Restaurant Zen - If a waiter drops a tray in an empty restaurant, does someone applaud and make a wise crack? I was beginning to think I would never find decent sushi in my neighborhood, but I'm glad I persevered in my search. I definitely could've done without the iceberg lettuce they called a salad, but the miso soup was great. I especially liked the seaweed. The sushi was fresh, and well prepared by my standards. The service was friendly in an amateur way (unorganized and apologetic) but not bad. It was a nice little place full to the brim.

The restaurant is pretty nice. Love the set up and the mood it provides. Sushi-wise, it's decent. I come from San Francisco so I have very high expectations when it comes to sushi but come on, we're in Colorado. It'll do. I always get the Crispy Chicken here. BIG BIG amounts and I love that. If you have a craving for asian food, this is the place to go! =)

Our staple Asian place. We love it especially because it's just a short walk from our apartment. I've never had a bad meal here. The food presentation is beautiful. Service is always good, and the building is clean and trendy. Favorite dishes include: vegetable tempura, spring rolls, sesame tofu, avocado sushi, and those cool little Chinese ice cream balls.

Love this place for sushi, take out and delivery!! My wife and i always find Zen a good value and the staff is crazy nice. Every dinner entree is a huge portion, try the Drunken Noodles w/tofu for delivery. It's a 2 person dish!

Yum! We ordered take out from here tonight. We got the chicken fried rice, the Vietnamese egg rolls and a Vietnamese chicken and rice bowl. The veggies were fresh, the chicken tender. Will do again

I am very particular about sushi, and Zen went above and beyond my expectations! The Zen Delight was phenomenal and the sashimi was top notch. The decor of the space is modern and colorful. The service was also very good. My overall impression was definitely positive and I would be happy to drive to Westminster from Denver any day for some good sushi. Thumbs up!

In an area full of asian cuisine, this place is one of the best. Their sushi is not exceptional, but they do have a few very good dishes that make up for it. My favorite is the "calamari of the east" and the "spicy fish". An excellent value.

Usually, I'm wary of restaurants that claim too much. I like 'sushi' places to just do sushi and be great at it, instead of serving sushi, thai, pho, pizza, and burritos for example. Therefore I hoped that Zen Asian Bistro & Sushi did good sushi, since I was craving a sushi meal. I can't speak for the Thai food offerings on the menu, but the sushi is pretty good and came out beautifully arranged on an giant wooden serving boat (featuring a cute little rudder that wiggles around). The Valentine Maki is my favorite. A fresh mix of tuna, yellow tail, and salmon on the inside and tasty mix of 4 kinds of colorful tobiko on the outside. The Rainbow Maki with tuna, red snapper, and salmon was equally fresh and tasty. The Caterpillar Roll was disappointing in that the inside was filled with imitation crab meat that wasn't doing a good job imitating. When the menu says 'crab meat,' i expect crab meat, not the red-colored fish stuff... and feel cheated when that's not the case, especially for a $10.50 roll. Now that I think about it, the Rainbow Maki probably had imitation crab on the inside of it too. Must have been mashed up and better disguised. The shrimp tempura on the inside of the Caterpillar Roll however, was hot and fresh, which totally redeemed it. We finished up with 2 small makis which were filling but otherwise unmemorable, and packed everything down with 3 cups of steaming green tea. All in all a good sushi meal. Not cheap, but not overpriced either, and extra points for a beautiful interior and good service. The owner (I can only assume) stopped by for a friendly chat and I promised her a review and a repeat visit. Overall: The sushi is good and the ambiance perfect for a girl's night out or a romantic date.

First: we've only had delivery, but have never visited the restaurant. We've sampled lots of items from the menu, from full entrees to our favorite sushi. The food is always spot on, and the orders are always correct. I've had better sushi for sure, but not from a place that delivers. I usually stick to their Thai-style foods, and they've never disappointed there. The delivery drivers are always nice and courteous, and delivery times a pretty darn fast. I would probably give them 5 stars if the sushi were a little better.

We were all satisfied with the sushi, fresh, precise.....well done!

I was really was impressed with the waitstaff (one star) I really liked the decor and cleanlieness (one star) We ordered a wide variety of rolls and sushi and all was good (one star) We also orded some of the Thai and that is where things went wrong! The panag was very sweet. The Pad thai was very sweet. The rice that was served with the panag was 'stir fried' and when I requested white rice I was charged extra!! Should have gone to Swing Thai or Sonona's.....

The only time I actually set foot in this restaurant was to pick up take out but I noticed that the restaurant was very clean and vibrant. I remember that the staff was quite friendly and even offered my girlfriend and I water and edamame. On the other hand, I have frequently ordered delivery from Zen. I LOVE the fact that you can order delivery sushi that's good. Although the nigiri menu isn't extensive, there's a large amount of rolls to choice from. They have a great kitchen menu. I recommend the tonkatsu, the soups, chicken satay, and szechaun beef. Affordable prices and did I mention they deliver sushi? I will continue to order from Zen when I am lazy and wanting sushi

Very good place to have sushi and fried rice. Decently priced. Nice atmosphere.

