had the bbc burger. it was great and good proportion. it had good quality meat. the bread stood up to all the ingredients without falling apart and without being heavy. the burger was fire grilled which is key. hate griddle cooked burgers. the best part of burger was it was cooked to medium as ordered. so many burger places get medium cook wrong. I was a happy camper with the bbc burger. Searching for the perfect burger and this one is up there.

Good place with good beer selection. Fried spicy chicken sandwich is awesome - highly recommend. Epic nachos - huge!

Came here after a long weekend and we got the nachos. They were huge and could fill 4 people. They were awesome. Drinks were ok, the bartender was out of touch with the specials. It wasn't until i used the bathroom did i see a daily special list that contradicted what he said they were. We will be back for those nachos

I was slightly disappointed. After hearing about this place for several weeks I expected better food and service. The grapefruit gin and tonic mixed drink was great but the salad dressing was flavorless and salmon was just plain greasy. The waitress was cordial but never checked on us or refilled our waters. I would recommend for a drink but not dinner.

Went for brunch on Sunday. Menu was sparse for brunch but they were flexible to order what we wanted. Service was painfully slow and our orders were wrong (American instead of Cheddar cheese in two omelets). The food was adequate but not "good." Then waited 25 minutes to get the check. Thankfully I looked at the bill as it was a completely different bill for a non-brunch related order. After 5 more minutes, the correct bill mercifully arrived. BBC is a great place for beer and I have had a decent lunch there before. They do great fundraisers as well. They don't really market Sunday brunch, so the menu could be forgiven. The service was subpar, though the waiter was polite. I wouldn't recommend BBC for brunch.

I wanted to give 4 stars but thought the prices were high - my salad was $14! We started with the soft pretzels appetizer, as did everyone seated around us, and we enjoyed them quite a bit. I had the Cobb salad, the grilled chicken was really delicious. I would definitely order again. My husband had the Thai shrimp salad which he enjoyed but thought the portion was a bit small. Overall a pleasant experience but a $50 lunch is a bit much for salads and a kids grilled cheese.

We spent some time at the bar and stayed for dinner over the weekend as part of a big family gathering. The bar is big and surrounded by several TVs and the bartenders were very friendly and attentive. They have a relatively extensive beer list in addition to specials and cocktails. Initially we were put off by the cost of the nachos, but once they arrived - those platters (seriously, platters) are gigantic. Highly recommend the extra buffalo chicken and blue cheese additions. I enjoyed the crab and artichoke dip, but it probably didn't need the chopped tomatoes. My buffalo chicken sandwich was good - lots of blue cheese and sauce. I added sweet potato fries on the side as well. Saturday is half price bottles of wine - but only on a selection of six bottles. We weren't huge fans of the white (it was a substitute since they were out of the originally listed one). But everyone enjoyed the red. Definitely worth it if you're with a big group!

Had a group lunch here. 6 of us ordered the BBC burger. Delicious! 2 had the chicken cheesesteak. Enjoyable as well. One order of meatloaf resulted in a clean plate. All for a reasonable total.

The hostess sat her group of friends, who arrived before us: then hiding herself so she could spend five minutes talking to her friends before getting back to work, while we stood there waiting watching her talk. Needless to say when she did make herself visible, she was not in the mood to do her job. She was incredibly rude and handed us our menus along with saturday wine specials (it was a wednesday). after ordering a bottle of wine we were told that this was not available due to ordering off of the wrong menu. Making sure the customer receives the correct daily wine menu does not seem like too a large a task for a hostess. i overheard an elderly table of people being told that they had to pay full price for the bottle of wine that they ordered because it was not on that nightly list, knowing full well that they were given the wrong menu to begin with. It is INCREDIBLY RUDE to trick elderly people in to overpaying! There is outdoor seating, however, it is directly in wedged between the front of the restaurant and the parking lot. Food was mediocre. The open faced tuna sandwich: mayo, tomato, and teriaki tuna. I would suggest replacing the tomato with some sort of cabbage slaw and using brioche. The food is definitely not memorable, even for Delaware standards. All in all, the hostess's poor attitude really killed the experience for me and I would spend time looking for another option before returning to this restaurant. Before leaving, I watched her 'clean' the outdoor tables by flicking crumbs off of the table and on to the chairs. come on, you could at least pretend to care about your job.

Went to lunch today. After ordering my glass of champagne (which took a full 15 minutes to arrive) I was looking forward to the nice warm Caprese Sandwhich. Unfortunately the sandwich was cold along with the sweet potato fries. Our server was sooooo slow even our drinks got warm just waiting to be served. VERY disappointing considering it was a Wednesday and not very busy. Delaware is a waste land when it comes to good food, service and atmosphere!

