What a great surprise to find in Trinidad. We were making the drive from Denver to Santa Fe- lunch was on our mind. We stopped in Trinidad and saw these cute cafe. We had the mediterran sandwich which was delicious. It was a very cozy atmosphere and would certainly return if we are hungry and driving through again. It was pretty busy- so I am sure most of the locals love that place as well.

This place was a pleasant little surprise on our drive from Santa Fe to Denver. We stopped in because of the Yelp reviews, and are happy to report that they didn't lead us astray. The decor is basic, with touches of cute (like the mini chandeliers over each booth). Our sandwiches were sizable, and came with side salads. I also tried one of their lattes. My sandwich, the Ave Maria, was delish. It's a turkey sandwich with spiced cream cheese and Havarti cheese. I especially liked the addition of the strawberry-rhubarb jam. Note that this sandwich is a good option if you have a bit of a sweet tooth. The combination of sweet and savory totally worked. I couldn't, however, detect any of the spices that were played up in the menu, but maybe my palate isn't developed enough. :/ The coffee was quite smooth and had a good flavor. Finally, the service was friendly. Overall, it sure beats stopping at a fast food place or grabbing a sandwich from Subway.

We wanted something fresh for lunch while traveling, and we came across The Cafe on Yelp. Absolutely delightful. The choices all looked tantalizing. Our party of 4 each had different items, and each was superb - nice presentation and tasted excellent. Our son is a no-frills type of guy, and they even made him a no-frills sandwich. You should definitely stop on your way through.

This is a great, intimate, friendly place for lunch. As many seem to have done, we stopped here on the day-long DEN to ABQ drive. It was about half way, and the cafe itself just a few blocks off of the expressway, on a historic main street. The sandwiches were excellent. The chicken Mexican salad, garnished with fresh warm pita bread, was copious and tasty. Service (you order at a counter but food is brought to you) was excellent. A female manager (owner?) asked how our meals were, which was nice. She was clearly friendly with the locals, including chatty with what appeared to be a lesbian couple who strolled by (we were sitting outside). (I mention this because some LGBT reviews we read suggested that, despite being the trans-surgery capital of the country, the town was not necessarily that gay-friendly. We didn't see evidence of this; to the contrary, as a gay male couple, we found the staff/owners of the Cafe incredibly welcoming.)

Driving between Albuquerque and Denver? Stop at The Cafe in Trinidad, CO and get the Ave Marie. You will not be disappointed. Top five best sandwiches I've ever had. This sandwich was so good, I had to create a Yelp! account just to praise it. Stop at The Cafe in Trinidad CO.

Great place for lunch on the road. Everything is delicious! Chicken salad and lates rate!!! Only wish is that they were in Denver next door to our gallery!

Great to find a liitle cosmopolitan flair in the town of Trinidad. Fresh salad and local baked goods; yum! Service was fast and we were back on our road trip after a relaxing stop. We will stop by again.

Excellent food! Had the Baca house with tomato basil soup and both were great wife had Ave Maria with soup as well and she loved hers. Kids are picky and did not enjoy but their meals looked good to me. Good stop would stop here again.

Limited menu-husband and I just had blueberry muffins which were very good. Like the little chandeliers over the booths but other than that rather stark ambiance. Wait clerk was friendly. While menu was limited, selections sounded interesting.

Delicious, friendly, clean. Traveling through en route to Great Sand Dunes on Memorial Day and they were the only place open in town. They were getting ready to close and graciously stayed open to accommodate a dozen families that were hungry and we were not disappointed. Really great sandwiches and bread!

There's something very satisfying about simple food made really well from good ingredients. Pretty tasty for a late lunch on a Friday afternoon. Just passing through this time, but we have a new favorite stop on the way between Denver and Albuquerque.

Cute place along the cobblestone Main Street! Food tasted great! Not the friendliest staff, but the food made up for it. I ordered the Prospect Canyon Wrap and ate every last bite of it. The salads tasted delicious!

One of my favorite places to eat in town, when I actually have time for lunch. The Ave Maria Turkey Sandwich is unique and outstanding. I liked it so much the first time, I have never ordered anything different, in all the times I have gone here.

