Since I live so close to this diner I was super excited to have a local restaurant to eat when we don't want to travel far but have someone cook for us :) The atmosphere is quaint and small which gives you a personal feel when you walk in. The food (breakfast lunch and dinner) is below the quality I would have expected it to be. Wait staff appear friendly but slightly slow on the drink refills. The prices of the meals are a little high in price compared to the lackluster plating and food that comes out which was a big shocker to me. One would expect to see a small town diner to have cheap meals but extremely good food -- in this case it's opposite. I don't mind going for breakfast as their food is tasty. Dinner and Lunch are sub-par. As others have stated, there seems to be a following of seniors to the place.

ALL I HAVE TO SAY IS EWWWWWWWW. So many good reviews i just went for breakfast today and well u should just read the first line again. I ordered pig in a blanket which is pancakes wrapped around sausage was ok but the pancakes were flaky mushy and salty all in one. Also long side of the pig in a blanket there was bacon and eggs. The bacon was rubbery and the opposite of crispy and the eggs were rubbery also. ALL IN ALL IT WAS A TERRIBLE MAL AND I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE. IT WOULD BE A ONE STAR BUT IM SAVING THAT RATING FOR FOOD POISONING.

This is one of those down-home restaurants in small towns that can be a treasure if they are good. Magnolia Restaurant changed hands at least one time I know of, and the current owner is doing a great job! The breakfast is plentiful, hot and well made. I had an omelet and some homefries. Very good! It's a cute place, and I'm really wanting to try the Mahattan Chowder next visit, though for some of my family, saying Manhattan Chowder is "chowdah" is "fightin' words" So I feel a bit disloyal, but when made well--it's a great soup.

Went for breakfast one morning since it's so close to home. Never again. Food was terrible. I don't know how people eat here.

I refuse to eat here. It's never been that great but a few months ago we went in and the entire place smelled like cat pee. It ruined my appetite. The food was only so so as was the service.

I have only ate breakfast here with the whole family and we all loved it....twice! It is a nice cozy family dinner with a friendly atmosphere. Also they accommodate you if you come in for lunch and have a late breakfast.

The Magnolia is apparently the only place to eat when visiting Magnolia, DE, but that isn't so bad. I echo the comments of Alex Z that the food here is very good. Granted, I have only eaten here for breakfast so I've never tried any of their offerings other than the breakfast fare, but in that department I've had everything from your typical swiss cheese omelet to things a little more odd for a New Jersey boy like me such as scrapple. My most recent experience at the Magnolia consisted of the crab meat omelet special and it was absolutely loaded with meat. It was delicious. I know from looking at the Magnolia's menu that they have your regular full diner offerings. At some point in time I am going to have to try one of their post-breakfast offerings. Alex Z is raving about their Manhattan Clam Chowder in his review, so I guess I will have to give that a shot. I guess the gist of this review is that if you happen to be driving near Magnolia and need to stop and get something to eat, do not hesitate to check this place out. You'll learn what the locals already know that people who live in the middle of this little suburb of Dover, DE do know how to cook.

The food was good and the service was friendly. Clam chowder was thick and full of clams. Oyster sandwich was good. Cole slaw was freshly made and tasty. Desserts looked good. Service was quick and prices reasonable. Good place to stop for lunch.

Phone number is 335-3347. Excellent food anytime of day. Staff is friendly and atmosphere is a down home family restaurant. Quality and quanity of food is worth the price.

We dined at Magnolias on July 27, 2013t. The broiled seafood plate was fair except for the cod fish on the plate. It was awful and tasted like ammonia. We notified the friendly waiter. He said the manager would stop by and he never did. We were charged for this but did not want it for free but just a courtesy from the manager who failed to take care of the customer and knew the fish was awful to begin with that is why he did not see us. I will not dine there again so beware and do not order fish at this restaurant. And do not expect to see the manager for any complaints. They avoid you like the plague. And this was my birthday dinner so this was not a good dinner at all.

This is a cute little restaurant in the heart of the cute little town of Magnolia, Delaware. In rural southern Delaware, restaurants (that are still open) can be notoriously difficult to come by, so the fact that this place is open and serves food already puts it up into a highly desireable category, in my book. However, the food here is actually pretty good. And, to my astonishment, this restaurant served the BEST MANHATTAN CLAM CHOWDER I have ever eaten in my life. And I consider myself somewhat a connoisseur of Manhattan clam chowder--this was just perfect, with big, fresh clams, and quite spicey. The rest of the food was pretty good too, although not in the same category as the clam chowder. The prices are unbeatable--cup of soup plus a sandwich with two fried soft-shelled crabs, for under $8? Pretty hard to believe. And pretty yummy. The service was very good too. The only things I could recommend them to improve upon were the cole slaw and fries. The cole slaw was fresh, but it was sweet and creamy whereas I prefer mine light (but I guess that's just a matter of taste), and the fries were a bit greasy. And the parking lot can be a bit tight to navigate in when it is full. But those are comparatively minor complaints. I'd certainly come back here.

I've been here twice and I live not far away. This place definitely has a hometown feel to it. A favorite of the locals and many senior citizens alike, their menu has many traditional favorites. The staff seemed friendly enough and most everyone that goes there knows each other. I found the food to be average for a diner-like restaurant but their prices seemed to be a bit high for the food quality. Overall I'd say it's not a bad place to go after church or if you want a quick bite to eat before taking your child out for some early morning fishing.

As locals that eat breakfast here on average 3-4 times a month, needless to say its a favorite of ours. The food at breakfast is nothing extraordinary, but the atmosphere and down home friendliness of the staff is second to none. For a good home cooked breakfast, served by really nice and very attentive waitstaff, all at a very reasonable price, you simply can't beat the Magnolia Restaurant. We've only had lunch there once and it was fine, but again - nothing special. We've never had dinner there, but they've been advertising a 12 oz. prime rib special for year at $13.99. One note - the top of this review says it isn't wheelchair accessible. That's wrong. There is a ramp for wheel chairs at the State St. entrance.

Standard small town restaurant. Great breakfast options with a friendly staff. I don't eat eggs, but those that were with me said they were cooked perfectly to order. As a special they had a Chesapeake omelette that looked great. It almost made me try an omelette. I was told it was FULL of lump crabmeat! I had pancakes which were very good. The menu for other than breakfast looked good and was standard "diner" fare. I give it 4 stars only because the menu wasn't really inspiring with unique offerings. It gets 5 for the quality and the small town feel. It's definitely a go to place for a good "down home" meal.
