We stopped in for breakfast in June, paid $14 for 2 small coffees, a hardened chocolate croissant and a dry stale muffin. We will not be returning.

We stopped by here because we were starving after rock climbing. We needed something quick and didn't want to eat at a sit in place. My vegetarian sandwich was ok. The focaccia bread wasn't all that good and it was drenched in too much basil pesto. It was a grilled sandwich so it wasn't too mushy or anything. My boyfriend had a turkey sandwich. Nothing special at all. Pretty plain. I ordered a side fruit cup to go with my sandwich. $3.99 for a tiny fruit cup?!? For real? The fruit wasn't even special fruit like raspberries or anything. It was just melon and cantaloupe. It wasn't even fresh. It was mushy fruit. You can't charge $3.99 for a mush fruit cup. We were in a hurry and needed food quick. That's all this place satisfied us with.

Had a turkey wrap and it was just alright, certainly nothing special. The turkey was good but the honey mustard that came on it was watery. The wrap was a plain white tortilla, not what I was expecting. The cabbage that came on the wrap was by no means a slaw and was dry. Service was nice enough, plenty of places for seating. Ok spot to come to for a quick lunch.

Stopping at Joe's in Vail was a pretty good experience. It's located off the street in the basement of a building, so it can be a little difficult to find. In fact, my friends and I were only about 3 steps away from passing it and eating somewhere else. This isn't a review for the ice cream just the sandwich. My friends ordered a breakfast McMuffin sort of deal which they weren't too impressive with especially because of how expensive it was in comparison to something comparable. However, the other prices of the sandwich seemed to be a good price point (especially for Vail). I ordered a spicy sandwich that was actually pretty good it had peppers, spicy salami, and ham (along with a few other ingredients). If I end up in Vail again, I will probably be back for lunch at Joe's and would recommend it to friend for a lunch spot.

The food and ice cream here are very good, but it's just too expensive. I just ordered a sandwich for my daughter that had turkey and bread only, and it was $10. I know this is Vail, but give me a break. Went down the way to Big Bear Bistro and it's much more reasonable.

We came here for their ice-cream and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had blueberry cheesecake, my new favorite flavor. We let my 18 month old try the orange freeze (a ice cream / sherbert combo, I think) and she wouldn't give it back.

A small deli which, as you can tell by their name, also serves homemade ice cream, a combination which if not as good as chocolate and peanut butter, still gives you some good options. During the morning hours they also serve breakfast, generally standard items such as scrambled eggs and bacon, or french toast. Actually they only server french toast during the week days, and not on the weekend. Why do they deny people french toast on the weekends!? Are "weekend people" not as good as "weekday people"!? Don't we who live on the weekends deserve french toast too!?

Ice cream is very good!!!! The staff gave many samples and weren't annoyed when you asked for your third sample! Ice creams made in house! And gave free cups of water which helps to clear your throat after the ice cream! I had smores flavored! It was very good had graham crackers and layers of marshmellow!

Stopped by to pick up some sandwiches for lunch. The kids' menu had grilled cheese, but the sandwich was actually made on a panini press. The cheese wasn't melted by the time the bread was cooked and it was very greasy - but a fair price at $5. I ordered a ham and cheese to split with my other child, and the size was very generous. The ham was "off the frame" but it was thick, too salty, really chewy, and strings of fat that were more like bacon than sliced ham. There was very little cheese on the sandwich for the amount of ham they put on. Another woman next to me tried ordering turkey which they said they were out of, but it was just that it hadn't been opened yet and they didn't want to slice it. The quality of the two sandwiches just wasn't worth it; one can make the equivalent and have it taste better at home. The ice cream looked delicious, but with many food options in Vail, I would go elsewhere for a quick bite for lunch.

I should have known better... We were looking for a quick, reasonably priced dinner in the village and gave it a try. Drawn in by the "famous deli" hook I ordered a Rubin sandwich. I guess I should have known better than to dream of getting a reasonably accurate representation of the real deal. No problem with the staff. No problem with the presentation (in white wax paper). But good lord ... Inedible!! I could forgive that it was on Italian bread, but I could not rip the rubber-like corned beef apart if I brought a coyote in with me. I've had overcooked clams that were less like a Michelin. For fear of losing a tooth, I resorted to knife and fork. Upon opening up the sandwich, I discovered that a third of the meat was actually fat. Come on guys... a little effort please. I gave up a few minutes later, deciding that there was no point in berating the kids working the counter over an issue that clearly resides higher up in the management chain. I will not be back there and would not recommend it. I would also ask that the management not sully the words "famous" and "deli" if you can't do better than this..

I had one of their homemade ice-cream on my recent trip to Vail. Would love to explore more options if only I knew this place earlier so I can get a decent lunch + dessert. Hopefully in the near future to have a dinner at this place. Man its like 3 hours of drive from Denver to do that... hehehe ;) & it all depends on road condition and traffic on that day. YES! I'm the one of many who eat ice-cream during FALL & Winter!

Great cozy local (aka not Starbucks) place to grab a good hot chocolate on a cool and rainy day. Didn't try the ice cream but they had a good selection of flavors and the pastries looked good too. Service was fast and friendly.

