The website says reservations are recommended so I followed instructions and made them. Not only were the servers were fantastic ( the took special care in selecting a table for us away from the larger groups since our reservation was for two) but I appreciated the atmosphere ...not stuffy at all. Their craft beer list is impressive (try the Breckenridge Vanilla). We had the dumplings for an app and the Filet and Rib Eye for the main course. Fabulous....we will be back. Apopka has been starving for you.

This incredibly cozy restaurant felt like a speakeasy with an almost unwelcoming, dimly-lit generic "Steak House" sign above the entrance. Because of our last-minute reservation through Yelp, we were lucky to get seated at all -- we were at a table two feet from hostess who turned down several walk-ins. I am very disappointed that people on Yelp gave this place one star because they were turned down. Needless to say, RESERVATIONS ARE A MUST -- I counted a total of only seven or eight tables here. They have a great selection of hand-crafted cocktails, wine and craft beer. If you just want to hang out at the bar, they have TVs, but their bar only seats about six people. I ordered a tart, martini-like drink with gin and triple sec that tasted like something out of the 1920s. My husband's steak was cooked to perfection and well seasoned. My fish with risotto was well prepared and flavorful. We've gone to some of the finest steakhouses in the country, and this one did not disappoint, especially considering its close proximity to us on this side of Apopka. Unfortunately, it loses one star for atmosphere. This place could be more intimate with dimmer lighting, real candles, nicer salt and pepper shakers, booth seating, and something more than wooden blinds (perhaps drywall?!) covering the large window that overlooks Beef O'Brady's next door. Also, if you have children please go there instead (our kids love it there). There is no children's menu at this place for a reason.

Excellent meal and service. Ribeye was amazing ; cooked to perfection. Wait staff very attentive; owner Ed genuinely concerned about our experience and quality of our visit. Highly recommend the Back Room. Very few restaurants of this caliber in the area. Prices reasonable and wonderful atmosphere. The Back Room can certainly compete with any high end steakhouse in the country.

We had heard of this restaurant many times with recommendations from friends. I have to agree with some reviews about the entrance , it is a bit off putting . I would have liked to give this 5 stars for the steak alone but I had to deduct stars for the staff. We had called and made a reservation although when we arrived there were only 2 other tables seated. This is a very small place and there was a couple seated on the left side and a couple seated in the center, the Hostess took us to the last table on the left directly in front of the bathrooms. We immediately started to protest but she just kept walking away. Finally we got her attention and asked that we be seated on the right side as there were no customers on that side, she informed us that we could not sit there as they were expecting a large party for those seats, she then sat us directly in front of one of the only 2 occupied tables. Not long after we were seated a single man came in and was seated where we had been told a large party was to be seated. As we were leaving over an hour later they started to push tables together for the large party and we actually saw some of them arriving as we left. It was really unacceptable that we were being sat in front of the bathroom in a place that only had 2 couples seated and the large party they expected was over an hour away from their reservation time. The staff needs some training here. Our waiter came right away and I asked what beer was on tap, he did not know and had to read it off the taps, he also had to ask the bartender(?) about the beers for me as I was not familiar with some nor was he. We both ordered the rib eye steak and I have to say it was perfectly cooked and a great piece of meat. Worth the trip here and the price , I would come back for that alone. I had a baked potato and salad , the salad was good with a nice although different blue cheese dressing. My friend had the salad and a side of Broccolini that was sad looking and overdone, they exchanged it for a baked potato no problem. I wish I could give this 5 stars for the steak , but it was 3.5, so I had to give it a 3, you should give it a try if you are in the area and appreciate a good steak and potato dinner but don't expect the staff to live up to the star rating .

We ordered the scallops appetizer with Siam Gimlet and Breakfast Stout. The sauce was fabulous and I liked how they cut the scallops in half and seared them. (We utilized the 1/2 off from Yelp). I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass and hubby ordered the filet. All of it was so tasty. Good portions. Great prices. We made a reservation through the app. They took us early so that was a bonus. What they lack from the parking lot, they make up for inside. Staff was fabulous. A great date night while on the other side of town.

Although the space is small, it's worth a reservation. The food and service are both excellent. Have eaten here twice and both times I was very impressed.

