Woodside Farm Creamery

Reviews:
Best. Ice cream. Ever. I don't make it up to the farm very often, but thank goodness they sell Woodside Farm ice cream at the farmers market right up the road. Highly recommend the farm experience, though - in fact, if you make it there on National Ice Cream Day, you even get to take a tour of the facilities. And it's neat to see those pretty Jersey cows grazing.
Best ice cream in the area! My favorite is the Chocolate Coconut Almond. Definitely plan to enjoy your ice cream at one of the picnic tables and say hello to the resident cows.
The place is the Field of Dreams of ice cream. As I sat on a bench in the field outside the shop all I could think of was James Earl Jones' speech: Ray, people will come Ray. They'll come to Delaware for reasons they can't even fathom. They'll turn up in the driveway not knowing for sure why they're doing it. They'll arrive at the register as innocent as children, longing for the past. Of course, we won't mind if you look around, you'll say. It's only a few bucks per cone. They'll pass over the money without even thinking about it: for it is money they have and ice cream they lack. And they'll walk out to the benches; sit in shirtsleeves on a perfect afternoon. They'll find they have reserved seats somewhere along one of the fences, where they sat when they were children and cheered their heroes. And they'll eat their ice cream and it'll be as if they dipped themselves in magic waters. The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces. People will come Ray. The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been ice cream. America has rolled by like an army of steamrollers. It has been erased like a blackboard, rebuilt and erased again. But ice cream has marked the time. This farm, this dessert: it's a part of our past, Ray. It reminds of us of all that once was good and it could be again. Oh... people will come Ray. People will most definitely come. That's what I think of their ice cream.

Lettie’s Kitchen

Reviews:
Excellent Maryland crap soup. Full of large chunks of vegetables. Their regular chicken and dumpling soup is very good also. I wish they had a better selection of main meals.
Good down to earth no frills home cooked food. Chicken is great(come prepared to wait for your order to be cooked, it can take some time but is worth it) and soups are also. Desserts are the best. Salads are good but disappointingly small. And counter help is hit or miss, I have left on occasion wondering if I did something to piss them off or if they are just always miserable.
Lettie's is a family-owned restaurant that serves homemade comfort food at reasonable prices, in a quaint setting. The broasted chicken is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Moist, juicy and bursting with flavor on the inside...crispy, salty goodness on the outside. It's like nothing I've ever had before. I'd even say it was the best chicken I've ever had. They also sell really, REALLY good homemade (of course) sides, like marinated vegetables, potato salad, macaroni salad, etc. You can take it to go, sit in their cozy indoor dining area, or if it's nice out, sit on the spacious wraparound porch. I am SO glad I discovered Lettie's. I will be coming back again and again.

Okura Japanese Cuisine Restaurant

Reviews:
Okura is the best sushi restaurant this side of Kyoto. Now, I hope you realize that's based on 0% factual evidence and 100% biased personal opinion, but if you're looking for a great all-around sushi experience, this is your place. They serve high quality fish, interesting and unique (but not weird) roll combinations, and you can't beat the prices. Kailon, the owner + sushi chef, is super friendly. Expect to strike up a convo if you sit at the sushi bar. I highly recommend the Hamachio carpaccio appetizer (thinly sliced yellowtail sitting in a bath of slightly spicy chili oil, with scallions, eel sauce and crunchy little roe on top), and the W.W. Roll. Don't ask me what's in this 2nd one, but it's tempura fried, covered in crab strips, and tastes like sushi heaven. The spicy tuna with cucumber wrap (instead of rice) is also worth a try -- the texture/temperature contrast is addictive. I've been to the fancy shmancy joints in NYC and Philly, and will continue to go for special occasions or a change of pace, but when my gut is aching for some broiled eel or tempura'd shrimp, Okura's where you'll find me.
I was out of town on business and had the 'Best Sushi' in a long time and the staff was super friendly. Sushi Chef/Owner was very a tentative and very Welcoming. Love and definitely recommend the Sake Sample!
Best sushi I have ever experienced. Better than anyplace in D.C., Denver, or anywhere I have been in 20 years. You will not be disappointed. I finally tried Uni because an 11 year old at the sushi bar told me it was the freshest that she had ever tasted. My wife and I have yet to taste a roll that is less than exceptional, and we have tried at least 50% of the rolls available. And it is a long list!!

