Like the new menu. Miss the Cromwell burger. The Southwest chopped salad is delicious. I have not ventures to the Mexican food side of the menu lately. I did have the Patty Melt and Turkey Reuben and both were very good.

I tried this place for the first time tonight. Everything was well prepared, even the vegetables. The Tuesday special is lobster. A great choice, even though the tails are only four ounces each. Service was friendly and accommodating. After listing their desserts, I asked if they could make a creme de menthe parfait. The waitress said she had never seen one but would ask. In less than five minutes she returned with the requested dessert. I will go back for the half price burgers on Sunday, after 4:00.

Cromwell's Tavern is an atmospheric, slightly upscale place which is great for lunch. The prices are a little high, but I've always found that the service and food are above average. It's respectable enough for a business lunch. Try the burgers.

came here again with another Groupon! gotta love these things~ we went with the strategy i set up after my first visit--- getting an appetizer instead of dessert! So here's batter number 1: crab and artichoke dip! yummy yummy in my tummy! I could smell it as it was coming over! the dish is hot! coming straight from the oven, the dip is like melted lava but full of flavor. the only thing is that... even though I could smell the crab, we had trouble spotting it in the sea of creamy dip.. we wondered if there was any crab in it... Thankfully, on the last bite, I discovered the goodz :) I'd say it's one of the better artichoke dips i've had in my life. You don't feel like you're eating stuff straight from a can. Entree: grilled pork tenderloin, scallop salad (his) I was kinda bias in picking my choice... I saw what the server was holding when I was waiting to be seated and it looked mighty fine. i was captivated by a dish with fluffy mashed potato as the bed. I went for it. They got 2 options, either i can get the sirloin with garlic mashed or the special of the day, grilled pork tenderloin. I decided to take a stab at something new and went with the pork. I felt a little iffy when i first saw it on the plate because it just looked like this burned rock.. I had a rough time cutting it too. I put all my body weight into it and elbows up and everything just to saw it apart which made me even more nervous about the choice that I made. At last the moment of truth, I masticated it by barbaric means attacking its chewiness. But huh~? it wasn't tough at all! BOY, was I wrong judging it by its appearance. It was delicious! The piece of tenderloin was like an inch thick and the meat was so dense, no wonder it took superman strength to cut into it. But well worth it! The meat was actually quite tender in the center. The outer coating was charcoal-ed from the grill. Dip it into the garlic demi glace, it was absolutely perfect! Mashed potatoes were smooth and the pile of broccoli was softly cooked too. Yum, yum, yum, yum~~~~ In the end, another wonderful meal at Cromwell. Thank you again. I will be back when groupon offers those coupons again :D

One of the specials was calamari. 12.95 for about 10 pieces of straight calamari is ridiculous! We ordered a Caesar salad with shrimp. The waitress said if we didn't like a lot of dressing we should get it on the side. It came fully dressed and the dressing tasted like something out of the bottle. The alas was drowning in dressing! They gave us some more romaine but no saving the salad. The waitress took a long time with the free popcorn and told us not to wait but to get it ourselves. Maybe name changed but the food could use some changing!

Found this tavern on Yelp and decided to go based on it's decor (it's like dining in a castle!) and the substantial beer list. However, upon arriving the bartender could only recite 2 beers off this supposed generous beer list, as there was no written beer menu to speak of. Instead, she directed me to a chalk written board at the end of the bar to make my decision. Niiiice. The online list had Yard's Pale Ale out of Philadelphia as one of their offerings, even listed it on the "chalk board", but the bartender insisted she had never heard of it. She did, however, say they had the Yard's Brawler. When I asked her what it was like, she only replied, "malty". Ok, so clearly the staff aren't quite sure about their beer selection or how to sell it. The beer was actually very good, so I over looked the lukewarm service. We ordered the "spicy fish tacos", which were the farthest from spicy. In fact, bland. The portions meager, barely any fish on the taco shells and the shells had obviously been microwaved too long as they were gummy. The beans, pico, sour cream and guac were also very, very small in portion and came carelessly slapped on a separate plate. My boyfriend and I are very big into trying new foods and especially beers and the bartender just seemed annoyed at the few questions we had on the menu. She wasn't awful, but seemed a bit tasked when it came to answering menu related questions. The only time she spoke to us after we sat down was to get an order and when we walked out the door; never asked how the meal, brews, etc were. The one server who I approached to ask where the bathroom was located was super nice! Shockingly, she was being trained that night. Maybe the other staff should take a cue from her...... I heard the grilled cheese was great...but how hard is that to screw up? Try again next time I'm in the area. Perhaps the food AND the service will be warmer.