Up until now it has been necessary for us to travel a bit in order to get an above average steak meal. Now we have someplace in our own backyard that fits this bill. A group of us dined at The Back Room on Friday night and no one walked away disappointed. This is a very small restaurant with seating for about 60. Reservations are definitely advisable if you want guaranteed seating. We saw people turned away at the door because the entire time we were there the place was full. With such a small space, having a bar with TV's playing sports right in the dining area creates a more casual rather than a high end atmosphere. The size of the space also made for some awkward service issues. With half of our table seated with our backs up against the front window and the side of the table flush to the wall, it was impossible for the server to get to some of us without reaching across and in front of the others. Our offers to "pass it down" were declined which I'm sure was part of the training and an effort to try and keep things a little more formal. It seems we were caught between a rock and a hard place (or a window and a wall) and neither option was ideal. This may also be why drink service was a bit lax since any refilling of our glasses would have required more uncomfortable reaching. While perfectly adequate it is small things that kept the service here from rising to a level above the ordinary. It was interesting that our server bounced between the all too common lately and incredibly annoying affectation of referring to us in the first person plural; "Have We decided what We would like to eat?" and the equally annoying and overly familiar "You Guys". Neither approach fits the bill. Also serving a dessert with nuts on top after we had already established that one of our party had a severe nut allergy was actually a dangerous oversight. That brings me to the food. First we shared the short rib egg roll appetizer (thanks to a Yelp check-in deal). It was full of meat and and quite flavorful - a clever twist on a classic egg roll appetizer. Our salads were crisp and fresh and had just the right amount of the house made dressings to add flavor without being over done. The croutons on the Caesar had a nice crunch and seasoning. The bread they serve has a good crust and a nice chew and the garlic herbed olive oil along side was a pleasant alternative to butter. We had steaks (or steak tips) all around and they all came out cooked to the requested temperatures. My NY strip had good flavor and was well seasoned. My friend's filet was nice and tender. My husband's ribeye had some excessively large fatty areas that he had to trim away but the areas with the more classic ribeye marbling were very flavorful. The baked potato was fluffy. The garlic mashed potatoes were on the stiff side and had a pleasant amount of garlic without being overpowering. The sautéed spinach tasted good but was less creamy than chewy. It wasn't possible to get a portion onto the fork without a little help separating it away from the rest with a knife or the edge of the fork. The salted caramel panna cotta dessert while good, didn't really live up to its description. Neither the salt nor the caramel was particularly discernible and what they called chocolate ganache was more of a chocolate pudding, lacking the richer texture of a ganache. All this being said, we enjoyed our overall meal. If you are looking for a nice meal at a reasonable price served in an intimate space that has the heart of a high end steakhouse cloaked in the comfort and familiarity of a local family run corner restaurant, you won't be disappointed.

What a wonderful experience! WE dined at the BAck Room Steakhouse last night and couldn't believe how fantastic it was. Having dined at some of the best restaurants in the world, and in the area, this one deserves 5 stars and more. He went with the Ribeye Steak (enjoying the creamed spinach and garlic mashed potatoes) while I enjoyed the Blackened Chicken with fettucini penne. We also opted for the risotto since the owner, Ed Conlan, was kind enough to suggest at least trying it. I am so glad he did. I have not had risotto this good since leaving Rome. It was perfection! The entire meal was amazing, as was the service. Jenny, our server, helped us out when making the final decision of what dessert to go with... and the Panna Cotta was fabulous! If you haven't dined here, make a reservation and enjoy. You will not be disappointed. The service, food and atmosphere are all fantastic.

We have just eaten the best steaks we've ever had in our lives. Get the Ribeye. Try the red wine blend. Great service by Sue. Owner Ed comes and shakes your hand. Can't beat it.

Ok, a couple of things.....my best friend raved about this place and suggested we go back with her and another couple. She made a reservation and was called back and told the place next door was having an out door party in the parking lot so we might not get a parking space. We should have known and not gone, we wanted to go to this place for a romantic night out with our spouses. This was so far from it ! The door kept opening and closing and people from the parking lot party kept coming in and out and the little kids sitting at the tables all around us. At over $30.00 a meal I do not want to listen to kids (I have them and got a babysitter). The TV's were on and a Gator game was playing--I am a huge football fan --and I mean huge ! But I could have gone next door if I wanted to watch the game and listened to people scream and yell at a tv--again $30.00 for a steak. Our waitress was great --Gina from Brockton Ma !!! The wine was good and the steak was great but it was not worth going on this day and sadly my husband will never go back again, me maybe but not on a night with a parking lot party and little kids running around inside a place with $30.00 + steaks.

