Went to Joey D's when we were in the area going to Anna Maria Island. I am always looking for some good Chicago eats including Chicago deep dish pizza and Italian Beef Sandwiches. Therefore, I had to try this place out. We didn't order any pizza this time. We ordered an italian beef sandwich, Wisconsin Cheese Curds, and a Philly Steak sandwich. It is really quite impossible to find anything that is like Portillos in Chicago. When I lived there, I never could understand why Portillo's lines were forever long. Portillos is a local chain in Chicago that sells Italian Beef sandwiches, Italian Sausage, and Chicago Style Hot Dogs. They also have amazing Chopped salads, and Cake shakes. The italian beef sandwich here consisted of big slices of beef. The bread was the same bread that they use called Turano Bread. It was okay. My husband's philly steak sandwich was better. It included the green peppers and the cheese, and the steak was cut smaller. The Wisconsin Cheese curds were wonderful, and probably the best part of our order. Joey D's is decked out in Chicago memorabilia including endless sports stuff including the Bears, Cubs, Sox, Bulls, etc. It was an alright experience, but didn't capture the essence what I was looking for. I would come back to try the pizza, or have the philly steak sandwich and cheese curds. If that is what you fancy, check it out and see what you think for yourself.

My husband made a hard right when we saw the words Chicago Beef's. We split a few things that are special to us being from the Chicago area, beef sandwiches being #1. We were happy, maybe not exactly a Portillos, but close!! Our server Erin was wonderful and made our experience very pleasant. We will be back again, thanks Joey D's!

Went to Joey D's to try the Chicago Dogs. Ended up ordering dogs, pizza and wings. Service was great and food was awesome. The Chicago dog was like my husband used to make when he worked at a local diner and the chili cheese dog had my 4 y/o asking for another. They offer three styles of crust on the pizza and we went with the between option. It was wonderful pizza good flavor. Lastly we tried the medium buffalo wings and garlic parm. True to buffalo and probably best garlic parm I've had. Perfect crispy crust. We will be back for sure there's several other things on the menu that we want to taste.

Just remember this is Florida and not Chicago, Illinois. Flavor and product will not have the same flavors as at home.

I have been here before but this time I ordered delivery. Pizza was cold, wings were chewy and soggy. It took about an hour to deliver which wasn't that bad but I would expect the food to be warm. Only good thing was the deep fried mushrooms.

We were looking for a place to eat & it was late so most places were already closed. We wanted piźza & saw the sign for Chicago Pizza! Got the delight of hot fresh Chicago Style pizza which we never can get over on the east coast(of FL). It was so good! Such a treat! Fresh & good with great service! Charm of family owned too! Highly recommend! !

Our first visit and we wish we'd found this place years ago! The food is fantastic. Garlic parm wings, teriyaki wings, and custom calzone with onions, mushroom, and spinach. All just delicious. Wings cooked perfectly and the sauces were good. The only criticism would be the calzone had only about a tablespoon of ricotta cheese, more like a Stromboli instead of a calzone. Since the ricotta is my favorite part, I was really disappointed (and the reason I gave only 4 stars). But the crust and other fillings were really very good. Wait staff is attentive without being obtrusive. Scott kept our glasses full, accompaniments to the meal were well thought out and brought without having to ask. Special requests honored. Very, very good service. Of special note is an employee that didn't even serve us. Hilee (spelling?) apparently just started working as a delivery driver this week. Ran into him as I was leaving - almost literally. What a gracious young man, so friendly, and such a beautiful smile. I wish him well in his new job but I know his customers will love him. He really wants to do a good job and he said he enjoys the work. Meeting him was the highlight of my entire day, truly. One of those rare human beings whose outlook on life lifts your day. I hope Joey D's hangs on to him and supports his success for a long time to come.

