Great value for delicious bbq meal in Vail.

This is not a sit-down restaurant like you may think. It's actually populated by a bunch of backwoods redneck bandwagon Alabama fans. Roll tad! /sarcasm. Delicious BBQ tho.

I'm from Alabama, and what a surprise it is to find Moe's in Vail, Colorado! I didn't dine, however, because I can get this goodness just miles from my house. But, I can vouch for it. Great southern BBQ. For the authentic Alabama experience, order the pulled pork, collard greens, baked beans, and sweet tea. Finish it with the banana pudding. That will be excellent, I guarantee it!

Some of the best BBQ I've ever tasted. The ribs were perfectly tender and flavorful and the smoked wings were outstanding. All sides were great, and the cornbread is amazing. Only wish they had beer on tap, but bottled selection was good anyway. I am in vail for a few more days and plan a return trip. It's that good.

On the low end of $$ cost wise. $10 for pulled pork, 2 sides and a drink, so it's really one $ IMO. Ribs were great, pulled pork was swell. Like others have mentioned it's not southern style, so keep that in mind. Sides are amazeballs. Best mac and cheese ever - sorry mom. BBQ beans very nice with jalapeno. Grilled cornbread is whatever word is better than amazeballs. You should go.

Great value in Vail Awesome BBQ! Sides also delicious. Had Mac and cheese, collard greens, and baked beans to go with chicken and smoked turkey.

Only place in Vail that I've tried with above average food. Service was good, food arrived promptly. The hot wing sandwich was tasty but the the high amount of sauce made it a bit soggy. The baked beans were extremely tasty and I enjoyed the Mac n Cheese a lot. My friends all liked what they got. The bar looks pretty fun to hang out at too. At $10 for a meal with two sides and a soda, this seems to be the best food and deal in Lionshead.

So good and great prices. Some of the best collard greens I've had. The pulled pork was seasoned well and so juicy. For dessert I had the banana pudding with vanilla wafers. Sinfully DELICIOUS!! The service was fast and all had southern accents. I will return in my next trip to Vail

Ordered ribs with red beans and rice with macaroni & cheese. Ribs were flavorful and tender, red beans and rice were not to my standard, but the Mac and cheese had plenty of the later.

I really like this place but I was a bit let down this time. The hot link special is just blah. It shouldn't be on the menu. A good hot link is amazing, a middling hit link tastes like eckrich pre-packaged grocery store stuff. That said, the people were nice, the sauce and corn bread good, and the red beans & rice fantastic.

This is a mixed review. I had the brisket sandwich, which apparently isn't always on the menu. Big deal. It was mediocre as hell. BBQ sauce should be called weak sauce. Also, the pop wasn't carbonated. Have you ever had un-carbonated pop? It's like the worst drink ever. Easily remedied, I know, but it was un-carbonated for me so negative points must be assessed. The Mac and cheese was "meh," as was the banana pudding. All that being said, my wife LOVED her roasted turkey sandwich, black eyed peas and okra and cornbread. So that's the review. Take it as you will. Oh yea, if you're a 'Bama fan, you'll dig it. I think Moe must have been a big Crimson Tide fan because there's Alabama memorabilia all over the walls. Doesn't change my view in the food, but there you have it.

  • Chris T.

The brisket was tasty and the pork BBQ was also good. Reminded me of Texas. The sides of Baked Beans and marinated slaw were also excellent. Not fancy but decent! We would definitely recommend this for those craving a good southern style BBQ.

After a long day of snowboarding Moe's is definitely a great place to stop by for a hearty meal! We were looking for something filling and affordable and stumbled into Moe's. What I loved most was their: + Sweet tea + Chicken wings!!!! Seriously so delicious, especially with their dipping sauce + Banana or chocolate pudding. SO GOOD. + Sweet potato casserole + Their corn soup side (don't know the name of it) My only complaint is that the one day we ordered ribs it didn't come out piping hot.. it was more like room temp/luke warm :/ And I've had better ribs in Texas of course! Aside from that, everything else listed above was great!

Great place to eat; especially after the great Iron Bowl amazing game last night! Moe's is an Alabama original - makes me want to be back in Alabama! Fabulous rib sandwich along with the Yellow Hammer drink special!! Try the MAC n cheese!! Everything was delicious!

Some damn good BBQ here! I strolled in a little later in the day so they were out of most menu items so I settled for the 1lb. of Turkey Breast & Potato Salad. Honestly not what I wanted based on my pre-selected order based on previous yelp reviews but it was incredible! I was a little on the hungover side so I opted to take my meal to go back to my hotel. The service was great & my food arrived at the call window within minutes...as expected from a BBQ joint. I carried my yummy smelling large brown bag to my hotel and opened it with delight. It smelled so good I can't imagine it tasting bad. My turkey was sliced not too think & not too thin....just right & it came with a BBQ sauce and an unexpected white sauce. I dove into the potato salad first as that was highly recommended. I'm usually a tough one to win over as my mom makes the BEST potato salad but this was a close runner up. The previous reviews were spot one. It was BOMB! the turkey was tender, moist and smokey. Paired with the magical white sauce and the BBQ sauce it was too much to handle. I nearly ate the entire pound in one sitting. This place is a MUST try lunch spot. I wish I wasn't battling the hair of the dog as the concoctions they had swarming around the bar looked very refreshing. If I visit again I will make this a day one or two stop vs. last day.

An excellent price for Vail! The last times I came to town, we had to stop here. Food is really good! Summer here is great as well with the outdoor patio.

Moe's was quite good. The service was extremely fast. Food was ready within 10 minutes after placing my order at the counter. I had the Smoked Turkey platter with 3 hot wings, collard greens, and black eyed peas. Everything was very juicy and flavorful, and the wings had a unique flavor as well. The price was reasonable as well, as I got all of the above and a tall Coors beer for under $20. I'll definitely return next time I come to Vail.