I find sometimes when dining alone you get forgotten about or are a second thought by waitstaff. This was my experience at Zen. The service wasn't awful...but I spent a great deal of time reminding them I was there. I was a bit annoyed and bummed out by this. The food was okay. I had the jalapeno beef it came with white rice and a salad the kind you typically get with Asian food - ice-burg lettuce and that same melon colored dressing. The jalapeno beef wasn't very spicy, but I have pretty high standards. The plus was that is wasn't filled with what I call Chinese food filler (water chestnuts, bamboo shoots, baby corn) and that made me happy. Did I mention I hate ice-burg lettuce- it has no nutritional value. I would rather drink another glass of water. Why can't we have real greens in our salad people? Perhaps a conversation for later? Anyway, I would like to come back to Zen for some sushi. The description of the rolls looked good, but this time I won't be dining alone.

Consistently good, nice menu selection. (Thai BBQ chicken is my favorite.) Portions are HUGE, but luckily I have a husband who always makes short work of the leftovers.

I have had dinner here a number of times with my family. The food is quite good especially the sushi. I'll be back.

Zen is located near the Chicago style row home community at Bradburn and 120th. Those narrow school bus shaped town homes don't fit in with anything within miles. They kinda stick out in an odd way in the empty landscape between Sheridan and Federal. Why anyone would want to live in such small quarters in wide open Colorado is beyond me, but whatever. Back to the review. I'm a on sushi diet of late. The warm miso soup and fresh fish warms my soul when it's 20 degrees outside. I love the modern atmosphere at Zen, it's well designed and laid out. If you are into ambiance, this place will definitely satisfy. Their spicy tuna is excellent. I also like their spicy shrimp roll. They don't do a very good job with their spider roll (soft shelled crab) but it's OK. What these guys do excel at is customer service. And for that very reason, in a town with an abundance of sushi places, I will keep going to Zen. (Well at least when I'm in the neighborhood...)

This sushi restaurant is the best of all the sushi restaurants we have gone to (probably 8) in the Denver Metro Area. The cuts of sashimi and sushi are fresh and not thin, not thick, just right. The specials are incredible but can be a tiny bit pricey. The service is excellent, the prices are more reasonable than any sushi restaurant we have been to 7+ years. They have a great selection of cooked food as well as a well stocked bar with unusual beer. Once you try it you will never want to go elsewhere! The owner is there most nights to be sure his customers are treated well every time.

I have to take a minute to address comments of the previous reviewer. I have lived in Bradburn and I have to say that what we lack in 'wide open spaces' we more than make up for in an incredibly close knit community. Bradburn doesn't fit in with anything within miles because it isn't beige, sorry if that bothers you. The empty landscape between Sheridan and Federal is what's known as 'open space', there is a protected wildlife area bordering bradburn. Try finding out a bit more about a place before you just dis it. There are tons of apartments and condos outside of Bradburn, all of those people living in Colorado and in close spaces. Not every Coloradan is born with the desire (or financial ability) to live on a ranch with unimpeded views of the rockies. That's like saying everyone in Colorado skis and lives in the mountains, come on. Anyway, about the actual restaurant, (which is the point right?) it's a nice place. I haven't tried the sushi, but the thai beef salad is decent and the chicken satay is actually quite good. We used to frequent ZO sushi (formerly siamese plate on the go) and zen's satay is better. The edamame we ordered did suck, overcooked, maybe it was just that once but I won't be ordering it from there again. Try Zen and give Bradburn a second look, it rocks.

We visited on a Saturday evening and found it to be a nicely bustling place. Grandma joined us for dinner and is a Pad Thai aficionado that walked away satisfied. My wife tried out the Chicken Peanut Curry (?). I had Thai Curry Noodles and a couple different sushi items (the sushi was just okay... but I have high standards in this area having lived in the Bay Area). All the portions were large (several take home boxes), hot and pretty tasty, but not outstanding. Because of the whole "fusion" thing going on there (i.e. you can get Thai, Japanese, Chinese... even some Vietnamese), the quality suffers a little as there's no real specialization. Still, the food wasn't bad, the menu has something for everyone (provided everyone at least likes some sort of Asian cuisine), the service pretty good and the prices reasonable: ~$100 w/ tip & drinks for 3 adults and 2 young kids. They also have a bar where you can kick back with a big Sapporo or Kirin and watch the sushi chefs do their thing. So, my 4 stars rating is a function of relative value vs a score on an absolute scale. This place felt like a good deal and everyone had fun. Re: the comments of other reviewers on the location, personally, I think the Bradburn neighborhood is kind of charming. I don't live there, but I imagine it offers a little urban lifestyle with suburban convenience. Mostly we like to go to the restaurants for a change of pace from other local spots like FlatIron Crossing when we're not in the mood to drive to Denver or Boulder.

Had a craving for curry fried rice. They have thai fried rice on their menu but it wasn't what I am familiar with. There was barely any curry on it and it had not been fried. Crab cheese wontons were delish and had a yummy sake martini. Will give it another shot. Sometimes you just have to find a favorite item on the menu.