Went to Joey D's in January while on vacation and it was fantastic. Delicious food, great service, fun people. Really terrific time. Total recommendation! We had a little bit of everything and brought it back to the hotel for leftovers. In particular, the Chicago deep dish pizza, Italian Beef Sandwich, Philly Steak with everything piled high, and the Wisconsin Cheese Curds were outstanding. All of us loved it and can't wait to go back next time we are on vacation in Bradenton. We loved the atmosphere too, although we're MN Vikings/Twins/Timberwolves fans so we had to give the Joey D's owners some grief as they have it all decked out in Chicago sports memorabilia. They took everything in stride and we'll definitely be back! Get yourselves down to Joey D's!

We tried Joey D's for take out one night when we were staying at the local Holiday Inn before heading out for a wedding the next day on Anna Maria Island. We thought it would be just some crappy Italian food for us to just get full on since it was late in the evening and we were starving. My hubby brought it back to our room and I have to say, I was amazingly surprised. I ordered a chicken parm meal and it was actually one of the best chicken parms I have tasted in a very long time! The sauce wasn't too spicy or sweet. They had the perfect amount of cheese. The pasta that accompanied it was firm, not overcooked and not drowned in sauce. It was really, really good! My husband ordered the Italian Beef sandwich and a Chicago Dog. He was definitely impressed with the quality of the food. He said it tasted like authentic Chicago style food. I didn't get to see the decor because I was waiting in the hotel for him, but he said it was "pretty cool looking" (no clue what that means). He said the staff was very friendly and the price was great for the amount of food you are given. If we are ever in the area again, we will definitely go for a "dine in" experience there.

Wasn't so impressed. It was good, just not great. They have large lunch portions for a reasonable price. Pizza and sandwiches. They also were very generous and catered a back to school lunch for the teachers at my school. Great local business.

While it is known for Chicago style pizza all of their food is good. We love the regular pizza and the cheese steak since we lost or regular place. If you want Chicago pizza call ahead or plan on a wait. Its thick and loaded so it takes a while but it's worth the wait.

Okay, I am from Chicago and I know what a proper Chicago pizza should taste like. I have been to Uno's, Gino's East, Giordano's, etc. This pizza is every bit as good as those. Wow. And the fried pickles were as good as any fried pickles I have ever had in my life. Lots of places do not have pickle spears. This is very important for fried pickle aficionados as the batter/breading to pickle ratio is not right unless they are spears. The breading was crunchy and encapsulated the pickle in fried love. So now that the food has a five star rating, let me tell you about the staff: Everyone here was genuine. You can tell when somebody is just trying to make you feel comfortable by showing you obligatory courtesy. Erin Took fabulous care of us. She made us feel like we usually drink beer with her after work. I will be back here the next time I am in town for absolute certain. Oh, and I will be going home with a ridiculous amount of pizza. Warning: the medium pizza is big enough to have its own ZIP Code! I have no idea what the large looks like but I know I would be scared. Cool atmosphere and I can't wait to try the other Chicago delicacies like the genuine Vienna beef hotdogs with the sport peppers.

Was a four star place. Just this past week they lost a MGR. it surely showed tonight. Just lost a weekly customer.

When in west Bradenton this is our favorite place for pizza! The thin crust is awesome, servers are always great and my son loves all the hockey memorabilia all over the walls!

Can't help but rave about this place. Not only do they have some of the best "Midwest comfort food" in three counties but they are very kind to our veterans! On behalf of myself and a local VFW post, thank you for your continued support!

Great Italian for Florida !!! The closest thing to being back home in Chicago !!!! The people were very friendly!!!!!

