Not a bad place to get a piece of fish in Dover. Unfortunetly most of the menu is fried but what can you expect from a place whose interior decor is stuck in 1981. It's like walking through a time machine...

Can you say bacterial infection? Yup that's right, we got bacterial infections from this food. It was not fresh. Please, do yourself a favor, run away from this place. This was the worst food that we have ever had in our lives. We looked past the crappy decor and the odd plating of the food but when others say it was fresh, believe me it was not.

Again, I ate here with Mark earlier this year. This place is exactly what it thinks it is, "A Fried Seafood Place". Sure the atmosphere is a little dated or even country. The salad is lousy and the patrons can be a little rough around the edges HOWEVER.... if you are looking to eat as much extremely fresh, mercilessly fried seafood, as you can, this is your place! I had the big scatter platter with fried shrimp, whitefish, oysters, scallops, hush puppies and fries. I made no bones about what I was there. I was there to honor Mark's legendary grandfather with a gross physical salute that would see me easily eat three pounds of fried food and drink the better part of a pitcher of beer. I was immensely satisfied. Like I said, this place is exactly what it thinks it is. So if yo uadjust your expectations and go with it, I assure you you will find a soft spot in your heart for this throwback family seafood place. ***As a side note; I sort of wonder what they won't fry here. I mean, would they flash fry a slice of cake or deep fry my whole plate for effect?

This restaurant came highly recommended by all the Dover guys we were working with, but none of us thought it was that great. Not wanting seafood, I had a pasta primavera that looked amazing but tasted bland. The presentation really was beautiful, and I liked that it had big chunks of grilled veggies in it, but the sauce was oily, flavorless, and under-salted. I don't like salty food at all, so if I think a dish needs salt it must REALLY need salt. I was not offered any parmesan, either. The other guys at my table had fried something or others, and they were kind of picking at their food. I don't think either of them actually finished, but then again I didn't hear any serious complaints out of them, either. On the bright side: big, cheap, cold pitchers of beer and friendly service, even at 8 or 9 at night.

Great burgers and grilled chicken sandwich. Very friendly staff. Hang out for the Monster Racing staff during the season.

If you want fried seafood, this is a good place to go. Otherwise, meh. The chocolate cake is slammin' though, and the slice is so huge that you won't be able to finish it, even if you share.

What is the deal with this place? Their food is horrible & they have a really rude wait staff. How does this place even stay in business? The last few times we have been here (not by choice) there is never anyone in the restaurant! And this is on the weekends too!

Schucker's Pier 13 has good food, good prices, and decent service but seems to be stuck in an identity crisis when it comes to the decor and menu. This place doesn't look like much from the outside. the signage connected to the building has seen better days and should probably be replaced. Upon entering, there are three dining rooms where you could be seated; this is the first instance of the identity crisis. The one straight ahead has tables with table clothes and looks semi-upscale, the one to the immediate left if full of tables with lower end chairs made of metal often found at diners and booths that have a strange felt like upholstery on them, and the final one is in the bar area which is a separate room entirely. The menu is obviously seafood heavy but there is just so much going on that if they just scaled it back by half, they'd be better off for it because they could focus on a lot less dishes to make them the best they can be. This is why this is the second part of the identity crisis; they are trying to please to many people. Virtually anything can be deep fried for those who don't really love good seafood. There is a good selection of fish and seafood that can be prepared in a few different ways and it's always been good. One thing that stands out it is the amuse bouche that comes shortly after you sit down. It's normally a pan fried version of one of the fish but it's a great little bite that gets you excited to order more. The service is normally pretty good but there have been some hiccups here and there that made me use the word descent to describe it in the first sentence of this review. A good place to come for seafood but the decor and menu really take away from what could be a great restaurant.