This was our second time passing through Trinidad. The first time we went to Cafe What a Grind and loved it. We wanted to go back there today (5/25/15) but they were closed for memorial day. So we swung by the cafe to see if they were open. They were so we went in. The woman behind the counter suggested the Ave and the Baca. We took her suggestion and ordered a vanilla latte and the truffle chocolate mocha as well. The price was $28. A little steep for 2 coffee's and 2 sandwhiches in my opinion but oh well. We sit down and she brings us our coffees. They are hot, look great, and are served in nice big/wide mugs that I love. We sip on the drinks while we wait for our food. Both are very good. The truffle mocha is (obviously) a more sweet and less of a coffee aficionado drink while the vanilla latte show cased the espresso much better. We enjoyed both. Once our sandwhiches arrived we were a bit disappointed. They looked good but at $9.00 a plate they fell a bit flat. I had the Ave and it was a little bit of turkey lunch meat with some strawberry jam and some Mediterranean seasonings. It tasted fine but it was definitely nothing special and not worth $9.00. It was so plain I'm not even sure what I would have been happy paying for it; I wouldn't really ever order something so basic out at a restaurant. I mean you could VERY easily recreate this at home...probably when you're low on groceries and only have random ingredients left (turkey lunch meat, bread, and strawberry jam). Their other food items didn't look like much either so if we return I will only get the coffee's and grab a bite to eat somewhere else. The coffee was definitely 5 stars while the food was 1 star. I'd much prefer going to Cafe What A Grind if I want food in addition to coffee.

Based on one visit, the server was not friendly but they had good coffee and chai tea. They carry almond milk. I planned on going to What a Grind but learned they were closed Saturday mornings. I'm glad I found this place. When I'm driving through town, I'll definitely be back. There was a yelper who mentioned the business closed down. It's not true. Although one could easily get that impression because their sign is above the storefront next door which is vacant. Businesses in this town don't seem to stick to their posted hours of operation.

Stopped by on a road trip to Morrison, CO. Had the most delicious mocha and breakfast wrap! Thanks for being a part of the memory! Very clean bathrooms, environment was very cozy and the manager even bussed for us though it is clearly a self-clean up establishment.

Great little place, not far off the highway. We read some reviews and Decided to try it out. The sandwiches and the coffee were great. The service was very pleasant. Very clean. We will certainly go back whenever going through Trinidad

I loved it and glad we happened upon it. The endless amount of coffee was a total perk to the fantastic food. Glad we found this place on our way back from Co to Tulsa!!

Tasty food, awesome coffee, delightful owner and staff. I would give it five stars if they had better hours of operation. I don't understand why the restaurants in town are so unaccommodating to it's patrons with the hours they keep.

The cafe is so wonderful. The atmosphere is enchanting and sophisticated, and adds a charm to the downtown that is already a delight to behold. This cafe far surpasses all the other cafés surrounding it. I got the farmers market wrap, which had a decorative drizzle of pesto surrounding a delicious sandwich. I gobbled that up like there was no tomorrow! The iced coffee is surely a deal you can't pass up - $1.07 for what is almost a Venti at Starbucks. Donny miss this place!

A little pricey for Trinidad (Just under $15 for sandwich, salad, soda, chips, and coffee), but totally solid lunch selection and I'm sad I didn't get to try their breakfast options. The texture of the Baca sandwich kind of threw me off, but it was tasty nonetheless, and I really enjoyed the accompanying house salad. Boylan soda always a plus. service was very quick and courteous. Ambiance is nice casual. Super cute cafe!

There are very few times in my life that I find it absolutely necessary to review a business. But the cafe is a dream. I come here every morning without fail. Had a friend visit for 24 hours and we visited 3 times. Go to the cafe if you want class, good food, and a good time.

Best breakfast / lunch spot in Trinadad? Could be. Could be. Friendly place right on main street with a couple of umbrella-ed tables in a street-side patio area, so you can watch all the exciting downtown life that Trinidad has to offer. Really well made and well seasoned egg dishes (their egg puffs are neat cupcake-like quiches stuffed with yummy things like green chiles, bacon and cheese) and served with a fresh green salad. A light and delicious lunch, that's for sure.

Best chicken salad sandwich in Trinidad, and I've tried them all. My roommate comes literally every morning for they're iced coffee. We luh the Cafe and the ladies who work there!

We had a nice lunch here while driving from New Mexico to Kansas one day. Trinidad seemed like a logical mid-day stopping place, and The Café seemed like a good choice based on the existing Yelp reviews. We got a couple of sandwiches which were both tasty. I wasn't totally blown away, but I still think we probably ate at the best place in town for lunch. This is a small town without a great amount of selection. One of our criteria for a lunch spot was somewhere with free Wi-Fi so that we could whip out the iPad and plan the remainder of our driving route. The Wi-Fi here at The Café was good and fast.