After eating at Moe's it's not surprising it's so highly rated. After several expensive meals in Vail, we were craving some cheap comfort food. My wife got the pulled pork sandwich with two sides while I got the turkey sandwich with two sides. Both sandwiches were delicious and I was surprised by how good the turkey, which was recommended by the bartender, tasted. Perfectly cooked and very moist. We tried four different sides and the sweet potatoes and the miss mud pie were the standouts. That actually doesn't do them justice - the sweet potatoes were incredible. I just wish the portion was bigger, I could of eaten a whole bowl. On top of the food, Moe's has a great selection of CO microbrews. Definitely a must visit when in Vail.

Loved the food! Everything was yummy as w person who hates cole slaw you have to try there's its delicious. None of that yucky many stuff. There's is fresh and delish. Don't miss the banana pudding it's to die for!

I work right next to Moe's BBQ - so I frequent this place quite often. My ULTIMATE favorite is the Thursday Thanksgiving special - it is just the perfect sandwich. Otherwise I highly recommend the Pulled Pork, and the Banana Pudding as a dessert is also ridiculously delicious. I recommend Moes to anyone looking for an affordable lunch option in Lionshead Village.

  • Rkd K.

Great place to go to after a long day of skiing. Great food at a great price (specially for Vail). Not a full service restaurant so don't expect much, order your food at the counter, grab a table and enjoy.

Great place. Recommend to us by folks who know the original Moe's in Atlanta. Genuine, excellent 'que and cost less than lunch on the mountain. A real place, local ambiance, real good, and a real deal.

If you love smoked meats and fabulous sides this is the place for you! Kids meal comes with choice of ribs, smoked chicken, smoked turkey Cheesy jalapeño grits, baked beans, squash casserole and grilled cornbread. Delish!!!

  • Steve G.

The #1 requested spot by my friends when they come visit me. Food has always been clutch and we have never left hungry. My favorite thing to do is order the daily special. Shrimp Mo boy, thanksgiving sandwich, catfish friday, I could go on and on. Or stick to what you know and get you som' pulled pork, ribs, or wings. The space can get a little crowded but there is seating outside. Or get a tall boy while you wait and get to know the locals. DON'T FORGET TO LISTEN FOR YOUR NAME. When your order is ready you go pick it up.

  • Olga S.

Delicious food, and cheap (hard to find in Vail)!! Ordered the pulled pork and the smoked wings, and all of it was really good! The atmosphere is fun, definitely dive bar feel, but if you are looking for some drinks and some cheap good food, I would definitely recommend Moe's. You just seat yourself and order/pick up at the bar, really chill and fun place!

  • Paul C.

Great food and amazing staff. The manager was beyond friendly. Dare I say in this review that he surprised me and my girlfriend with a shot of Fireball. It was a little loud due to the Alabama game but that is completely to be expected. I highly recommend it!

  • John R.

Between the food and the layout of the place it is a cross between Virgil's in NYC and Southern Soul BBQ in St. Simons Island, GA. The only place where it falls short on getting the forth star is the quality of the BBQ. It is good but no where near the BBQ of GA where there is a smoker larger than a minivan out front and it is too much of a dive type environment to be compared to Virgil's. However, with all of this said if you need a BBQ fix while in Vail this might be the place to get it!

    (3)
  • Tri H.

The price to quality ratio is very good here. Very good food for a super reasonable price. There are some drawbacks though. They usually run out of food early so you need to come early. Also the place is tiny so not great for a party greater than 6. In my opinion Famous Dave has better BBQ sauce but the ribs are way better at Moes. You can't go wrong with either tho.

    (5)
  • Alex S.

Great for lunch or dinner. Good food, good selection of beer, nice help-thyself service. The most affordable place in Vail for good food.

  • Chris A.

I totally loved this place. Went during slow season and it had lots of local feel. Bartender was sweet and fun. Cook came out to see how I liked my shrimp po boy and thought I needed some corn bread too. Both were great. I liked it so much I left a second tip. For my part, I have never enjoyed a meal in vail more than this.

I employed Moe's to cater my wedding reception, so my review is based off that service. I have also eaten in their restaurant a bazillion times and it is some of the best mac and cheese ever... We wanted something unique for our wedding and, as my husband is an avid bbq fan, Moe's seemed the perfect choice. We were not disappointed. Laura was great to work with and arranged to meet us for a tasting months before our event. I am a vegetarian and Moe's was able to work out vegetarian meals for me and a few other guests. Gluten free was also an option. She and her staff were super professional before and during our event. Our coordinator sent super confusing emails but Laura managed to cipher through them and get the important details. We also had "the Pit" to serve food to our guests and she was able to make it happen -even tho the weather was not 100% cooperative. I received tons of compliments on our food, the only complaint was, "I ate too much!" I would highly recommend Moe's for the food and the service. If you are looking for a casual way to serve delicious food to your guests Moe's is a perfect choice.

Born and raised in Texas, I'm kind if a BBQ snob. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by the food. Ribs were pretty good. Next time I'll order it sans sauce. All my sides were tasty and their side specials looked really good too. They gave me a little banana pudding for waiting a bit which was nice. I had so much food that I could barely move after.

    (4)
  • Jeff B.

Love the 'Cue here don't love the eating arrangement and line. It's all worth the wait. Get the Bloody Mary it's phenomenal. The bbq has no equal in Colorado. I've had my share of good BBQ all over the Midwest and South. In Colorado this is the stuff. Don't be picky it's all good on this menu. Personally, the pulled pork is my favorite. It has nice rich flavor and is juicy with low fat. Can't beat it!

    (4)
  • Ryan P.

Weird place. You order at the bar and than pick up your food at the kitchen window and than you throw it away. Not sure why tips are expected here but they are anyways. The food. I had the pulled pork which was sweet and very fatty. No smoke or BBQ flavor just sweet pork which isn't bad. They have a vinegar based sauce you can add to it which is pretty good. Sides- beans really good. Potato salad really good- Mac and cheese sucky--- corn bread is ok but not great---- banana pudding is awesome. Price is super reasonable and makes the not so greatness of this place much much better especially for vail.

