I stumbled in during their grand opening by complete accident in search of a decent lunch. I was greeted by a very friendly staff and ordered up the 2 meat plate. I got the brisket, spicy cheddar sausage, fried okra and baked potato casserole. $12.50 without a drink, well I get a free one as part of their grand opening. Still pricey for lunch. And they couldn't accept AMEX. Sat down in their new, clean dining area and dug in. Heres what I noted. The brisket was good but nothing award winning, honestly it was really greasy which I know you are all thinking of course it is, it's BBQ! But this was excessive. I think they wrap their briskets in plastic wrap and then heat them which just renders all the available fat. The sausage was terrible, I mean to the point that I tossed it. It tasted like a Bar-S Brand sausage with chunks of government cheese embedded in it. No good. The casserole was also bad, tasted like it was reheated food service prepared food. The okra was, well fried okra. Unless it's over cooked it's always good. Overall impression is that this is a over priced franchise run by a very nice family. It's too bad they didn't start their own BBQ gig because I bet it would be a lot better. The place was swimming in marketing materials and just really created a fake homestyle atmosphere.

*** Celiac Friendly *** Dickey's has a published gluten free menu. It is hard to tell that this is a chain restaurant. The smoke in their BBQ is superb and the meats are moist and tasty. What is interesting about this specific Dickey's is that it is run by husband and wife Michael and Ingrid Jackson. Ingrid was an accountant and her husband has owned and operated a construction company for the past 20 years. After Ingrid suffered a severe head injury in a car accident five years ago, she found that bosses were unwilling to hire her - so she went out and started her own. This is a patient and loving couple that deserve the best. But getting back to brass tacks - the food and service are worth the trek, so check it out.

I was really shocked at how terrible this place was. Meats were excellent, but the sides were awful. The beans just lacked flavor, and the jalapeño beans didn't help that any. My daughter hated the mac and cheese, and I thought it was pretty terrible also. Maybe I was just unlucky on my one visit, but there are definitely better bbq joints out there.

First time to a Dickeys. The people were nice. The meats were varied. The turkey breast was the best item we ordered. Pulled pork and biscuit were both fairly dry. Not horrible but not great. First main complaint is the BBQ sauce selection. There are three and in our opinion all three were not to our liking. Next is the plastic glasses for drinks. They don't have paper glasses or ones they wash. They are thick plastic glasses I guess they expect you to take home and keep. It seems like a huge waste to me. They have the good, Sonic-type ice and FREE soft serve ice-cream. Will go back once more to get another experience.

As someone who grew up in the south I was a bit skeptical when I first came in for dinner. I was shocked on how much it didn't suck; i was expecting the worst. It was pretty darn good. You can snag a good deal if you get one of the daily specials, which is what I did, and the staff was pretty friendly.

Great place to get take out. The chicken hoagie is my favorite by far meat is always moist. My husband says the brisket is fatty he really didn't like it but the pulled pork was decent. I have to remind then not to chop my meat up so much because if I let them do it their way I end up with tuna like chicken. And last but not least the fried okra is simply AMAZING I have not had okra this good in my whole life!! My only compliant is the self serve sauce warmer is extremely HOT it is a law suit waiting to happen.

Service is terrible and the food was WAY over priced. $30 for almost nothing. Could of gone to famous dave's and actually got way more food for $30.