Just tried Maria's for the first time. It's an unassuming little place nestled between a liquor store and a bar in a strip mall. Nothing about the exterior would suggest that this place is anything special. But the food...my god...so good. I had the chicken parm sub - delicious toasted roll, tender chicken and the perfect amount of sauce and cheese - hit the spot. My wife had the penne alla vodka and it was impressive as well. We will definitely be back.
So delicious! They have amazing Italian food comparable to expensive restaurants in Philly and NYC. The bruschetta is the best I've had in my life.
I've gone to this place a handful of times. The first couple of times the food was great (Vodka alla Penne....yum!) but my last experience wasn't that great. I went there with 2 people and the place was empty. The young girl waitress was distracted by one of the male employees the entire time we were there. One of the people I was with asked her what the soup of the day was, she said she would check and never came back because she was talking to that male employee. At the end of our meal we wanted to order dessert and I actually had to get up to hunt our waitress down. Finally the guy because the counter had to go in the back to get her. The service was bad. Also, I ordered a chicken sandwich with broccoli rabe. The rabe was dripping with oil that saturated the entire sandwich to the point, I had to stop eating the 2nd half because it was just mushy and tasted nothing but oil. I don't know if I just went on an off day but as I said, they were far from busy to be that bad.

The Back Burner

Reviews:
I visited the Back Burner for the first time this week. I love the rustic, country atmosphere of the dining area! For my appetizer I ordered crab chowder, and for my entree the staff was extremely accommodating in allowing me to choose shrimp with the sides that normally accompany the salmon. Everything was delicious, especially the kale and pumpkin risotto (my new favorite combination!). In addition, the service was fantastic and we felt very welcome. I would love to make it back and try a few other things on the menu that caught my eye!
Visited with Nicole B because the tavern menu is 1/2 price from 3-6pm on Saturday. The bartender was not ready and busy, but greeted us and told us she would be right with us. We were fine with that, we just don't like to be ignored. The 1/2 price tavern menu does not include drinks which were full price. $10 for Back Burner Lemonade which is limoncello and your choice of citron vodka, firefly, strawberry, or raspberry vodka. These were fantastic! I had strawberry and raspberry, and Nicole B had strawberry and firefly. We shared 6 appetizers, we should have stopped at 4. We ordered Shrimp Lejon, Crab Stuffed Mushrooms, Pork Belly and Duck Egg, Scallop Quinoa Salad, Garlic Clams, and Pretzels with Chipotle Cheese. We had to take some of it home. The shrimp were fantastic, large and wrapped in bacon. The stuffed mushrooms were delicious. Nicole ate the clams and said they were good, and I ate the scallops which were ok, but too small. I can't believe I ate the pork belly, that is not my thing at all. I don't think I could eat it again but it was pretty tasty. The chipotle cheese was spicy and smoky, but we could not eat the pretzels because we were too full. We will definitely be back to try a few other items. We spent $40 on drinks but all that food only came to $30. We split the total so $35 each for all of that was definitely a huge bang for the buck!
Outstanding meal. We decided to share a bunch of the lite plates, which we really enjoyed. So much that we ordered a second pork belly! The beet salad was the only dish we would call...lackluster. all else was stellar.

A chill spot to get together with friends or family and hangout get a bite to eat, coffee, ice cream. Prices are cheap, food is mediocre. The atmosphere is very nice, and cool.
I can't believe it took me so long to discover this place - thankfully on Saturday a co-worker suggested it for lunch . We split a BLT and the black and blue fries - 20/20 hindsight we should not have shared - too yummy to split . Everyone was so friendly when I went in to pick up our rather large order (for about 12 people) one of the guys who works there even carried it all out to my car for my while I looked around . Lots of snacks to purchase - I was very tempted . I will be back ... maybe even today !
Cute place for a quick breakfast or deli lunch! Fine selection of pastries and really cute coffee shop feel. We visited for a lazy dinner. My strawberries and cream milkshake was real, rich, thick, and creamy. The deli sides were great---Asian flank steak, caprese salad. She enjoyed her Italian sub. Overall, a comfy, quick, tasty meal. Also, all of the profits from the business are put toward religious missions.