This place is good. I have had the sushi, sashimi, and a couple of the main dishes. The sushi isnt the best but its still pretty good. The wait staff is really nice. The ambiance is between romantic and relaxing. Their lunch menu is much cheaper than their dinner so I'd recommend going then for the same quality at a smaller price.

This is *really* good sushi. I've been traveling to California and Florida a lot this year and had sushi from several well-rated coastal spots and Zen still beats them hands down. I highly recommend the salmon, white tuna, unagi, and yellowtail if you're eating nigiri sushi. They have lots of excellent rolls as well. The wait staff is friendly and prompt. Keep up the good work Zen!

i enjoyed this place. i'm happy that its in my hood. my gf described it best when she said "its sushi". its not the best that ive had but when i'm not willing to drive to denver and shell out big cash or what have you, its a perfect stand in. the two of us ran up a bill of $50 with appetizer, saki, 4 rolls and an order of sushi. to me this seems pretty affordable (for sushi)

I admit it, I am a food SNOB!!!! I have lived in Phoenix and Portland, OR where there are many more ethnic restaurants to choose from. I moved here and I am highly disappointed in the food. Mainly the flavor or lack of. As some of you Yelpers know I'm on a quest to find the best of the best food from all ethnicities. Here is my favorite so far for Thai food in Broomfield/Westminster. They offer other Asian dishes too but my husband and I were on a mission for Thai this time. NOTE: I am not a sushi fan so I can't help you there. Also, I usually like to try out their take out first, but I go pick it up. 2 reasons: The place might be really crowded with screaming kids and I like to check out the ambiance/cleanliness before I commit. I called in an order of Pad Thai, Basil Chicken, Thai Shrimp Spring Rolls and Crab Rancoon (crab puffs) at 7pm on a Saturday night (another test). They also have their menu online! Another plus! The woman who answered the phone was very friendly and told me my total without me having to ask. It was $29. and some change. She told me 10-15 minutes. I arrived in 10 minutes to check out the ambiance. Very nice. The place was beautifully lit, clean, upscale-ish but not snobby. It had purple CLOTH tablecloths and it was about 90% full. In my opinion a great date spot. A very friendly waitress/hostess? greeted me immediately and my food was already done! YAY! My husband had the Basil Chicken and was impressed about the quality of the food. Said he loved it. I asked him a little later if it was as good as Thai Rama in Chandler, AZ. He said "No, nothing is as good as Thai Rama!!! But, I would rate this a 5 star for Broomfield/Westminster comparing what else is here." I agreed 100%. This isn't as good as it gets, but as good as Broomfield/Westminster gets. I would have rated this a 4 1/2 star only because I ordered the veg. Pad Thai and there were not many veggies in it but the flavor was awesome and it wasn't greasy. I will order it next time with extra bean sprouts, extra cilantro and more green onions, maybe try the chicken in it too. I tried my husband's dish and I thought it was really good. The Thai Shrimp Spring Rolls were good but lacked flavor. I would have put cilantro or mint in them. The peanut sauce was to die for though! Calvin the beagle licks his pills down with it. I keep some in the fridge for him. The crab puffs were good but nothing special, they could have had more flavor also. Maybe some finely chopped green onions and some chili powder in the cream cheese and crab mixture? In our opinion this place is better than Spring Thai where the food was good, not great and I felt I was in a library.

My husband and I have eaten at Zen a handful of times, and usually really enjoy it. The atmosphere is nice, but not pretentious. The tables are pretty close together, but other than that, it has a fun ambiance. The food was always very good. Not the best sushi I've ever had, but pretty darn good. We hadn't eaten there in about a year, and recently decided to order some takeout. We were horribly disappointed. We didn't order any of the specialty rolls this time. I am pregnant so I could only order the cooked stuff, but I still expected it to taste good. Unfortunately, the sushi had little to no flavor and tasted and looked like something you might pick up out of the deli case at the grocery store. On the other hand, the service was great and they had it ready for us really quickly. Needless to say, we will think twice about trying this place again.

Zen had a very good atmosphere that was cozy and intimate while at the same time being trendy. Though with that being said I think the food was bad and I feel it was overpriced, the Sushi was decent and filling for being American style Sushi, which is to say that it is heavy and that it had spicey mayo. However the main courses were not so good and were bland. I try to say this without relish, as my girlfriend and her companions have enjoyed Zen's Sushi previous to my visit with her. The main courses were without flavor my Udon noodle stir fry was not that good it lacked flavor and it tasted very plain. My girlfriend's Thai soup was salty though at the time I discounted it as she can be picky. Though she is a Thai national and she should know. All in all it seemed as if Zen was all style and no substance as the chef's knowledge of Thai and east Asian cuisine seemed to rudimentary at best. The sad thing is that with better food it could be a great place.

