We all enjoyed our food. We went on a Friday night and it was all you can eat hand breaded chicken tenders and catfish. The catfish was offered fried, fried cajun, broiled, broiled cajun. We enjoyed the tenders. My son couldn't finish his first plate of fried catfish because the first serving they bring you is huge. They serve you biscuits and coleslaw complimentary.

Fantastic seafood, hush puppies and coleslaw to die for, and I'm not that big a fan of coleslaw. Theirs was delicious. And their BBQ ribs are Da Bomb!!!!! Get the fried okra too. Worth a detour to have a meal here. Will definitely stop here again next time we're in the area!!!

Great find! New to area and picked a place close to us off the reviews here. Nadia was our waitress and she was super friendly. We took her recommendations and tried the stuffed grouper and seafood trio. Both delicious only gave 4 stars due to hubby's comment that said scallops seemed store bought type frozen taste. We will be back to try out catfish with our son next time :)

If you're thinking of passing by this place, don't. You don't need to look any further. My bf & I were actually looking for a different southern style place to eat but couldn't find it & decided to come back to stop into this place since the parking lot was fairly full. We are from Washington State & are total foodies so this place was a hit! Not only was the food amazing, but the staff was awesome & who I can only think to be the owner & his wife were helping the staff since it was so busy (as someone who grew up in the industry I love seeing the oqners'). The frog legs were excellently breaded & we tried the gator bites for the first time & would definitely order them again. Overall it was a great experience & we will be recommending this place to anyone we know that will be down in the area.

All that we ordered was bad. The clam chowder was sour, steak was dry and hard to chew, mash potato made from powder. Even a piece of grouper was far away from something called delicious. Although the servants are nice and friendly and serve fast, but the food totally don't worth those prices.

Catfish Country- if you're looking for good food, excellent service and a nice cold beer stop and eat here. Their fried mushrooms are fresh, just like the seafood. Everytime we eat here I try something new and I have yet to be disappointed. Love this place

This is one of the best restaurants that I have ever been too! The service was superb, and the food was delicious. I am from Maryland and my sons teacher recommended this place to me. I will be going back in a few weeks when my family comes to visit for Thanksgiving. I plan on being a frequent customer. The hospitality, the friendliness of the staff, the feeling of being welcomed and appreciated, and the fabulous food makes this place my favorite restaurant. It's definitely worth going too!

Catfish country is one of my favorite restaurants in the area. It saddens me to see some of the reviews on here that start off with things like "I make the best of (insert item that I ordered and already knew I was going to hate here), but ordered it anyway and now am going to tell you how much I hate theirs. Come on people let's be fair in our reviews. Catfish Country does seafood very well, in particular catfish (big surprise I know). They also make a phenomenal stuffed grouper. I've been taking people there for years, most recently a group of 25 and a group of 8 last night, I have never heard a complaint, and everyone has loved their food. When you first enter you'll notice one thing, you ain't in no fancy seafood house, Catfish Country is more along the lines of a traditional Florida fish shack. The decor fits in perfect with the food, it ain't fancy, it's down home seafood at its best. Don't forget to look just inside the front door to the left, there are shelled peanuts if you have to wait, and small cups to take some to your table, bring two, one with peanuts and one for shells. As you're seated they immediately place cole slaw, green onions and biscuits on the table. These are bottomless, so dig in. Service is friendly and quick, and your food will come out hot and fresh. My personal favorite is the Cajun style fried catfish which is a twist on their traditional fried catfish, but breaded with a slightly spicier batter. Collard Greens are a sure fire side item, as is the baked sweet potato. All in all Catfish Country is my go-to spot for out of town guests to give them a little local flavor. Go in here knowing that you're eating at a fish shack, they obviously aren't going to beat your "best in the world" crab cakes (moron) and if you don't like home cooked southern food and are looking for a "healthy" option... DON'T HEAD TO A FISH SHACK. Seriously this is one of the best eateries in Lakeland, don't let the bad reviews fool you, head out to Catfish Country and you won't be disappointed!

My girlfriends son said it was the worst shrimp pasta he ever had, (well he used different words but I had to keep this review with no cussing) My catfish was soggy, mushy, white inside. My girlfriends scallops she said Couldn't cut with a fork, had to use a knife. My broiled scallops were nasty. We did like the coleslaw.

