This is the closest i could get to a Philly cheesesteak sandwich during my recent excursion to the east coast. I do say Capriotti's has everything you could want in a sandwich shop. If i was in town any longer i would have ordered the "BOBBY" which was a sub with turkey, stuffing, cranberry and straight up goodness.

All around great subs and cheesesteaks. They're specialties are what you need to try when you go there. My personal favorite is the Capastrami, since I'm not a big fan of cranberries which are in many of their signature subs (they're still tasty even with the cranberries). If you are looking for a plain turkey or italian sub you might be able to go somewhere cheaper, like Wawa and be fairly satisfied. However, if you like fresh, high quality ingredients, Capriotti's is the place to go. Another reviewer mentioned Primo's which is also very good, but not my favorite since they use harder/crustier rolls.

Great Sub. Just moved to Newark. Read the reviews and went to grab lunch here. Had the "Bobbie". It was like Thanksgiving in a sandwich. I'll check the other sandwiches next time i go. The turkey isn't sliced it was like it was broken from a turkey. I'd recommend it.

best subshop ever ever ever. there is no question about it. people crave it, they come from different states for it. they have veggie options too! i miss them and love them. it's all about the roll and the care taken to build the sub!

One word, Bobbie! This sub shop deserves 5 stars just for this ingenious sandwich. I consider all their other subs commonplace and some what pricey but the Bobbie is one class above the others and worth the money. It's the only sub I can't buy elsewhere or replicate in my kitchen without some time and effort. This is because they use shredded roasted turkey, stuffing, and whole cranberry sauce to create a thanks giving feast in a sub. I think the price is somewhere around $14 for a whole 18" sub which is pretty pricey but if you're craving turkey dinner, it's so worth it. I also like how Capriotti's offer condiments on the side to go with your sandwich. I can't recommend anything else in particular over other sub shops but the Bobbie is a must try!

I don't usually write a review a few minutes after I finish the meal at the place... but this was an exception. This is one of the original Capriotti locations (third, I believe)... and this little unassuming location really delivers the goods. The guys working there are awesome, and know their stuff. They tried to talk me into a Steak sammy, and I wanted one so bad, but had to stick with turkey because I had meetings later. This turkey sandwich (see posted pic) was one of the best I've ever had. From the real oven roasted hand pulled turkey, to the perfect roll and hot pepper/giardinera mix... I was in heaven. Oil and vinegar, salt/peper and oregano just made it perfect. We had one of these in San Diego for about two years, but it was NOTHING like the O.G. shops in Delaware. Good stuff guys, can't wait to come back for the steak!

The Capastrami was a life-changing sandwich for me. Definitely in the top three sandwich experiences of my life so far, along with banh mi at number one, and Black Sheep battleships. I don't normally get excited about sandwiches, but the reviews for Capriotti's made me curious to give it a try. I'm really glad I went! I was only in the area for a few weeks, but I made it out here three times. The first time I went, I got the Capastrami, and it was mind-blowingly good. The salty, warm pastrami was perfectly contrasted by the creamy, crunchy slaw. It was satisfying and delicious, and I ate the entire sandwich, even though I should have stopped. Too bad I have no self-control. They also sell a regional brand of potato chips there, and I got the Texas Pete flavored chips. They weren't that great with the sandwich because the flavor of the sandwich was so strong, but when I tried them later on that evening, they were amazing! The next time I went I ordered the Bobbie, but I wasn't as impressed. It seemed like the ratio of sandwich fillings was off, and it tasted too sweet from the cranberry sauce. Usually sweetness isn't off-putting for me, but I didn't enjoy this sandwich. What made it worse is knowing that I could have been eating some delicious pastrami instead!

I can't give 5 stars because there is no restroom and it's take-out only (all locations). The Italian sub is the best tasting that i have found since my childhood favorite sandwich shop in south Florida closed in the early 2000's. Capicola, peppered ham, provolone, lettuce, tomato, mayo, and sub dressing. Simple as that. The other favorites are the Capstrami, The Bobbi, and a traditional cheese steak. Try them all and if you're eating alone a small 9" will do.

One word: Bobbie. Nothing more needs to be said. By far the best sandwich you will ever taste

Good classic Delaware subs w balance of meat cheese and fixings; I like the Italian w sweet and hot peppers; family loves turkey w cranberry sauce ; memories of the 50's for me.

