The upside was that the service was fast and the steak was properly cooked. My Dad had the quesadilla and he thought the same way. Bland and it was like a frozen dinner. The teriyaki chicken that came inside the quesadilla wasn't flavorful at all which made it even worse. I wouldn't visit again even if I was starving.

This place surprises me-- it's super casual and looks more like a beach bar than a serious-food venue but after eating there 3 times in the last month, I really do recommend the food. I love the black beans & rice bowl topped with blackened grouper. My husband loves the crunchy grouper, and my son swears by the caesar salad topped with steak. Fish tacos are great if you get there before 5, and the sangria is very good. Plus, it's very kid friendly-- live music, games to play, understanding waiters, and a good ice-cream place next door.

Don't judge the book by its cover. Looks like a total dive, but food variety and quality will surprise you. "Bronzed" fresh fish dishes (spice rub that's "like Jamaican jerk with extra cinnamon") are awesome! Crunchy fish (fried grouper) is good. Turkey club was nothing to write home about, but is it ever? Conch fritters were just okay, but artichoke crab dip and conch chowder were pretty good too. Also, impressive draft beer selection. Very convenient if you're staying near Captiva Village.

When my mom, sister and I walked in we thought it was so cute, the host was nice, there was live music playing, we were able to sit outside, the waiter was super friendly. Everything was going great up until we got our check 60 bucks for pico de gallo/chips, 2 salads; which consisted simply of iceberg lettuce, a few croutons and a slab of fish; and rice and beans w/ fish as well. The menu was very poorly put together which caused us to believe our salads were only going to be $10 not $10 on top of the regular price bc we wanted some fish on it. The menu also got us to believe that the price for the rice and beans was just going to go up 3 bucks ($7to$10) bc of the fish but no it was also $10 extra for the fish. This wouldn't have been as bad as it was if the salad wasn't just a pile of iceberg lettuce thrown in a bowl with some Caesar dressing, but sadly it was. Overall not a great experience and probably wont return.

We come at least once when we're in the area for grouper sandwiches. The tacos are great too- the fish is nice and mild and the breading is fantastic. The kids' portion of grouper was super generous, and we loved the option of eating outside.

Solid breakfast. Don't go for the dinner - it's just OK. If you want to check this place out, just go for breakfast, all is pretty good. Entrees for dinner are nothing terrible but nothing special.

  • Michael L.

Great atmosphere, the weather was perfect so we sat outside in the patio. There's live music, and the menu offers a wide range of dishes. The catch of the day sandwich with salmon was delicious. The fried grouper, served with mixed vegetables and fries, was also very good. The prices were reasonable. If I had to nitpick, the service was a bit slow but nothing to complain about.

My family had breakfast here the first morning on the island. Everything we ordered was wonderful and cooked very well. The crab cake eggs benedict was excellent and while we want to try various restaurants on the island I am really wanting to go back and have that again. The blueberry pancakes were golden, light and fluffy, with fresh blueberries and a blueberry sauce to pour over, the eggs all cooked to perfection. The fruit served with each dish were all perfectly ripe and we had to fight our children who wanted to eat everyone's. The service was excellent and fast, the atmosphere laid back and great for kids. In addition, the prices were very reasonable. We all would highly recommend this spot and will probably be back.

I had the seafood fajitas. The fish tasted like nothing. Shrimp wasn't peeled so I had to pick shells out of mouth. Terrible meal. My daughter had chicken fingers.. Overpriced for chicken with potato chips. Slow service. Ugh!

The food was good and the service was alright. They had a big variety of meals to choose from. If you're looking for a quick casual place to eat on Captiva Island this would be good. They had live entertainment while we were there which was pretty loud. I had the shrimp burrito which was good and someone with me got the cheeseburger in paradise and it was HUGE. Their portions were big.

  • Darren R.

Good burgers, but lousy quesadillas and mediocre to bad crab cakes and steak. Music and atmosphere were nice though, that's what drew us in. Unlike other places in Sanibel and Captiva so far, the service was great.

We went here twice during our week long stay on Captiva. Usually this is not our kind of place but with the limited selection of restaurants, we figured we'd give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised the first time. I got a Cuban which was decent. The second time we went I got a buffalo chicken sandwich and my wife got the crunch fish tacos. She said they were the best fish tacos she'd ever had. Playing the ring on the hook game was also a good time.

