AWESOME food! My favorite is the General Pso's chicken. Great prices with plenty of food. Husband & Wife own it and they cook all the food. Very clean, small place. I usually call for take out. Great lunch specials!

Rose Garden

Reviews:
The family owned and operated Rose Garden moved into the old Maui Teriyaki space this past fall, and it's a welcome addition to Alachua's food options. They made the interior look so much better and cleaner compared to Maui Teriyaki. It doesn't look or feel like the old space at all. With the closing of some of the better restaurants in town, it's nice to have a reliably good place to eat at. At my first visit, I was so excited to see that this is a sit-down Chinese restaurant. It seems like the majority of Chinese restaurants to pop up around central Florida are the take-out variety with identical menus. You can always order off the menu, but at peak times they operate a condensed buffet. The smaller buffet allows them to focus on quality as opposed to quantity. The options on their buffet are Chinese restaurant staples you would expect to see. I think it would be great for them to highlight one house specialty on their buffet each day, that way they could introduce their guests to their other menu options, while still allowing everyone to have something they know about. Generally they are not slammed, and their service if fast. How places like Brown's Country Buffet can be packed while much higher quality food is down the street is beyond me. What they do is reliable, fast, and affordable. I would like to see them focus on preparing some "fine" dinning options. You can tell the chef has the standards down pat, but seeing a focus on house specialties would be icing on the cake. Given the location and potential audience, though, that kind of idea might not take off. Sadly, some people just want buffet action by the pound.
The other reviews are spot on. This place was a great rest stop lunch for us on our adventure from Tampa to Ginnie Springs. We ordered the vegetable fried rice, broccoli stir fry, and tofu stir fry. All were awesome and came out fresh. On top of that, the sweet server we had was beyond wonderful. She was so kind and observant without being too intrusive. Our next trip to Ginnie we will most definitely stop here!
Love this place. Never had a bad meal from here. Owners very nice and personable. Prices are great and food is made fast.

Five of us stopped in and 4 of 5 decided to get pizza without dough. The owner was very nice and helpful. The sauce and meat was great and worth the short drive from the interstate!! Take notice of their hours- they close after lunch and reopen for supper!!
I love this place! They make great pizza, which they load with cheese and toppings. The family that owns it are always friendly and engaging. I have eaten here many times and am never disappointed. They lose a star for not accepting credit/debit cards. Yes they have an ATM in house, but I don't want to have to pay ATM fees just to buy dinner. Mark up the pizzas a few cents for the convenience of your customers.
Ordered a 12' half with pineapples and ham- the other half with onions and mushrooms. It was fast and tasty.

Your Stromboli was PRETTY FREAKING GOOD! I was surprised to have enjoyed it so much. Though it was simply stuffed with the perfect mix of ingredients and baked for a golden freshly baked crust. By asking for that extra cheese on the custom sides menu, the cheese melted like it was my lunches moment of happiness. I will be back regularly if you keep this up! Might even setup quick lunch pickup. Side note: maybe some lunch specials or menu would get me there several time a week.
I'm absolutely in love with this place. I drive 30 min just to go here and anytime someone asks me for recommendations for a nice place to go, I tell them about New York Pizza Plus. They're also known as O Sole Mio and I've been here with big parties and small groups and everyone has had a great experience. The staff is friendly and the food comes out at a timely manner based on the quality of food they deliver. The baked ziti is to die for...
New York pizza outside of New York. These Guys know how to do Italian New York pizza. Clean and fast service. Wish the prices were lower.

