I've been here a couple times and it was all good. The salads look like they cut and wash the veggies to order. Just an FYI, normally in a restaurant that has over 100 items you might want to stick with what is the special for that day or you will get some frozen stuff. The turkey plate is always the best if you want to get rid of that thanksgiving day craving during the year. If somebody asked me about Georgetown Family Restaurant I would have no problem telling them YES, GO.

This restaurant is just what it's name suggests: a little family restaurant here in this little rural town. The service is wonderful and friendly, and they have a huge menu. I had the broiled crab cakes, and they were buttery and lumpy (no filler). Great! The people I went with assure me that everything on the menu is good, and I can believe it.

This morning, after church, my husband and I decided to have breakfast out. The Harvest Diner was packed with no parking available so we slipped in town. We thought we would give GFR another try. After all, it has been a while. Well, it may have been a while, but nothing has changed. I ordered a Philly Cheese Steak Omelette. My husband ordered a seafood omelette. We both had coffee. The cups are rather small and they do not bring you a carafe. They also do not bring you a dish with creamers. If you want more then 3 little creamers, you must ask for it. If you want a refill, well you better be a good hunter so you can locate your waitress. Oh, and don't expect another waitress to fill your cup as she fills the table next to you.... after all, you are not her table!!! The omelettes came. They were absolutely tasteless. Excuse me, but does a Philly Cheese Steak have onion and peppers? Neither were in this omelette. It was just minute steak and american cheese inside a oh too well browned omelette. This garbage came served with home fries, again totally unseasoned, and get this...burnt toast. $18 for this mess. Not worth a dime! The waitress was too busy doing whatever she was busying herself with to even check. Steve, you really need to be IN the restaurant more then payday as the waitress said. This place is a disappointment, What happened to the days of you being there making sure the level of quality was high? What happened to great wait staff like Anita? IF things are going to stay this way you should close the doors. What a shame!

My experience with the Georgetown Family Restaurant has been just the opposite of my experience with Smith's restaurant, which once occupied the Georgetown Family Restaurant's building before going out of business. Though Smith's failed, I'm inclined to believe it was due to lack of business management knowledge as opposed to having bad customer service / food / etc. Unfortunately, this restaurant is quite the opposite of Smith's and is perhaps the epitome of "Slower Lower DE." I'm basing my review on just one experience, though I have been here once before when in town. I phoned in an order for some other people and myself around lunchtime and arrived about 15 minutes after I called, which is when the waitress on the phone said our meals would be ready. One thing I can definitely say about this place: they get the food out of the kitchen and onto the table with blazing speed. SERVICE: Unfortunately, the kitchen staff's speed and efficiency hasn't rubbed off on the waitress / hostess that waited on me. I arrived and saw that the restaurant was pretty devoid of people at lunchtime, with only a few groups sitting on benches along the walls (maybe about 8 groups of people in the restaurant). Two other groups of people were standing at the front, however, waiting to either pay for their meal or pick up food. I stood with them for about 3-4 minutes while multiple waitresses sauntered around and never acknowledged us despite the fact that they looked our way several times. No staff member was at the front of the house to greet anybody, and there was no cashier anywhere to be seen. Finally, I saw a woman emerge from behind a divider wall and stand in the back, surveying the restaurant. She stood there for a good 30-45 seconds, looking at the people waiting to check out at the front several times, before another woman asked her if she would mind coming up front to deal with us. I was stunned at how slowly she walked up to the cash register. Though the two other parties and I had obviously been waiting for a while without any acknowledgement, which we all commented on to one another as we waited, this woman strolled up to the front of the house as if she was on vacation at the beach. I don't think a human being could be any more nonchalant in a business environment. She took care of the other two parties quickly, then dealt with me flippantly. After I paid, she asked me if I wanted a receipt - when I said yes, she seemed oddly amazed that I would want one, saying something like "Well, suit yourself, buddy!" Another server had moved up front and had checked all of my food that was sitting on a table beside the cash register. She then proceeded to take the bagged food off of the table and put it right behind my feet on the floor without telling me. I didn't trip on it, but I easily could have, as I didn't notice she had done anything. To top everything off, neither of the two employees that were standing up front "helping" me said anything when I left - no "goodbye," " thank you for your business," or anything of the sort. The one woman's "well, suit yourself, buddy" mentioned earlier was the last thing I heard. I felt I should go into a lot of depth when describing the service here because even though it occurred several days ago, it still stands out in my mind as being odd and uncomfortable. FOOD: There's really no other all-encompassing word to describe the food I have gotten from here but "bland." I ordered fried flounder, macaroni and cheese, green beans, and a piece of chocolate cake. The other people I ate with agreed that everything was basically tasteless too. Though we are in America, land of the bland, it still surprised me that the fish had nearly no spices or flavor, the macaroni and cheese was purely tasteless, the green beans were saturated in too much water, and the chocolate cake was nearly like cardboard. Good thing we ordered take out so that we could come home and spice the food up a bit, but for (if I remember correctly) around $17 per plate, I expected a bit more. I had fish here on a prior trip and I recall it being the most flavorless fish I had ever eaten as well. OVERALL: I know this isn't a gourmet place, but I expect better service and would like food that's a bit more flavorful. The flippant behavior of one person was mostly what made my experience a negative one, though, so I hope that everyone else deals with somebody more pleasant.

We wanted a quick lunch between baseball games. We had a larger group and we had had bad experiences at other restaurants when we tried to eat as a team. This restaurant had good food and they were excellent at accommodating our group. The wait staff was very efficient and organized in getting all orders/bills straight and the kitchen staff was extremely efficient at getting the food out. Overall an excellent experience.

Amazing breakfast - lots of food for very little money. The service wasn't the most friendly, but it was fast and good. I will go back if I return to Georgetown. For all the same sex couples applying for a marriage license, you should hit this place for a cheap meal.

This is a great restaurant. We eat there at least once a week. Everything is very fresh. The soups are incredible! Turkey and chicken pot pie are other must-try dishes. Surprisingly, their burgers are better than the upscale places like Ruby Tuesday. Fresh ground, well seasoned, buttered toasted bun. Because there are so many repeat customers you sometimes have to be patient, as the staff gets delayed talking to the regulars. If you have room for dessert (dinner portions are generous) the selections are homemade and delicious.