I wasn't thrilled with Joey Ds. It was okay. Definitely no worse than 3 stars. My disappointment is partially my fault, partially theirs. It seems like a nice enough place for lunch or dinner, or to go for a game. They have an outside patio, lots of TVs, and a friendly staff. I came by for lunch. I'm from NY, and while some of you may want to shred my NY card over this, every once in a while, I am in the mood for Chicago style pizza. It's not often. 99.9% of the time, if I was pizza, I want pizza (as Jon Stewart said, in NY, we don't call it NY style pizza, we just call it pizza). However, occasionally, I like the deep dish, and I was craving it this day. I don't think they have slices - if they do, I missed it, but I would be surprised based on how the pie was served if they did - so I got a smaller pie thinking I would just have some and take the rest home. This being a Chicago style eatery, I thought all of the pizza was deep dish - isn't that what Chicago style pizza is? Am I wrong about that? I thought that whenever someone refers to Chicago style pizza, they mean deep dish. Anyway, that's what I mean. However, I come to find out that it isn't the case, at least not here. My pizza comes out, and it looks just like a thin crust NY pizza, only cut into squares instead of triangles. Really disappointed by this. Firstly, I HATE pizza cut into a grid like that. Pizza is supposed to have the crust on the side help you grip it without hot melted cheese and hot tomato sauce getting all over your hand. When you cut it into squares, that happens for every piece except the outside pieces. Secondly, if I wanted NY pizza, I would have gone to a regular pizzeria. I was so disappointed by what came out. I grant you - my fault. I should have asked, or I should have noticed that the menu has a deep dish pizza, which would imply that all of the others are not deep dish. So lest you think I am taking points away for my stupidity - I am not. I am taking points away for the way the pizza was served - in squares. I understand that's their method and maybe the Chicago way when serving NY pizza, but it's dumb. The pizza itself was okay. Kind of unremarkable. Not bad in a "even bad pizza is pretty good" kind of way, but it was better than that, too. Biggest issue was the crust. Way too doughy. Not cooked enough, not well done enough. Parts of it were really too chewy, like the bread wasn't fully cooked. There are lots of better pizza places in the area, but worse ones, too. Just keep in mind that it's not all deep dish. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Always sweet and friendly people who treat you right! Everything is great that I've tried so far...but love the fresca capreci the best.

Great staff! Every employee that saw us, acknowledged us with a smile and said hello! That alone is awesome! The place was clean and the decor was cool and fun. We had fried mushrooms for an appetizer and then split a large thin crust pizza. Wow the pizza was fantastic! Great food! Great Staff! Great atmosphere! You guys at Joey D's ROCK!

  • Melissa S.

Glad we came accross this place! And I'm glad to see they are expanding. Customer service is top notch, not once have I had a bad time there or know of anyone that has. They remember your name and treat you like family! Food is great too, and pretty reasonablly priced (half pound burger and fries for $7!!). And if your lucky you might even see Mr Joey D himself (he is super nice) or Mama D (also super nice, she danced with my daughter). Definitely a jewel of Bradenton!

Dropped in for a late lunch this past Wednesday & it wasn't busy. I was born & raised in Chicago & had been trying to find pizza worthy of eating here in FL for months. While Joey D's is not authentic Chicago-style pizza the pizza is good but more importantly for me the SERVICE was AMAZING! Everyone was welcoming, friendly, & personable. I'll definitely go back for pizza & I'm excited to try other menu items. I also had an order of cheese fries (enough fries to feed 4 people).

If you want Chicago style pizza from here you have to specifically order the Chicago style stuffed pizza. The rest of the pizzas are New York style- which is a tad odd considering the place is supposed to be all Windy City and everything. (Chicago style is deep dish, not thin crust) I enjoy many varieties of pizza, but we're from the Chicago area and I was in the mood for some deep dish action. This is a warm, and inviting pizza place with really friendly staff which made for an above average visit. The Chicago style stuffed pizza was a solid three and a half stars. It was left in the oven just a bit too long (maybe five minutes), so the crust was somewhat overdone, and the layer of sauce on the top wasn't as saucy as it should have been as too much of the moisture had been over cooked away. Crust layer on the bottom was too thin for true deep dish, however, it was crisp and not soggy or spongy the way some places serve it. I've had Chicago style pizza that was so fricken good it was similar to a sexual experience. The stuffed pie here won't make you explode in your pants or anything, but it's above average good. We'll go back for more provided we can't find a better deep dish elsewhere. This review is a four instead of a three, because the ambiance was appropriate, and we really liked the staff.

  • Bill R.

Not sure about the bad reviews. This is a GREAT hangout joint. The decor, the atmosphere, the service, and the food. ALL are exactly what you want them to be. The only reason to give five stars is when a place is awesome. Joey D's is. If you want gourmet, WHY did you come in? This is a "salt'o'the earth kinda place. They've got burgers, dogs, fries, cheesesteaks, beer. They got "grub". Great grub. The most wonderful of food IF that is what you are in the mood to have. Staff very friendly. Gangster decor of Chicago was awesome! LOVE this place.