All you can eat catfish for $15? Yes please! The catfish was fresh and plentiful. I opted for the red beans and rice side dish and it was fantastic. As soon as my catfish got low more was brought out. The biscuits were fresh and tender, the coleslaw was fresh and homemade and the waitress made sure the drinks never ran out. Went with my wife and another couple and all of our food was delicious. Sidenote: They sell shirts there so be sure to show your love and pick one up!

After seeing all the great reviews we decided to give Catfish Country a try. Loved the fact that you're greeted by a plate of cole slaw, warm biscuits, and a mason jar of spring onions. Unfortunately that's where the love ended. Ordered some gator bites to start off and not sure what was wrong with them or what part of the gator they were from but they were a chewy gamey awful mess. I went for the fried catfish and although they weren't bad... With lots of tartar sauce that is... they had absolutely no flavor. Wife got a fried shrimp platter which she said wasn't bad but again very little flavor. Very disappointing experience since the main reason we went was to try out the gator bites since my wife had never tried them. Unfortunately I think they were so bad she won't be trying them ever again. The hostess and wait staff were extremely nice and were on top of everything but unfortunately the food was terrible and overpriced. $50 for a family of 3 with no alcohol or dessert is just not worth it. Especially since the food was pretty bad. We won't be returning...

Tonight my wife and I stopped in and it was wonderful! We started with the fried mushrooms and they were delicious. For dinner I had the baked cod creole, and my wife had stuffed grouper. Both dishes were fantastic! The highlight of our visit was our server Chelsea. She was extremely friendly and kept us smiling. Her service was absolutely on point. I spoke with the manager when we were leaving and told her whatever she does, don't let this girl go!

What a fantastic find!!! Friends recommended this place to me and it was well worth the drive to get there. I had the all you can eat catfish. Each piece was perfectly fried with a light breading that did not mask the catfish flavor. My fish was light and flaky. They keep fixings on the table if that's what you favor with your fish. A spritz of fresh lemon is all it needs in my opinion. The hushpuppy was not greasy and fresh. Our server was upbeat and attentive, bringing me another drink without asking if I desired another. I will happily return.

This place is awesome. So many options. When you sit down, try immediately bring you wArm biscuits and fresh coleslaw. Try not to fill up, the food gets better believe it or not! I typically opt for the "pick any 3". The alligator and frog legs are amazing. If you like swamp food, I highly recommend trying these two options. Menu does have other items besides fish, but overall, a great place to eat!

We got the all you can eat catfish fillets it comes coleslaw, biscuits, scallions in water and also it says hush puppies plus you get to pick one side to go with all that extra stuff we chose regular grits without cheese. Mom couldn't stop eating the coleslaw but I don't like coleslaw she said it was outstanding the biscuits were dry and hard what do you need the scallions in water because that's just kind of weird even if you are southern and I am... the grits were an instant grits I can't believe a place like catfish country serve instant grits ....hush puppies were just ok mom says... they had onions which I don't like... My fish was piping hot and outstanding however moms was cold and one of them was actually rotten and you could smell it on her plate.... when we told the server she took the plate back but charged us anyway.... I told her I wasn't going to pay for moms and they agreed to take it off ..... I will not ever be back.....

This is a local place off of Bartow Road with a large parking lot that is quite often full to capacity. Good luck getting near the place in the summer months. Though, if you have to wait for a table, the lobby area has no shortage of signs and photos covering the walls to occupy your restless soul. And hey, if that doesn't do it for you, there is a giant barrel of free peanuts in the corner for your mindless snacking pleasure (or in my dad's case to stockpile for his squirrel buddies). I should note that the nuts are salted, so yeah, we have a tiny population of hypertensive squirrels back-flipping for peanuts in the front yard, their little salted hearts ticking time bombs waiting to explode. Walking back to our booth at Catfish Country, the place is part sports bar, part family dining, big part kitsch. Neon beer signs and flat screen televisions cover available wall space. There is a fish tank with tiny catfish swimming around and daring to make eye contact. Sorry lil buddies. The laminated menu, complete with cartoon water creatures, provides a large assortment of fried or broiled seafood options, with the occasional alligator nugget tossed in for some truly local fare, and some landlubber items if you prefer your meat winged or hoofed. After ordering, your table is assaulted with all the fixins to accompany your meal: basket of biscuits, family-style cole slaw, and a cup full of green onions, standing like a barren arrangement of deflowered stems in water. Apparently you're supposed to chomp on these, raw. I tried one, and it was about what you would expect, being a raw green onion and all, with no dipping sauce. Definitely try the fried alligator nuggets. They come with a great dipping sauce that is both mustard-y and horseradish-y. These tasty treats were the highlight of our meal here. Service was extra attentive, and extra friendly. Given the proximity to my parent's house, and the super relaxed atmosphere, I'm sure we will be back.