I only been there one time and all i got to say is that the food is pretty good not great but good and well decorative which i thought that was intriguing . The price cannot be argue and is not that pricy at all which that was surprising because a lot of sushi places are kind of pricy. One thing i like about this restaurant is that not only that they serve sushi but they also serve other type of food as well like, Thai and Chinese which that is all i know I am not sure what other food they serve. their sushi are pretty good which i enjoyed it but their other foods i only order their sesame chicken which it was alright as the sesame chicken the food itself but the decorating of it was pretty nice. the waiter was pretty nice, he checked up on us from time to time to see if we need anything else. About the restaurant, i really like the theme of the restaurant when you walk in you have this relaxing and quiet feeling inside you and the restaurant decorating is pretty nice.

I've only eaten there twice- well, dined in once and ordered sushi to go once. Food was great, service was polite and prompt. Bonus points for being the only sushi place in town with delivery to Thornton!

  • Catherine P.

Ordered delivery on a Friday night at 7, delivery took appx an hour, which was appropriate and expected. We got the cream cheese wontons which had plenty of chive and cheese flavor, and weren't too greasy. The chicken satay with peanut sauce was even better! A good amount of chicken for an appetizer. Flavored with lime and tumerac, it wasn't spicy at all. Entrees were pad thai, more sweet than spicy. We weighed the food, over 2 pounds of noodles! If you order off grubhub, they have coupons for free food once X amount of money is spent. We were pleased with the quality of the food, and will definitely try more off the menu.

Not a bad little place. I really like how close it is to home. The sushi was average. It was good, don't get me wrong, but nothing stood out as "great" to me. No appetizers were given. Most sushi places I've been too start customers off with a complimentary small Japanese salad or something else, not this place. The customer service was great, our waitress was very nice. The prices were average. Still too pricy to eat regularly, but no more expensive than any other sushi place. Atmosphere was nice, restaurant was very clean, and service was fast.

  • Christopher M.

Decent place to go. Had their drunken noodle dish and while not 100% correct, it has a decent mint flavor and uses good wide noodles, just a little too oily, couldnt get the noodles with my chopsticks they were so slippery oily. Tried their tempura sweet potato sushi and it was very good along with a avocado roll. Price was a little high, but its in an upscale neighborhood so its to be expected. Overall one of those places you go to when you are in the mood and area, but not really one I seek out for a quality well valued meal.

Happened upon this place after discovering our other sushi place was closed on Sundays for lunch. Clean restaurant with attentive staff. Ordered eight rolls between three of us and all agreed the price was good, the sushi was tasty and the portions of fish were generous. They also have a lunch special I would come back for that's two rolls, soup and a salad just under $9. I'll be back soon to try that out!

Came for lunch, service was ok. Sushi was meh, I went for the most expensive roll and it was far from special. Not near enough flavor and def don't get what you pay for.

  • Jessy K.

Best sushi in this neck of the woods! I also LOVE the baked green mussels (admittedly a little pricey for what you get, but I don't care - I am addicted) and the lo mein. The menu is huge and includes Thai dishes and more, but I always order the same thing. Staff is friendly, fish is always fresh and tasty, and they deliver! This is one of my go-to spots in Broomfield.

Ordered take-out from here because we wanted some sushi and this was one of the higher rated sushi joints within a reasonable distance. We got several rolls and the Thai Spring roll appetizer. The Thai Spring rolls were okay, by the time I got home and opened the bag I noticed they were split open and destroyed but they still tasted really good. I can't remember which three rolls we got, I do remember one was fried and one was regular. I am one of those picky sushi eaters and I do not like cream cheese or avocado, of course two of the rolls had something I didn't like so I requested they not put it in the roll. Unfortunately, the avocado was in one and cream cheese on the other, only reason they get four stars instead of five. I liked the little shopping area the restaurant was in and when I picked up everyone was fairly nice. I would eat from here again and would recommend.

I've been going to Zen Bistro and having them deliver to my residence since I moved to my house in Broomfield 4 years ago. They are amazing with not only their food (I recommend the Hot Lovers roll if you have never been here) but also their amazing service. They always have a smile when we walk in to the bistro and are VERY pleasant on the phone. They have never gotten our order wrong and have been fast with service both in the restaurant and bringing it to our door. So happy I found this place many moons ago. Keep up the great work guys!

  • Jess M.

The food is average and the service is meh. I've only come here for lunch and it's not memorable. They have decent lunch specials, but nothing outstanding. I've had the sushi (go to Japon down the street) and the Chinese/Thai food (go to thai basil a few miles away). It's a convenient location, but I'd rather eat at the places.

    (2)
  • Paul M.

I order from here often to get food delivered to me. They have the best sea same chicken in Broomfield by far...however more time then not they get my order wrong or forget to add a key item to my order like rice or sweat and sour sauce for the crab Rangoon. The manager is quick to correct any mistake that is made however getting rice 20 minutes after you get your meal is kind of a turn off. Delivery will take some time if you are ordering at a peak time of day. I have waited over 90 minutes before, I have just adjusted when i order leaving plenty of time for me to get hungry while I wait.