Absolutely delicious pizza! The cheese curds are very good as well.

I am from Chicago. The pie was just okay.. Priced too high for what you get. They tried but did not succeed. Will not go back.

Best wings that we have found in Florida. The cheese steak deluxe is also one of the best we have found in Florida. Beer is cold and served in chilled mugs. Definitely one of our favorites.

I've been meaning to go here for a very long time. I finally managed to have a chicago dog somewhere else (review pending) and thought I should compare to this place. A number of reviews talk about them being good here so figured close to work, didn't bring my lunch today, got to try it. About what you would expect sports bar wise. Good lunch crowd when I went and nice friendly staff that did a good job. I got a chicago dog and a chili dog. The chicago dog was good. I can see how these can be addicting. I can't really speak to its authenticity but I enjoyed the peppers, the celery salt is great and the dog had a great snap to it, which I love and why I usually prefer sausages (polish, Italian, brats, etc). to traditional dogs. Price was reasonable as well. The chili dog was another manner. The dog part was fine, same as the chicago dog, same bun. But the chili down right sucks. It is just flavorless meet sauce. No spice, no character, little flavor. I hope they got it out of can as if they made it from scratch it would just be ever so much sadder. So, I'll be back for the chicago dog, maybe I'll try the italian beef, but the chili dog is forgettable.

If you're from Chicago the atmosphere is fantastic. Lots to look at on the walls and posts and the Blackhawks game was on the TV when we arrived. Our waitress was great. Very attentive and put up with my husband's outbursts of excitement at the game. We ordered the standards: pizza, Italian beefs, hot dogs, and a pizza puff. Everything was good. Pizza was a little too thin, needed some more fennel, and had a spice in the sauce I didn't recognize but was definately better than some of the crappy stuff out there. They have Vienna Beef brand products so you know the sandwiches will be good. Added bonus was the Turano bread they served the beefs on. It's a nice place with a nice staff. We had a very good experience. Oh, and the Hawks won. :-)

My family and I always enjoy eating a Joey D's. The wings and pizza are our usual favorites. The servers are always very nice and the restaurant is always clean. Casual unpretentious place with good food.

Definitely a Chicago inspired restaurant. The service was great, our waitress was there to make sure our glasses were full. We ordered the Chicago style pizza as soon as we sat as it takes about 30min to cook. She then took the drink, app and kids orders. The apps and kids food came out in a timely manner, we had the mozzarella sticks which were what you'd get anywhere. My son had a plain hot dog which was very flavorful and was in a fresh soft roll. My daughter had the pizza puff and fries which was something different and delicious! Then the pizza came out. Piping hot, saucy cheesy deliciousness! We will definitely be returning!!

The best place in town and if ur a Chicago fan they always have the games on go Hawks

    (5)
  • Coty S.

Yet again, another place that I went to during one of my pizza cravings. The crust is a hand tossed consistency and cut into small squares. It is alright, but there are many better places in the area. They have killer cheese sticks and I mainly recommend them for their Chicago style hot dogs. I don't go out of my way to eat here nowadays and have found better options for everything they have other than the hot dogs. If you are a sports fan, they blast the stuff on the TV's all opening hours, and since the dining area is small you can see the screens from anywhere in the place.

  • Linda L.

Service is amazing but its definitely a biker bar. Just make sure that if your drinking, you order the shot and the soda individually. It's half the price of the mixed drink. Their bartenders are AWESOME so tip well. Just don't go here for a good long island. Also the guy who "knows restaurants" is out of his mind one the servers. The may have one guy and one girl who are old and nasty but everyone else is young, decently attractive, energetic and extremely accommodating. If you were looking for romantic you obviously went to the wrong place. You can't judge them on where you "thought" you were going. You have to judge them on the category they fall into.

Always great. Best pizza and dogs in town. Great service and consistency. Favorite is the Chicago combo, Italian beef and sausage with hot peppers.