I was told Moe's was a BBQ joint back in the south and that if you work there for a few years you have the opportunity to franchise it. Welcome to Vail, Colorado Moe's. I also saw one in Denver. Meaning unfortunately this place may be the new Chipotle as it definitely has turned into a bit of a chain. After a long hike up Vail Mtn we were ravished. We came up on this spot in the village that our buddy likes. I went with the pulled pork sandwich Bama style ( involving sauce and slaw) and my sides were the cucumber and tomato salad and the special corn. They gave me my cup to head to the soda fountain. HOT DAMN, they had red G2 as an option mixed in with the Pepsi, Dr. Pepper and Sprite. I was definitely getting down on the Gatorade and it was delicious. I had never seen this as an option before, and I swear more places need to do it! Whether for post work-out refueling or hangover helper, offering G2 to your customers is just hands down awesome. I digress, back to the food. The sandwich was delicious. Overflowing with pork, the bread the perfect amount of softness. I added what seemed to be prob 3 tbsps of their hot bbq sauce - which definitely wasn't too hot or overpowering. The sides were small, think little serving cups but, the salad was delicious and refreshing while the corn was meh. I had a bite of the mac n' cheese and that was pretty damn good and a bite of the banana pudding post meal, which was also pretty tasty served with 2 Nilla wafers. Why not the five star styz? Well, this place wasn't legendary. Was it a damn good pulled pork sandwich meal for $11 in the middle of Vail, Colorado? Yes. Was I more than amped to have a drink of G2 from a soda fountain? Yes. However, it is a chain, and it did sorta feel and taste like one but, I'd imagine I'd be here many a day post snowboard session to get my eat on.

I had the ribs. Good service, good food and decent prices. Highly recommend this place.

    (5)
  • Chong I.

Pretty good BBQ, reminiscent of southern blends. In other words, it's not doused with thick ketchup-like BBQ sauce. Instead tasted like a vinegar BBQ fusion, which I appreciate. The sides were good; I had the potato salad and cole slaw, which were home made and delicious. Seating was booth-bench style and ordering was at the cash register and self service pickup at the window. Prices are reasonable. Good bang for the buck!

    (4)
  • Brian W.

Get the apple sides. They are amazing. Great place in Vail and doesn't break the bank. BBQ was very good and the sauce was spot on! More trips to Vail means more Moe's BBQ. Bartenders are friendly and can always offer a good suggestion. Serving size is perfect after a day on the mountain. Check them out, you won't be disappointed!

    (4)
  • Katherine S.

Awesome home cooked food. I sat at the bar and chatted with all the locals who came in for food and worked there - Colorful characters who were beautiful and happy. The ribs were amazing, sweet, juicy, fall off the bone. The cornbread was addictive. I love collard greens and these were boiled with bacon- yummy and not salty or greasy. And the vinegar cole slaw had a little kick-perfect. Note-it's picnic style. You'll order at a window, find a table inside or out, and wait for your name to be called to pick up your food. Nothing fancy at all.

    (5)
  • Jaime L.

Prices are amazing for Vail... which, of course, is not saying much. But in this particular case, the prices are actually reasonable. We had the ribs and some sides. I am a rib lover and these were not great. Nor were the sides. We had collars greens, which were overly sweet, and their home-made pickles, which were pretty good. Good energy in the place. I don't think we saw anyone over 25, including the entire staff. I guess I would go back if I was looking for something inexpensive. Not sure what I would order, though.

    (3)
  • John A.

Quick. Easy. Tasty. Lots of good inexpensive choices for BBQ in Vail. I was very satisfied. The sweet potato casserole was something I wasn't expecting, but very good & sweet. My only gripes were that there wasn't a restroom, the restaurant could have been generally cleaner, & the mac & cheese should have been hot when served. Small stuff, but enough for me hold back that fifth star. I will probably eat at Moe's again.

    (4)
  • Angela D.

We pigged out on ribs, brisket, and chicken here after an early morning on the slopes. Definitely satisfies your hunger! All the meats were delicious. My favorite was the corn bread! It was sliced up, toasted on each side and just crumbles in your mouth. Of the side dishes, we tried corn, baked apple, turkey chili, gumbo, potato salad, slaw, & collard greens. All were decent except for the collard greens which was prepared perfectly, however seasoned too salty for me.

    (4)
  • Di M.

I ordered the chicken wings and turkey and paired this with their cheesy grits and potato salad. I was feeling too lazy to walk very far from my hotel and Moe's had my food ready to go within 5-10 minutes. The turkey was flavorful and juicy, with just enough of that smokey flavor so that it didn't overpower the meat and left you wanting more.

  • Derk R.

Legit. Really great food, cool people, Widespread Panic on the PA. Not Vail-like. I had the pulled pork, Lima beans and Mac 'n cheese and it was actually better than several famous Nashville BBQ places I've recently visited.

  • Liz P.

Best wings in town. Amazing smoked meats and delicious sides - seriously the Mac-n-cheese is really good.

My experiences with BBQ in Colorado have not been the greatest to put it nicely. So when my friend suggested Moe's after a day of skiing, I was a little skeptical of good BBQ in Vail of all places. But he's from Texas and knows a thing or two about tasty BBQ, so I said sure. Well I'll be, good BBQ and a short walk from the amazing slopes of Vail! I ordered the six ribs platter with mac 'n cheese and banana pudding. I ended up getting seven ribs (shucks), and they were meaty and tender with great flavor. Moe's sauce was also a nice surprise. It was a bit spicy and a little rough like a Texas sauce, just the way I like it. The mac 'n cheese was delicious, and the banana pudding so good that I scrapped the cup as clean as possible. Prices were comparable to any other place or maybe even a bit cheaper, which was a shocker for being in Vail. And the atmosphere was nice and casual, which was great when still wearing ski boots. I look forward to visiting again after hit'n the slopes, and trying their other locations closer to home.

  • Sarah G.