I've come here many a time with my folks for subs. Our favorites are the turkey sub and, of course, the bobbie. The turkey sub is pretty straightforward, consisting of shredded turkey, provolone cheese, LTO, oil/mayo, and spices on a roll. The bobbie is like Thanksgiving on a bun, consisting of shredded turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce with mayo. The bobbie is served cold, and it is a bit heavy on the stuffing and mayo, but you can probably ask for less if you'd prefer. Additional condiments such as peppers can be added to subs for no extra charge. We've generally been satisfied with the quality of the subs we've ordered from here, as well as other Capriotti's locations around town. They're fresh, and are always made right and contain a generous quantity of meat. Also, they're very filling! Since I grew up with Capriotti's, I thumb my nose at Subway (yuck!) and its ilk. I'm deducting a star because the stuffing and the cranberry sauce aren't made in house, and the stuffing can be kind of soggy and flavorless at times. However, the flavor of the turkey and the cranberries make up for it. If you're from out of town, stop by and experience a unique DE culinary treat!

All you need to know is Bobbie No not Bobby Flay or Bobby Knight, just Bobbie Shredded real turkey stuffing and cranberry sauce don't hold the mayo Eat it and shut up

It seems like they have cut back on the meat they put on a sub. I would rate it 1.5 if there was an option. The bread is really good, their salads are decent, but you don't go there for the salad, you go for the hoagie!! Stick to the cheesesteaks or the bobby. The others seem like a lot of filler and its still not thick at all. Its very convenient to my office, which makes it a lot easier to justify going so often!!

  • Morgan G.

They put a lot of meat on their subs which I don't like but isn't that the point? This place is downright delicious, they're fast, and they're actually inexpensive for how much you get. A small is like 12" inches.

I absolutely love their chicken cheese steaks. For awhile, I was going through a Capriotti's chicken cheese steak phase, it is that good! Good bread, good meat, plenty of toppings. Everyone seems to go crazy over their subs, but I haven't had anything else, though I'd really like to. Prices seem pretty reasonable, especially for what you get.

  • JasonJennifer S.

This place is so overrated. I drove off the highway for this??? Lets start with the basics. They don't make their pastrami from scratch- Strike One. Nothing is worse than highlighting your great food that someone else has made. (Ok you make your own Turkey-not to hard) As for their pastrami they take some brand of processed meat and throw it on the grill to warm it up. It is extremely salty and lacks the level of quality that the previous high reviews would imply. They use stovetop brand stuffing not real homemade-Strike Two. Their selection of drinks are all Coca-cola products or sugary crap. Why cant people sell unsweetened tea! - Strike Three. This place must be popular because it is cheaper and more convenient than making the same thing at home. People who give this 5 stars must be getting paid or have no taste buds. PS The bread was good, but they don't make it themselves so it doesn't count.

This is a very good Caporiattis location. MUCH better than the Hockessin location in Lantana Square

I've stopped at this location a few times now. Subs are good because of Capriottis name, but employees are consistently unhappy. Stopped on a Sunday to pick-up sandwiches and seemed unorganized and no one wanted to take my order. This time, Bobbie tasted like ingredients were old/frozen. Will try Newark location next time.

Great local deli! Huge, fresh, flavorful sandwiches, great prices, friendly service. I've been there a half dozen times, and despite my best intentions, I never stray from the capistrami. It's glorious. I've heard good things about the turkey/stuffing/cranberry sandwich, and look forward to trying that next (who am I kidding, I'll probably get the capistrami again...). I think the regular size is a perfect lunch for two people. It always seems like people phone in their orders too. Whenever I show up, I'm the only one waiting, and yet a dozen people will come in and pick up sandwiches.

At first I was skeptical when I heard the Bobbie was a mixture of turkey, mayo, stuffing, and cranberry sauce. Mind you, I'm not a big fan of the sweet mix with savory. When I later unwrapped the sandwich, the looks didn't win me over either. The fact that it was a cold sandwich also threw me for a loop. At that point I was slapping myself for not listening to Sarah S.'s advice about getting a Capastrami or the Cheese Steak (the shop had a dozen of accolades plastered on their wall clamoring about both subs). I mowed down the first half pretty quickly and saved the rest for the bus ride back to the city. I was unimpressed by the sub until I got on the bus for my second half. Maybe my hunger got the best of me, but for some odd reason the Bobbie tasted better than I remembered. Perhaps the ingredients and the hoagie got more time to cozy up to each other in my backpack. Boy, have I underestimated the power of Bobbie. Each bite was better than than the last. As I move from right to left, I got a bite of the salty turkey with the creamy mayo. And then the sweetness of that cranberry with stuffing rounds off the second bite (third if you have a small mouth). Before I knew it, the magical sandwich was gone leaving traces of turkey crumbs and cranberry sauce, which I took the liberty to lick off the paper wrap (don't you judge me!), and I was left craving for more or wished I ordered an 18". In this case, less is always less. If management or anyone working there sees this, please add pumpkin mash into the sub. Make a pumpkin bread, pumpkin aoli...just try to tie the last element of thanksgiving into the sub and make this a 5 star sub.