It was recommended highly. We were extremely disappointed. Food was over cooked, server gave the last of the soup that we ordered to someone that ordered after us and she never asked us how our meal was. Would not ever go back

We have come to Shucker's every race weekend for as long as I can remember. The past few years, we've had some sort of issue happen every time we've come here. This year, we left before we even finished ordering our entrees. Ordered drinks that came weak in tiny plastic cups. Waitress was timely and very friendly, but had absolutely no authority to make a change to a menu item. She had to leave ask management for permission four times while taking our orders. At dinner hour, on what I'm sure is their busiest weekend of the year,, they were OUT OF CLAMS. They would only let us have additional shrimp as a substitution. So in ordering the large $38 steamed seafood dinner, we would have been required to get 24 shrimp. We could only have what was included in the meal as a substitution for the clams THEY HAD RUN OUT OF. We could have substituted more crab, but for an UP CHARGE of $1.50. It wasn't about the up charge or the cost. It was the fact that management required this poor server to ask about substituting anything besides shrimp. (Who wants to eat 24 shrimp?). And after ordering drinks, appetizers and 5 of the most expensive meals on the menu, they wouldn't eat the $1.50 in extra cost of substituting anything besides 24 bloody shrimp. We weren't asking for gourmet. We haven't seen a fantastic meal at this restaurant in a long while. But some respect might have been nice. Shame on the management of this restaurant. Your waitstaff deserve raises for the crap you put them through. On a happy note, we drove a bit up the road and found Reel Fish Restauarant. A hidden gem in Dover! Delicious food, fantastic service and highly recommended over Shucker's any day of the week.

Extremely unhappy. Probably one of the worst experiences in a "seafood" restaurant. The appetizers came out pretty much on at a time every fifteen mins. The lettuce in our salad was brown the stuffed mushrooms crab filling was really dry. I ordered fried shrimp and scallops, my sister order seafood combo and my brother in-law ordered bacon wrapped scallops. The shrimp tasted like iodine, my sisters scallops were raw her vegetables were mushy and bland and my brother in-laws scallops were covered in o bay seasoning which wasn't noted on the menu. We brought our issues to the waitress, waitress didn't seem to care. Told me to order something else beside the shrimp so I ordered chicken fingers. They said that would remake the scallops but after thirty mins they never came out after waiting forever we decided we didn't want the scallops Waitress was never around nor did she seem to care. We had to constantly ask other Waiters for service. After being completely unsatisfied they took off the seafood combo, and the scallops but charged us for the salad and the vegetable that was supposed to come with the meal as a insult . we were six people in our party and no one was happy on top of it was mother's day.. Wish we made other choices. On a positive note the scallops I had were OK.

Update I called to complain to the Manager but the drunk bartender got on the phone. Jessica tells me that there is no owner and she is the General Manager. I guess she forgot that she told me her boss was coming before she drank the shot of Jack Daniels fire. Then she tells me that I better never step foot or call this restaurant again. If. Management reads this check the levels on Jack Daniels fire since CE it's the Drunk Bartenders drink of choice.

Ok so I grew up in this town and I was so excited to go to this place and my sister Maria used to take me all the time, well it was just Gross. Ordered the fresh flounder, not so much fresh and attempted to have corn in the cob..out, attempted to order a few other items and they were out. So unmemorable that I forgot what I ordered and they said they did not have. Clam chowder...I think it was progresso can brand. The server, seriously... Totally disappointed! And horrified my bill was 100 bucks for my sister, mother and I...

Had dinner on a Wednesday. Not good. I would not get fish here unless it's fried fish. Also bring your own sour cream if you like it on potatoes. Ours smelled. Staff does not seem concerned either.

Ouch. Local seafood is the ahi tuna? Um, no. Pretty gross overall. Fried oysters looked like chicken fingers but tasted much worse. Would not recommend.

I can't believe that anyone would give this place anything but a four star. A great place for seafood. Don't come here if you want steak or Italian!! IT IS A SEAFOOD PLACE. The pan fried haddock was so yummy. I always get the grilled veggies. They have a great rasberrie sauce on them. Wonderful. Service is always friendly and drinks are good. What else do you want???

First of all, this was SO worth the drive from DC. Second, do not be mislead by the outside, which looks a little like a converted Taco Johns. Inside you will find white covered tables, professional waitstaff and incredibly fresh fish, at a very reasonable price. With that out of the way, we must first tip our hat to Callee, one of the best waitresses we have ever had, coast to coast. Truly, Callee, you are one of the reasons this will be one highlight of our trip to the East Coast. We could not decide on which of the fresh fish offerings, so we just got a little of darned near everything. We started with steamed (huge) shrimp and creamed corn balls. Note: if you're not a fan of Old Bay, tell them not to put it on the peel and eat shrimp. We also ordered an entree, the jumbo fried platter, with an order of soft shelled crab. This made the meal go like this: clam chowder, followed by shrimp and corn balls, served with butter, honey, and red sauce. Then the entrees. Then, just 'cause we could, we ended with a chocolate mousse cheesecake. Then, we waddled back to the car, took a picture of the speedway behind the restaurant, and headed back to DC, by way of the Bay Bridge.