This review should be a zero review but that is not an option. I live down the street and have gone to this bar at least once a month and have had decent service. However, as of late, the bar-tending has become that which will find at University of Delaware...actually...UofD bartenders are more regulated and don't skimp on your drinks in an effort to pour them selves drinks. That brings me to the point at hand and I'm Gonna get right to the point here. We had already racked up an eighty dollar tab with some beers, food, and mixed drinks and we were gonna close out for the night. However, because we were at a bar that prides themselves on their knowledge of liquor, we ordered the best Añejo in the house; and what transpired is why this bar should be looked upon as trap for locals who don't know their spirits. In short... The bartender (names TJ) poured $48 worth of top shelf Tequila into a shaker, poured $5 dollars of it into two shot glasses for my friend and I, then poured the rest into a glass for himself and changed us the entire amount and drank his $40 part in front if us. There is so many things wrong with this but number one, Añejo is not taken is shots. I think you all can figure what else is wrong with the bar. Did I mention he gave all of his friend free fireball shots all night. What a joke this place is. Heed my warning fellow Centervillians.

I really like BBC. The food is always fresh and the service is often pretty good. Inside is cozy. Outside seating is a plus in warm weather. Also, I'm not a drinker, so I love when places have local/microbrew root beer. This is always a plus for me.

Great time here tonight. Apps: wings were delish, we ordered extra crunchy and they came just that. Cheesesteak egg rolls terrific! Caprese was ok because the cheese was sliced too thin. Filet was cooked well, but asparagus over cooked. Reuben is just awesome and crunchy, no soggy toast in this one. A bit too much BBQ sauce on the ribs. We didn't have dessert. The beer menu is expansive. We will be back.

Love the ambience. Wine was good. Service was very good. That's it. Food was not that great. Flounder was fishy but the balance of the meal was okay. Crab cake had too many fillers. The table next to us had chicken wings, they smelled and looked great. Maybe try that!

Had Flounder on 3/7. It was very tender and well prepared. The food has always been good. Matt L

First time here, passing through on the way to Winterthur. Lunchtime, New Year's Eve, steady flow of customers, but not overwhelming amount of people. Seated quickly, server was pleasant. The specials board out front mentioned choice of soup or salad and half sandwich. It was also listed on the insert in the menu. The half sandwich was a grilled cheese with bacon which sounded wonderful for a cold day. Ordered with the half salad. After placing my order, the waitress came back and said it comes with soup also. I was excited but I made sure to ask if that was for real since the sign and menu both said otherwise. My food came out, no sandwich in sight. I was told that it was soup or salad or sandwich. The waitress then proceeded to say that the hostess must have written it wrong on the board. I then watched two servers go outside to reread the menu board. The waitress came back and said she spoke with the manager and it would be "addressed". No one changed the board and I didn't hear the whirl of a printer whipping up new inserts for the menu. It all sounded a little odd but it definitely seems like our waitress doesn't familiarize herself with the daily specials. My advice: speak slowly when ordering or even a illustration on the napkin may ensure your order is correct.

I've visited the BBC a couple of times both for happy hour and for meals. It's very close to my work so double points for convenience. If you're visiting for a weeknight happy hour, expect the bar to be packed. There bar itself is a nice u-shaped affair with seating, standing areas on all three sides. There are some large screens showing sports and also a big fireplace that is a nice touch in the winter. Age range for the happy hour tends to be a bit older (think late 30s to early 50s). They have a pretty nice beer selection. Not a huge amount on tap, but quite a few in bottles. I only ordered a mixed drink one (gin and tonic) and ended up with a pint glass full of tanqueray with a wedge of lime. High points for value of gin, but low points for ability to make a pretty basic mixed drink. Also ordered the buffalo chicken nachos at happy hour. While delicious and large, they also run about $18. I wouldn't order them again for the price. They are 1/2 price on Thursdays for a little while and I would probably order them with the deal. I've also visited twice for actual eating, once for dinner and once for lunch. Lunch I had the mahi-mahi sandwich which I thought they did very well. Fish was nicely cooked. The second time for dinner, we ordered the hummus platter for an appetizer. It was wonderful with nice soft pita and a variety of other toppers including tomato, lettuce, kalamata olives, feta etc. I had a salad for dinner, can't remember which one. I don't remember anything being wrong with it, but I also don't remember it being fantastic. Prices are a bit high for food overall, but drink prices are pretty standard.

After visiting the Winterthur Museum to see the Downton Abbey exhibit, my wife and I stopped in for lunch before heading home to Maryland. The BBC Teavern was recommended in a local newspaper article on the Downton exhibit. It did not disappoint. We ordered the hot pretzel sticks, which were fabulous and entree salads, which were also very good. We were there at the height of lunchtime, the tavern was full, there was a private party, but our food arrived in a reasonable time with no problems. Also our server, Erica, was outstanding. Even though she was working on 8 tables, she was very pleasant and efficient. Next time in the Greenville area, we will definitely eat at the BBC Tavern again.

Came for a friend's birthday. Solid selection of seasonal and standard craft beers on tap and in bottles. The server made good recommendations. I eventually switched to gin, and was pleased to see they had Hendricks. The BBC Burger was good; it has earthy local mushrooms and came out just as asked (medium rare on a brioche roll instead of country). Sweet potato fries were good, just the right balance of sweet and salty. We hung out for a few hours at our bar area high top table and had a great time. There's a weird one piece metal foot rest rail for all the tables sitting against the far wall. It's really flexible, so if one person steps on it to get up, eeeeeverybody's feet/legs bounce up and down. That was annoying, but at least nobody had a nervous leg shake.