Great sammiches!! I went with a colleague and we split two different sandwiches: The Bobbie which was Turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and mayo. and the Capastrami which was Hot pastrami, Swiss cheese, Russian Dressing, and cole slaw. I had very high expectations for The Bobbie, which was good. . . the Capastrami was the clear winner. I will be back and will certainly get the Capastrami.

This is what we call a sub place! I tried many other ones in Delaware and Capriotti's beat them all. I don't know what it is about it, it's just huge but yummy! I usually order a Cheese sub. We can always tell they're not so used to it. ("we" are vegetarian)....the only issue is that they often mess it up. Even though we clearly say a "CHEESE sub" over the phone and not a "Cheese Steak". Actually our greatest fear is to open our more than wanted sub to have a bite and discover a juicy piece of meat... Sorry some of you guys might feel it's the best thing ever but for vegetarians it just ..isn't. Except this little inconvenience that happened quite few times to us, we are still coming back. Their cheese is great, even the Swiss cheese is not that hard or tasteless, it all melts in your mouth. Their seasoning is awesome and the tomatoes are just amazing, even off season they have good veggies.

Can't say enough good things about this shop. The lady loves the bobbi. I always get the large(yes I know how big it is) cheesesteak. Don't be afraid to ask for extras.

!!!!!! I'm dreaming of a capastrami, as I type this. Gosh...I grew up in Delaware. The land of strip malls, tax free shopping, Joe Biden and it's best feature Capriotti's. All my siblings have abandoned the state leaving my parents there alone. And I'm ever attempting to convince them to leave as well. Anywho...even tho I rarely ever make it home for longer than 36 hours, I almost ALWAYS make a mandatory stop by Carpriotti's. When I was younger the Capicola was my all time fav. My Mom to this day still always order's the Bobbi...thanksgiving on a sub. I'm stuck on the Capastrami. It's my heart, and I can never cheat on it. Though I have sampled just about every sub on the menu, and there hasn't been one that I haven't liked. High schools days wouldn't have been the same, because when ever my debate team had a celebration there was always Capriotti's in the house. A few fond memories from growing up in the 302. I'll be headed to DE on Wednesday (for less then 36 hours) enroute to my sister's wedding and I definitely have Capriotti's on the stop by list. ahhh bliss in suburbia!

I had a cheese steak and it was good. I been in town just looking for places to grub on and found this place, they have really good subs. The bread is crispy yet fluffy and the meat was shredded with hot peppers cooked into the meat. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

A-Mazing subs. Chicken cheesesteak: go order it this second.

BEST SANDWICHES EVER! Seriously whether you make your own or go with one of theirs it's the best. Delicious, well-priced, and staff is friendly. They are all around DE so check them out...seriously do it now!

I don't have anything to add to the other reviews other than just get the Bobbie and be happy.

Just got a cheese steak from here and it tasted it like roast beef gravy and American cheese on a roll it was horrible. They chop the steak in cubes not slice it and they cube the onions. They also messed up my brothers and put lettuce on it. When he asked for no lettuce and I asked for provolone cheese. Will never go back here would rather spend some more money and go to casapulas much. Better quality.

Nostalgia brought me here while I was in town for a reunion. I got my favorite: mushroom cheesesteak. My old man got the Bobby. The bobby was lovely, as usual. I call it "Thanksgiving on a roll". My steak sandwich? I was a bit disappointed. It was dry. I'm almost ashamed to say it, but I found a better steak here in FL. Brianto's!!!

This is the best sandwich place in Newark. Also check out close-second Primo's for a heartier bread style.

Picked up some sandwiches here the other night. I LOVE Cap's homemade turkey subs! However on this particular evening (which was a Fri night) I found my roll to be disappointingly stale. The cheese steak roll was fine and the cheese steak was good but I have never had a stale roll from Cap's before. It was all falling apart and the middle split at the base. I worked in a sub shop for years and this roll seemed to be frozen and then thawed out again. It was the 20 inch roll so maybe they don't sell as many? Or maybe it was due to they were closing in 10 minutes? I am not sure but I will probably go to the one on Kirkwood Hghwy from now on even if it's a little further away. And staff wasnt very friendly either. But I won't stop getting the turkey sub! This was my first bad experience. Hopefully the last.

I'm from out of town decided to give it a try after seeing the reviews on yelp, and thought it was real good, I'd stop in if you are in the area.

  • John B.