The food was ok and the service wasn't that great either! Looks like it could be a fun and quaint beach place but it was nothing special. Heard raise reviews about the sweet potato fries and mango sauce so we ordered that, the sauce was disgusting! Our we had to ask for refills our waiter never once asked us. All in all a very disappointing experience!

Get the crunchy grouper!!! Nice place w plenty of atmosphere! Other dishes were ok, typical of resort town. Prices were also higher than should be but rule of supply and demand in play here. Crunchy grouper was very tasty and worth every penny!!!

The service was great(Friday ) during lunch time. Food was good. We had the fish special ( had to be sent back for under cooking but they fixed it) calamari was good. Soup special was very good and small salad was decent size.

Our favorite stop for fried grouper sandwiches! The setting is relaxed and the staff is friendly. The sandwich is a generous size and just fine with the chips. Although, their fries are pretty good, too. We have also been for breakfast and were not disappointed.

Best lunch on the Islands, no question. What prompted me to write this review, however, was how accomodating the staff was in regards to our bulldog, Lola, joining us for lunch. She was brought her own pitcher of ice water and sat happily at our feet enjoying the beautiful weather. Thank you Rc's for making dining with a pet a breeze!

Towards the far end of the Sanibel/Captiva Island Peninsula lies Historic Captiva Village. This is a collection of unique art galleries, boutiques, shops, and restaurants. Parking around here is very tricky. Most restaurants have designated parking for patrons only. RC Otters has a parking lot right in front. Stalk someone for their spot. This charming little outdoor/indoor dining establishment features Live Entertainment, an enormous menu, ample seating indoor/patio/shaded/or unshaded tables, free flowing libations and it is very dog friendly. The moment you walk in there with dog in tow, there is a cold bowl of water set out. Outdoor seating to the right is smack dab in front of live music or for a not so music blasting experience the left side offers nice shaded tables. If the Florida sunshine is too hot for your vacationing body cool off indoor. This is beach restaurant with all the charms of beach activities. Try your hand at "Slinging the ring over the nail". It is a "game" right by the greeter area. Probably, for waiting patrons or to fuel drunken brawls. Whichever, it seems like a fun way to show off. Some of the seasoned staff will lasso the nail in one try and put you to shame. Wonder if there is free booze if you make the nail? The menu is typical island/beach with a host of breakfast, lunch, and dinner items. I've noticed that Breakfast is a big activity in these parts. I wonder if the distinguished population has anything to do with that? This being a family friendly restaurant there is also a kids menu. Breakfast items are eggs, waffle, toast, omelets, pancakes, and fruits. Lunch and Dinner offers Salads, Seafood shucked, steamed, grilled, blackened, baskets, stews, Steaks, sandwiches, platters and pasta. Is there any item this restaurant does not carry? They boast over 100 items, holy molly. After searching and haggling for parking, driving all the way to the end of the island or frolicking in the crystal clear Gulf of Mexico, this is the one stop that caters for all your dining needs. FAMOUS CAPTIVA FISH CHOWDER Tasty tomato based recipe overloaded with savory fresh seafood. Thick, brothy, chunks of seafood. A real treat! FAMOUS BLACK BEANS 'N' RICE An Islander favorite - sided with sour cream, topped with sweet onion bits, salsa and cheese. Rich tomato base, very flavorful. OYSTER ON THE HALF SHELL Half dozen - Fresh, plumb, succulent. No trip to the beach is complete without slurping down a few of these. CRAZY CRAB CAKE Our famous jumbo delicacy served with a tropical mango dip. Nice filler to crab ratio, real chunks of crab in every bite. Mango Dip was heavenly. ANY FISH YOU WISH PLATTER Fresh catch of the day, (Grouper) just the way you like it! (Grilled), bronzed or blackened. See the size of that piece of fish? That is a portion to fill up any cravings. It does not get any fresher than this. The simple grilling allowed the full fish flavors and textures to shine, no frills, no fancy cooking techniques, no manipulation of taste, just straight forward food. Love it! The mash potato and rice held their own. This is the epitomy of island dining. Great food served open air, great music, dog lying in your lap or on the sand, sand in your toes, cold brews, great festive staff, food that speaks for itself, and sun kisses from the Gulf of Mexico. Is there anything better than this?

Had decent meal here. Scallops were perfectly cooked and fish was well seasoned. Fun atmosphere sitting outside with live guitar. Moderately priced. Might go back. Would give 3&1/2 stars if I could.