Let me preface this review by saying the food is okay - not great - it's the service that sucks! I entered the Thornton store at approximately 4:30pm today for a late lunch. It was not too busy and there was only a family of three ordering in front of me. They seemed to be having difficulty getting what they wanted, baked potatoes I believe, but they went on and on. Just when I thought they had completed their order they would announce another item. The employee who was taking the order appeared to be making it as they conversed. I stood there for at least ten minutes with no acknowledgement even though there were at least five employees behind the counter. One even came out and refilled a ketchup bottle on the table I was standing next to. At this point a line was beginning to form and the ongoing order was too much so I left. I headed over to the store on Sheridan. When I entered there were two women ordering and a couple waiting behind them. The women ordered an XL Family Pack with multiple extra sides to go. All of this was prepared by two of the five available employees as we waited. After approximately 10-12 minutes the couple in front of me ordered the daily special with several "have it your way" substitutions and additions. This was to go as well. By the time I got to place my order I had been standing there for at least 15 minutes. In most fast casual restaurants you place your order and go sit down so that the next person can place an order. I don't understand why your business model is an exception. It is ridiculously slow and frustrating and certainly does not seem efficient as only half of the employees are doing anything at any given moment. I also do not understand why so many people choose to come inside to order take out. I order and pay over the internet in those cases and only have to dash in and grab my order with no inconvenience to the sit down customers. The drive through would be another good option, take out is the reason you actually have drive up windows. If I had this much trouble at non-peak times I shudder to imagine how bad it is at peak times. My last take out order by the way, at your Colfax and Wadsworth location, was not ready when I arrived. Nobody had seen it come across your system even though there were three employees and only one customer in the store. I hate to complain but geez, you need to do something about this. I'm new to the state and maybe Coloradan's don't see it as an issue but I am a fairly patient person and all three instances really bugged the crap out of me. In closing this review let me just say use some more tea bags for Pete's sake! If I'm gonna pay two and a half bucks for iced tea I want it to be strong enough to taste. Your sweet tea tastes more like sweet water.

Wonderful service! They offered tastes of everything my husband and I werent sure about. The manger/owner? came out and made sure everything was fresh for us. They were having a deal on the desserts (pie slices for a buck) and when my husband got the apple pie, the owner told him to bring it back up after his lunch and he would heat it up for him. The food was absolutely delicious and the restaurant was super clean. The staff was so friendly that I really thought I was back in the south for a minute.

Dropped by yesterday during their Grand Opening day. Got there around 11ish and there was a long wait, though that was to be expected. Anyhow, finally got to the front and was able to order. I got the two meat plate which comes with 2 sides, roll, pickles & onions. For the two meats I chose the Beef Brisket and Polish sausage. The sides I got to accompany my meal were Fried Okra and Green Beans w/Bacon. The brisket was moist and the sausage just as good. Fried Okra is what you typically get when ordering that one. The green beans were a bit disappointing in terms of flavor. Otherwise the roll was so soft I wanted another. Overall food was better than what I was expecting. It's nice to have a BBQ place in the area now so I don't have to travel so far when the urge hits. Price is fair with delicious food with an accommodating atmosphere to match. I will definitely go again once the hype of this one opening dies down a bit to try some of the other items on the menu.

The food came out cold, the service was terrible, and we burned our fingers. They keep their barbecue sauce in a warmer which was nice but it was too hot and you poor the sauce into little plastic cups for your plates, hence the burned fingers. This was our second time visiting here that the food has come out cold. Unfortunately we will not be back. The barbecue is not that good.

I am a self proclaimed BBQ enthusiast. I'm Texan. I worked at a top 50 (per Texas Monthly) BBQ restaurant in Fort Worth for 5 years. I know what good Texas BBQ is. We ate at Dickey's in Allen, TX for awhile a long time ago. It was good, had family coupons frequently and was closer. Not the best TX BBQ, but not bad. Then one day we showed up to find that they were selling fish, and changed the look of the kitchen to "hide" more from view. We never went back, That was maybe 12 years ago, I visited the Thornton location after moving to Denver and working near there. I came to expect $15 for lunch with a sliced brisket sandwich, two sides, and a 1/4 lb of jalepeno sausage. Always filling. Good portions. The staff is never over the top excited, but it's okay because I'm not expecting "flare" to be tossed around in a BBQ joint. What sets this location apart from the Westminster location that I was very disappointed in, is quality of food and presentation. Go check out the picture of what I ordered at Westminster vs. Thornton. Westminster gave me four pieces of sausage, which didn't even cover the bottom bun. Now see the photo I uploaded of my Thornton lunch. Shocking. Yes, I ordered something similar yet different, but the point is that Thornton gets that presentation is important. If you only give 4 pieces of sausage, be creative with said portion. Slice it thinner, hide the inadequacy of portion size with presentation. Thornton, I'll be back. In fact, already have been three times since my dismal Westminster experience.

My kids and I love this place. However, my husband does not. I think the staff is very friendly and keeps the place clean. We love the pulled pork and brisket. Make sure you try the mashed potato casserole and bacon green beans because they are very delicious sides. You also get all you can eat free ice cream cones. This place is good for a fast dinner and has a couple family options to choose from. If you don't feel like cooking and want something quick and simple for dinner, come here.