The Gator Bites are out-of-this-world! I've never had alligator this tender and flavorful. The catfish is, of course, outstanding. This place is always a treat when we are in town. Don't fill up on the cole slaw and biscuits that they bring you to start out with! The specials are always great and the menu is very reasonable priced. It's an excellent night out with family or friends and easily the best restaurant for miles.

If you are looking for a laid- back, fun Florida country place, this is it. Nothing fancy, but we were happily surprised by the fun country-cozy decor, friendly staff and pretty decent and crazy menu! From fried catfish to froglegs to gator ... All the backcountry goodies you might (or not) try in Florida. But there is also broiled food, like mahi mahi, grouper, catfish, shrimp and more. Lots of people were eating the All U Can eat King Crabs. We went for the filled crab and fried pickles to start with (party of 4), and all went for the 3 piece fried catfish. The portions are so big, that you don't want to go for the All U Can eat catfish, because it is soooo much and sooo filling!!! Every meal starts with biscuits, very good coleslaw and springonions to munch on.. Very... Eh... Country, shall I say. Good, fun, cozy! We will go back and try more! (the fact that Rita's Custard Icecream parlor is about next door doesn't hurt either!)

Okay, I admit it: I was doing them no favors by ordering the Crab Cakes. I happen to make the most delicious Crab Cakes in the world: jumbo lump, very little breading, and the crab remains the star while the remuoulade carries the accents. Nonetheless, I did order the Crab Cakes...back to that later. Do not blame the interior on false advertising: the outside reflects the inside perfectly. If you were hoping to enter into a classy joint, well then you weren't paying attention when you drove into the parking lot. That's not to say the interior is offensive to the senses (if you don't mind animal heads on walls, that is) but it is a diner-table, banquet-chair, stained-carpet kind of place. First of all, the place is dirty; they make no secret about that. If that place has ever been cleaned properly it's been forever ago. The condition of the condiment bottles is enough to turn your stomach: the Tabasco top is crusted, the pepper sauce has fermented peppers, and only a higher power knows when the last time the shakers were cleaned: my guess is NEVER. The scariest part is looking into the server station and beyond into the kitchen. But, if that doesn't scare you off (as it didn't me) hold on for the ride. When we were seated, a very pleasant server greeted us, brought us our drinks, some biscuits, and a bouquet of onions. Yes, onions. The biscuits, themselves, were as hard as hockey pucks. We did do an experiment and found a solution: if you are able to cut one open and then put butter on it, it softens the biscuit up in about twenty minutes. To be fair, we did not ask for different biscuits: I'm not sure what the point would have been. Our pleasant (and very attentive, I might add) server came and took our order: (again) I had the Crab Cakes and my companion the Mozzarella Sticks. With the Crab Cakes, I chose french fries and "slaw"; my companion added a salad. I have to tell you: THE SLAW ROCKS! It is probably the best slaw I've ever had...and I've had KFC slaw....which is AMAZING! The fries were good too: "skin on," and nicely seasoned...a little mushy but, again, I was paying attention when we drove into the parking lot. The hush puppy (that comes with) was probably the driest I've ever seen, but this was balanced nicely by the fact that it was also completely tasteless...so I didn't want to eat it anyway. The salad? The Ranch dressing is HORRIBLE and, probably, not conducive to well-being. If you read my review of Anna's Diner well, this Ranch was a million times worse than that...but I guess it would serve to cover the "here and there" brown lettuce leaves. My companion liked the (deep fried from frozen) Mozzarella Sticks but did complain of stomach pains later. It may have been the notice of dust and grime on the table after all was said and done, or the walk past the kitchen on our way out when the door was open. I'm telling you: they're not hiding the fact that the place is disgusting. From the Pizza Hut review, you know how I feel about kitchens. On to the Crab Cakes: just let me say this first: I'm glad they buy them frozen for obvious handling reasons. Second, the cakes are two main ingredients: breadcrumbs and artificial flavoring. At first, it's not that bad but, eventually, that flavoring does bring a sinking feeling. I did see dots of red in the cake that may have been crab...but I doubt it. Third, they are served with some sort of really disgusting looking veggie slop; when I asked, I was told it was "Creole Sauce" Even though I thought I would probably be eating something that has been sitting in the corner of the kitchen for three years, I JUST HAD to try it. Really, it was pretty good...at first. If you get it...don't eat too much; a couple of bites will suffice. Finally, mixing the creole and the artificial crab flavoring in the breadcrumb cakes (yes, I called them "breadcrumb cakes") is a major mistake and an all out declaration of war on your own taste buds. To wash it all down, I had a beer. I forced myself not to look to see the condition of the glass because the bread plate was dirty...with something. Well, at least we ended on a high note: only $32.00 spent for the experience. Let's wrap this up. You know when you spontaneously do something exceedingly dangerous and later on, when you've had time to think, it makes you glad that you're still around to talk about it and determined never to do it again? Well, that's how I feel about Catfish Country: HOLY COW! What was I thinking?!?!?