I probably had too lofty of expectations for this place, but it was just okay in my book. Had the pulled pork sandie with sides of mac & cheese and vinegar slaw. The cornbread was especially tasty at first bite, but then the novelty of it kind of wore off. Don't know how to explain that. Slaw was okay, but I prefer creamy so I can top it up on my sandwich. Pop machine was out of fizz also (a minor complaint). I'm not sure what the deal is with me and BBQ, but for whatever reason it takes a lot to really leave me with a 'wow' impression... and Moe's just didn't get me all that excited. Still, they seem to have the market cornered for 'cue around here, and it got crazy busy for apres so maybe there's just something I'm missing.

    (3)
  • Nik N.

Inexpensive high quality BBQ food. The pulled pork was amazing, I got the sandwich but quickly ditched the bun. The sweet potato casserole side was better than the one I made for thanksgiving. The banana pudding was a little plain. No beers on tap and the selection was a bit limited. We fed six people for $90 with beers at a ski resort!

  • Kent P.

Finally a place that isn't a rip off in Vail. And they serve BBQ. Varying sides everyday, get three of them with a large platter of meat for 10$, add two ribs or four hot wings for 3$, and while you're at it, get a 24 fl oz (710ml) PBR for 3.50$. Only reservation: my pulled pork was tepid and bit TOO fatty. Sorry. Note: Banana pudding was pretty good...but that corn bread. OH SHIT. Get that. Please. Tell them Kent sent you (they won't know what you're talking about but I'll feel good about it).

    (4)
  • Jake B.

Place is way too busy to the point that they didn't even register my order. I get it. It's a local place with good reviews and there aren't many other options. It's overcrowded all the time. Unfortunately that means sloppy operations. Don't let yourself fall through the cracks here. Be vigilant about your order. Make sure you know who is in front of you, and be very vocal if you aren't getting served. Locals for locals - not for tourists!

I had a religious experience and it involved my favorite meat on earth. No, Channing Tatum wasn't there but another magical meat showed up on top of my table -- the baby back rib sandwich. Now a little background... I was raised in Colorado, lived in Austin for almost 4 years (AMAZING BBQ, duh) and currently in LA (HORRIBLE BBQ). I was on vacation in Vail and we needed a yummy lunch before heading back to Denver. They had a special that day - the rib sandwich. It changed my life. I believe you measure a BBQ joint by three things: 1. Baby back ribs 2. Coleslaw 3. Brisket and 4. Sauce/Mess of napkins. They did 3 of the four amazing (I didn't try the brisket). Sandwich had a pretty good bun, excellent rib meat (and LOTS of it), good sauce and coleslaw. I love when there is coleslaw on the 'wich. For my two sides I got the mac and cheese and tomato and cucumber salad. They were both good but VERY small. The mac and cheese was also a tad too oily for my taste. Especially by the time I got to the bottom of the cup. Overall, the staff was very helpful and nice. I would recommend a HOT house BBQ sauce. Heart you rib sandwich! Also has great seating outside on these cute wooden benches. Nice view of the shops as well!

Love the atmosphere. Being from TX I know BBQ. Feels right at home. Food also fantastic. Good selection of sides and meat was great. Not as good as the best in TX, but fantastic. Staff very friendly and helpful. If I feel like BBQ I won't hesitate to return.

The boys from Alabama do a darn fine job! Not only is their BBQ excellent, but their side dishes are classic southern food. My favorite is the Fried Green Tomatoes, second only to Mama's. Its friendly, service is excellent, and the Maker's Mark flows freely. If you show up late, they might be out of something. Don't get mad. It means everything they serve up is fresh!

Moe's is my favorite bar/restaurant in the valley. The staff here is nothing short of exceptional. The blackened Mahi sandwich is my favorite item on the menu. I'm not a big pork fan but there are many alternatives for people like myself. The price has to be the biggest plus. Very reasonable! My only suggestion is that they offer more beer selections.

I was super excited to come here because of the great reviews, yummy pictures and cravings for BBQ that I've had lately. I've had some great BBQ and this wasn't it. My Meal: Roasted Turkey sandwich (pretty good meat, but a gross, tangy onion slaw on top which was not noted on the menu) Potato Salad (tangy and pretty blegh) Banana Pudding (ZERO bananas) My Hubbs Meal: Pork Platter (dry pork) Potato Salad (he said it was just ok) Baked Beans (good) Cornbread (dry, nothing special) Not enough sauce on either meals and no bottles of it anywhere. They were out of Mac n Cheese (at NOON!) which makes me think they just didn't make it that day. Service kinda sucked. And there were loud, drunk men sitting at the bar. Next time I'll just pass and try any other BBQ place in Colorado.

Yummy mac n chz. Chicken sandwich was flavorful. The set up is odd, don't expect wait staff but that must be why the prices are reasonable.

The pulled pork sandwich with potato salad and red beans and rice was delicious! My son had the ribs and banana pudding which were equally yummy. We are from Texas so we often are spoiled with good barbecue, and Moe's rates right up there with the best. Also, the staff were extremely friendly and laid back. Loved it!

I only had sides because I wasn't too hungry. The mac & cheese was delicious. The beans were overly sweet, and needed some balance. The cornbread was nice, light, and crispy. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich, he loved it. My father had the BBQ chicken, he said the flavor was good, but it was dry. The atmosphere was loud, more bar like. This was more self serve style, order at the register and pick up the food at the window. The staff was friendly.

Highly recommended if you are nearby and prefer local places and cheap eats over upscale dining experiences. Pretty darn good BBQ joint in Lionshead Village. I had the roast turkey sandwich with beans and slaw. Not amazing, but it's one of the few decent food options in Lionshead other than bar food and steak/seafood. Small place with character. Seats at the bar, tables and booths inside, and patio seating outside. Order at the bar - wait for them to call your name and pick up your food at the window to the left of the bar.

This is the first place I insist on eating every time I get into town. I would love to own my own Moe's in Brooklyn so I could load up on Shrimp Po' Boys, Mac n' Cheese & and Vanilla Puddin'. Gotta love the little indie puddin' with the 'nilla wafer on top.. AND bottom! Best hidden secret, other than the booze which is NO secret... Thursdays is the Thanksgiving special day. I agree with Rae F. Food-gasm. Oh, and the white barbecue sauce is worth killing for. Period.