This is by far one of our favorite restaurants on Captiva! The atmosphere is fabulous with live music, outdoor seating and ring toss! I have never had a bad meal and they have the VERY BEST stone crab and steamed shrimp in the area! You will not be disappointed if you visit! Please ask for Ceisel (not sure if spelling is correct) as a server. He is absolutely wonderful and has always provided great service and a friendly smile!

This is not fancy food, but just plain good. I had the corn flake crusted fish sandwich which was huge, hot, and very good. Dine in or take out and so convenient if your in the center of Captiva.

Had the crunchy fish Reuben it was very good. The atmosphere is great; laid back with a band and family friendly. Not a huge dink menu but I got a sangria and it was good. I would go back.

Had the lobster bisque, needed some sherry and a bit more seasoning. Yeah a bit of salt brings out the flavors shame it wasn't made that way. Conch fritters: well like most places the conch were overcooked, just a blanch and then roll them into that great seasoning! Don't cook them and then roll em and cook em again, they are like rubber!! The service is clearly "family" and while they may work internally, externally your customers want to be served not wait for you to figure out whose waiting on that table.....that said once engaged they roll with a passion. Next was crab cakes Caesar salad, grouper Oscar and rice. Crab cakes were unfortunately just shredded crap and overcooked breading, Could have been really nice but it wasn't. Ceasar salad was probably the highlight: mostly because it was fresh, seasoned just right and had a nice flavor/finish. The grouper oscar was well: a bit of a mess, first the asparagus tasted like canned or frozen cooked til they were limp: kind of like eating baby food, the fish was cooked near perfect and was a nice filet of grouper, the oscar sauce was well....disappointing. Top it all off with a location that has no water view, feels like a tourist trap, and probably makes a killing off the hungry (there are few places that far north on Captiva to choose from) and maybe they don't have to do better people are just dieing to get in.... Gave it 2 stars because of the beer selection, really great selections on tap, great job to the bar manager. Otherwise you'd be a one! I won't ever go back Best of luck, I think there are too many other choices, with a view!

For the price you pay you'd expect great food. Unfortunately that is not the case. The food is only okay. Skip this place when in the Sanibel/Captiva area. There are many other great places to go.

RUDE HOSTESS! The hostess who was there this Sunday afternoon was beyond rude and had major attitude. If we weren't so tired & hungry & had more time to find parking & another place we would've left due to her attitude. Our waitress, while nice, didn't take our order for at least 20 minutes of us sitting there. The family of 4 next to us who were seated seconds before ordered and had already received their food and were eating before the waitress ventured back to the area and we had to ask to give our order. She pretty much forgot about us (3 of us). Once we finally got our food, it was good, but after delivering it and checking on us once seconds after we got it, again our waitress didn't venture to our area until the very end when we almost had to go find her to pay our check. Seems she was covering tables all over the place and was being spread a little thin. At least she was pleasant though when she did show up, but I wouldn't go back to this place if that hostess was there, that's how rude she was & it doesn't make for a nice dining experience when the hostess walks around with attitude & practically shoves the menus at you then walks away with even more attitude before even seating you. FYI, I have NEVER put a bad review on yelp before, but I felt this experience warranted it.

Best lunch on Captiva. Gotta get the fish tacos! Not as great for dinner, but that's why they have Key Lime Bistro across the street.

Genre for rating: seafood, casual You will never have a bad seafood meal here, nor will you have one that knocks your socks off. It's seafood done right, simple, and for the most part, very fresh. Prices are also very reasonable, and RC's is very kids-friendly. Food: *** Service *** Atmosphere *** What I get: whatever the fresh catch is Best bet: when you are in the mood for no frills seafood for a very reasonable price on the island

Overall this place was pretty good. We went on a Wednesday night at 8 and the wait was 30 minutes for 4 of us. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The service was excellent, our Waitress was very prompt with everything and checked in just often enough. The crab cake appetizer was good but a little overpriced considering its size. On the other hand, the fried fish plate was a massive piece of grouper and delicious. The mashed potatoes were good also.

The stone crab was good and fresh - but that's got to be difficult to screw up a perfect ingredient. The sides we ordered were less than mediocre. Had been looking forward to tropical cocktails, but this establishment does not boast a full bar.

I tried the crunchy grouper and it was horrible. Sent it back because I thought it hadn't been cooked enough... Why else would it not be firm. Then it became mush. Must be using old frozen fish. Hard to believe.