Walked into this place around 6pm on a Friday night, place was empty but we were refused service because we didn't have a reservation! Seriously? Never, ever been refused service because I didn't have a reservation! First time trying to eat here and certainly my last ....

We just tried to eat here for the first time. No one was in the restaurant. After consulting with the manager the hostess informs us we are not welcome because we do not have a reservation. We will take our party of four and spend our money elsewhere. I won't come back.

Delicious 10oz strip, risotto, pork chop, fried chicken and broccolini. Would highly recommend! I have never been disappointed with their food! I have been to the top well known fine dining establishments in orlando, Tampa and Central Florida and nothing is better than this. You can be casual or dress up they welcome everyone. The owner is always present Ed and is on top of everything. The best way to describe it is a small hole in the wall, flavorful and fresh with a welcoming quaint not stuffy atmosphere worth every penny. 5 star hidden gem! I have gone countless times and recommended it to others who live far and they drove over an hour and keep going back. Try it! It's a must!

I had the burger and sweet tater fries & it was great! Table also ordered shrimp pasta and ribeye. Our app was fried green tomatoes. Beers on tap looked like a pretty solid collection. Overall it was nice to see someone in the area offering quality food! Everything was very tasty, though I feel it was pricey for 3 people. $86 for dinner when there was only 1 bud light & two waters.

My wife and I have eaten at many steak houses. This is by far one of the best steak houses we have ever eaten at. It is priced about the same as Del Frisco's or Ruth's Chris and the food is either just as good or better. The restaurant is on the small side so I would recommend having a reservation. 5 stars all the way!

Short and sweet, here we go: 1) Make a reservation...you will get turned away 2) The food is amazing...hands down. I've had everything, and their drink selection. It's all great. 3) Check out their deals...their happy hour is great. 4) It's small...quaint...so it has a nice feel to it Simply, you should definitely try it. You won't be sorry.

What a great find!! My hubby & I decided to try Backroom after reading the wonderful reviews here on Yelp. We were not disappointed!! Amazing food & great service! Hands down one of the best steaks Ive ever had. Seasoned & cooked perfectly!(And we eat a lot of steak). It's a very small place, with few tables so definitely make a reservation. Our only complaint, they sat a large party right next to us & it was a very very tight squeeze between tables. Other than that, very enjoyable experience & we will definitely be back!

Excellent place! The steak was outstanding even the mashed potatoes. Just make sure you call first to make a reservations we didn't and when we went there at 530 they were booked till 8 that night. We were lucky to get a seat at the bar.

Excellent fine dining in an unexpected location. The restaurant is very small and well staffed. The folks here obviously take pride in their establishment. The head chef (owner?) came to our table twice to make sure everything was perfect. We had the caprese salad and fried shrimp to start. The shrimp were large and came with a soy dipping sauce.... More of a shrimp tempura then popcorn shrimp. We had the sea bass and rib eye for dinner. The rib eye was excellent and perfectly cooked. The risotto with the bass was outstanding. We drove 30 miles from Walt Disney World and it was worth it. Don't be put off by the strip mall location. The windows are blacked out and the inside is perfectly charming. A hidden gem and highly recommended if you want to escape the theme park madness.

Well, we all left very happy from the Back Room. The steaks were cooked perfectly and were very juicy (I think they were lacking some beefy flavor, however - it has been a long time since I've been blown away by the intensity and depth of flavor in a steak) and the side items were very tasty (especially the broccolini and risotto - you can tell they use good stock to make it!) Also, the goat cheese dumpling appetizer is fantastic for those of you who love the goat products and the service was excellent; the owner even came around a couple of times to make sure everything was great. The lone disappointment was my mother's (it was mother's day) fish. Even though the menu said it was wild caught, she was sure it was farmed salmon...the sauce that came with the fish and the sides she had she really did enjoy though. As a previous reviewer mentioned, if you get the pannacotta( which is delicious in the end) don't expect it to come with traditional ganache; it is much closer to a mousse. One more thing - I see this place as a direct competitor in the Orlando area for Linda's La Cantina, and given the choice, i'd go for a Back Room experience every time.