Driving on a long trip we thought it would be a good stop. Our waitress was really friendly and eager to please but her knowledge of the food or the preparation needs training. We were looking to order fresh fish so I asked for tuna either grilled or pan seared. She said with tuna my options were from rare to well done. She wasn't trained in the cooking styles listed on the menu (grilled, pan seared or baked) , we chuckled and figured how bad could it be? So I said a, ok medium, (the chef will do it right.....) She came back to say oops we're out of tuna and the other three types she mentioned earlier . So I chose mahi mahi ($20) and my wife chose mahi sandwich. She said"oh yea we have that it came in a few weeks ago". Once again we chuckled as I thought she must of meant they just started serving it then. When the food came out it looked as bad as it tasted. No flavor, obviously frozen (retaining water) and a huge disappointment. My wife couldn't bear to eat the sandwich, so we sent it back. She said she'd need her managers approval, which she got (manager never visited our table and was nowhere to be found). She said we would have to pay for the fries though ( yea, cold steak fries yum). After she picked up our crime scene cuisine, she said "well how about some dessert"?! I thought we were being punked at this point. The one saving grace was the shrimp and corn chowder soup, that was delicious with my barely cold draft beer. Food network needs to come here and train this establishment.

Not bad, not good. For being so close to the ocean, I would have thought the seafood would be a little better. I ordered the grilled shrimp and scallops. The scallops were succulent and delicious. The shrimp were rubbery and overcooked. The atmosphere is definitely geared to an older crowd.

Service was good, but food was not good. Had fried shrimp and scallop basket with fries.

Reasonably priced seafood with decent portions but no real "wow" factor. I'd recommend going here when you're craving seafood in a casual environment. The jumbo shrimp were a nice size and had a nice crust but one of my shrimp still had a nasty vein I had to remove. I enjoyed my baked potato on the side (after smothering it with butter and sour cream of course) and the snow crab cluster hit the spot. Not bad for a $20 meal!

I'm surprised at the food comments from negative reviewers. I think you get a lot of good seafood for the money. There's a very extensive mixed seafood platter that can be shared and the portions and quality were really excellent. I got stuffed shrimp which was nicely presented and the stuffing was 95% crab meat. The soups are excellent - Manhattan clam chowder and crab chowder. Finally we got a few desserts, again large portions and very tasty: especially the strawberry cheesecake. All this positive feedback from very picky eaters btw.

I was in town for Firefly, and the restaurant we wanted to go to was closed due to the event so we went here instead. The inside is very generic--white tablecloth tables and banquet hall chairs. The place is very senior citizenesque with tiny vases stuffed with flowers and American flags. Except no seniors here; just my sister and I for the 2 hours we sat in there for lunch. The bar was somewhat lively, but the people there were pretty drunk. Service was prompt. We ordered the corn balls and hush puppies as an appetizer and they were good. I ordered a soft shell crab sandwich with fries. My sister had the crab-topped salad. My food was terrible. The crab had a mushy yellow substance inside, and my fries glistened with oil. I developed a terrible stomachache and only ate half of my meal. Not that I planned on going back here, but I definitely say avoid this restaurant as you can get better seafood somewhere else in the area.

Have eaten here several times while some of the food tasted good much appeared to be frozen and the last two visits I was sick shortly after. Will not return.

It was okay, good selection of seafood. Fresh and priced okay. Not much else on the menu if you are someone who doesn't eat seafood.

Great local restaurant. My hubby & I frequent this restaurant at least once a week. The good is always fresh, and the wait staff is always friendly. Recently had the crab stuffed mushrooms. They are a MUST eat appetizer. They were FULL of crab meat. I are them all!!!! My hubby loves the calamari. We have enjoyed most of the food on the menu & recommend anything on the menu.

We have been here a few times and the service is typically great and the food is even better. My favorite has got to be the creamed crab soup! It was so delish...thanks to our awesome server for her recommendation on it!