Went last night... They do not have brisket plates; I dont care for pork so I ordered the beef sandwich which was underdone. That doesn't really offend me but the overall order and process fell very short of expectations. Orders - when we finally got them - were not right and completely missing sides. Our friend got the ribs - they looked good - he said he liked them...maybe a better option? Place was packed - we bussed 3 tables to help out an inundated staff. Woman at the counter was consistently and completely bitchy to everyone in spite of patrons observing she was having a bad night and trying to placate her. I might try it again on a less-packed night and give em another chance, but after that experience, it probably wont be on any effort or going out of my way. Kind of disappointing after having heard some pretty good things.

Very good flavors here. Stopped in for lunch a couple of days ago. My mother and I split a smoked turkey plate with collard greens and sweet potato casserole, which comes with jalapeno cornbread and a drink. The turkey had a great flavor. It didn't seem like a lot of meat in the dish, but it was probably about a half a pound, so it was easily enough for both of us. The collards were very, very good and some of the best I've had. They were vinegary, which I really liked, although it was a pretty small amount. The sweet potatoes were also very good and covered with a candied corn flake topping. Different and very good. The cornbread as a great flavor of jalapeno, but no heat. It's also not at all crumbly, which I like. My dad got a kid's meal of a pulled pork sandwich with a side, but I can't remember what it was. It was by no means kid's sized! It was a standard hamburger bun with at least four oz. of meat. It definitely needed extra sauce, but had good flavor and the meat wasn't dry on its own. The sauce is definitely vinegary, and thin, so be advised this is not Texas style barbeque. My dad's kid's meal is $5.5 which is a little high for a kid's meal, but seeing the size of it, it makes sense. My mother and I's plate was $10. That includes cornbread, two sides, and a drink, but the sides were just in two ramekins, and it would be a little more worth it if they included bread to make a sandwich out of your meat choice. However, this is Vail we're talking about, which makes it a steal.

By far the best lunch place in Vail with pulled pork that absolutely excellent. The sides are fresh daily and always tasty, so it's worth trying something new even if you don't recognize it. We also had Moe's cater one of our events which worked out really well. Everyone raved about the pulled pork and they even include extra sauce for those that can't get enough.

Quick tip: Veg options are scarce. This might be a side heavy meal. Overall it wasn't easy to come up with a veg friendly meal and I bent the rules with a fried fish sandwich. Their bbq sauce is some variety of amazing, their beans were solid and mac and cheese was above average. If I were back in Vail again, I'd definitely stop here if I passed by.

I went to Moe's expecting a quick bite, but instead was treated to some of the best po'boys in my life. I ordered the Shrimp Po'Boy, mac-n-cheese and Banana Pudding and was in heaven!!! Perfectly executed, great special sauce. I liked it so much, I went twice in four days. Great prices too!

$10 at Vail....stunning good prices. Good portions, great sauce, delish sides I recommend: Mac n cheese Pulled pork Peas n greens My only complaint was the super loud Jamaican music outside but the red stripe special inside was awesome. There is outdoor and indoor seating and some tvs inside - The perfect lunch or dinner while out on the slopes.

Great post-Vail spot. And its CHEAP! Which is hard to find in the hoity toity place like Vail. Came here after an epic powder day. My tummy was rumbling and I was ready to faint. This place came through in a pinch. I was able to get a full meal of a half BBQ chicken, sides of mac'n cheese and sweet potato casserole, and a drink for under $10!! If they ever have the sweet potato casserole as a side special, do not ever pass it up! It comes served with corn flakes on top..yummy!! They also have a cool down to earth atmosphere inside. It's very close to the gondola in Lionshead so it makes for a good post Vail hangout spot to wait out the traffic.

I can't take it anymore. Something needs to be said. I love this place and eat here once or twice a week. It is awesome 'Bama-style barbecue and as good as anything you can get in the deep south! The sweet tea and banana pudding are as good as my grandmother's in Memphis (just don't tell her that)! It is reasonably priced and you get a lot of food for the money. There are a few stand-outs that id like to mention though.. I LOVE their rib's and chicken wings, some of the best I've ever had. Also, their "specials" are great! It varies by day but they are always worth a try. Be sure to check out the side dish specials as well.. Last time I went I had the "new" pit-beef sandwich special. It was so good I had to go back for another one! It's the first time they've done a beef dish here, being an Alabama-style place beef has never been on the menu, but they really hit the ball out of the park on this one! As much as I love this place I have seen why some people complain a little about this place.. Yes it does get a little rowdy during Apres Ski and during sporting events (especially during football season). They do sometimes get a little overwhelmed by masses of people that come here to eat, but I wouldn't hold any of this against them! They provide a great product at a great price with great sized portions. It is a landmark in Vail, and I challenge you to find a better value. To the naysayers.. Moe's is BAMA bbq NOT Texas and therefore there is no beef on the menu (except for the aforementioned pit-beef sandwich special) and the sauce is different. The menu is on the GIANT metal sign when you walk in and the specials are listed on the black board above the register. The line starts at the register and all orders must be taken there, don't just belly up to the bar and expect prompt service. After you order YOU are responsible for fetching your food from the pickup-window when they yell out your name and/ or ring the bell. They only make a certain amount of meat and sides per day to guarantee freshness so when it's gone, it's gone! Sometimes things sit around a little and sometimes they run out, it depends on how busy it is or how popular one item is on any given day. There is no table service so don't expect anything to be brought to you or to be cleaned up after you. When you are done throw your stuff in the trash and leave your basket on top of the can. It can get a little crazy there, but that is usually because people like to go there to have a good time. If you don't like to let loose and have a little fun then maybe you should just get a pizza and stay in your hotel room. You're on vacation! Let the good times begin! And I can think of no better place than Moe's..

We've been hearing about this place for years and finally got the push we needed from a friend. We are so happy because this is some of the best bbq these two Texans have ever had. We're just upset it took up this long to make it to Moe's. Here's a run down of our meal: Platter with Two Sides and a Drink: We chose the smoked turkey as our meat and it was so deliciously tender it made us shiver in delight. The BBQ sauce was a perfect complement to the meat and not overwhelming as many sauces can be. Our sides were quite remarkable as well. Mac & cheese was a homemade concoction of a mild white cheddar (I think) and the baked beans had the perfect amount of spicy kick to them. We also added a third side, Jambalaya, and it was quite a spicy mouthful. Excellent meal. Hey, Moe's! We'll be back.