Very disappointed. Some ham and cheese stuffed into a small pita for $7 is steep. The sand which was dry.

We came across this gem as we were driving through town on Sunday morning. We intended to grab a coffee and go, but once we were greeted by a friendly gentleman who opened the door and welcomed us, we couldn't resist ordering a couple of cappuccinos and homemade crescents, sitting at a table and enjoying the treats, talking with the young man who greeted us. The atmosphere was friendly, the coffee and crescents were delicious, and we will come back the next time we travel this way.

Trinidad is a very small town that I've passed by many times on my trips between Colorado and Texas. But this time, I ended up spending a few days in the town. It was neat to get to know the people and explore some of the beautiful CO plains butting up against the Rockies. The Cafe is a great find for such a little town. I only had the chance to go there for breakfast. The menu was a little sparse but the food was great! Their wraps were excellent and the coffee was perfect. There was only one lady working in the morning. It took about 15 minutes to get all of our food as another customer ordered before us. She was friendly and apologized for the delay. No big deal. My only suggestion is to add a bigger breakfast menu. I'm sure french toast or pancakes made by the Cafe would taste great too!

Such a cute unexpected find! Love the decor of black painted wood booths, tables topped with freshly simple green plants, the open celling & cute vanity coffee set up. We were just looking for a snack & were just going to split the warm roast beef focaccia green chile sandwich but were lured in by a french toast roll dripping with icing, sitting on glass pedestal. Super Tasty, you must stop in!

We liked this place. We were driving through Trinidad on day 3 of a long move back home, and we just wanted some place with air conditioning to sit, cool down, use the internet and have lunch. The cafe really looks well-taken care of, and the ladies working there were extremely accommodating. Their coffee was no longer fresh when I ordered a cup in the late afternoon, so rather than make me wait, the server suggested she make me an Americano at no extra charge (espresso and water-- basically coffee but better). Our sandwiches were good, although our side salads weren't the best. Glad to have found this stop on our trip.

The Café, in Danielson's Dry Goods Store, is one of those eclectic places that raises the bar of expectation the minute you peruse the menu and see the "goodies" inside the glass display cases. Well, they do NOT disappoint in the LEAST! We've been here twice, while driving up, or down, I-25 on our treks. Trinidad itself is a great stop for shopping and taking a break from the long highways. The Café just makes it better with their amazing gourmet sandwiches, "Egg Puffs," coffees....just the whole menu, from left to right will make your mouth water. This go 'round, I had the "Mediterranean Open Face Sandwich" which looks like a pizza, but is a tasty blend of Havarti cheese, artichoke hearts, olives, roasted red peppers and tomatoes that are toasted on a pita and drizzled with a basil pesto. You can add chicken or salami on it for a little extra (I had chicken on mine). DELICIOUS!!! This also comes with a mixed greens salad with a wonderful balsamic vinaigrette. My wife had their signature Egg Puff, which is kind of like a quiche muffin. It's got feta cheese, spinach and mushrooms. It's very tasty. For the sweet tooth, they have a good selection of cookies, muffins, rolls all to go with great coffee. The Café is going to become a regular stop for us when we breeze by Trinidad. Too bad we don't have one of these about 800 miles further SOUTH!

I'm a local, formerly from Dallas, a mecca for good food, so I think I have some perspective. The Cafe is, without a doubt, the single best place for lunch or breakfast in town. Not only is the food top notch, but the atmosphere is singularly cosmopolitan without being stuffy - hard to come by in Southern Colorado. That the front of the house staff includes the owner contributes to the excellent and friendly service. Highly recommended that you stop here for your lunch or breakfast if you're passing through. Trust me, you will not find a better option between Pueblo and Amarillo.

Great food. The sandwiches were spectacular. I had a Baca House and it was great, the roast beef and cheese were of good quality and the chili and spicy sauce blended together to make a nice tingly sensation with a little heat to pair with the roast beef. The side salad was also great. Good ingredients and just the right amount of balsamic. Very glad we stopped here! The rest of my group of 5 also reported good sandwich experiences.

Stopped in based on ratings. Glad we did. I'm a picky type that is used to the flavorful food in Louisiana. The Cafe did not disappoint! Ave Maria sandwich was delish-creative use of ingredients! Clean & friendly. If you're tired of road food, stop here instead, you'll be glad you did!