Good place for lunch. Quick service. Quality food. Mixups with the drinks are common. I think only once I got the beer I ordered on the first try.

I do enjoy coming here. I think the food taste very fresh and offers many healthy options. I do think the clientele sometimes can be iffy especially when seated around the bar area and this sometimes turns me off from wanting to dine here. I enjoy coming in the summer the best when you can sit outside. I would recommend getting the nachos they are very good.

i normally wouldn't give a bar 5 stars, but this place is great! unbelievable food, amazing beer/wine selection, and great ambience. if you're looking for a "snack" get the nachos... though i must warn you this appetizer is bigger than a full dinner... they're awesome!

Been here a few times. Sub par service. The waitresses don't know much about the "extensive" beers offered. There's nothing worse than asking a waitress about what a beer tastes like (in a place with "Brewing Co." In its name) and getting a reply that starts off "I think it tastes like..." To their credit, they have rolled "Brandywine Brewing Company" all up into the acronym BBC, and perhaps it's too much of me to ask them to have their waitstaff properly trained in the tastes of the beers they serve. Then again, I'm sure that most of the people working at KFC could tell you what fried chicken tasted like, even thought the two words have been rolled up into a three-letter acronym. The food is a gamble.I'd recommend not venturing too far from the types of food that would be found in the repertoire of your average short-order cook. The burgers are good (although, I have yet to taste a bad burger). The last time I was there, I ordered the grilled mahi mahi (after all, this is a staple of every neighborhood Red Lobster). It came out pretty late. The waitress said "since you ordered the mahi mahi, your meals will take a little longer to come out." Should have been my first clue. I've heard that excuse before, but normally when someone at the table asks for a well-done steak or burger. But apparently it takes longer for the flesh of mahi mahi to render opaque in the four walls of the BBC Tavern and Grill. It arrived, and when it did, it was hard as a rock (cooked dry), seasoned like it was a New York strip, and served with some kind of a fruit relish that tasted like it was a Del Monte variety pack that was chopped up. Yuck! It costs $20. This is yet another "Voted Delaware's Best" restaurant that could use a visit from Chef Robert Irvine!

When you order the "house Chardonnay", and the server says " It's really not that good, may I suggest..." SCAM ALERT!! Very noisy, service mediocre.

My feeling are complicated. The nachos are great, the appetizers are solid. The meals are decent, some better than others. The service is variable. The bar is also sometimes hit or miss (I once ordered a mojito that tasted like gin, other drinks have been better, some worse), although they usually have a few drinks that I enjoy. I'm not much of a beer drinker, but my fiance usually enjoys their selection. I love the outdoor seating area when the weather is nice. When is it busy, is it crazy loud, almost intolerable, we try to go at odd times to avoid that problem. They accept reservations which is a definite bonus.

Not so good beer on draft. Better to go for bottled-craf-beer. And I did not eat so cannot say about that.

It took awhile for a server to take our drink orders. Food is pretty decent- especially the meatloaf! It can become extremely noisy during dinner time.

Had dinner here with RJ on Sunday night. We ordered the crab and artichoke dip which was very good. RJ had shrimp and grits and I had the filet. The filet was supposed to be rare and was more like medium and was a little chewy. The mashed potatoes were excellent. I tasted RJ's shrimp and thought that was better than my steak. The service was ok but the waitress did seem a little annoyed with us for taking so long.

The best things on the menu are nachos and wings. I would not order anything else to avoid disappointment. I have ordered take out from here on several occasions and they have 90% of the time messed up my order or have not included something I've bought. Once they gave me someone else's order entirely. How does this continue to happen? Not wasting my money on take out here again.

This is our local go to place for a nice lunch or dinner. They sometimes put coupons in the mailers that are delivered to your home. Great deals! There is bar seating, dining room and a wonderful outdoor space. The service is very fast and friendly. I had the salmon Caesar salad and the salmon was done perfectly and a nice size piece. My husband had the chicken cheese steak and was very happy with it. Lunch, dinner or drinks with friends all will work out just fine!

I was down in Delaware on a business trip and this was the first lunch spot my boss suggested... so I didn't really have a choice. We only went for lunch so I don't have much of an opinion. The waitresses was very nice and attentive. My co-workers had the bison burger and they seemed to enjoy it. I went with the crab cake sandwich. Good bun. The crab cake was decent. Nothing special or over the top. It looked like they had a lot of good craft brews on tap, but unfortunately I was on the clock.

Wife and I visited on a Saturday evening and sat at the bar. Ordered nachos for appetizer and a sandwich and soup for our entrees. Nachos came out and, honestly, two minutes later our entrees came out. Nachos were excellent, rest of the food was average. Our bartender/server seemed uninterested in serving the bar and seemed to provide service based on his own schedule. We observed him standing around and actually eating while patrons empty glasses went unnoticed. It is hard for me to believe that there was a competent manager on duty who would allow this type of service. However after reading many yelp reviews it is pretty clear that this type of service seems the norm. From my experience in the restaurant industry this type of service starts at the top.