My boyfriend and I tried this place last night and must say the food is not that great. We ordered sesame chicken, udon soup, and the zen delight. The sesame chicken was over breaded and the udon soup had no flavor. The zen delight, sounded pretty delicious from the menu, however when we received the sushi dish, it had a consistency of wet cat food.. The worst $77 dollars I've spent on dinner.

I've come here a few times because of convenience and their food is decent. I really enjoyed the seafood birds nest last time and the sushi rolls are fresh and delicately made, though the spicy tuna has a bit too much mayo. I also like the Vietnamese egg rolls and their panang curry. Great date night place with nice mood lighting

My fiance and I come here as often as possible. We do not get any of the chinese food, but we always order sushi with the mussel appetizers. We have yet to have a bad experience! Staff is great, the nigiri melts in your mouth, and the special rolls are wonderful. Overall, we love it!

  • Mike M.

Every time we come here, we order too much food which means we get to have leftovers the next day! Sushi is awesome and the other menu choices are just as good. You won't be disappointed! Service has always been awesome and food always comes out fast.

This is the cream of the the crop. The deil of the ocean. The spot where I love to get RAW! Seaweed salad is nice and the Banzai roll will set the pink lady right off!!

This is my favorite sushi place ever! Being from Florida, I found it was very difficult to locate a decent sushi place in Colorado, until I came to ZEN. Mind was blown!!! The owners and chefs have always been very nice and personable. I recommend this place to people on a daily basis and will continue to do so!!!! The food is delicious!! And the presentation is even better.

Sushi was good and the service was fast. Used a groupon and came here for lunch . Ordered the rainbow and California and they were both very tasty. Price was reasonable too. Wait staff was attentive and quick to refill water. Would definitely go back.

I like this place for delivery, the dining experience is good too. They are incredibly customer service oriented, very friendly and attentive. As an Asian Fusion restaurant- their menu is quite large. I like their sushi menu best, usually get the bonzai roll, unagi roll and spicy salmon. My only suggestion for them is to expand their happy hour menu, which is pretty small compared to some of the other sushi places in the area.

Everything was very good including the service. The sushi was good and very fresh. I was not a fan of tuna sushi but I liked this one. The soup should have been served hotter and that is the only complaint. Would recommend this place and we will be back soon.

Ordered delivery via grub hub and it was great! We are about 5 miles away and I never thought they would come that far but they did!! Everything was delish. I thought the cucumber salad would of been different (I thought it had roe and masago mayo) but none the less it was good. Sushi was fresh and delivery driver was very kind. Very happy they deliver.

We ended up here with a Living Social deal. It wasn't the best sushi place we've tried up north, but at least neither of us got sick (which we both did after Taru Sushi). Food was pretty decent, and their miso was quite tasty. The service was a bit slow but wasn't bad; again, everything was pretty mediocre, middle of the road. I could see trying it again now that they have run through their Living Social rush and seeing if it improved a bit. Will update once I do.

Just received a delivery order from this place. It was our first time trying it and it was delicious! We ordered the Vietnamese Egg Roll Noodle Bowl and the Beef Drunken Noodles. The Egg Roll bowl was great!! Very authentic and great portion size. The texture of the egg rolls were lighter than traditional won ton wrapped egg rolls. The vegetables were crisp and fresh. The Drunken Noodle dish was equally awesome. The beef was tender and of good quality. The sauce was yummy, and the noodles were dressed with just enough sauce but not swimming in it. The portion size was huge as well! Overall, I think this will be our go to regular Asian take out place. So happy we found this place so close to our apartment!

Good food! Great service. I can't complain. As it gets warmer now, I have the sudden urge for fresh fish! I do travel very far just to come to this restaurant. If I lived a little bit closer, I would probably order delivery everyday and eat my sushi by the community pool.

We used to love this place, sent all of my friends there. Decor is awesome, food is good and esthetically pleasing unless order delivery, food was always bad when we had it delivered. But the last time we went, there was a hair in one of our dishes and the waiter accused us with his eyes of planting it there before reluctantly replacing the meal. No apology or anything. We didn'twant it for free or anything, just replaced. (We did still pay for it) We used to live right there so we would go all of the time, never recognized as regular customers though which for me is kind of a let down. We now go to east moon Asian bistro instead!

3.5 stars - This was our third visit. Haven't had sushi here yet, so my experience is based on entrees. I don't drink. The food is good, the ambiance good as well. Good prices. Acoustics slightly troubled by warehouse style ceiling. The only thing this place is missing is a "cozy feeling", YMMV

So the menu is kinda weird. They do all sorts of asian food including; sushi, chinese, some thai, and some vietnamese. Some people may really enjoy those options, but I like a sushi place that does SUSHI. The spring rolls were fantastic, the best I've ever had. The sushi fell a bit short. The flavor combinations didn't really work for me and there was something texturally off. They also offer no fruity sushi! Boooooooo. I love mango or papaya with my sushi. They did however give us a free dessert for my husband's bday, so that was really nice.

