Don't know why my original review was filtered. Went back this last weekend to see if the horrible musty smell had been remedied. The smell was less pronounced but still there. The doors to the former bar, now banquet room were closed. I suspect most of the smell comes from this room. We decided to stay for breakfast. We are longtime customers of their West Colfax location and have always had good meals there. Me and another in our party ordered the chili relleno breakfast which was very good but later in the day I suffered severe cramps and diarrhea. The other person in our party who ordered the same thing had the same symptoms so I suspect we got sick from the green chili and chili rellenos. I will never go back there but will still go to the W. Colfax location. Even if I hadn't got sick, the smell is a deal breaker for me.

I have to say, I did not notice any smell. Other than, maybe, french fries. The place, what I saw of it, was clean and well maintained. A little boring, really, without the charm of the Colfax location. They need some tchockes or something. But, that will come, I'm sure. The tables, at least, give you more room than at Colfax. I met my friend for lunch there on a Thursday. I was having a craving for diner food. Specifically, liver and onions. I know, I know. What can I say? I like it! The place was moderately busy - all the booths were full. The servers were friendly and competent. I had coffee and it was never empty. I didn't even notice it being filled - that kind of quiet, hard working attentiveness is hard not to appreciate. The food is diner food, what else can you say? But, it's served up hot and cooked really well. My friend had a grilled cheese and fries, which begged for a cup of tomato soup. (Their choices that day were vegetable beef or chicken noodle). I of course had the liver. It was done absolutely perfectly. The potatoes, which I expected to be from flakes, were homemade and delicious. The onions were perfectly charred. My salad was meh, but it's a diner side salad, not much to be expected. The lettuce was fresh, anyway! I got soup or salad, my entree, and a nice soft roll for $7.75. What's not to like? Lunch and tea/coffee for both of us was $16.00 and change. I don't know if they serve alcohol or not. I wish they did, because this would be a nice place to have "brunch" - by that I mean the meal that you have around noon on a Saturday because you slept through breakfast. But I'll be back with kids, because their menu is priced just right. If you have a senior citizen in your life, they will probably enjoy a lunch out here.

So happy that they moved to this location. They closed the location on 44th near Ward Road and opened this one. Which I think is much better as I never like the hotel that location was housed in. I went on a Sunday morning not too long after they opened and the place was packed! Only had to wait about 10 minutes to get a table so not too bad... Waited about 30 minutes for the food to come to the table after ordering but that reasonable considering how busy they were. Just like the the other Davie's on Colfax the food is pretty good. I had the Chicken Fried Steak which was awesome. I have to say that the wait staff really work hard! They are constantly running orders and filling up drinks. Nothing fancy just great diner food at reasonable prices. I heard some people complaining about the wait time but what do you expect during one their busiest days of the week. Ever gone to an Olive Garden or Red Lobster at 6PM on a Friday night?? You may have to wait a few minutes if you want to go here on sat or sun morning but it's worth it!

Most of the food is ok but the cooks need to cook the food the way it is ordered. the last time i was in there I had steak and eggs.I wanted the steak med. well and the eggs over med. That means just a little pink in the steak and the whites fully cooked on the eggs. I got med rare on the steak and pockets of slime in the whites.

If I could give less than one star then I absolutely would. When we first started coming to this Davies we really enjoyed the food and service was "okay", at least the food made up for that aspect most of the time. Unfortunately, the last few times we have come in, we are acknowledged SEVERAL times ('I'll be right with you", "I'll be right back", etc.) yet we sit there and we sit there, whilst every other table around us is getting their orders taken, food delivered, checked on, etc. Now don't get me wrong, I understand on weekends places like this tend to get very busy and it's often difficult to split your time between all of your tables, but when I watch you *saunter* around, no knees to chest, it doesn't really give me the impression you are on your "A-Game" and really TRYING to accommodate your tables. I understand being a waitress has its difficulties but in the same breath, if you can't handle it, then don't choose that as your job... This last time we went in (this morning) our service was TERRIBLE. We have gotten the same exact waitress (short, stout, mousy hair, missing teeth), and every time, without fail, our service is SHIT. Our toast was brought out long before the meal, thus meaning, cold toast to eat with breakfast. My husband's steak and eggs were sub-par AT BEST. Dry and fatty, not cooked correctly, disgusting eggs, and the wrong type of toast. We've learned we don't send food back here because it will take AGES to get back and I don't trust that my food won't be messed with while back in the kitchen. So yes, our waitress got 'stiffed' on a tip because contrary to popular belief, you have to earn them. She is lucky I didn't walk out without paying for the meal because it was that terrible. Third time is a charm, three visits in a row getting horrid service, I will NOT be back. I will take my business to the Davies on Colfax, they seem to have their shit together.

This is a well-kept secret. Best soups in town, food like your mother or grandma made at home, great service . Bonus: good live music on Fridays at the bar downstairs (a separate venture).