I hate to be the lone dissenter, but Capriotti's isn't particularly impressive. The Bobbie is overladen with mayonnaise and stuffing. The tart cranberry sauce is good, and the turkey is high quality, but you'd be loath to tell. If you don't mind potentially killing 25 minutes, the sandwiches at Primo's are better. Capriotti's does move faster, and the servers don't operate in the same stupor as they do at Primo's, but this isn't enough. When the signature product is barely edible despite good ingredients, it doesn't encourage follow-up visits.

Best Sub Shop in Delaware. I lived in Delaware for 6 years and I frequented this place more than I care to admit. The cheesesteaks are amazing and the the Subs are perfection. The Bobbie is like thanksgiving dinner any time of year!

  • Christie K.

YAY! Their Bobble sandwich is delicious~ I love Thanksgiving and a sandwich that embodies the holiday where you eat until you hate yourself is just DELIGHTFUL. I wish the sandwich itself was a little hotter, but the stuffing, turkey, and cranberry sauce is a hit combo~ The small is HUGE and I usually eat one half for lunch and one half for dinner :)

  • Ron Z.

Just had a Capastrimi sandwich from here....WOW! One of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten....needed to grab something quick and have had other sandwhiches that they sell, but never tried this one....hesitant as I always get the Bobbie (it's OK, but filling). Nothing much to say about anything else...thought it was a little pricey, but enjoyed it.

  • Paul S.

Many trips back home, ALWAYS hit Capriotti"s. Last time was a little disappointing. The new shop on Kirkwood Hwy by Limestone road was disorganized. Bad day? Hard to say. They did pack them for the trip home, and we did enjoy them. Now that they are a corporation and many shops, I will bet the quality drops. Hate to say that, but maybe the can prove me wrong.

  • Catalina D.

Two words: The Bobbie. This is not to discount the other mouthwatering sandwiches Capirotti's offers, but dear God, if there is anything about Delaware that I miss (and believe me, that is a tiny list), I miss the Bobbie. No doubt, I will definitely be heading to Capriotti's next time I'm in Las Vegas.

    (5)
  • Michael S.

Dare I say the best sandwiches in the world? I dare. Capriottis is so good. Especially if you're a vegetarian, like myself. The veggie turkey and veggie cheeseburger are both spectacular. Love this place so much. Only wish they would come to DC.

  • Missy E.

I would kill for a homemade turkey with extra provolone and crushed hot peppers right now! Mmmmm! I second Dave M. - don't waste your time with the one in San Diego. It is not even close.

Had the cheese steak here, could have used a little more cheese but a good sandwich nonetheless. Staff is friendly, place is clean.

Wow, I love this place! I'm giving my first five-star restaurant review, and it couldn't be for a better place. I've had Capriotti's on multiple occasions and sampled just about every sandwich there. And the prices and service are pretty good too. My menu favorites are the cheesesteak, Italian sub, and of course, the Bobbie. The meat and bread are very fresh, and there are a variety of toppings and condiments. Also, the staff here is very accommodating to large orders if you phone them in ahead of time. I get Capriotti's often for group lunches at work, and I haven't had any problems with food being ready on time or anything. Do you need any more encouragement? If you live in Newark, just passing through, or have any plans to be in the area, definitely go to Capriotti's!

    (5)
  • James S.

Hands down best sub shop I've ever been to. The turkey and cheesesteak are as good of subs as you'll ever have. Also try the Bobbie!

    (5)
  • Monica S.

Capriotti's makes the best damn sandwiches anywhere ever. My favorite is the Italian. No wait, the Bobbie. No, the eggplant parmesan. OK... well they're all my favorites. A few years ago I moved to Seattle and of all the eateries in Delaware, I miss Capriotti's the most. This is regional food at it's finest. Delaware is so lucky to have it so good!

    (5)
  • Kathy O.

OMG, they have the best steaks and subs. The bobbi is delicious, too! My sister is a vegetarian and gets the meatless subs or a cheese/veggie sub and loves them!

    (5)
  • Dave M.

I live in San Diego now, and was ecstatic when i found out that Capriottis had opened a branch of their shop in there. A little over a year later they closed for lack of business. Gah! These people wouldn't know a good sub if it came and smacked them in the head. I still make it back to Newark a couple times a year to visit family, and i always make a point of stopping in to this Capriottis. God bless the Capriotti family!

Subs that can't be beat! A Delaware tradition.

  • Andy G.

This joint is amazing!!! The best sandwiches around-hands down no argument, if it is the Bobbie (turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce), the Cappistrami, or the Cheese Steak (my personal favorite) you can't go wrong! I only wish they were in the midwest!