Bev’s Better Burgers

I discovered Bev's about 2 months ago and I am IN LOVE WITH THEIR BURGERS. The meat taste fresh and beefy, not like a frozen patty. The flavors are good. The fixins are always crisp and fresh. Unsweet tea is available and GOOD. I also eat my burgers bunless and Bev's will serve it this way. Definitely looking forward to my next DOUBLE DOUBLE w/ BACON, MAYO, KETCHUP AND TOMATOES ONLY! Shout out to Pauline. Always in a good mood and polite! Until next time!
You won't find a more miserable and horrible dining experience in the USA than this fine establishment here. I came with one other person, my girlfriend, on a Tuesday morning. There was no one else in sight. The lady working the counter was shouting at us with a nasty snarl from the get go. We were never greeted, no one said "Hello", she just slammed the window open and said "YES!?" She yelled "CAN'T HEAR YOU" with vile hostility while staring at the floor despite us yelling our order through the open window. It was as if taking our quick order was sending her to the Gulag. I had an immediate intuition that we should leave and go somewhere else, but forgave the extremely rude woman at the window, hoping the meal would make up for her behavior. The food arrived several minutes later, and I slam dunked it like LeBron into the trashcan after 3 bites. I have never in my life left a meal unfinished from a paid eatery, even if I didn't like it. The grits tasted like watery mucus from someone with chronic pneumonia. It was completely liquid and obviously purely sulfur water. I've eaten plain grits from the worst of places and they were outstanding compared to this vile specimen. The biscuits tasted like dried dog excrement. The scrambled eggs tasted like a rubber tire from the side of the highway. After reading all the good reviews, I couldn't believe how DISGUSTING AND REVOLTING EVERYTHING WAS. The service was what amazed me the most. My girlfriend was incredibly polite despite the woman being a scowling witch the entire ordeal. When she said "Thank you!" to her as she was handing us the food, she finally offered "manners" by snarling "WELCOME" and slamming the food down at us and slamming the window in her face. She literally slammed the food at my girlfriend for no apparent reason whatsoever. I went back to the window to calmly and politely ask why they acted like this, and they stared at me as if Satan had complete possession of their souls. I wasn't even upset at this point, just confused, mortified, and a little bit scared for my life. I honestly don't understand why they held such hostility to two paying customers trying to have a quick simple breakfast, it was the most confusing and amazing experience I have had in a long time. This was BY FAR my worst eating experience out of 50 states and 7 countries by about a million miles. I'll never forget this hilariously horrible experience, and would NEVER EVER RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANY HUMAN, ANIMAL OR VIRUS. I will do all I can to spread the word about how horrible this experience was. Stay FAR away!!!
Food is good but service extremely lacking. Last 2 times I visited...or should I say, tried to visit...they were closed early. Went again today and they closed right after we ordered (45 minutes early). People kept coming up and the employees just ignored them. They shorted someone in the drive thru an order of fries. When he came back they said "sorry our fryers are turned off" and didn't offer any substitution or refund.

Brown’s Country Buffet

Reviews:
I wasn't crazy about their breakfasts either. Go on a Sunday afternoon (be forewarned about the church crowd) and try the buffet. It is delicious home-cooked comfort food. Fried chicken, baked chicken, turkey and stuffing, turnip greens, green beans, mashed potatoes, mac n cheese, CARROT SOUFFLE (omg, the best!!) Give it another try. Don't waste your time or calories on the desserts, very mediocre (except for the peach cobbler...its not too bad.) I also hear the seafood buffet on Friday nights is pretty good.
Great fried chicken and fried pork chops on Thursday. Standard country buffet food. Agree with others that food can be bland and a higher quality ingredient would improve the food dramatically. But as fast as the food goes I can understand why they use mostly canned veggies. The carrot soufflé is very good. 3 stars for the friendly staff and consistently good chicken and chops.
**I will come back to Brown's at some point and review them on an actual meal. This review is solely for the take-out breakfast.** This morning my boss offered to treat me to breakfast. Brown's is less than two minutes away from my job and has a reputation as an excellent buffet. He recommended the bacon & egg sandwich highly. Everyone who ordered (except me) got that sandwich. I went with scrambled eggs, sausage, grits and toast. Regular ol' diner fare that any greasy spoon should be able to do well. The restaurant was on a 20-minute take-out delay when I called in the food, so that may have had something to do with it. All the same, this was probably one of the worst breakfasts I've ever had. All of the food was cold. Not lukewarm, COLD. The eggs were crusted on top and runny in several places underneath. All in all, quite terrible and a meal that would have absolutely been sent back to the kitchen if I had been on premises. Everyone else enjoyed their food, so I have no idea what went wrong with mine. I'll get them another shot ... just not sure when and not sure if I'd be willing to pay for it myself.