Pizza was SO good! We enjoyed a medium pepperoni, onion, tomato and bacon pie with an Amber Bach. Great service and fun atmosphere!

Not Giordano's, but close enough for being 1200 miles south of Chicago. Our 12-year-old wanted a Chicago-style stuffed pizza for his birthday and we were in Bradenton on Spring Break, so we gave Joey D's a shot. We got off to a rough start when they messed up our reservation, then tried to squeeze 8 of us into a booth - even with 4 of us being 12-and-under, it was too tight - and after complaining, things got sorted out. No apologies, no attempts to make us feel better. Poor customer service. However, our waitress - Brooke (from Michigan) - was great, although it seemed like she was getting slammed. The pizza was good. We got the stuffed crust - a "da Bears" and "The Popeye". Both the pizzas were tasty although the crusts weren't near as tasty as the originals. I probably would have given Joey D's 4 stars except for the poor service at the start and they weren't playing the Cubs game on television - just Sportscenter. If you claim to be a "Chicago Style Eatery" and you dress it all up on Chicago decor, you really ought to have some Chicago sports on whenever possible!

Just in the area for the day and enjoy trying new pizza places. Lunchtime on Sunday. Happily surprised to find this place. Had to try the Chicago style pizza (w/onion, black olive, tomato & green pepper). The pizza was out within the pre-warned 1/2 hour; had the mozzarella sticks while waiting. The mozzarella stick were perfectly fried and the pizza was thick with crispy crust. Server kept our glass and our table cleared. Excellent experience.

You cannot beat great deep dish chicago pizza..... Plan to order and wait (once you finally get a seat) as it is made to oreder and worth every minute....usuallly only thirty though they always say 45. Get the sausage and a pitcher of beer while you wait and vheck out all the bears, bulls, sox and cubs decor. Patio outside is nice too with tvs and more space.

Good pizza but this would be my third time visiting and so far only thing I like off the menu is the pizza.I try other things on the menu and its not all that great.Only thing good there I think is the pizza.

  • Dominic M.

Pigged out esp for guy who's doesn't meat anymore! A very good authentic dog even w poppy seeds, pickle, bright relish, sport peppers and pickle. Very good. Italian Beef with sweet peppers & giardinera was near perfect. Bun was good but not perfect. Generous portion.

  • Kelli L.

We had the Chicago Style Pizza and the Greek Pizza delivered. Sadly we threw almost the entire Chicago Style away and we typically love Chicago style pizza. And for nearly $30 you would think this one would be amazing, but it just wasn't good. The Greek however was very good, still overpriced for pizza though. This place has an expansive menu that all looks great, but the prices were a bit high in my opinion for what you get.

I have been craving a real Italian Beef sandwich since my trip to Portillo's in Chicago. Joey D's sandwich was a very good way to tide me over. The bread was authentic, the beef was seasoned well, and the sweet and hot peppers were plentiful. In fact, the sandwich was piled so high, it made a huge mess and I needed my utensils. Please note, that's a compliment, not a complaint. I had the excellent cheese fries as well, although the mountainous portions make it clear why the sanwiches don't include fries. My friend had a flavorful chicken gyro and we both left stuffed and satisfied. The decor is fun Chicago and our waitress was a hoot. I will definitely be back.

Growing up in the Region I ate many an Italian Beef and Joey D's does a great sandwich. The service was awesome and every employee I encountered friendly. Can't wait to try a square slice next visit.

So we were headed to the Acalpuco Tropical market for some tacos and couldn't find a place to park....heading back home we stopped in for a quick lunch. Didn't have the pizza but it looked good. Italian beef was good but lackluster. Its always hard to say if things that regional are authentic or not. This place seems good for the older crowd who might not think something new or "zap, zing, wow!" is good. A very traditional American pizza place with wings, fried frozen treats and pull tab ranch dressing. God bless America!

Try to get here at least once every time I am in Bradenton/Sarasota for work, and I am huge fan for no reason at all, of the Chicken Cheesesteak. It really makes no sense to me at all, but the combo of grilled chicken, peppers, onions, cheese smothered with marinara on a toasted roll is just pleasing. Gyros, pizzas and pasta all perfectly comfortable.