Went there on a Wednesday night at 9:15pm. They were very accommodating to our late arrival (they close at 10pm). We both had steaks and they were perfectly cooked as ordered. Everything was delicious! We will def go there again. I don't give 5 stars unless it was out of this world, sorry.

I'm concerned as to who is running this place. I agree with the other reviewer Brooke who says it was awkward since you do walk right into tables - it then gets progressively worse when they try to turn you away in a near empty restaurant. I'll explain. When we arrived the entire restaurant was empty except for two tables. We were almost turned away because they were "booked full" but as we walked away the bartender stated that her next reservation at the bar was at 7p (it was 530p), and we could sit at the corner of the bar. The server then restated that we only had an hour and a half. (yes I understood and could do the math. I didn't need to be told repeatedly) We then were directed to sit at the corner of the bar up against a wall behind one of the only tables sat (so I was right up against this woman.....again, unnecessary in an empty restaurant).... I then was further annoyed that after an hour and a half the restaurant STAYED empty and watched as they turned at least 10 people away (I stopped counting at 10) due to not having a reservation. The poor servers could have turned those tables in that time and still kept the "reservations" they supposedly had. When we walked out of the restaurant at 7p, it was still empty - and no one was coming in. I did manage to notice the people these servers turned away were next door at Beef O Brady's. Imagine, you could have had those tips in your pocket, but instead exchanged it for empty tables. As for the food - we ordered: Appetizer - Scallops and polenta. The flavor was very good - except the scallops were gritty. Someone forgot to get the sand off. We ate it anyway - I was starving and told myself I plucked the scallops at the beach myself. We also ordered the NY strip and Ribeye. Both were cooked correctly, and were well seasoned. I was surprised. Overall, the food was ok and the best you'll get in this area- but due to our ill - welcoming to begin with, I would rather drive into town for better hospitality.

This was a great experience from start to finish! We made our reservations online and the restaurant called to confirm the day of (very nice). Our table was ready when we got there. The dining room was much smaller than I thought it would be but turns out to be perfect and cozy. We were immediately greeted by our waitress who told us the specials and took our drink orders. Every time she checked on our table she had a smile on her face and made us feel like we were the only ones there (every table was full). We had a small problem with one of our bottles of wine but it was immediately resolved with a better than expected outcome. We also had some people in our party with special dietary needs and they were well taken care of with assurances from the kitchen that everything ordered would meet their needs. The steaks were tender, perfectly seasoned, and delicious. Appetizers and side dishes were also better than the average steakhouse. We could not find the room for dessert but the options looked delicious. We are so happy to find this little gem in Apopka--can't believe we did not know about it before and can't wait to go back.

The New York strip steak was one of the best steaks I have ever had. I was very satisfied with the sides. I will most definitely go back. The only downside is that there not a children's menu and nothing for children on the adult menu.

I have been to a ton of steak places but this is a little gem. While not the most elegant clubby steak house it served delicious steak cook perfectly. The wedge salad was excellent. The ribeye was great. Several people got the filet an all where very happy. It is a bit noisy and lacking a proper wine selection. Especially white wine as no restaurant should serve 2 wines from Cupcake vineyard. Just saying. Still I will go back and try the many non steak items on the menu.

Excellent quality! Excellent service! Very very good food for Apopka area. I took a chance and had the 14 oz strip Pittsburgh rare. They really did a superb job on the Pittsburgh style. We also enjoyed the calamari, the house salad and all their homemade dressings. I would recommend the back room steakhouse.

I have been to Back Room Steakhouse twice now. I am convinced that this place is Apopka's best kept secret. The first time that I went to Back Room, we almost left. It is a tiny hole in the wall that is difficult to find and does not look impressive when you enter. However, the food and the wait staff MORE than make up for the ambiance. We started with the calamari, and the marinara sauce (I usually don't even use marinara sauce on my calamari), was to DIE FOR! I even asked for a cup of it to dip our bread into, it was that good. I had a New York Strip Steak with the asparagus, and it was cooked to PERFECTION. The asparagus was also very good. My drink, which was on their menu (I can't remember the name of it, but it was a gin based cocktail that was served in a small mason jar), was also very tasty. My Husband got the pork and he was very pleased with his entree as well. The second time I got the New York Strip with the sweet potato fries, which are fabulous! Don't let the look of this place fool you. The waitstaff is amazing and the food even better!