El Toro

Reviews:
Didn't expect such good Mexican food in this small place but like every other time my experiment with Mexican food came out pretty good. To start with, they have one of the best salsa I've had till date. Food quality is very good and their portions are also good enough. We were three and we had to pack some food of the two dishes we ordered. I would definitely suggest this place, if you are looking for good Mexican food in this area.
Pretty much done trying. We live in Alachua, and try to patronize local businesses. El Toro has been a consistent disappointment, for various reasons. Tonight was the last straw. We were seated at the table right next to the out-swinging kitchen door, where my husband actually had to unscrew the light-bulb hanging 3 inches from his forehead, so that he could see, even if he couldn't hear over the kitchen roar. After getting about half way through our chips, we discovered an Earwig insect in the chips. I called someone over to show it to them, and she picked it up, rolled it between her fingers and declared it a "burnt french fry that stayed too long in the oil". Uh, no. It had a forked tail, legs and feelers. She assured us it was a burnt french fry, whisked the basket away, and another server appeared with new chips. I had the chicken and spinach burrito, while my husband had pork. The chicken tasted fresh from the can. The rice that came with the meal was crunchy, and under-cooked. The refried beans were more like four times fried, and dry. The whole table-spoon portion full. The check came, and the queso dip that is supposed to be complimentary, was almost $3 and no adjustment or apology was made regarding the dead Earwig in the chips. This restaurant has steadily gone down in quality. I try to give establishments chances, but I think I've spent enough money at El Toro for over priced, flavorless, bug garnished, slop.
You are kidding right? The owners' daughter tried to warn me, "it's not authentic, more Tex-Mex," after telling her we just moved to the area from Mexico. She was not kidding, the burritos served at McDonald's for breakfast is more authentic. If this is the best that Gainesville has to offer, I'm going to import a Mexican family to open a real Taqueria just to get a real taco. I can't believe they put thousand Island dressing on shrimp tacos... That should be a crime.

A short visit to a pleasant place for an appetizer and liquid refreshments. We ordered a full plate of the Texas Nachos: brisket, melted cheese and French fries. The full plate was perfect for an early afternoon repast. Coupled with a large draft beer and sweet tea, not much else was needed. The server was friendly and efficient. The cool dining room was a nice respite from the 93 degree outside.
There was no line to get a table, which was huge size. I was a little turned off by the stuffed animals, so I ate outside upstairs, which was real cool. The service was friendly and good. The chicken was cooked just right! crispy on the outside, moist, not greasy or oily, on the inside.....i found 3 sauces that i really like, so i used them....though there are at least 6-7 to choose from. Better than Sonny Bono's, I'll definitly eat here again!
My wife and I had a very enjoyable experience here. We were seated promptly and courteously. As we walked in I noticed that there was fairly decent live music on the bar patio. Our food came out in a timely fashion and was well prepared in Bubba-Q's fashion. I had the sliced turkey plate and it was probably the best turkey that I've had between the five Bubba-Q's Ive dined at. My wife's meal was also well prepared. Our waitress was great. There when we needed her and gone when we didn't. She was sweet and enjoyable when she was with us. The decorating in this particular Bubba-Q's doesn't follow the usual Bubba-Q's protocol. Its just plain strange. Nothing in the restaurant makes sense. Theres this dull paint color with garage sale junk strewn about the walls. The furniture and tables are antiquated. The place just doesn't have any vibe or feel. Bummer. Those of you who've read my reviews know I'm a bathroom snob. The restrooms here need help. There are occasional attempts to keep them clean but the dinginess of the current fixtures negates the idea that they could ever appear presentable. Time for some updating. Thanks for making it this far and spending your time on my review. Could you please give a click below to tell me what you thought? Thanks!

I really love the food here, but lately they haven't been able to deliver their usual quality. The food has been EXTREMELY salty, whether it's the bread, chicken, or even the fries. This isn't my conclusion from 1 visit, but my last 3! I keep coming back because I hope they will have improved. Hopefully the salt problem can be fixed because everything else is fine. The place is always clean, the workers are beyond polite, and the milkshakes are mouthwatering. My usual order is a Nibblerz meal (3 mini sandwiches, fries, and a good sized drink: $6.29).
Can't say I've had any problems with this location. I've been there 5-6 times and the food was good and staff was friendly. Never order a soda though. Go down the road abs get a .99 cent soda
What can I say about Zaxbys other than I love their chicken. The chains are not on the west coast so I always get my fill when I come back to Florida. It might be labeled fast food but the chicken is always cooked when the order is placed and it's ten times better than a KFC, churches or Popeyes. I'll be back again next year during my annual Florida visit.