  • Neal G.

Bradenton's best pizza restaurant in my opinion. Lunch specials are a great value. If you have time, call ahead and order a deep dish pizza, it is amazing but takes about 40 minutes to bake. It is not quite as good as actual Chicago deep dish, but its as close as you'll get in Florida. Also I believe they have the BEST philly cheesesteak sandwiches in the area. My wife satisfies here Chicago hot dog craving on occasion, and says it is pretty authentic. Enjoy!

  • William S.

Just ordered two Italian beef wet. Almost as good as the one I get at this little joint at 22nd street and Cicero on west side of Chicago. At the Chicago place they don't dip the rolls and when you get them the beef juice from the beef soaks the rolls

  • Lauren L.

Great pizza, the thin crust was nice and buttery. Fresh toppings, good service and the good came out fast! Would definitely come back again

    (4)
  • S B.

Good neighborhood Italian food. Make sure to have a calzone. I think they took it off the menu, but they still make it and it is HUGE and delicious! Some things are a little overpriced-- like kid's macaroni & cheese for $4, when all it is is a little bowl of Kraft!!! However, if you're just looking for a cozy ma & pa place to eat some Chicago Italian, you'll be pleased with Joey D's. (no rhyme intended)

    (3)
  • Dann H.

I only ever end up going here for lunch, but their 2 slices and a drink special is a great deal - 2 slices is actually half of a pizza, so it really ends up being two separate meals if you stretch it out. The Italian beef sandwich was only ok, but we keep ending up back here at lunch for the pizza/drink deal.

Yo! My pals at Joey D's!!! It's my place away from my home town... This place is always packed during lunch and dinner rush so arrive just before to secure a table with all it's nostalgic Chicago art that surrounds the pizza and dog joint so cleverly! While taken in the atmosphere of being in Chicago or what it may feel like to be in the city, you may watch on one of their big screened TVs a game of college football or any pro sport. Start by ordering a brew or a favorite soft drink, but you must try the original Chicago Hot Dog with all the "right" trimmings! Then if you must adventure for flavor, try the Italian Beef sandwich with either sweet or hot peppers or a heaping gardinara on top, if you need to burst a stomach full of flavor try the combo - the Italian Beef with a grilled sausage nestled between a warm crusted bun (A true Chicago sang'wich) with any of the peppers on top! If you are there for their pizza, I like different flavors, so I asked to add pieces of the Italian Beef on top with extra cheese and pepperoni - for me, to die for! Their crust is cooked just right, look on the bottom of a piece and you will see the nicely darken tan colored crust that crunches when you take a bite into it! The cheeses and their toppings are all authentically to an Italian taste! I like their service and tastes. For extra curricular, I miss the Chicago tamale, a corn rolled with spiced ground beef in the center usually made steamed, I eat it plan most people like it with chili on top.. All is goood! If your not too full.. take in a cannoli or a tarimasu....with a cappuccino? I love this place... takes me back home to Taylor Street Chicago!

    Awesome Chicago pizza and dogs!

  • Michael S.

Horrible experience. Traveled 40 minutes to be served the signature stuffed pizza without any cheese. Literally, they forgot to add the cheese, just a bunch of sauce, canned mushrooms and green peppers, sausage piled into a thick dough.

Live in Chicago...travel to Bradenton frequently. This place is pretty close on most items. Last visit had the stuffed pizza. It was delicious. As good as Giordano's. Vienna hotdog is spot on,( if you go in for the who shebang). I'm a Gene and Jude's devote, so the pickle spear, tomatoes and celery salt is superfluous.. All in all, a visit to Chicago without a plane ticket. Sad that they are being judged by things like chili, etc. not a "Chicago" tradition.

I've known the guys who own this for a while. Pretty good. Best is the Italian sausage with peppers and onions with yellow mustard

The deep dish pizza was pretty good, but not completely hot all the way through. I would have liked it more had it been 18$ instead of 30$! Not not worth the cost.

been there once. new to area. Chicago Dogs were excellent. Service was excellent (thanks Tiger Fan). I'll go back.