Absolutely succulent amazing food. The prime rib melted in our mouths, the scallops were the best I've ever had, and the service was excellent. They even gave us a free dessert, by way of apology for the food taking longer than normal (but it hadn't taken long in our opinion). Wonderful place!

  • Jenise C.

Wow! Very impressed with this find. The service was friendly and everyone enjoyed their meals. The boneless ribeye (medium rare) - mouthwatering. Grilled chicken, juicy and flavorful. I would have given it 5 stars, but there isn't really a kids menu (so they ordered sides) and the black windows on the outside doesn't make it very enticing to walk into, but once you're in there it's fine. I recommend they change the entrance. Just doesn't feel like you're walking into a restaurant. It's dark windows and you have no idea what a little gem is behind the doors.

This is the best restaurant in Apopka. With that said, it still may not be great, but it is very good. They have high quality food, and service. It is on the pricier side so not a place you would go to all the time, but definetly worth going to occasionally.

We do not dine out often, but when we do, we dine at the finer restaurants around Central Florida. We live in the Apopka area and had never heard of the Back Room Steakhouse. I decided to try it for my wife's birthday dinner with four other guests - based on the comments on Yelp. All of us had the same comment after dinner... We cannot recall a better dining experience anywhere at any price. Four of us had filet. One requested medium well, one medium rare and two rare. All were cooked to perfection. They were tender and extremely tasty - especially considering they were filet. The drinks and appetizers were generous and well prepared. The bread (a sign of a good restaurant in my opinion) was wonderful. We took the last three bottles of Caymus 40th Anniversary Cabernet to top off a perfect dinner. (one came home with us). I would consider myself a very picky person when it comes to dining out. Even the top rated establishments have me finding some fault. Not the case here. Well, one minor thing... The deserts were not up to my expectation based on the meal. The cheesecake was fantastic. The chocolate layer cake was a bit better than average. There was another chocolate desert with some sort of gelatin topping. The gelatin was unappealing, but the chocolate below was worth setting aside the topping.

I'm on the fence about this review. Really it was a 3.5 star meal. If this restaurant was on Park Avenue in Winter Park it would get a 3 star rating from me for sure. Being that it is in lowly Apopka it should get 4 stars for being one of the best restaurants in town. This may be Apopka's only "special occasion" restaurant located, oddly enough, adjoining a Beef O'Brady's. The place is tiny so I would definitely recommend a reservation. At 6pm on a Friday evening we watched the place fill to capacity within 15 minutes. The layout is tight. We were seated at the table closest to the door so that every time the door opened we were blinded by sunlight. This would only be a problem until the sun went down, of course, but was annoying none the less. Service was a little slow, especially at first. Our drinks took a while in the making but were good once we had them. Our server had limited knowledge of the types of alcohol available and squinted to read them at the bar from our table. I was starving and it took a bit to get our appetizer. Strangely they bring the bread and dipping oil only after the appetizer. It sure would have been nice to have when we first sat down. Anyway, the scallop appetizer ($16 but half off with a Yelp check in) was decent. The scallops were cooked nicely and flavorful but there was just too much oil. They ended up tasting slimy. My Chilean Sea Bass tasted better than it looked. My hubby's lamb chops would have been perfect if they hadn't been a tad over cooked. The three layer chocolate cake we split for dessert was rich but tasted dry, like a slice that had been precut then left out for a few hours to dry. So overall if was a good experience with a handful of small let downs. It definitely has potential to be great, and as far as Apopka goes is probably one of the greatest in the area. It isn't cheap though, as entrees will set you back in the $20-30 range. Still, if you plan it as a night out you'll likely leave satisfied. On a side note, the night we dined we saw the newly elected mayor Kilshiemer celebrating with newly elected councilman Sam Ruth. Word about this place is getting out!

