Every once in a long while you'll find a restaurant so authentic you'd swear it's a secret embassy - a sovereign part of a nation that somehow magically exists in another country. Los Compadres is one of those; a bit of D.F. translocated lovingly to the most unlikely of Delaware communities. This is not Tex-Mex. It is not chain Mexican food robbed of all its glory for the diluted palate of the average ranch-dressing-loving United States citizen. This is comida Mexicana. Alimentos verdad. You'll not be fed wheat tortillas here and told they're "authentic". They have Mexican Coca-Cola - no corn syrup or sodium benzoate. My mate and I went there for lunch and I went back for seconds. It's that good. TL;dr: this is the purest Mexican restaurant I've encountered in the States. Fast, friendly, family service and fresh, delicious taste. Make a point of trying them out.

My family and i stopped in after driving for a couple of hours. I read the Yelp reviews and figured it was worth a try. The waiter was very nice but, like another review said, not smothering. I liked that we could see the food being made fresh, and that it came out in a timely manner. My veggie fajitas were very good, as was my dad's chicken quesadilla and my mom's lunch special. The only complaint I have is that the refried beans were not very hot, although they had an interesting (good) flavor. It's a shame that this place isn't more crowded because I certainly left with a happy tummy!

This place is closed and now an Applebee's, obviously was not as good as the few reviews thought it was

Love this place. Have eaten here 3 or 4 times and been super happy each time. The food is fresh, hand made authentic Mexican food. The kind you find in San Diego. The ambiance is nothing to write home about but their tamales are. ( they do have some awesome Aztec paintings on the walls. This is not a place that you order by number and they do not give you a ridiculous amount of watery beans and rice, if you want that go to one of the la toltecha's . I am saying this is the best Mexican food in DE. Great food and a good price

This is authentic mex food prepared by the owners who treat you like family. Consistently good and the salsa is made daily. Don't forget to ask for the special of the day. Tell them Rhino sent you.

Stopped in for dinner on a Tuesday... We were the only ones but were undeterred. Brenda was helpful in our selections and we even surprised her when the 'gringos'ordered classic Mexican tacos with tongue and cheek meat. We'll be back...

This place was incredible. Very tasty, authentic Mexican food, and extremely inexpensive. We went and no one was there, but we were not deterred. The food is all cooked and prepared right there...and the sour cream is homemade. Promise. The desserts are.also incredible. go. You won't regret it.

We're from Los Angeles, where really good tacos more or less do grow on trees. But it's hard to find the real thing back here. We often choose away from Mexican because it's usually disappointing. But one afternoon while we were waiting out an epic rainstorm that all but cancelled my son's baseball tournament, we got hungry and stopped at Los Compadres for a snack. Oh my gosh: It was a feast. Real tacos with excellent carnitas, made the right way (he asked us if we wanted American or Mexican ingredients) AND huaraches -- something you rarely see on the East Coast. Excellent food, excellent and friendly service, lovely owner-operators. We give this our collective 8-thumbs-up recommendation.

Stopped by this restaurant on a drive from Delaware to NY. This place is in the Giant shopping center right off of the highway so is easy to get to for travelers. The food was fantastic, and well-priced. The service was also excellent. There are a ton of vegetarian options, and smaller lunch priced dishes. It was fantastic, and I definitely want to stop again when I make the trip down to DE.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