Too sleepy to eat dinner, I thought Moe's would wake me up cause my friends said it's pretty good. I actually did felt asleep while chewing the pulled pork. Nothing actually really special about this place, other than the fact, people drank beer and watching football or some sort of sports on TV. The coleslaw somehow was the better one compared to the other dishes that you got as a combo, which are baked beans, corn bread, chicken, pulled pork and one green vegetable thingy. The chicken was so little and the pulled pork barely has a BBQ taste at all. I guess this place is not up to my par at all, it couldn't even make my eyes open when I was so darn hungry. I guess this is one of the okay choice for people bcoz most dinner places here are like fine-dining and this is VERY casual, just walk in with your snowboard gear and they still serve you.

I only had drinks here, but the BBQ Food sure did look and smell great. I liked how Coors light 16oz was only $2.50. They have nice TV's, but only 1 cable box capable of HD. They also play music, even when a large portion of the crowd is watching March Madness. Out of all the places in Vail, Moe's had the youngest customers (by far).

We had a waiter at our hotel tell us "Your in Vail now" after we scoffed at paying $12 for an egg, slice of toast and coffee. BS, if you do just a little bit of research you can find really good food for a great price. My GF and I shared some ribs, chicken wings, two sides and both of us had drinks for just $20 with the tip. It was just the right amount of food and it tasted great.

Extremely disappointed. Had the southern fried catfish special & it was awful. The fishiest I've ever tasted. Used the great BBQ sauce to drown that out. No spice at all in the batter. Mac & cheese not very good either. Red beans & rice & the hushpuppies were good. Stick to the BBQ'd meats I guess.

Decent, not amazing, BBQ but portions are on the small side. Prices are reasonable for Vail. Music was too loud and obnoxious (f-bomb).

Excellent BBQ. This was the first Moe's I had been to and it was incredible. I've been to a few others since and this one was by far the best. I'd give them 2-3 stars - there's that much of a difference. I strongly recommend checking these guys out. Their pulled pork is incredible.

Wooo-weee...can you say FOOD-GASM? Me & the bf came here apres ski (snowboard) and after looking at the Vail map, we chose this place out of the others. Thank goodness we did! It was simple, small and you place your order at the register and then sit and wait for the cook to call you up. The only confusing part is the cashier girl asks for your name, but the cook calls you by your order. We ordered the Large Rib Platter and the Pulled Pork platter. Both came with 2 sides - Collard Greens, Mac & Cheese, Red Beans & rice. I loved the mac & cheese..it was simple and salty. The collard greens are kinda sour, but i don't normally eat them so I guess they're delish for what they are. But the meats, oh boy the meats. My pulled pork was soft and tender. The ribs were a dry rub with a hot sauce drizzled over it and let me say, this is one of the BEST dry rub ribs ever! My bf loved them so much, he saved half of the portion for his friends to taste later on. Both platters are served w. Jalepeno corn bread that has a tasty butter crisp on one side. I wish i read about this before, cuz i heard the banana pudding is also really amazing!

Real Alabama BBQ in Vail of all places! I grew up on awesome smoked bbq where the pitmaster would start cooking in the pre dawn hours, tending the fire and smoke to produce the most delicious meats. How 3 Alabama boys ended up in Vail and making some of the best bbq I've tasted is beyond me, but I'll take it. Their rib platter at first looks a little dinky, but the 6 ribs it came with were incredible. Cooked perfectly, which actually doesn't mean fall of the bone - that's overcooked, with a nice rub on the meat. They put sauce on the pork ribs after they were smoked, so it wasn't a sticky glaze. The meat was so flavorful and tender. I was really impressed. I also had half of their pork bbq sandwich. Served up on a plain burger bun, this pulled pork meat was tender, juicy, and plain good. Not really a thing I'd change about it, just kept squeezing on some of their tangy bbq sauce on each bite. The sandwich wasn't huge, but the amount of meat put on wasn't stingy at all. The sides there are good too. The sweet potato casserole is one of their occasional sides that you have to get if it's there. The mac and cheese was sad, not enough cheese on it and a buttery pool at the bottom of the cup. I'd get their baked beans instead which were very good. They also have chili beans too which are good. Their best side would probably be their jalapeno cornbread. They grill it, to give more texture and flavor. It's great by itself, with hot sauce, or with their bbq sauce. The jalapeno in the cornbread wasn't overwhelming at all. They've got a good banana pudding. More of a banana cream than a pudding, but it's tasty. I should've tried their coconut creme pie though. I'm sure that would've been good. This little place isn't too far a walk from the gondola for lunch or apres ski. It's got a lot of locals coming in for the good food and really good prices. They open until they decide to close and the smoked meats are served until they run out of what they cooked that day. You can't go wrong here.

This place was super yummy. We have been around Colorado looking for good BBQ and this is the first place that has been good. It was actually way better than good, it was fantastic! I had the pulled pork platter with Mac & cheese , baked brand and coconut cream pie, it also come with yummy corn bread. I will say the sides are a lil too small that's why I couldn't give it a 5 star. But it had a friendly atmosphere and great location.

Pretty tasty barbecue. We each had a pulled pork sandwich with 2 sides for lunch. The pork was very tasty, but the bun kind of sucked. It was like the cheap kind you buy at the grocery store. I expected more especially based on the quality of the pork. The sides were pretty good. I had mac and cheese, which was good but really greasy. The coleslaw was also okay. If I was visiting again, I might stop back. Not a bad option, especially cost-wise!