Pizza was excellent, If you want great pizza in Hockessin this is the spot. Easy to get to, friendly staff. Can get a quick haircut next door while you wait. I wish they joined up with Grub hub so Hockessin had more on the app. I am looking forward to experiencing some other culinary delights again soon!
The pizzas and calzones are excellent. They use high quality ingredients. The workers are friendly and get to know their customers. The sad thing is that the other pizza places in Hockessin can't make a decent pizza. It is only flour, cheese, and sauce but somehow most places mess it up. There is only one other place out of about 6 pizza shops that can make a quality pizza. They have a very small seating area so it is not a good place for large groups. But if anyone says the pizza here is bad I really wonder what kind of pizza you are used to or like because the pizza they make is as good as any place I have been to locally or in Philly. The pizza they make is right up there with the best I have had.
Go for the food, not the ambiance. While the interior is a little spartan, they do have great pizza. Thin crust and good flavor. And they finish it with a drizzle of olive oil. My favorite outside of Taverna in this area. I also highly recommend the eggplant parm sub. The best I've ever had. They baste the inside of the roll with olive oil and garlic. You can select your cheese. I ordered sharp provolone and fresh mozzarella. The whole thing is toasted and the roll had a perfect crispy exterior with a soft interior.

Reviews:
For a mostly take out Chinese restaurant with cheap food this place isn't bad. But I question the 5 star reviews. It is not the best Chinese food in Delaware by far. And with the 3 tables, I did not even feel comfortable eating here. The wonton soup was a bit odd smelling. It was kind of artificial or had some ingredient I was not used to. Maybe it was just me or I was having a bad night, but I will pay more and go to places with better food. If you want fast take out for a cheap price, then you will be happy. But don't go here for a romantic dinner or with the family. It just doesn't have a warm feeling. If you look at the photo on their menu you will know what I mean. And if this was the last Chinese restaurant left on earth and I was starving I would still not give them 5 stars. I was thinking more like 2 stars but I feel bad for them stuck in a strip center and hope they get some business and help the local economy, so I give them 3 stars. But the fact that there are only 4 reviews says something doesn't it?
Great hot & sour soup and good sized portions - not too much - just right. Lunch Specials are always a delight!
Need a greasy Chinese food fix? This is your place! Yummy!

The Crownery Chinese Restaurant

228 Lantana Dr
Hockessin, 19707
Reviews:
Someone had reminded me about the review I had done in the past for this restaurant, I have been meaning to update this review. I realized one of the problems I have had with Delaware asian food is the Americanized versions that are served around the area. There have been many times that I have noted there is food on the menu that isn't that great, but I see the staff cooking and eating their meal that looks awesome. I went back to the Crownery to try different things on the menu and ordered off the Special Oriental Flavor dishes. This made a HUGE difference. The food was excellent and well made. The noodles with gravy are not repurposed poorly cooked italian pasta. The gravy is thick, rich, and have a layered flavor to them. The seafood, chicken, and vegetables are well prepared and complemented by the gravy. This menu makes the difference and tastes like what I expect of Chinese food. The Crownery is the best Chinese food I have had in Delaware and I continue to return there for food. Unfortunately it is a little out of the way for me, but worth it.
The Chicken with Ginger Black bean sauce was highly saturated in oil. So much oil you could pour it off and still not lose the black bean sauce. It was very greasy and heavy as a result. The chicken breading absorbed a lot of the grease too. The pork fried rice barely had pork in it. You really had to look for it and It tasted like white rice. The Crispy Beef Orange flavor was breaded too much. For the price it was not worth it. If you spend a lot they give you a free quart of Wonton soup, eggroll or chicken wings.I would rather have had good chinese food not greasy tasteless chinese food. Live and Learn!
I just finished speaking on the phone with the people at this restaurant. After FINDING A CATERPILLAR IN MY FOOD. I have NEVER written a poor review for a Chinese restaurant- I order Chinese take out every Friday night (and could barely live without it). I was happily eating my steamed shrimp with mixed vegetables when I realized that what I had previously thought a piece of mushroom, was an insect. A big one. With a lot of legs. And eyes. After I finished throwing up, we called the restaurant. They offered a free meal next order... Then told me "I'll tell the cook to watch out for these things." I understand gross things happen. But please don't offer me more of your food or a really mediocre response. They did refund us eventually but I cannot possibly eat there again and had to let other people know what had happened. (The extra star is because they did refund our money)