This place was pretty good. There was a nice outdoor seating area with live music. The sweet potato fries with the mango sauce were really yummy. They were addictive and perfectly cooked. For my meal, I had the chicken teriyaki quesadillas and there were really good. They were a bit messy, but for all the right reasons. they had plenty of chicken, onions and peppers stuffed in the tortillas. I highly recommend them. I wish there was a bit more shaded seats, as it was hot out. The service was quick and we never had to ask for refills, because our waiter was right there to make sure our drinks were full. I recommend check this place out.

was on our way to a bistro but ended up here because there was live jazz music. Stayed outdoors and listened to the guitar jazz. food was just ok. Kinda expensive for simple fares like soup, salad. Rc otters is in Captiva island not Sanibel. great service!

I had the fish basket - fish was delicious. I enjoyed the slaw as well, which is not usually the case. The waitress was pleasant and helpful. I would definitely return. Live music during the lunch hour was also an added bonus.

One of the criteria that we look at in restaurants is consistency. RC Otters is consistently great! Our party of four started with raw oysters, by far the largest and best tasting on this trip. Grouper prepared a variety of ways, (grilled, blackened, and bronzed) were all outstanding. We finished dinner with real key lime pie and hot fudge brownie. Again, benchmark for other area eateries. Captive ambiance dominated the scene with sunshine, light rock guitar player and spunky european waitress. Other than area parking, RC Otters is a must for anyone making the trip to Sanibel/Captiva.

On a tiny island with slim pickings, this is a nice and pleasant little restaurant in sort of hidden location! We ate here after many stops in little convenient shops that just didn't have the right thing for picky little old me :) I mean who cuts deli meats but won't make a sandwich out of it..."Oh, we only sell pre-made sandwiches (that have crap jalapeno cheese and were probably made last week...) or you have to buy the meat and a whole loaf of bread." Pssht...Don't think so. So it looked cozy, had a wide menu and let a lovely breeze onto the porch on a hot day. Although the service was quite snarky and rude, and the coke tasted like soda water. The food was good! I had the turkey club with chips and all of it was delicious! Fresh meats, chips, bread, lettuce and tomato, it was overall refreshing and light for a hot afternoon on Sanibel Island. My boyfriend ordered the Cuban sandwich that came with their black beans and rice cup! It was all delicious as well. Even if the beans tasted more like chili and they put cheese and sour cream on it, you can't expect them to have authentic Cuban food at a non-Hispanic restaurant. lol, but if the service and soda wasn't so bleh, I think I would have given this place a 4 and a half...

We arrived at 2 pm on a Sunday intending to sit outside, have an appetizer and a drink. We were told to seat ourselves at any open table outside. But, after 15 min of watching waitresses walk by, we flagged one down. We were then told we had seated ourselves at a " dirty" table, so she hadn't waited on us. An odd start. We had the crab cake app- totally unedible - bread crumbs with possibly a teaspoon of shredded crab.- no taste- ate very little. We also had crab/artichoke dip- again no crab - chopped artichoke, oily and tasteless. My husband had the Cuban sandwich- a little soggy bun, but ok. The music was fine, the sun was shining, and truthfully you don't come to Captiva for the food. This was our first trip to RC Otters, and we live on Sanibel. We were really disappointed, and won't be back here.

We have been here twice so far on two different trips to the island and for lunch it was just. Food was all good and served promptly with no attitudes. Great location for us and local entertainment was also nice.

Love this place. Shabby chic, ramshackle, frayed around the edges - it provides a very low key, relaxed and informal place to filly your tummy. Friendly staff, great menu that is predominantly sea based [and why not given where it is], it also offered more than the standard 'fried' option that is so prevalent in a lot of places, with dishes prepared the way you like; a daily specials menu including fishes of the day, and some signature dishes [I had the Shrimp Pot - gloriously big puffy shrimp in a fish broth chocked full of veggies and potato's, scrummy!] They were also incredibly flexible as we have a coeliac daughter [cannot eat gluten] but who was busting for some squid. RC Otter's happily sperated some squid out and grilled them simply. Daughter has it down as her favourite meal the entire trip.

