Forget the multiple fake Mexican tolteca tonaltecas in Delaware. This place is legit. Delicious. Authentic. And the staff is very nice. They have horchata and taco de lengua. I'm in heaven.

Fantastic hole in the wall. Just a few sets of seats, but was pretty empty. I got the lengua (tongue) burrito. The burrito was done american style with lettuce and yellow cheese... this and/or something else kinda over-road the flavor of the lengua. Don't get me wrong, it was still yummy... next time, I would get lengua in taco form to better savor the meat, and suggest you do the same. Also got the al pasto taco, which was incredible. Very yummy meat. If I recall correctly, the only other two meats are chicken and steak. Wish they had a few of the other offals you see at other mexican joints. You can beat these prices. They also sell pepsi made with sugar (no high fructose). That went very well with the meal.

Easily the best Mexican restaurant on the Delmarva peninsula. It's the little touches that made it worth the drive. Moist rice that actually tastes good, beans that are not overcooked, steamed corn tortillas, quick grill on the outside tortilla of the tacos, tender beef, and mole done just right. Craving authentic flavor? This is worth the pit stop.

I've eaten here with people from my squadron a couple of times. Loved it! I'm from Texas so I like to have hispanic food every now and then. I really hope this place flourishes, because it really is good!

Si Bueno is all I have to say! Delicioso. All ingredients fresh and savory. Highly recommend. Had the tacos azada and just as good as back home.

After La Tonalteca, I had my doubts about Mexican food in Dover, but looking at the photo of El Nopal's tacos should tell you all you need to know about the kind of Mexican food they're serving. For starters, the menu is primarily in Spanish, and they include translations for those who can't figure out what 'frijoles' and 'arroz' are. Not that you should order either of those things, because all you need are tacos. Four of them will set you pretty well, and with there only being four main proteins on offer, this works out pretty well. They ask you if you want your tacos Mexican style or American style, and if you don't know the correct way to answer that question, then I can't help you. Between the carne asada, lengua, pollo, and al pastor, the meats were not without their faults, but given their competition in the neighborhood, I'm not looking to split hairs here.

This place was alight. Nothing to write home about. I'm from Cali and my expectation for Mexican food is higher than most, but their tamales were merely okay, their rice was too dry and the beans were just, okay. I have a carne asada burrito and was so upset when I saw it yellow shredded cheese, Mexicans don't use that stuff. Either way, I prefer Bibi's taqueria in Milford!

Just moved to DE from San Antonio, TX and was having difficulty finding a decent Mexican restaurant. El Nopal is a diamond in the rough! We had the pork and chicken tacos (on corn tortillas! FINALLY!) as well as the camarones plate. You have to get the tacos "Mexican style" with cilantro and onions. The meat was excellent and flavorful. If you're looking for homestyle Mexican food, this is your place.

The only good Mexican place in Dover. As any standard to judge by, I enthusiastically approve the tacos served at El Nopal. Mexican style is the way to go, and between the pork and steak I preferred the steak (called "asada") which was finely chopped, marinated and tasty. The cilantro wasn't overwhelming, and the salsas that came with the plate complimented them both quite well. While the fridge offers a relatively limited selection of American soft drinks, I liked that their full selection is glass-bottle meaning they are probably made with real sugar instead of corn syrup as sweetener. I selected the guava "soda" which turned out to be more of a juice, but incredibly different and delicious- definitely recommend.

I was so excited to try this place and was very disappointed. Everyone was raving about the tacos. Since I am not a big fan of all that cilantro, I decided to order my tacos "american style". The ingredients were very fresh and plentiful for the price, which is impressive, but the food lacked real flavor. Also, I was very disappointed in their refried beans. This is one of my favorites....I like to eat them with/on everything. They were horrible. Again, no flavor. I added some salt and sour cream and it improved them but the texture was almost like soup....they were very runny. I believe in giving second chances so the next time I am craving mexican, I will try them again. Any recommendations from anyone?

Best Mexican food in Dover. Authentic. More of a lunch place than an evening dining out experience.

Way better than the chain mexican restraunts in town!! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone wanting some real mexican food. It does look really sketchy on the outside but has really good mexican food so don't let that deter you!

I LOVE this place. I talk my husband into stopping here practically every time we're in Dover. It's not a hard sell. I've sampled all over the menu, and everything is delicious, but the tacos have stolen my heart. I'm theirs. We belong together. For starters, there are 2 corn tortillas per taco. Soft tortillas, too. This makes the tacos way less likely to split in two, spilling out the filling. Win. And the meat is wonderfully seasoned and tender. Double win. Chicken, pork, steak, you can't go wrong choosing your protein. But my personal favorite is the beef tongue. It's the most tender and flavorful. Finally, they're topped with cilantro and onion and your choice of red or green salsa (there's no wrong choice here, either). They're full of bright, hot, and awesome flavor. But if onions and cilantro aren't your thing, El Nopal doesn't judge. You can order your tacos "American style" and you'll get lettuce and cheese on top instead. So the anti-cilantro crowd shouldn't have anything to complain about. The other thing worth trying is the steak torta. It's this sandwich with avocado and jalapenos. A delicious and filling lunch.

Amazing tacos and tamales. We got the Mexican version of the tacos but they also have an "American" version. I would love to come back and try everything on the menu. A very nice woman helped us and the food was made quickly. Can't beat the great prices.

After reading reviews I had to come taste. Being a cali girl I love burritos. Since moving here to dover I haven't had anything close to home. This place came close and was good. Great atmosphere. The burrito I ordered was good and had good flavor. I will definitely be a return customer.

Easily the most authentic Mexican restaurant in town. The fajitas are excellent, but my favorite are the tacos de lingua. Muy delicioso!

I chose a Mexican restaurant for this meal, because I was craving a margarita. Unfortunately, this place doesn't offer margaritas. However, the food turned out to be wonderful. I tried three different tacos: chicken, pork, and steak (all Mexican style). All were excellent. Chicken was my favorite. I also ordered a tamale, and it was the best one I've found north of Texas.

By far the best Mexican food I have ever had. 100% authentic home cooked food. I had a steak burrito that was absolutely amazing. I also had a tamales that was so so good.....oh and the homemade salsa.....I could have ate just a bowl of that and been happy. Highly recommend.

Excellent authentic tacos at very reasonable prices. I had the chicken tacos (Mexican style) and they were excellent. Could have lived without the rice and beans (refried beans and yellow rice). Free chips and salsa with my sit-down meal. Atmosphere very basic but clean and comfortable. Plenty off-street parking. I was there at an odd time - 3pm on a weekday - so it was super quiet. Quick service, very nice staff. Would def go back on my next trip through Dover.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
