I really try to like Smitty McGee's because it is not a chain and is locally owned but it is so hard with the bad service and dismissive attitude from management. I understand restaurants have rules but there is a certain way to talk to people especially guests in your restaurant. And that is where the biggest problem is. At Smitty's you are not a guest but just another customer. While there to watch a football game with a few friends we were charged incorrectly for an item on our check. When pointing out to the server we asked for separate checks. She stated she would talk to the manager about the problem. Someone who was obviously not the manager (based on the fact she was waiting on other tables) came to the table said they problem was fixed but we couldn't get the separate checks. When I asked why she said "because the menu says so" and walked away. No apology for the error. After this it took the server about 15 minutes to process our payment. And when she returned the check presenter there wasn't a thank you or anything. Just put it down and walked away. I definitely don't go out to eat to be treated like this. Also the back of their menu states, "when driving, we encourage our patrons to drink moderately or have a designated driver." I don't think anyone who is driving should be "encouraged" to drink anything. The only reason I noticed this is because this is where the no separate checks statement was.

Smitty's had always been our favorite beach restaurant. It hurts a little to give them less than 4 or 5 stars but they definitely have room for improving. As other reviewers have said, Smitty's does have a funky odor now. It needs a deep cleaning and maybe a replacement of any carpets. Our food was no better than average. My shrimp tacos were made with tiny cocktail shrimp with a little Old Bay and not the large steamed shrimp Smitty's had been known for and was promised in the menu. The boneless wings were dry and bland. The regular wings were good. Our favorite thing there, crabby cheese fries, were good but not as good as in past visits. Our server was very good. Nobody seemed to be managing the place on Sunday. We've gone to Smitty's for almost 20 years. Well give them another chance but will find another place if things don't improve. There are plenty of options in that area.

Been coming here for years and have slowly watched the service and condition and of the place decline. Walked in tonight and it smelled like old, wet carpet, went into the bathroom and it had a smell similar to cat urine. Watched the bartender use a blender container normally used for making frozen drinks to drain the foam off a fresh keg, without rinsing it he put it right back on the blender. The one thing I will say is the food is still great but the atmosphere kills my desire to return.

Sat at the bar ordered a french dip and onion rings a beer and an iced tea. It has been over 50 minutes waiting for my food. There is one bartender for about 30 people. Food is mediocre.

As I sit here, I ponder between three and four stars. The food was amazing but I felt this place as a whole could have improvement. We approached the dinning area to a sign that directed us to the bar area. Once we walked in, no greeting or hostess stand. Confused and hungry we sat down at a table of our choice. We awaited a waitress. When she arrived she didn't give her name, welcome us or make much eye contact. Browsing through the menu, I thought I'd see more Irish inspiration. Bangers and mash, shepherds pie or even stew. You won't find much Irish in here. NO KIDS MENU. So you're forced to buy your little ones adult portions. How hard is it to make a smaller portion menu? Given the menu is green and the place has a nice wooden bar, that's about it. We ordered crab tots as a app and ordered drinks. When the drinks arrived they were in small pint glasses and consisted mostly of ice. I took one sip and realized my entire ice water was gone. This is a issue because the one waitress they have is taking care of 8 tables. Also, we noticed we were the only ones in the building under the age of 40. Lots of elderly and the place kinda smelled like a dirty diaper. Upon further investigation, I realized it's the carpet. It stinks! Needs a good cleaning. The food arrived...and I forgot all about everything above. The crab tots had chunks of lump crab. I had a turkey ciabatta sandwich with roasted red peppers. My wife had a open face shrimp sandwich topped with bacon. My kids shared chicken tenders and fries. The fries were beer battered and the chicken was fresh. Easily the tastiest food I have had since being in ocean city. I'd like to see the service improve and the menu have more Irish inspiration. I'd like to sit down and have a list of Irish whisky presented. Id like to see larger drink glasses and a kids menu. But other then that, great job smitty mcgees!

My family of 6 dined here on a Sunday night 8/23/15 because it was the only restaurant without a wait. We should have waited in line someplace else. The Good: The food came out fast and the wings were good but everything else was average at best. The Bad: The server was completely awful. The drink service was the worst. She had an excuse for everything. She claimed they didn't have apple juice, OJ or any dairy products. What kind of restaurant/bar doesn't have milk or OJ? After we received our drinks we couldn't get her to bring a refill for quite some time. She said they were out of glasses and offered to fill our sodas with water because she didn't want to take our glasses back to the bar to refill them. She charged us for a glass of water and then said she did so because they didn't have a lemonade button. This doesn't make any sense to me. The Ugly: the bathroom smelled like kitty litter. We won't be back.

The food is really good, but the place absolutely reeks like cat pee. I would definitely advise going somewhere else because the smell is just nauseating.

This place is really going down hill. No one greets you or even makes eye contact, the service is terrible and the place smells like a dirty bathroom. The iced tea is watered down and the fountain soda was flat. The loaded nachos had way too much salsa on it which made it a mushy mess. The only thing consistently good is their chicken wings. I won't be going back unless they make some changes starting with the SMELL

First time eating there. I ordered the grilled grouper sandwich. It looked like it was baked and no seasoning. I would not order it grilled again. Son in law ordered it fried and it looked better. He said it tasted good. I would try again and order something else.

Was here for lunch earlier. My food was fabulous, as was my fiancé's. Our friends order was screwed up but he said the food was good nonetheless. We sat at the bar, but we still kind of had slow service (the rest of the restaurant was full). Didn't ask if we wanted separate checks. All in all, I'd return again.