Shuckers was an excellent place to have a seafood dinner when they initially opened. My most recent visit was disappointing. I didn't want to believe the 3 star average on Yelp. However, with poor service, really poor service, and dinner that took over 30 minutes to arrive, I was truly disappointed. One of my dinner pals left the whole piece of flounder (huge) on the plate along with the friend shrimp. He said it was tasteless and it was quite unusual for a man of his stature to leave food on the plate. I ordered a mini-plate of Ravioli stuffed with Maryland Blue Claw Crab Meat. I received a really small portion however, it was enough for me to eat in one sitting. I think the $8.95 price tab for this meal was a bit much (see photo). It is unfortunate that Shuckers has come to this point. I will certainly NOT visit on my next trip. I will NOT visit until I see at least 4 stars from Yelp. This will indicate a better environment for the seafood lover. Note: I ordered a Flounder sandwich to go for Mom and she was quite content. She is a Flounder lover and I am pleased to say that her spirits were not dampened by my experience at the restaurant.

Visited Shuckers with my family, since we had purchased a gift card online. I'm glad we did. The food was amazing, the waitress was super sweet and extremely helpful. We were looking for a particular dish that wasnt on the menu - and she went out of her way to ensure that we would be able to have it. we will absolutely be back again!

I'll give them 2 stars for having cold beer and for my food being decent, but I would not return here. My colleague got shrimp and scallops. Pricey and only came with 3 average scallops and 3 undersized shrimp. Shrimp was rubbery and she only took one bite. I had chicken pasta. Pasta and sauce wasn't too bad, but chicken was dry. There has to be better places to dine around here.

In the past, Shuckers has always had wonderful seafood entrees to choose from and by far the freshest seafood in the Dover area, but I have noticed something that stands out from all the others around. After being seated for dinner we were greeted so kindly by a wonderful waitress -- Shannon. After she introduced herself she presented us with two bite size samples of Fresh Swordfish...Im thinking BONUS!! FREE!?!?!!! Absolutely delicious!!! Yep She had me sold..... I ate every last bit on my plate thats for sure.... I couldnt believe how perfect the Sword was. Anyway my point is that if The waitress hadnt brought us the samples at the beginning we probably would have never chosen the Swordfish for dinner. Their opening intro is unique and smart unlike all these other chain restaurants out there. I also noticed that the owner invested in new dining booths and had new hard floors put in as well. He had to of spent some $$$$$$ for real because I'm saying these booths are customized and designed like something you would see in a magazine! The changes made have set Shuckers at another level.. Its all good too!!! All I'm saying is that if you want to be like " WoW" then the next time you eat out go check out Shuckers believe me you will be glad you did! One last thing ... Get dessert ... I got 2 togo and they are BIG too!! Carrot cheesecake is Bomb!!!! Yummmm!... ... Enjoy yourself.

Poor service, server got order wrong for my soup, main course and side. And, really not busy at lunch today. Annoying. Fried mmi seafood platter took at while.....but scallops were cooked perfectly. Chowder was just ok and could have been hotter. If you like fried seafood and aren't in a hurry place is ok

This was my grandfather's favorite sea food place for most of the 30 years the place has been open. My grandmother loved the flounder. This trip, neither could be with us, so in their memory, my brother and I threw down on fried seafood. The hush puppies are awesome, the shrimp was well done, the scallops melted on the tongue and the fish was moist and flaky. They updated the decor since last I was in there. Gave it a more finished feel, tho the cheap chairs and tables displayed the rough and tumble fried food flair.

  • Mireya I.

Actually we go to this restaurant often. I always go for the "slightly juicy fried haddock or cod". We realize the place is dated, but the fish is so good, we dont care what the place looks like. We always had friendly and prompt customer service. Have taken guests several times, and they have all been pleased.

    (4)
  • Holli F.

It is mostly fried seafood. Our waitress even discouraged us from getting our selections baked. They do pan fry in olive oil for a (slightly) healthier option. The fish was very fresh and yummy and plated very (unexpectedly) creative. The veggie skewer was DELISH! I wanted to trade my fish for veggies they were that good! We were dining in the company of a very crusty (and caustic) regular. I'm sure if you're not blessed with his barking every time you turn around that you'll have a better meal than we did.