Love this place.,especially since they've added their Mexican menu. We used to live within walking distance and were there at least once a week.food is fresh, interesting, not overly done and the menu is has something for everyone and every mood. We love to sit in the bar area as it is the most casual but the whole restaurant is very laid back. Service is always good and the bartenders know their way around a margarita. Looking forward to going back next week!

This is a nice little restaurant tavern gem near Wilmington, it is located in a nice little section in Greenville in a small shopping/business center. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy, the service was good, and the food was very good. I always have a good experience there, prices are a little high.

This was a neat place! It is located in a very nice shopping center off 52. The service was a little slow, but it was a busy Friday night. They bring POPCORN instead of bread/butter. Fun idea!! I had the roast beef tip brisket sandwich with an au jus dip. It was awesome! Fun atmosphere.

I came here a couple of years ago with a friend for lunch. We shared the burger and the prime rib or roast beef sandwich. I can not remember which one it was. it was good but the burger was fantastic!!! I was so excited that i saw they had half price burgers on sunday nights! tried this place again last night with the bf's family. His mom suggested it and i was excited since it was a sunday night. I raved about the burgers being soooo good and the fact that they were half off. I will start off by saying thbe service was excellent. Waitress was very nice. I ordered the mushroom, bacon burger. What a disappointment! I ordered my burger med rare and it was med well. the edge on one side looked as if someone took a bite out of it..or wait-maybe it was The bun was good and fresh. but i got like 6 fries! my bf had the blue cheese burger. his burger was all there but still overcooked. It was a disappointment. the restaurant was empty also so not sure how these burgers were so overcooked. i will give one more chance and let best 2 out of 3 decide if I will go back for a 4th time.

We went for the first time. Food was very high quality. Way better than BBC. We found it using groupon and will return on our own. My son had chicken wings, which were more like chicken breast. He loved them, and I thought they were great. Staff was very friendly and warm. OUr waitress has worked there for over 10 years. Burger was great, all desserts were homemade. 1/2 price burgers on Sundays. See you Sunday!!!!! Try it try it try it!!!!

Went there on a recommendation to get the Cromwell grilled cheese. It was awesome we will go back. We also ordered the chicken nachos off the appetizers and let me tell you that is a meal in itself.

RJ and I came here for dinner on July 23. We started with chorizo queso fondue which was fantastic. Then we ordered the shrimp po boy and the flank steak club to share. There was a delay in getting our food because they had used grilled shrimp on the po boy so they remade it. We wish they had told us earlier because we would have liked that better. The fondue was so good we fought over the chunks of chorizo. We weren't crazy about the club sandwich because the steak and bread were just too chewy. The po boy was delicious and cooked perfectly, but grilled would have been even better!

Cromwells has apparently changed hands recently. Not a change for the better. In the past it had a friendly neighborhood bar vibe. Not so now. When we ate there recently on a busy weekend night there was an elderly party of 4 at the table next to us when we were seated waiting for their order. We ordered and got our food while they...... waited. You could almost see their blood sugar levels plummet. When they politely inquired about their order, the waitstaff was scathingly rude to them. They were, at best, like, "can't you see we're busy." We were like, "can't you see that they're paying the tab?" Even though this wasn't happening to us, it was unnerving and uncomfortable to hear and there would be no reason good enough to go back to hear it again. .

I ordered shrimp fajitas, which came with the shells on - not just the tails, but the full shells - mixed in with the peppers, onions, etc. I put the mixture into my tortilla and bit down, biting onto shrimp shells! The waitress said that they normally only have the tails on?!? (I order fajitas at a lot of restaurants, but have never had even the tails left on!!!) The service was extremely slow. They forgot one drink, ketchup, water, etc. Nothing was comped...nothing...although we mentioned - nicely - that we were unhappy. The music was awesome, thank God. NOTE: We have had decent meals here in the past, but that was a few years ago. Sad.

Got takeout nachos and a burrito and both were lacking. The nachos lacked the beans and corn mentioned on the menu. I added the brisket to my nachos order and it wasn't very flavorful, actually kind of dry.