Our server was pleasant; the atmosphere happily noisy. Two in our party ordered the restaurant's special for the day: fried chicken. The server said it would take an extra 20 minutes. We agreed so we could visit and enjoy a glass of wine. It took 1 hour and 20 minutes to receive our dinners. The chicken was so salty that I could not eat mine; my friend felt the same but she did say the meat without the crisp outside was okay. The cost for the chicken special was $19. I wonder what the regular price would be? Another one of our party ordered steak at $30. It was chewy but flavorful. We should have gone to KFC. We decided we will not be going there again. I am most disappointed as we had heard good reviews from friends.

The Back Room is long overdue proof that Apopka is ready for good, locally owned restaurants. The room is small but comfortable. We stopped late on a Sunday and were seated immediately. Dark wood paneling gives the room something of a typical steakhouse feel but on a small scale, and decorations are a classy nod to Apopka's history. I did not get to enjoy the exceptional beer list this trip due to some medicine that I am on this week, but I could tell that the diverse selection of local and US craft brews were picked with great care. There was a lot of Cigar City on the list, with a nice emphasis on their less common dark ales instead of their heavily marketed IPAs. Judging by the Rancilio Silvia espresso machine behind the counter and the Elektra Micro Casa a Leva on display near the restrooms, I am guessing that they are trying to do after dinner coffee properly on a small scale as well. You can tell a lot about small restaurants by their drink lists and coffee equipment. For starters, we had the chorizo sausage and goat cheese sliders. They were elegantly presented, and the sauce was excellent. Next up, I had the ribeye. Tender, juicy, and cooked a proper rare uniformly throughout but with a good sear. It was lightly seasoned, but that is all that a good steak needs. Very nicely prepared. I like a slightly less rich cut of beef typically, and I think that I will try the NY strip next time. The baked potato side had a slight salt and pepper crust to the skin and was simple but delicious. My wife had the salmon on risotto with asparagus, and I think it was even better than the steak. She is still raving about the sauce. For desert, we shared a very reasonably priced slice of chocolate ganache cake. Everything we ate ranged from good to excellent, and the service was friendly and attentive. While we were there, I witnessed one of the waitresses run out into the parking lot to catch a customer who forgot his leftovers before he pulled away. It's a simple act, but it's not the type of service that you would historically find in an Apopka restaurant. Count me in as a fan. The Back Room shows careful attention to the necessary details of good quality dining, and I hope it marks the first of a new generation of Apopka culinary options.

The quality of the steaks was superior, and the preparation was perfect. My wife had the filet mignon and it was cooked a perfect medium well as requested. My boneless ribeye was a perfect medium with huge flavor and perfect texture. Our server Alex was knowledgeable, professional and attentive without being intrusive. There's only about 45 seats, so small and intimate. The casual environment belies the incredible quality of the food. A hidden gem of semi-fine dining in the fast-food bastion of Apopka. Highly recommend!

Wow!!! Are we really in Apopka? The Back Room has delicious food, excellent service, and an authentic steakhouse ambiance. What more is there? Don't bother hiking to Winter Park. The real deal is right here in a strip mall!!! So why not five stars for such an uncharacteristically rave review? The exterior decor. My wife and I are not native to the area. At 8:30 PM on Saturday, we were in search of something that wasn't Taco Bell or McDonalds, but close to our relatives in Errol Estates. After a bit of driving, we saw a strip mall with a large generic sign that simply read, "Steakhouse." We pulled into the mall and found The Back Room's adjacent sister restaurant which appears to be a family friendly bar and grill. Next to the brightly lit, clearly-branded, family-friendly grill was what appeared to be from the exterior a strip club with a worn awning that read, "Steakhouse," and a door with the words, "The Back Room," in orange lettering. My wife and I thought it was an elicit club for men and even joked about it. Just then, we saw a rather distinguished looking couple exiting in business casual attire. Only because we saw them exiting did we dare to go inside. We were greeted warmly without a reservation. As you read in the first paragraph, we were won over pretty instantly and any cursory notes we made would best be described as "being very picky." For those who are erroneously claiming that this establishment doesn't take walk-ins, they took us immediately; however, for those that prefer to dine at peak times, stop whining and call ahead. This is not a fast food drive-through or a burger joint - make a reservation, put on a button down shirt, and try a bit of civilized behavior. In summary, this place is the real deal. Excellent service, delicious food, warm feeling, and unique to its market. Now it's time to invest in the exterior so visitors like us aren't deterred. One should never judge a book by its cover, but the entrance to a steakhouse is not the cover of a book. The warmth and quality need to be drawn outdoors to the signage, the exterior, and the branding. Clearly this is something the owner knows how to do (the bar and grill next door has a distinct identity and is under the same ownership) now he has to make the same type of investment in Orange County's hidden treasure, The Back Room.

