Probably the best burger place in the state of Delaware. It is more of a traditional "Burger Joint", so don't expect white table cloth and silverware. I would recommend this place to everyone from children to adults.Fresh cut fries, beef and home made potato chips, you cannot beat this place.

The burgers and shakes are awesome! Parking is limited and the place was small last time I visited. Better than chain burgers!

What a great place for a burger, fries, and a shake. You are greeted warmly when you walk in the door. Great people working there who will bend over backwards to make your visit outstanding. Look out In n Out Burger...... Jake's is going to eat you for lunch!

I was lucky enough to find Jake's when I got lost looking for a supermarket when I was a freshman at Delaware. I saw a burger joint with a sign outside that advertised "For Sale - Top Soil" This was my kind of place! Back in the day it was different... they used to have RC Cola on draft, but have since made the big time with a Coke Machine. There used to be a day when you could get a burger, fries and a soda for under $5.00... now its a little more. The fries have changed a few times over the years but are still good. The burger remains the same fresh ground beef on a seasoned flat top... does not get much better. The memories are better than the "now" though... hence the four stars. Back in the day, it would have been twenty easy. "The Good" - The burgers are fresh and I like that, the buns used to be better tasting but are now bought in bulk and it shows... - The veggie toppings are fresh as well and always a great compliment to the burger. - The fries used to be the best around... now they are good, not the best in the world but still holding their own. - The best thing about Jake's... The Milkshakes. Plain and simple. Try the Black and White. Also, make sure you drink it there... you get the whole mixing cup, then get the left overs to go. If you just get one to go, they fit what they can into a to go cup and send you on your way. "The Meh" - The cashier will be hit or miss, they are usually college students looking for a job to get beer money, so sometimes they want to be there and other times... not so much. -The parking lot leaves a little to be desired. There are about six spots out front and the side lot can hold a ton more cars, but it is not paved and has pot holes from hell, so beware if you think the puddle is shallow, it may bottom out your car. - They take orders in a particular way without concerns for customer service... so before you tell them what you want, let them know if it is for here... or to go. "The Bad" - Nothing that bad to comment on.

Jakes is good. High priced but good burgers. BUT you have to deal with the thug barber and white trash pieces of shit around them to park. The thug barbers dealing heroin out of his barber shop and the white trash behind them do not like people parking on the side parking lot. I'm sticking to 5 guys.

If you are looking for a good inexpensive burger that falls in between a gourmet burger and a fast food burger, jakes a good place to go. The burgers are good, not the best I've ever had but definitely better than going to a Wendy's or McDonald's. Personally I like a bit more flavor to my burger, but that just goes to preference. The fries are tasty, but can be a little greasy at time (hit or miss depending on the visit). The shakes are pretty good with a good selection of flavors.

A "Five Guys" knock-off, I was uneasy walking into this shack. Fellow Yelpers convinced me to check it out. The burgers were AWESOME and reasonably priced. The fries weren't quite "Five Guys" status, but the burgers more than made up for it.

The location is a pain but it's worth the drive. Jake's burgers are the best fastfood around. It's simple stuff - burgers, fries, shakes - but it's damn tasty. If you're in Newark don't go to McDonalds, Wendys or Burger King - Jake's is the only option.

absolutely my favorite burger joint of all time. I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE DREAMS ABOUT THIS PLACE. i live far far away in brooklyn now, but i would consider a drive for some of these delicious treats. they're greasy, they're smothered in condiments, and there is almost no health value whatsoever. but who cares! jake's is great!

Best burger around in Newark. They have a great root beer float too. Plus, they started delivery!

Probably the best "fresh burger" place I've ever been. A little bit pricey considering the size of the burgers, but it's money well spent. The burgers are delicious and can be made however you want them. The shakes are great. And the fries are freshly cut and taste awesome. I once got ill after one time I ate at the Elkton location. Nobody else I was with got sick, and it might have been something else I ate. I've never had any issues at the Newark location, and have eaten there countless times since. When I meet new students at UD, I always recommend Jakes.

When I go off the wagon and want something full of fat, calories, and red meat I head to Jakes. Get a burger, shake, and fries - you can't go wrong with that. I think they've recently changed the buns and it's an improvement.

I have to say that I have loved Jakes for years, but the rude service given to my family today was unforgivable. Apparently you aren't supposed to show up 30 minutes before close and want to eat. If I had known, I would have driven past and avoided disturbing them. This would have been a 1 star if the burger hadn't neen so good.

It is kind of fun, very quirky sort of old fashioned place. Unfortunately, the burgers are sort of like White Castle. Too bad.

This place isn't much to look at... and walking in you'll probably feel a bit disappointed... that is until you take your first bite and everything around you just disappears. Yes, the burgers are that good. I love stopping by here when I'm craving a good burger because I know that the food here will always satisfy. The milkshakes here are also worth noting, and I don't even like milkshakes.

Ah, AMAZING is the only word. Burgers and shakes are incredible! My dad used to bring me to this place on the weekends when I was in high school after it first opened. Now, when I go back home, I hit it whenever possible. The only real issue is the French Fries, which you could easily make at home.... but the Burgers and the "Black and White" shake more than make up for it! Definitely worth a try at the very least!

Jake's is like a Five Guys. Small little burger shack that serves up fries, shakes etc. In the middle of no where basically

Jakes hamburgers is a great place to go for a moderately priced burger with a lot of flavor! The burgers are great, the fries are good and the soda machines are always clean and the soda is never flat. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Jakes is decent. The burgers are pretty tasty and the shakes are absolutely done right. I always go for the black and white malt milkshake and it never disappoints. The state of the place and the staff are my only issues. Makes feels like it needs a really good scrub and the staff can seem a bit unfriendly and unwelcoming. The last time I was here I walked in for a burger and a shake right around two in the afternoon. The guy that was at the register was very awkward and his loud, phony greeting was no better. I ordered a burger with the usual toppings and to my horror this kid takes my money, puts it in the register, closes the register, and then proceeds to grab a ball of meat (my burger) with his filthy hands which he then throws on the flat top grill. Yuuuccckkkthhhh! I must have been giving him a look like WTF!? which made him stop and look down at the pile of raw contaminated beef and say "don't worry man, the heat will kill all that bacteria." Shock and awe.... The worst part about this bumbling fool was that I think he was the manager on duty. The poor grill guy seemed embarrassed along with the fry and milkshake guy. And yes, I ate the burger. Well the heat killed the bacteria! I do have to say that all the other times I went the burgers were very good. The only thing is that I feel it could be a little cleaner. In a perfect world I guess every chef/cool would treat people's food like it was their own.

Fresh burgers with fries and a milkshake is always good. This place is best in the spring or early summer when you can sit outside because indoor seating is limited. I really appreciate the management making good on a not so stellar customer service experience. You can always tell a good owner who knows the value of his customers.

I think Jake's Hamburgers is a pretty good place to pick up burgers and fries. The burgers are fresh and taste good, and reasonably priced. One thing I didn't like is that a lot of the toppings cost extra...only the basic toppings like lettuce, ketchup, onion, etc. are free. You do get a lot of food for what you pay. The fries are good, but pretty standard. I do like that you can order online -- I did, and my order was ready when I arrived. Overall, I would recommend Jake's. You might have noticed that I haven't rated it as highly as other reviewers. Like I said, the food was good, but not spectacular. The quality just wasn't high enough to warrant more stars.