Decided to try a new place today for lunch delivery instead of my beloved Ooka and this was definitely not up to par...at all. We ordered steamed Shumai, a Philadelphia roll, and sesame tofu. When I opened the shumai the overwhelming smell of unwashed lettuce that they had lined the container hit me first. I tried one of the 10 dumplings and it was a textural nightmare. The container housing the Philadelphia roll had a short black hair in it and the piece I tried (after inspection for hair etc.) was ok, but we were scared to eat it for fear of freshness after I tried the shumai. The sesame tofu was the most disappointing. How do you mess up a fried food? The driver must have been doing some wild stuff because the rice in it's separate compartment was absolutely saturated in sauce. The tofu, mushy and clumped together with the watery sauce up to the brim. Each piece broke apart as I tried to separate it from the clump of tofu balls. The sauce is ok tasting, but the same viscosity as water. Certainly a waste of $20, I would advise ordering elsewhere.

I come here often! My usual faves are the curry, drunken noodles and egg rolls.

First let me start out by saying we went on Valentine's, so we weren't expecting totally stunning service - but what we experienced was definitely less-than-average for such a "hip" joint. We were seated fairly quickly, though I can't say the same for everyone else - I watched as couples and large parties crowded together at the entrance, just waiting to be seated or even acknowledged. Instead of having someone there to take down a name, eventually one of the staff would come by and ask "who was there first?" It took them over 20 minutes just to ask what we wanted to drink, and even then they forgot the waters and almost didn't let us order wine because she told us in poor english that we look too young. And then there's the food.... I've had a lot of sushi in my day, and I mean a lot - and never in my life have I had something so... mushy is the word that describes it the best. It was as if all the fish in the rolls had been tenderized to a near pulp first, so the filling would just kind of ooze out between your chopsticks. I have never seen anything like this, and for what they're charging it wasn't even very good. I could overlook the funky texture if the taste really wowed me, but I don't think we will ever be going back there. At least they had good wine and a nice atmosphere, but if you want GOOD sushi I'd head down 120th to Taru if I were you.

These people bend over backwards to keep their customers happy. I order from them all the time and they have never done me wrong. The food is fresh - even at the tail end of the day when I usually can order food. This is my goto place when I'm stuck at home and need my Asian good fix. 5 stars.

So, it's been 6 months... I finally gave in and gave Zen another try. I still love their fried Shumai. Their Seaweed Salad, served over mixed greens, is great. And their sushi is fresh. We finally tried their Thai offerings this visit. He sampled the Pad Thai with Chicken. We both enjoyed it, and we had enough to take home for a full lunch portion the next day. It's not winning any Thai-Spice contests, though, and was probably quite bland for many heat-seeking foodies out there. For my wimpy palette, though, it was just fine, slightly sweet, a fair amount of onions and omelet, and tender chicken pieces. I also had the Chirashi, which, at $18, was really skimpy, and not prepared in that "special," somewhat "Artful" way I've come to expect. It was sliced fish over rice. There were no Umami touches like Kanpyo, slivered omelet, nothin'. Just Sushi Rice and Sashimi. And while it tasted just fine, I expect more than that when I order Chirashi. (Note the conspicuous lack of photographs from me of it!) The service this time was better. We were at least greeted with smiles, although we were seated at a dirty, unset table and actually had to *ask* to move to a clean one. But, the waiter who relocated us apologized and was friendly. So, up one star you go, Zen, for having some good dishes, some great dishes, and some disappointing but still tasty dishes... and bettering your service. But watch your back -- I'll be keeping an eye on you! Keep those smiles coming.

So much to like about this little hip Asian fusion bistro, and the presentation of my eggplant was beautiful. Sadly, the vegetables were cooked to such an extent that they were mush. Even the eggplant was cooked so much that the skin was separated from the rest. 3 other folks at my table had the same experience with their veggies. The sauce was great, though, and I would definitely give it another chance. Maybe the chef was having a bad night. :)

First the good news: They deliver. The bad news: The food wasn't great. We had sushi rolls and the fish didn't seem very fresh, with a fishy taste and mushy texture. There are many better sushi restaurants in the area, in my opinion.

These guys have been a little hit-or-miss on different occasions and for different reasons. The overall quality is solid and a recent sit-down lunch experience I had was fantastic. Fresh ingredients were served in generous portions with more than enough left over for another meal at home. Their sushi also seems consistently fresh, but sometimes its prep time is inexplicably long for take-out orders. Pains are not taken towards artistic presentation, so I have not been able to figure out why the sushi chef sometimes moves like a sloth in winter, but the quality usually makes up for the wait. Non-sushi dishes are where consistency seems to break down. The food is sometimes outstanding and other times, barely average. My recommendation is to have a sit-down meal vs. take-out/delivery. The prices are just a shade on the high side, but when they perform to their potential, it is worth every penny.