Cromwell's has excellent food. Let me get that out there right away. I have eaten here twice, and both times, everything my party and I ordered has been spot-on excellent. From the cheese steak spring rolls, to the Blue Cheese Bayou Burger, to their excellent crème brûlée, I was thoroughly impressed. The atmosphere is quite intimate; it has the air of being a sort of hole-in-the-wall, but only in the best sense. The only thing I feel needs a bit of work is the service. My family stopped in on a Sunday for my pop's birthday. The woman who served us was brusque even though almost nobody else was in the restaurant when we were there. There wasn't much reason for her to be in such a rush. In addition, when people did start piling in, we had finished eating and were sitting around for a good 15 minutes before she even acknowledged us. We were craving desert, so the wait was annoying. I was half tempted to turn around, walk into the kitchen and just tell the chefs what we wanted; and skip the middleman (since the kitchen is practically right behind the main eating area). Regardless, when she finally did get our order and delivered desert, it was well worth the wait. I'll put it this way: If you're in a hurry and there are more than 5 active tables, go elsewhere. If you don't mind waiting for both excellent Hispanic and tavern-themed food, this is your place when in Wilmington.

My brother and I tried this place as first time customers thanks to a groupon. We followed all instructions correctly, called ahead of time for a reservation an mentioned the groupon. Despite having a reservation, we waited 10+ minutes for a table. The waitstaff was running around a bit frazzled (clearly understaffed for a rainy Thursday night). In general, the staff was polite, but clueless. We witnessed two groups of customers who were waiting get up and leave to go elsewhere. We should have followed suit. During the wait time, I decided to order a drink at the bar ($5 Grey Goose martini special on Thursdays--too good to be true). There was no bartender present and I stood at the bar for well over 5 minutes with zero acknowledgement or service. We were finally seated so I just ordered it from the server. Food: Tasty, but the prices are a bit off. Some of the pricing is spot on. However, we ordered the buffalo chicken winglets as an app and the small portion received was not worth the $11.95 price tag which is equlivalent to most main entree price points offered on the menu. Really shouldn't have been more than $7 for what we got. The food was tasty, yes. We definitely enjoyed what we ate. But the food was not unique or really hitting it out of the park. You can find their type of cuisine just about anywhere. Finally we come to the check--this is the biggest issue I had with the service. The bill came to $46 and change. Awesome, we had a $40 groupon. I provided the groupon with my card to cover the balance. The server came over and said there was some discrepancy with the martini deal, that we couldn't combine discounts. I said that was fine, expecting a separate $5 check to cover the drink. She took my card away and returned with a bill for $53 and change which included a FULL PRICED charge for the Grey Goose martini ($12.95)...what?? I tired to clear up this issue with her and she explained that we couldn't use the groupon towards the martini special. I said that was fine, I would pay for the martini separately and that our check for the meal still exceeded $40, so there should have been no issue with the groupon. She then proceeded to put this issue on me: Server: "No...see, this is why you're supposed to tell your server that you have a groupon before you go to pay for the check." Me: "Okay well we called and made a reservation earlier and mentioned the groupon. If you look in the seating book, our last name in written down with the word 'groupon' next to it. I tried to order the drink at the bar but no one even attempted to serve of acknowledge me. Had I been served then, I would have paid for the drink before the meal." Server: "No, well...I'm sorry..." No attempt to remedy the situation was made by the staff at all. I paid the ridiculous new check in full and tipped 20% (purely out of habit). We were not thanked for dining there or bid goodbye. We won't be back.

Interesting place. Seems to be confused as to WHAT type of restaurant it wants to be. The menu is a bit of a mess but the food is decent. It is missing a bit of finesse in the execution of the plates but no biggie for me. Prices are pretty spot on for the quality. Not worth driving out of your way for but works if you happen to drive by it.

This place needs Chef Ramsay ASAP!The menu is comical, so many different items, none are worth ordering. Atmosphere dark, service poor. Waitresses always rushed.. If you want a scotch and burnt burger and really don't care about the atmosphere thus is the place.

We went there today for lunch. We ordered an appetizer, 2 entrées and drinks. The entrées cost $17 each all told we spent over $60 for lunch. We also ordered 2 side salads. The menu said $3.75 with entrée, 6.75 without. When we got the bill we were charged the higher amount. When we asked the waiter to adjust the bill, he said we didn't order entrees. In fact there are no entrees on the menu. I asked why does it say that on the menu for the salads, he said the owner told him to charge the higher price all the time. I don't like being ripped off, and if the $4 means so much to them, then they lost us and all the people I speak to as customers. A great way to run a business. By the way the place was deserted, I guess other people were ripped off. Oh, by the way, the food was overpriced and nothing to write home about.