Here for Breakfast. Better than average. Ordered eggs Sunny up, came with potatoes, wheat bread, blueberry muffin, large slice of cantaloupe & watermelon. My son ordered waffles came with slices of kiwi (nice touch). Atmosphere is ok in the morn prob better at night with music and sun dried beach goers. Lack of 5 stars comes in with the lack of etiquette from the manager (also server) & other servers I saw handle other tables. "whatcha need?" was our greeting, our server/mgr ripped off the butcher paper to take our order.... Cant afford something a bit more? Food was brought out by another server (which was fine) she didn't know what we ordered and didn't know the menu so as to call off what was on each plate making the simple act of getting our food very frustrating. At the end it was here's your check. No thanks for coming in hope to see you again how long are you staying and make sure to come see us for........ I know every restaurant at times goes through service issues... We do too. People beg for jobs but then do everything to prove they didn't really want it in the first place. Just sucks when it happens to you. I do a 3 strikes out rule for most everything. My 1st time here and it's strike 1. Maybe well hit this place up in the next day or two looks like they have a lot to offer on the menu.... They can at least pour me a beer or two.

The music and ambience were the best part. The food was lackluster, somewhat overpriced. We ordered crab cakes which were standard; and the portobello mushroom appetizer was tasty. The server assumed we wanted the sides we wound up with (rice and mashed potatoes :() and forgot to ask us. Sure, we could have specified, but shouldn't a server ask you want on your plate? Mixed veggies tasted like they were formally frozen. The chef seemed afraid cook the food to its fullest potential, and the sauce on the Grouper Oscar was relatively bland. I wish they blackened the fish/used seasoning. Don't bother with dessert-- at least don't get the caramel sundae because the ice cream has ice crystals in it, indicating its lack of freshness. Everything seemed safe; safe for picky eaters, children who order grilled cheese, and those on a bland diet. You can get the same music across the street if you time it right.

Let's just say that halfway through our meal, I turned to my husband and asked him..."When did it become okay for people to pay good money for crappy food?" It had been shut down for a week because the kitchen was having a new floor installed. I think that's why it was a bit slow when we were there, despite the live music on a Sunday at 11am. It is super Key's style. Bright Miami Vice colors, and beachy. The food wasn't great, and neither was the service of our server. The busser was great, but our server (who was a little bit busy watching Law and Order at the bar, which I totally get, couldn't be bothered with us.) I had the crab benedict $12. Lots of crab, which was good, but not enough seasoning. The hollandaise had to come out of a jar. I would have asked our server for some lemon wedges to brighten my meal, but I couldn't compete with Benson and Stabler, so I didn't bother. The husband got the breakfast burrito $8-it was on the cold side, the sausage was overcooked like it had been sitting there a while, and the "wonderful" salsa they promised was not.

Nice decor -- crazy colors and stuff on the walls evoke gulf theme. Our waitress was excellent. Two guys were playing amplified flutes and that was kind of nice. Good place to stop a bit and have a coffee or a drink and visit. Food was ok, except for the chips with guacamole -- the chips were completely not crunchy and inedible. Humidity maybe. They graciously took it off the bill. The key lime pie was very nice. People say this place has a great breakfast, and I bet they do. When we asked about Robert Rauschenberg our waitress said he had been a regular there, which made sense as his houses are only a couple of blocks away.

I lived in Fort Myers for a short time and plan on moving back. RC Otters is a place I will probably frequent. The food isn't anything special but the atmosphere and the outdoor patio with live music (a scraggly old man with a guitar singing DMB covers that sound tropical) encompasses the very thing that is a block down the road....the sunset on Captiva Island. There is a restaurant on Lake Michigan that has the slogan "Come for the view, stay for the food". When you are getting a tropical contact high the food doesn't matter as much. The shrimp I had were great, it's hard to mess up a shrimp but I have no complaints about RC's, only compliments.

  • Dee U.

We've been coming to Captiva for years, and RC Otters is our go-to restaurant. Had breakfast, lunch and dinner here, and never had a bad meal. The thing is, if we had, I am CERTAIN that we would be accommodated with a different choice. Standouts are the fried shrimp, the fish (your choice of preparation), sweet potato fries, and the fresh cole slaw.

A great place for quick island bites. Though the address is wrong, it's on Captiva Island, on Andy Rosse ln., not Sanibel. My family and I come here every summer during our vacation. It's one if our favorite stops. The ring toss game is addicting!! Tranquil, calm, peaceful, laid back! All words that describe this local star, just not at peak eating times when there are little kids running around screaming, and babies making baby noises all the time-I just want my burger! Anyway!! It's still a great place that frequent - it's tropical island, let all the bad things melt away. Again, the address on Yelp is wrong, RC Otters is on Captiva Island!!!

    (4)
  • Chris G.

RC Otters is one of my favorite brunch spots on Sanibel. They make a delicious bloody mary that is loaded with shrimp, olives, and celery. I've been here 5 or 6 times now and have yet to have a bad experience. I always look forward to ordering the crab cake benedict.