Best ice cream and flavors ever! Sign says samples encouraged and they sure are. Staff is super nice. Blueberry cheesecake, cotton candy, vegan chocolate, Nutella banana, almond joy.... So many amazing flavors and the taste is so pure and creamy.

OK ice cream, but I doubt that it's truly homemade. At least it was better than the horrible Rimini gelato in Lionshead.

This has become one of my favorite ice cream stores!! This deli/ice cream joint is located in Vail Village, down the stairs of a store. Most people will walk by it without noticing it, but the words "22 homemade flavors" will not escape my attention! I stopped by here after snowboarding and ordered the nutella & banana ice cream. Heaven in a cup! It is sooo good. I shared some with friends and we went back the next day to get it again. You can mix flavors. The next day, I got the same flavor plus the white chocolate almond. On the third day, I decided to get a quart to go instead. Half Nutella & Banana and half Almond Joy. I'm like a little fat kid being gifted with a cake. So happily delicious! My fourth day there... switched it up and got a milkshake. I'm so glad I found this place. It made my snowboarding trip even more memorable and makes me want to return to Vail that much more. hahaha It is pretty pricey, but worth it. For the most part, the employees seem alright. There is one kid who doesn't smile, like he has a stick up his butt.

Staffs there are so nice and warm. I think his name is John? He recommended fudge and cranberry cheese flavor for me. They are SO good. I forgot to tell him I needed it to go. He then did me a plastic wrap with the plate. "Safe" and sweet!

This review is just for the Ice Cream. I am a bit of an ice cream snob as I have been making my own for nearly 20 yeRs. And this is the freshest tastiest ice cream I have ever had outside of my own kitchen. I have had ice cream at the creamery in State College Pa and it pales in comparison to the ice cream here. The salted caramel was divine.

Nothing I cold say about this place could be good enough. Not a single thing. The sandwiches are the absolute best. I can't wait until tomorrow when I can have another one. I got the turkey with bacon, shredded cabbage, cheese and tomatoes. I also had the potato salad with bacon bits and it was super duper delicious. With great prices, great service and yummy homemade ice cream, I can't think of a reason not to try this place. I'll see you tomorrow, Joe!

Joe's makes our favorite ice cream: Oreo Cherry Cheesecake! Joe hasn't made this flavor for a couple years, but this year he made a special order just for us! We made sure to have him set aside a gallon for us to take back home, but treated ourselves to the remainder of the batch every time we walked into town. We even had some friends visiting with us this year and also agreed that the Oreo Cherry Cheesecake was the best flavor in the case! On our last night in Vail we again walked into town to go to Joe's, but guess what, they were out of our flavor! Guess the public also loves the Oreo Cherry Cheesecake! Thanks again Joe for being so accommodating to our special order; see you again next year!

Joe's is a little treasure in the heart of Vail, across the street from Vendetta's pizza and underneath the Loro Piana store. If you're hunting for ice cream or a great sandwich in Vail, look no further. The ice cream is remarkable, and the young local staff takes their time in scooping, but be patient: it is worth the wait and truly a local gem. Best bet: grab the seat nearest the door for ventilation (Joe's can get warm inside), and you'll get great peoplewatching there.

If you are in the mood for a good sandwich or need a quick lunch spot, Joe's Famous Deli is a great choice! We were in Vail for a month long work assignment, and visited for an early, fast dinner in June. Both my husband and I enjoyed our sandwiches. The ingredients were fresh, the sandwiches were a satisfying size, and I personally was a fan of their focaccia bread. We ended our meal with two scoops of their homemade ice cream and it was delicious! Rich and creamy and very generous in size! Two scoops was plenty to share. The deli is small, with only 4 tables, so during a busy time, it might be challenging to find a seat. But, their sandwiches would be a perfect option for carry out. The location is very convenient, just a short walk from the Vail gondola. My only semi-negative is that the value was just ok, a little on the pricey side for deli sandwiches. But, not totally unexpected for Vail!

Update: Came back two nights later (already out of ice cream...) and got two more pints: another Oreo Caramel Fudge and a Nutella Banana.... Yum!! So much more ice cream this way than just ordering single scoops for a party of 4. (Single scoop is $4.50.) *************************************************** Ordered two pints of ice cream - double fudge brownie and Oreo caramel fudge. We went with that option since a double scoop was $6 and the pint was $7. We took both pints back to our condo for the next couple nights, so it worked out well. Ice cream was delicious and tons of great flavors to choose from, so still 4 stars, but it's a little too expensive to just grab a cone out and about. Very happy with our purchase though!! When in Vail, you gotta find the bargains!

This is my go to spot in Vail for a soup and sammie. They have good sandwiches, like the rosemary chicken and the soups run out quick. The price is comparable since its located in the heart of the village. Staff is always friendly.

I've had this place bookmarked for awhile and was so glad that I remembered this place after having dinner in Vail. There was a line but it went by so quickly that I didn't even realize it was my turn even though the young lady was staring right at me, waiting for my order lol. I was too busy staring at the flavors they had, trying to figure out what I was going to try! I can't remember what I ordered but it was HEAVENLY!!! I think this is my new favorite ice cream shop in the mountains!