We went here on Tuesday night pretty much right after the big storm and they were super packed!! They said 30 min wait in the phone but we waited maybe 5 minutes before we were seated. The waitress was super friendly and you could tell she was a bit flustered from all the tables being packed so it wasn't a big deal that we had to wait longer than normal for service and drinks and food. We ordered the fried mac and cheese appetizer which, while it was tasty it seemed rather tasteless and the marinara bath it say in was definitely the star flavor. We also shared a bowl of the soup of the day that was steak cheese and onion and it was seriously AMAZING. (Really...if they ever have it available, order it!!! I even got a bowl to go of it) I got the turkey Reuben sandwich and my friend got the tuna steak burger. Both were seriously delicious!! The coleslaw on the sandwich was perfect. The only down side were our fries, which were definitely over cooked, but I attributed that to the fact that the place was so busy. We both ordered dessert: the walnut white chocolate bread pudding which was rather disappointing, not very "bread pudding-y" and couldn't taste the white chocolate at all. (Majorly disappointed in that as I love bread puddings) the other was their classic creme brûlée. That was quite tasty! The top of the hardened sugar was nonexistent but there was a soft sugar top (I didn't mind since I pass the hard topping to whoever I'm out to eat with!) it had a lovely whipped cream top and a nice amount of sliced strawberries. The waitstaff were all very nice. Also, right now they have a groupon, so check for that before you head there! I can't wait to go there again, their menu is really fantastic!! I definitely recommend this place. I came here more than ten years ago as a kid with my father and it was wonderful back then too and it certainly lived up to my childish memories!!

We had a great lunch. Smoke brisket dip + chorizo quesadilla - both were delicious and served with correct timing. Note the restaurant was full and quite busy when we sat down. A restaurant we've been to before although not recently. Worth a return visit soon!

I just recently ate at Cromwell's in Greenville, DE. I must say, from walking in and seeing the decor, I was pretty excited for our meal. It seemed like it would have been a great little spot, but I was wrong. I began being skeptical after seeing such a long menu; I worried that they would not be able to properly execute such a large menu. First, the service was subpar. We got our table right away; however we only saw our waitress a couple times, and one time we had to ask where she was...which leads me to my next gripe. The food was not good or should I say my food. My wife enjoyed her Turkey Ruben with house made chips, which also were tasty. I, however, did not enjoy my meal. I ordered the Pacific Rim Burger on the lighter side of medium. The burger was cooked properly, but it tasted like a pre-frozen burger and that was the only flavor that came through on the execution of this burger. The burger was billed to have a honey-chipolte glaze, which was nowhere to be found. The tempura pepper ring fell apart after my first attempt to bite into the burger. The pea shoots were great for appearance, but too many were on the burger and made for an odd texture. The "California Mayo" was just guacamole with no flavor. Finally, the worst portion of this burger--the multigrain ciabatta roll that the burger was not able to withstand for two minutes. After one bite my burger split in half and fell off the "bun." it was so difficult to eat that I had to ask for an actual burger bun so I could put my burger back together to eat. As a person who has eaten his share of hamburgers in his lifetime, I have never had so much difficulty eating a burger in my life! I had an easier time eating the Cheesburger Cheeburger Pounder Challenge than I did this "half" pound burger. If you are in the Greenville area and you are in need of a burger, I would either stay on 52 and head to Kid Shelleen's outside of Trolley Square or go across the street to the BBC. Will I try Cromwell's American Tavern and Taqueria again? I might, but I will be steering away from their burger. However, you have to ask yourself: If a place can't make a simple item like a burger, what are the chances that they can hit any of the other 60 items on their menu (specials not included). My suggestion is that they pare their menu down and focus on a few items that can be executed properly instead of operating a high-end dinner menu.

I had the cucumber margarita and the pork fajita salad last night. Cinco de maya. It was very good. We sat on the bar side at a high top so the bar tender was our waitress. I would have to say that she was busy so it took some time for her to wait on us and bring us our food. That fajita salad was sooo good!!

I love Cromwell's. I feel like I've left Delaware and have ventured into a mountainside tavern. Its a great cozy place to eat or hangout. The food is excellent- fresh, hearty, and wholesome. The staff is friendly, prompt, and attentive. This is one of my favorite local restaurants in the area by far.

I thought this place was really nice and cozy. Food was pretty good, but service wasn't so good. We were basically rushed out and asked to leave right after we signed the check. We were told that there was a "certain type of clientele" that comes in for 1/2 price 1/2 pound burgers and they were waiting. Haha...um...ok.