  • Ken C.

Pleasant experience with good service (Desiree) and food. The curb appeal is lacking, but the sign is cheerful and the waitstaff t-shirts (filet and release) set a relaxed and fun tone. They were very busy, which caused some minor problems with our order (no side of fries) in the kitchen, but everyone was very pleasant, the music was good and we had a good time.

  • Beer H.

Every time we come to Captiva we stop in at Rc Otters. It is a great place to stop in for a cold beer and some fish in a island atmosphere. The service is warm an friendly. I was having a hard time figuring out what to order, and our waitress suggested the seafood fajitas. They were excellent! They have a ton of beer on tap, but no hard alcohol. Thats fine for me being the beer whore! See you next year Rc Otters!

  • Tom H.

We visited RC's on our last night and I wish we had eaten here sooner. We liked how laid back it is and the food is good too. I had grilled grouper, my wife had grouper Oscar and the kids split ribs. Everyone liked their meals and the ribs looked like they came from a small cow. Really small cow. It was perfect for them. The service was good and we would recommend it to anyone or family.

We had breakfast at RC Otters a couple of times during our visit, and it was great. We also had lunch and dinner on the patio and listened to the live music. Mixed green salad was nice and healthy. Crunchy fish tacos were perfect - we got those more than once. The servers are a lot of fun, and the manager Russ even came to our table to say hello. They were all nice and made us feel like locals instead of tourists. Highly recommend this place for your local hangout when visiting Captiva.

    (5)
  • Michael B.

The food and service was excellent. They have a musician that plays most hours of the day and again in the evening and he was fantastic to listen to. My only complaint is the atmosphere...we ate inside due to the heat and flies outside but we couldn't escape either inside. It was still very hot inside and there were flies bugging us throughout our meal. I would highly recommend this for a lunch or evening hangout. This isn't really an ideal place for a family sit down dinner, however.

  • Gabriel D.

We were there for breakfast and had the crab cakes and the seafood omelet. The portions were generous and the food was very good. The orange juice is freshly squeezed and delicious. Everything comes with fresh fruit. The homemade muffins that come with every breakfast item are yummy. We also tried the pancakes and loved them. The service was excellent. I highly recommend it.

Very fast and fresh lunch service! I had fish tacos with good, very crunchy grouper. Didn't love the mango sauce with sweet potato fries, but the fries themselves were good. Salads with shrimp were a hit with other guests. Only big bummer was that the live music was loud and often out of tune.

  • Cezaro L.

Fun atmosphere with a live band most nights, great for kids, located in the center of the non-resort "Village" of Captiva (Andy Rosse Lane is the place to walk on Captiva post-sunset, if not the beach itself). The food just isn't that great. I've been here several times over several years, and have never eaten anything delicious. That said, it's hard to find reasonably priced delicious food on this island. It's not bad. But it's not anything you'll be pining for later on.

Excellent fresh fish (get the seafood platter!) and live music. Favorite restaurant so far since we've been in Captiva. Conch fritters were really good too. Great service.

  • Maddie W.

We stopped by for a quick lunch while on Captiva, and while the food wasn't great, we still had a nice time sitting outside and listening to an acoustic guitarist. I had the veggie wrap, and it was a little bland and hard to eat (it kept falling apart so I tried using a fork, but that was pretty much impossible in the wicker basket it was served in!) My boyfriend has the quesadilla and was pretty much what you'd expect a quesadilla to be. A little overpriced, but then again most everything is on the island! Not bad for lunch, but I'll probably try one of the other restaurants nearby next time.

This place is tropical colorful laid back and plain fun. We sat outside and listened to a singer who was pleasant, talented, and asked us what we wanted to hear, and then delivered. My husband had the shrimp, which one of seemed past its prime. Otherwise it was a very nice place to spend time. Our waitress was very friendly and when I asked for crackers, she brought me a big bowl of yummy potato chips. We will be back!

Great place for a casual meal. Had a wonderful dinner and listened to live music. Something on the menu for everyone.

    (4)
  • Mike P.

Great friendly atmosphere with cheery attentive servers. dependable but not fantastic food. It's all about the Captiva Island atmosphere vs a culinary experience. Great place to go to get a quick peice of fish with an ice cold beer, while the guitarist sings Buffet and Marley tunes under the tiki hut. Btw Yelp .. RC Otters is in the center of Captiva not Sanibel.