First of all the service was amazing. They couldn't do enough for us. The food was delicious. I'm known to be a pretty good griller so I know steak. The flavor of the steak was terrific and they cooked it perfectly. I would come back !

I love this place. The food is delicious. I always get the NY Strip and it's perfect every time. The salads are tasty with their homemade dressing. Lots of warm bread is brought out to your table. Attentive waiters and staff. My kids adore the pork chops so we make this a special treat for them. I'm so glad we have this treasure in Apopka now!

This restaurant is a hidden gem. The first time I came here, I couldn't find it- it is hidden in plain sight. Behind a small, nondescript awning that says "Steak House" is some of the finest steak you will find in the area. Upon entering, you will find a small restaurant with a bar in the corner and several tables. No hostess stand, as some others have complained about, but I don't see the problem- it would take up valuable space for others to enjoy such fine food. The steaks are among the best I have ever had- and I have had a lot all over the world. The cuts are amazing and the are cooked perfectly. Perfectly. While steak is definitely king here, they have several items on the menu for almost any taste. The Chilean Sea Bass is awesome, as is the Pork Chop. The pasta looks good, but I have not yet tried it. My favorite side dish is the Risotto, it is rare to see this offered as a side. The wine selection is great, and the prices are fair. One thing- if you expect 5-star fine dining treatment like in a high end steakhouse, you will be disappointed- it is a very casual and relaxed atmosphere here- almost like you are at a friends restaurant. For me, this is a plus. The owner, Ed, is a gracious and friendly host, and seems honestly concerned about your experience. I like a restaurant where the owner himself checks on you- that is class.

I really like this place. The steak is OK, but not great, and that's why I gave it only four stars. The best thing on the menu are the Back Room scallops. They are well seasoned scallops on a bed of polenta, with sweet peppers and a Beurre Blanc reduction. Awesome! I actual crave them from time to time. The prices are that of a four star restaurant, and the food description is as well. The probelm is the protein execution. It's good, but ironically enough, it's the only thing on the menu not seasoned properly. It's like they decided to keep the salt away from the meat station, but have a vat of it in waiting near the sides. So strange. I'm not sure it's worth the price for steaks, but totally worth the appetizers and drinks. I'd say stop in just for an appetizer. The atmosphere is very laid back which I thoroughly enjoy.

There is no hostess stand so you feel a bit awkward when you walk in but that quickly dissipates after your first bite of food. We had a small snafu with the salads coming out before the app but it turned out to be advantageous. We ordered the scallops atop polenta as an app and filets for dinner, so we had surf and turf...and who can complain about that. Our waitress did profusely apologized and management came to our table also and comped the first round of drinks. Speaking of drinks, the wine selection by the glass is so-so, but the full bar has a great selection of bourbon that were 2 for 1 at 7pm. The filet is quite frankly one of the best I've ever had, and that includes TX, NY and Vegas. It was grilled to perfection. A lot of places like to throw butter on a decent piece of meat. Not the Backroom. I could cut my filet with a fork and it tasted like steak not butter. Definite steakgasm material. We will definitely return. I only say 4 stars because I like a really good glass of red with my steak. Side note: make a resy because it is quaint (aka small) and parties walked in and were turned away left and right!

Decided to dine here again for a special occasion. Previous choices were so good we both decided to order again. Again, everything was cooked to perfection. Service was excellent and dining experience overall was great. I would highly recommend dining here for any occasion. We look forward to our next opportunity to eat here again.

Best steak (Porterhouse) we have had in years! Done to perfection, tender and tasty. Garlic mashed potatoes and fried sweet potatoes (dressed with honey) were superb. The above was coupled with great service and cozy vibe. Hope for a follow up visit in our next trip to Orlando.