I really really liked Cromwell's- great ambiance and close to home. A great neighborhood place. My husband and I regurlarly order out on Sunday nights- he really enjoys the burger. A little pricey but usually worth it. However, in a recent dining experince he ordered the fajitas and I ordered the crab cake sandwich. His fajitas were ok and I couldnt eat the crab cake sandwich- it tasted like the crab was spoiled- fishy and foul. All you really had to do was smell it. I still like the ambiance but am more willing to branch out to BBC or Buckleys now after that dinner.....

Three couples, us being one, left upon arrival due to 30 min wait time while tables were visibly empty. Definitely make reservations for a Fri/Sat. To the restaurant: For heaven's sake, seat people, get them a drink and they'll be happy while you catch up. We'll give it another shot sometime, but I personally saw three $75 checks walk out the door while tables sat empty. If they were reserved, well ... the people weren't there.

A nice little spot, waitress was friendly and service was good for how busy they were. I ordered the wedge salad and tacos - both good. Husband ordered the nachos platter (good size) and chorizo tacos. We split the creme brûlée. Everything was delicious! Would visit again. After reading previous posts, we did make reservations but noticed that they were seating others very quickly as well.

Nice little hideaway. Love the decor. They also have a whole Mexican influenced menu on top of the regular tavern menu. Have not tried anything from the Mexican menu yet but will be trying it soon. This place is definitely worth checking out if you're in the area.

They're grilled cheese is great but they should ditch the wannabe taqueria aspect and stick with what they know. The dining environment is lovely if you are eating in. Stick with the all American menu and steer clear of the posturing Mexican menu and you'll be alright.

This place will always hold a special place in my heart because my BF and I had our first date here. Tavern is the perfect descriptive as the restaurant is cozy with rounded stone archways and walls lined with books. We had a pleasant chatty waitress that offered us popcorn upon seating. We ordered a mussels appetizer and southwestern salads. Food was good but not as wonderful as the company. We've returned one time since and I tried a salmon concoction (see photo). The salmon had potato string chips on it and overall was pretty bland and forgettable. I would go back for drinks but the food needs an overhaul.

Today was my first Cromwell's experience for a coworker's birthday lunch. We made a reservation for 5 people but didn't really need it...They do not accept lunch reservations for less than 5, but it wasn't very busy from 12-1pm when we were there. Our server, Susan, was wonderful. She checked on us frequently and helped us make selections on the menu. She was very personable and took good care of us. We each got different things; the falafal sliders w/fries; a turkey burger; 2 regular burgers, and I had the spicy fish tacos made with mahi mahi. All was great across the board. We also had a very good goat cheese/mushroom creamy dip for an appetizer which was a hit. The birthday girl got a huge slice of cheesecake with sliced strawberries and a red berry drizzle. The graham cracker crust tasted homemade (I think all their desserts are homemade) and was thick-so more yumminess to enjoy! I would like to go back again for lunch or dinner. The one thing that bothered me a little was that the menu said my fish tacos were $9.95 but on the bill they charged me $10.95. I didn't want to make a stink over $1, but they should make sure their menu price matches what they charge you.

My husband and I met up with two other couples at Cromwell's for dinner. We liked the ambiance right away. The beer drinkers in the group enjoyed the selection of craft beers. Everyone ordered something different to eat -- some from the pub menu, some from the Mexican menu. We all thought the food was very good. We finished off the meals by sharing a basket of sweet potato fries. Dee-lish! I have no doubt that we'll be going back again.

Have only been here for a quick drink or two after work and that was years ago. Last night we came in for dinner on a whim. It was wonderful. I loved my salad, field greens, goat cheese, pecans, apples and flank steak. There wasn't a spec of food left. I think my date enjoyed his pork tenderloin too. He said maybe 3 words the whole time while eating and never offered me a bite.

I just met my Mom for lunch at Cromwell's Tavern and I was happy I had an orange waiting for me at my desk when I got back. Cromwell's is one of the three lunch options in Powder Mill Square (including Brew Ha Ha!) and by far, the coziest. The inside resembles an old library, with leather booths and books crammed into shelves in the wall. The salads could be bigger, but that doesn't stop me from trying them time after time. I was so sad when they took the Roasted Chicken salad off the menu and have yet to find an adequate replacement. Today, I had the Signature Salad (which featured mandarin oranges, strawberries, apples, blue cheese, turkey and blue cheese) and a cup of crab chowder (tomato-based) to start. I am not 100% full, but sated. I will always go back to Cromwell's because I love the atmopshere and the servers. Someday, when I do not have to fit into a bridesmaid dress, I am going to get the four cheese grilled cheese.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