If I could give no stars I would. Came over on a Tuesday evening around 6 PM. Not busy at all.... Maybe only 6 tables worth of people... 4 tables showed up after me. I waited 38 mins for 2 rolls of sushi after ordering. The waiter was nice and I know now why he gave me a free salad 2 mins after I ordered... It's cuz he knew I would have to wait a long time. The sushi rolls I ordered supposed to have crunchies in them but they both tastes soggy and not much flavor. Needless to say crunch-less. I asked the server about the 'crunch' rolls not being crunchy and he told me it was the way it is. I told him that I would recommend not to call it crunchy rolls if they can't figure out how to make the crunch rolls stay crunchy... It's false advertisement for calling it crunchy and making it soggy when other sushi places can make crunch happen. Should have known when I walked in that this sushi place DOES NOT have Japanese sushi chefs. If you want good sushi near this area try Hana Matsuri by 120th and Federal. The quality is way better and they can make their crunch rolls crunchy. Not to be biased to non-Japanese chefs but not all Asian-looking ppl can make good sushi. I have had plenty Caucasian made sushi that was awesome as well. Anyway... The only good thing about this place was the decor was nice and had nice ambiance. The waiter was pleasant... I heard the lunch menu was good and resonable but I will NEVER come back... Not to mention the fish were not very good. I don't normally give bad reviews but this place left a lasting impression of bad quality food and ridiculous slow service speed. Lame!

The only good thing going for this sushi place is that they deliver. The person answering the phone didn't know what sushi's they carried. Because when I got my order it was wrong, thank goodness I was starving and didn't care what sushi I had to eat. The portions are tiny. The spring roll looked huge, but it was stuffed with noddle. I will probably order from them again because they deliver but definitely think twice about it.

We live close by so we go once a month or so. The best items on the huge menu seem to be the Vietnamese dishes. The Grilled Pork Noodle Bowl is my favorite and the servers are always happy to serve it up with extra cilantro and "fish sauce" when asked. The sushi is ok, but Hana Matsuri up the road is better for sushi.

so out of 3 visits to this place I think i can give it a a fair 3 stars for the food being good but never great, the happy hour there but never happy.... and the service is what you should expect but not mind blowing considering its never that busy when i go in... but to be honest for being in the north metro area it is very good (as if location had something to do with it) The first time I went I had the pad thai and shushi rolls, I asked for very spicy but they fell short on that but to be fair they could have thought this white boy can handle the heat? my rolls as the other 3 times were always tightly rolled but kind of on the skimpy side maybe if they were a bit more attentive to there customers especially when there slow I could have bumped it up a star

Oh baby. I finally found a great lunch place to get my thai and sushi fix. The restaurant has a cool vibe to it and the staff was really nice. The menu has all your typical thai dishes so I had to try the pad thai. I got a huge portion despite it being lunchtime but I'm not complaining. We did try the sushi and I have to say that it was way better than I thought it would be. I could totally go there just for the sushi. The food wasn't mind blowing but Zen is a definitely a solid place to get lunch but beware the post lunch coma. They do takeout and have a full bar as well.

Lowering 1 star to 3, which is respectable. But A-OK is all I feel about this place. Would like to keep it at 4, but its just not that great.

We finally decided to check out Zen. Parking was easy, but could be tough to find a spot if the area gets busy. We were hungers, and ordered right away. We started off with a round of spicy tuna, which was pretty good. We are still giving it up to Taigun as the best in the area for sushi. I ordered Basil Shrimp and my fiance ordered the Taste of Siam. My Basil shrimp was very good and not too spicy, where the sauce didn't overpower the entire dish. Plate was piled with bok-choi, bell peppers, shrimp, their basil sauce and a side of white rice. We'll be back to try the other dishes they offer on their menu. **Changed my rating (added one star)after trying all the sushi joints in the area. **

I first ate here a little over a year ago when I moved to Westminster with a friend who loves this place. The service was excellent and the sushi was good. I have since ordered take-out twice, both times the sushi was not good, tonight being the last time I will order from here. The crispy duck, wasn't crispy and the sauce it came with was below average. The sushi was awful, I had a spicy maki roll. The fried rice was more like sticky rice and some of the pot stickers I ordered were burned. The only thing I ordered that was ok were the spring rolls and chicken lo mein. I am litterally throwing out most of the food. That is $40 down the drain. As far as service, that was disappointing as well. I had a coupon that came printed on a menu that they mailed to me this year with an expiration date of 12/31/12. I asked to use the coupon for a free order of pot stickers with a $35 purchase. Initially they said they are not circulating those coupons anymore and I could not use it. After looking at the coupon further and noticing the expiration date, I called back and asked again to use the coupon and the girl did not seem pleased but said well, you have only spent $34 so if you want to use it, you need to order more. I ordered spring rolls and they sent me burnt pot stickers for free! Good thing I didn't pay for them. She also insisted I give my menu to the driver which is fine. It seems this place has either gone down hill in the last year or maybe they are just inconsistent with food quality and service. Either way, I will not spend another dime on this asian restaurant when there are competiters nearby that never disappoint. Try East Moon in the Westminster Promenade or for less expensive delivery, J's Cafe is also good.