We walked about 2 miles in a brewing thunderstorm with mounting resentment relayed towards us from the majority of our party simply because we really wanted to try the BBQ here. Was it worth it? It was. The vinegary spicy sauce at Moe's is possibly my favorite BBQ sauce ever (I actually bought a bottle to bring home) and all the meats were incredibly tender and moist. My favorites had to be the pulled pork and the ribs. I loved the marinated coleslaw because it too had a vinegary dressing with lots of crunch and poppy seeds in it. The baked beans were sweet and creamy, the mac 'n cheese savory and delicious, and the corn bread had a nice large crumb to it. We had some amazing meals during our time in Colorado but this one is definitely up there vying for top place. Now if only they'd open one in CA....

A great place to unwind after a day on the slopes. Got the pulled pork platter for $9.00(tax included), which comes with two sides, cornbread, and fountain drink. The coleslaw side was really good, but small. The cornbread is fantastic and unique. They toast the bread on the grill so its nice and warm when served. Would go back and try the banana pudding and get the pulled pork again. One night I went there and they were out of food. Apparently the meat is quite fresh and specially prepared overnight. Good deal for food in the village.

Service was not all that friendly. Food was below average. We ordered two turkey sandwiches and they both had hard buns and chewy room-temperature turkey. I also thought the sandwiches were pretty small. It would have also been nice to know that they put cole slaw directly on the sandwich so that I could have asked to have that left off.

Ate here today and it was good BBQ. Nothing overly great or standoutish. My boyfriend and I both got the pulled pork sandwich and sides of Mac n cheese, red beans and rice, and potato salad. The Mac n cheese was pretty greasy, but good. The other sides were good. The sauce was pretty tasty. Good priced food in Vail. I was disappointed there was no brisket :( But I'm used to great Texas BBQ.

Moe's derives it's southern hospitality and style from....you guessed it.....the South. The three founders spent significant time in Alabama perfecting their craft before bringing it to the Rockies, so if you're looking for authentic "southern style" BBQ then this is your place. From wings to pork, chicken to fish, Moe's delivers that signature care that southerners put into their food. This can be evidenced by the presence of the owners, who are surprisingly on hand most every day even considering the large amount of restaurants they now own. An emphasis is put on quality that you don't often find at moderately priced restaurants such as this (probably one of the best things about Moes = fairly priced meals ~ $10. This is nice when you're in Vail). My personal favorite are the wings, and they are by far the best wings I've had in the Valley. Couple that with a side of either mac-n-cheese, baked beans, slaw, corn bread, jambalaya, or any of the other "daily sides", then top it all off with their famous banana pudding and your little heart, and belly, will be more than content. Don't forget to chase it all down with a glass of sweet tea or homemade lemonade, but with the laid back vibe and the constant classic rock playing in the background, it'll be tough not to order up a cold one from the bar. This is the perfect place to grab lunch during a day on the slopes, and if it's ski season and you're in town on a Tuesday, make sure and stop by in the evening for live bands and a beer. Winter or summer, you'll be hard pressed not to find the place packed with locals and tourists alike, and the employees know most of the customers by name which is always a good sign if you have loyalty among the locals. If you're in town, take my word and stop by Moe's, you won't be disappointed.

i love Moes! it is great BBQ at a decent price. i've gone there for the past three years and each time have gotten the same thing, pulled pork sandwhich with extra sauce and coleslaw with the potato salad. last year the service was a lot better this year the lady was a little preoccupied with the people at the bar who weren't too annoyingly drunk. i recommend going here if you enjoy BBQ, but if your from the south and a die hard "real" BBQ fan and used to the "real stuff" this might not be up to your standards.

Came to this place because of a friends recommendation. Ordered the "Double-Wide" to split between 3 people with the pulled pork. It also came with 2 sides (we chose Mac n Cheese and Baked Beans" since the Sweet Potato Casserole was out") and 4 pieces of jalapeño cornbread. Food was amazing and the $2.50 PBR's were hard to beat. Definitely interested in eating at this place again. Highly recommended, 5 stars.

I'm going to come clean on the fact that I was wishy-washy back and forth deciding on my ultimate grade for Moe's. I landed on 3.5. The food and value are easily a 4, but a negative experience with the owner knocked the overall experience down a notch for me. That being said, I'd still go back when I'm in Vail because the food was a winner and there are so few good values to be found in the upscale ski town. Good first, because I *really* wanted to give Moe's four stars and the food itself was memorable and delicious. My husband and I were in Vail this weekend for a conference and wanted a tasty lunch that didn't leave too huge a dent in our wallet, as too many Vail eateries tend to do. I remembered reading some great reviews for Moe's and my husband is a big fan of good BBQ, so we decided to stop in at Moe's. It was a gorgeous fall day and we were excited to enjoy the golden aspens and the sunshine at one of the "booths" out on the deck. Thumbs up for seating options. The menu offers excellent value in Vail, and we decided to split a $10 platter of 6 ribs, 2 sides, and a piece of cornbread. Be warned that the sides are small. (See the photos.) But, I still find the platter to be a good value! The ribs were mouthwateringly delicious! They were meaty, well seasoned and super tender. I dipped the meat in extra sauce because I like a saucy rib. Cheers for the ribs. The cornbread was unique because they throw slices of cornbread on the "skillet" and brown them off before serving them. The cornbread was moist with a good texture and flavor and I really enjoyed the slightly crispy outside from being skillet browned. It didn't even need butter. Two thumbs up for the cornbread. They had mac & cheese as a daily side special and it was delish! Silky, cheesy, rich and satisfying. Now for the not-so-good. I am not a big fan of most traditional BBQ sides or southern style sides. Black eyed peas, red beans and rice, potato salad? All big no's in my book. After reading about Moe's delicious mac-n-cheese and sweet potato casserole, I had my heart set on one of these dishes as the complement to my BBQ ribs. Meat a meal does not make in my book, so the sides are an important addition. When we got to the counter to order, we ordered 2 sides of mac-n-cheese only to be told that they had just run out. We were disappointed (and restaurants running out of menu items is just one of my pet peeves), but my husband choose something else instead. My problem was that there wasn't another single savory side that I would like. The guy at the cash register, along with the owner/manager back in the kitchen, told us that they would give us the little bit of mac-n-cheese that was left, but they wouldn't sell it to us because it wasn't up to par since it was the end of the pan. Now, I respect wanting to serve an excellent product. Way to take pride in your food! Because there wasn't any other side that I was interested in, I planned to eat the promised mac-n-cheese and got banana pudding for dessert instead. When our name was called to pick-up our tray, my husband found no mac-n-cheese. He asked the friendly guy that took our order and he said the owner decided he wouldn't serve it because it wasn't proper quality. My husband explained that it was the only side I liked and we were counting on having it. The guy went back to see if he could get it and the manager/owner stopped him and refused. He came out to speak with my husband and was rude, refusing to follow through with what he had told us when we ordered. My husband returned to our table empty handed and I was extremely unhappy. I would have MUCH rather had less than perfect mac-n-cheese than no mac-n-cheese and was annoyed to be having only ribs and cornbread for lunch. If it was truly that bad, I could have opted not to eat it, but at least I would have had the choice. And I wasn't paying for it, so I wouldn't have minded. About 10 minutes into our meal, the owner/manager came out with a fresh cup of mac-n-cheese that had just come out of the oven. If he had just apologized and given it to me, I would have been a happy camper and Moe's would be receiving 4 stars. But, instead, he went on and on in a rather abrasive way about how he won't serve food that isn't perfect no matter what the customer says. He clearly doesn't understand the old adage that "the customer is always right." At the very least, he could have been polite. If they had told us when we ordered that a fresh pan was in the oven and it would be ready in X minutes, I would have been fine to wait the extra time for it. So would my husband. No problem. Was I glad that he brought out fresh mac-n-cheese in the end? You bet! Was it delicious? Definitely. But the side debacle still left me feeling less than satisfied. And Moe? A friendly smile and a little politeness go a long way!

