While driving cross country, we ended up spending the night in Parachute, CO. This restaurant is opened by Vance Johnson from The Denver Broncos. There's jerseys, plaques, and tons of other memorabilia throughout the restaurant. Although business was incredibly slow, We were definitely surprised at the quality of the food here. Ordered half a rack of baby back ribs with a side of cole slaw and beans. We definitely left satisfied. If I ever find myself on this side of town again, will definitely stop back over here to fill a BBQ craving!

Pretty much like eating a plate of leftovers. I was thinking it was a bbq place but more like a bbq sauce place. Brisket dry, pulled pork dry. The ribs seem broiled. No smoke ring, no smoke flavor. The chicken was ok though. If you're on I70.....just keep truckin.

This little place right off of the highway was pretty awesome. It was a completely unexpected surprise and was even better when I realized it was Vance Johnson from the "3 Amigos" and the mid 80's Denver Broncos team! The Bronco Burger was great and filled me to the brim with BBQ pulled pork goodness. The staff was very friendly and very attentive. We even got to meet Vance's mom and she talked about how her and Vance came to run a restaurant in Parachute, CO. If you are looking for a place to stop on a road trip on the western side of the Rockies, put this place on the list.

Pulled pork was outrageously good. I have stopped off for barbecue at places that are supposed to be the best that St. Louis and Kansas City have to offer and the pork here was right up there with them. This place does not look like much from the roadside but if it is lunch or dinner time and you need a place to stop, then I can't imagine there is a better spot to be. Smoked shredded pork sandwich: A+ Steak salad with steak cooked to order: A+ Homemade potato salad: A+ Our waitress was extremely friendly. After chatting a bit and learning that we have injected a bit of a barbecue sub-theme into our cross country drive she ran over to the kitchen to make sure we could sample their brisket and fried chicken both of which were good but not as good as the things we ordered xD.

VJ's Outlaw Ribs and Vance Johnson's Outlaw Ribbs are the same place and unfortunately it is NOW CLOSED. VJ's was a mainstay in Parachute for years, offering great BBQ and steaks to locals and the oilfield alike. Their food was good and there was plenty of it. Unfortunately, VJ's succumbed to the downturn in the oil business, like so many businesses here in the Grand Valley. VJ's will be missed. It was replaced by a Weiner Schnitzel that has opened in one of the gas stations. smh....

Dang, this is some good barbeque!! Spent the night in Parachute, and had to find some dinner. I'd heard good things about VJ's so I decided to stop in. Very glad I did!! I'm not that much of a carnivore, but everything I had was AMAZING. I ordered the 3-sampler plate and chose baby back ribs, brisket, and pork. From the many available sides I got the mashed potatoes and corn. The "sampler" turned out to be pretty much full-sized servings of each meat. Everything was meltingly tender and perfectly seasoned. The mashed potatoes were real, with a few chunks to prove it. The corn had been seasoned and finished off on the grill - so good! I stashed the leftovers in my Holiday Inn fridge, and they pretty much froze overnight, so I was able to transport them on my 4-hour trip back home. Not gonna waste fine barbeque like this! Next time I'm up Parachute way, you bet I'm stopping back in for more.

An excellent lunch spot... A little hidden gem in western Colorado. The pulled pork sandwich and bread pudding are some of the best in the state. Well done VJ!!!

Best BBQ I have had (besides my husband's). This is the real deal with homemade everything! Gino, the pit master takes his BBQ very seriously... And it shows! He and the entire staff went above and beyond in their service, accommodating 4 adults and 5 kids. This is definitely a new family favorite and a permanent stop when passing through the Western Slope.

I stopped here on my I-70 haul. It's the real deal. Everything was clean and the service was friendly but note that this is an old-style roadhouse like we used to have in the good old days, so expect the customer base to match. Luckily, the food matches that too. Meat, meat, and more meat. This is not a place for fru-fru metro-sexual-vegetarians. That makes the delicious ribs & brisket all the more enjoyable that you don't have to put up with that crap. More added fun was that I met the owner, former Denver Bronco great Vance Johnson himself. He was more than happy to oblige me with a few football stories and tales of life in the NFL which were fun to hear. That definitely makes it added fun for the football fan, and the waitress said he is an active owner and in the restaurant "all the time" so probably a reasonable chance of getting to hear his stories when you go.