In town for work. My clients took me out to lunch and said its a surprise. Wow... was it a surprise. I am asian and I was impressed with the kinds of food they had. The decor is very southern with lots of alcoholic signs everywhere. I loved it. What I had: Alligator Nuggets - pretty good considering it was my first time. It was a bit gamey and the texture was a bit rubbery. Fried Okra - anything okra is good. i loved it. The biscuits which comes with every meal was goooooooood. I didnt really get the whole scallion in the water appetizer, but I guess it was a southern thing. The sweet tea was good. Overall an A oK experience. I would go back there again.

My family and I went here last night. I thought the atmosphere was cool, laid back and rustic. Very southern. The menu was pretty big. Im not a huge fan of fried food so it would of been nice to see some healthier options, but I guess that isn't the point of the restaurant. I got their special for Saturday, teriyaki salmon over rice with a side of sweet potatoes, I figured I'd be daring with the teriyaki because I love salmon. I didn't care for the teriyaki at all, it tasted funky. The salmon was cooked great but other than that I didn't eat it because of the teriyaki. Biscuits they give you when seated were good, nothing I haven't had. The service wasn't too exciting either. I think I owe them a second chance to win me over but as of now I'm not impressed.

Catfish Country provides consistently good seafood with a variety of "specials" each night of the week. (Closed Mondays). Each meal comes with a mug of complimentary spring onions, melt-in-your-mouth biscuits (honey on the side), and a great cole slaw. They make killer catfish. I also like the baked grouper creole, alligator tail, and fried dill pickles. Fun place, avoid the Friday night lines, though--go early. Enjoy a handful of peanuts from their barrel while you wait. 6/4/11. Still a delicious meal! Menu has cleaned up, decor has "cleaned up" (still shacky looking, a fun "draw"). Seems to have a wider variety of fish--grouper, tilapia, salmon, crab legs, shrimp. Catfish breading recipe seems to have changed. Still great cole slaw. Okay hushpuppies, dry cheese grits (not so nice). Great early bird 4 to 6 menu for 7.99 to 9.99. They do have landlubber options. Service was swift. They open at 3:30 on Saturdays if you're like me and need "lupper".

Food was good, other than the instant cheese grits, canned vegetables, and grease filled hush puppies. The main issue with our visit was our rude and abrasive server, Flora. She was nice when she first approached our table, however when asking questions about the menu her demeanor instantly changed. We had questions on the difference of price and size between the dinner and lunch portions. She did not at any point completely answer our question, and when we asked again for clarification she rudely responded, "I just told you". I am in the serving business and I know how to treat guests. Flora's personality was brash and unapproachable, and not how guests should be treated.