Still a solid 3 stars - we came on a Sunday afternoon as it's one of the few sushi places in the area that is open on Sunday. We ordered tofu spring rolls, salmon, yellowtail, and crab nigiri and a few rolls - spicy tuna, california, and pickled radish. Unfortunately the waiter forgot about our spring rolls - and once we received our platter of sushi we didn't think we needed them anymore. But he put them in a to-go container for us anyway and didn't charge for the mistake. The nigiri was very good & tender. Like butter! The spicy tuna rolls come with a mashed up sort of tuna in them and a good spice - some of the better spiciness in these types of rolls. The pickled radish roll had a nice tangy but slightly sweet flavor. I enjoyed it more than I thought. And last, but not least, was the trusty california roll - simple and tasty as always. I was most disappointed in the spring rolls - they come with a thin sheet of tofu in them, a few slivers of cucumber, and a couple of lettuce pieces and a bunch of rice noodles. It really could've used some more cucumber or carrot or radish or something... It was very quiet here when we arrived on a Sunday afternoon - just a few other tables. One sushi chef was working so it was a little bit of a wait for our food.

Absolutely the best sushi and hot and sour soup I've had in a long time... The staff was fantastic and accommodating to the fact that I dont eat raw fish, and suggested some incredible rolls. I will be going back sooner than later. Great pick!!!!

ALWAYS good! Always open no matter how queer the Colorado Winters are... My go to: Jalapeño Beef Crab Rangoon Spring Rolls Hot and Sour Soup Buy the lunch portion - same size as dinner, but cheaper!

Disappointed to say the least. The portions where good. There was almost no flavor at all, even the wasabi was tasteless. The texture was all wrong too. The fish was like a puree or paste. Disappointed... is being positive in this case.

Meh. I've experienced better, is the perfect way to describe Zen. Their prices are low which I can respect, maybe even like thus the two stars, however that is about it. After running late at work last Friday, I didn't make it to my dates house until 8pm. We had planned on going to Sushi Den, however since it was so late and we were so hungry we decided to walk a few blocks up to Bradburn Row and grab a bite here. We walked into Zen just past 8 and the place was DEAD. There was not a soul in the restaurant - honestly it was a bit creepy. It was Friday night! After making a joke and laughing, one of the servers popped his head around the corner and greeted us. 80% Of the tables were dirty and the one we were sat at was missing the table cloth and silverware. When my date ordered a beer the waiter recommended he get a bottle as they had just cleaned the taps. We ordered 4 rolls, all of which came out wrong. Yep. Wrong. To top it off, they had cut all the rolls with a knife that had wasabi on it. Yuck. We both left unsatisfied and disappointed.

Out of all of the restaurants I go to, I probably eat food from Zen the most. This isn't because it's my favorite place. It's because they deliver and the sushi is good. I work at home and I work long hours sometimes, and that means I order food to be delivered sometimes. I'm not a fan of pizza and other nastiness, but I am a fan of sushi. I call them up and they know my address from my telephone number and we're good to go. Ordering on the phone is quick and they always get it right. They say it'll be 30 to 45 minutes but it usually shows up in under 30 minutes. I also order something else to put in the refrigerator like green curry or Thai fried rice. Both dishes are also very good. Sushi in front of the TV in a half hour? You can't beat that! I've also eaten at the restaurant many times. I especially enjoy how they plate their non-sushi dishes, as does everyone else I'm with. They have a creative flair which is nice. The restaurant doesn't serve many people at a time, though, so it can get a little crowded. The service can be a bit slow, too. However, I've always enjoyed my visits there. This place is a staple for me! I've had sushi delivered from another restaurant nearby and it's not nearly as good (nor was the curry). Definitely pick up a delivery menu and give the place a try!

how this place remains in business is beyond me. the decor is nice. the staff doesnt speak any english, so when we tried to complain about the frozen solid dessert they served the waitress didnt understand... we eventually hit the dessert with a spoon a few times to show... and they gave us a frozen one to take home.. ( wow, thanks -- not.) the food wasnt great... never been back. btw if you want good sushi that delivers try ooka at 120th and Main -- they have free delivery and it's good!

Not terribly impressed. We tried an assortment of dishes and found the sushi to be surprisingly flavorless. True, we do tend to compare sushi to Sushi Sasa in Denver, but this experience would not make our top ten all time. Wife had Kung Pao chicken and it was "ok."

I went here at night with my significant other. As such, it was nearly empty. Both of us were immediately impressed by the ambiance of the place. Minimalistic yellow-orange lights hung above each table, bright enough to illuminate, dim enough to not blind. National geographic was quietly playing on a TV above a row of Sushi chefs, chatting away and making their sushi. We ordered a sushi combo meal and were served our side salads and miso soup very quickly and professionally, and our waters were always kept full. The salad and miso soup were nothing to write home about, but were definitely adequate opening acts. Our sushi came out, including spicy tuna rolls, a rainbow roll, and some eel rolls. The spicy tuna was exquisite, while the other pieces were average. However, the spicy tuna, professionalism of the wait staff, and excellent restaurant ambiance bumps this review from 3 to 4 stars. We'll definitely return.