Good for Colorado. The wings were the best of all the meats. They automatically put sauce on their meats. Ask for it on the side.

For BBQ in Colorado this is about as good as it gets. It's not great, but then again I'm from VA and swear (like all country people) that I can make better BBQ than anyone. It's a small little place with a chalkboard type menu. Usually there is a line to the door during the day so know what you want and order fast as not to piss anyone off. Prices are pretty low too so it's easy to fill up for less money than the typical Vail dollar gets you.

  • Mama K.

It was an okay meal, although the kiddo declared his grilled cheese sandwich "inedible"; however, he loved the banana pudding. The husband thought his ribs were okay and the cornbread was good. I liked my pulled pork sandwich, and both Mr. Wonderful and I thought the beans were very good, although they come in a very small little container. We didn't really care for their take on the fried green tomatoes. Moe's makes a big deal of the fact that they serve Alabama cuisine, and maybe that's the way they eat fried green tomatoes there? I don't know. But we've had versions that we liked better. Finally, there isn't any service. You order the food and pick it up yourself at the counter, so I can't rate that.

This place is my go to for apres after a long day of vail shredding. I've eaten here a grip of times and never wandered from the pulled pork. Its a real tasty sandwich and I do tend to mix up my sides here. I usually stick with the jalapeno cornbread, and then depending on what they have in stock I go with one of the following: mac and cheese, collared greens, BREAD PUDDING which is so delicious, or the fried green tomatoes. I'm pretty sure you can get your sandwich, 2 sides, and a tall boy pbr for under $10. This is saying quite a bit for the vail/lionshead area.

Maybe the food is great. I don't know. I went her after skiing into Lionshead and sat at the bar for 10 minutes. The place wasn't busy, but I was completely ignored. When I flagged down a waitress, asked her for a menu and if I could order from her, she told me to order from the bartender, who was serving folks from a growing line of recent arrivals. The guy next to me had already told me that he ordered from his seat, and that there was no need to get in line. I did anyhow, as the waitress had said "that's the best way." Standing in line and watching the bartender laugh and chat with the soon to be departing waitress was too much to bear. After 5 minutes of them giggling with each other, not serving a soul, I picked up my gloves and walked out of there. I was very hungry and very disappointed.

came here on a monday just in time to beat the lunch crowd. the place is seat yourself, so tables can be scarce when there's a crowd. the bf and i both ordered a large ribs. i got it with the sweet potato casserole (which was awesome) and the broccoli cheddar casserole (which i wasn't a huge fan of). bf got the baked beans and marinated coleslaw, both of which i liked. the cornbread was pretty good too. the best thing is the price. vail is so spendy, so it was nice to get a dinner including a pop for $10. get there early cause we tried to go the night before and they were running out of everything!

  • Gina P.

Food was ok. Maybe because I was there in the off season . I had the BBQ chicken sandwich with collard greens and coleslaw. The chicken was pretty slimy and didn't have much sauce. The coleslaw was fine, nothing special and I have only had collard greens one other time so I am not one to judge. The cornbread was dry... I did taste my brothers pulled pork and that was better than my chicken. I would come back after a day of skiing and order that instead.

The boys over at Moe's are great. I'd eat at this place way too much if I still worked around the corner. The pulled pork, the ribs, the smoked chicken, the mac n cheese, and the smoked turkey are all AWESOME. They'll even smoke a Thanksgiving turkey for you. The only prob w/ that is, it's so good don't plan on having any leftovers...

  • Kevin B.

One of the best BBQ's you will have. Great quality food and you will walk out of this place stuffed. Every year when we head to Vail, all I can think of besides the skiing is eating some good BBQ. The ribs are to die for and all the sides are heaven. BBQ beans, potato salad YUM. If you are in Vail or anywhere in CO and see a Moes, you need to hit this place up. If you are in Bama, you can find them there as well. Enjoy!

  • Nat K.

The pulled pork is just OK. More sauce (maybe some squeeze bottles on the tables?) was sorely needed. I should have skipped the macaroni and cheese in favor of something else (maybe the banana pudding?), but the vinegary coleslaw was divine.

Moe's is one of the best barbeque restaurants I've been to, and although their menu is fairly small, what they do have is excellent. I had the pulled pork sandwich and a side of banana pudding and it was one of the best meals I'd had in a long time. I'd give them five stars if it weren't for the fact that they tend to run out of things as the day goes on.
