I love me some Tokyo Joes! Tasty and super healthy options. This one in particular is near my office. I usually get the make your own bowl with half the rice and double the white chicken. GF Teriyaki is fantastic. Staff are really nice however they've messed up my order, or a person in my party's order, in some way the last 3 times I have gone. They've attempted to make up for it each time. That's saying something?

What a great place for lunch. The employees are great and the Yakitor bowl was very good. Thanks Tokyo Joe's

Had a pretty sub-par experience here. I do NOT recommend the salads. They are pitiful. (I got a bowl with spinach, two cherry tomatoes, and a slice of chicken thin as printer paper). I think you can eat well if you make your own bowl with meat/tofu and rice. Lesson learned.

My siblings were trekking back to Ohio and were craving Japanese. Reading the Yelp reviews online, we decided to make the stop into Tokyo Joe's. Boy, were we disappointed. I ordered a Joe's Roll- the rice was hard and stale, plus the cucumber tasted sour. Brother #1 ordered gyoza, steak udon and a california roll. All of which was flavorless and bland. Brother #2 ordered chicken satay and the sauce was just so watery. Sister ordered chicken udon and it over-peppered. Instead of complaining, we just grumbled, ate the food then left. Overall, it cost us almost $35 for everything we ordered. Definitely was NOT worth the 5 miles it took us to get there from Interstate-70. I think we would've done better at the Mexican joint next door. Very disappointing.

Ordered to go from the app a number of times and it is never ready at the appointed time. Have to wait as much as 15-20 minutes more. Definitely defeats the purpose of the app if you aren't organized enough to fill the orders

Is this place worthy of even one star? Oh hell no! This was my first visit and will defitenly be my last. So not worth the $9.68 I was bilked out of. The rice was horrible, the steak was fatty and tasteless and the teriyaki sauce was lackluster. But the most DISGUSTING part were the 3 hairs I found imbedded in my food. So gross! It would be better served up in flames.

I go into this location weekly. The service is great and the food is very good as well. I love making my own bowl and having some Tatake Nigiri as well or some Crab Rolls. This is one of the healthiest places I have found to eat out. Many of the selections are low fat and low calorie. I like that they are not trying to be authentic Japanese. If you become a Joes Addict, they will send you some very nice offers through out the year.

I love the steak bowl with Peanut Sauce. Can't seem to get enough of it. Always clean, fast and friendly service.

Tokyo Joe's is a necessary part of my weekly routine. I don't know how I would survive without eating here at least once a week...... I was so elated when I found this chain years ago that I nearly wept from the joy my mouth and my heart experienced..... happy tears people. Happy tears. For quite some time I had been yearning for delicious affordable HEALTHY fast food. I had even contemplated selling all of my belongings and risking it all to try and embark upon an entrepreneur's journey of creating a healthy fast food chain when I stumbled upon TOKYO JOES!!!!! I have always enjoyed japanese food and do believe that this chain was brilliant. The menu is acceptable for just about any diet.... and as a vegan I often run into extremely limited options. I can mix things up and create a few really nice meals as a vegan at Tokyo Joe's. I do hope that they will expand the menu with a few slight alterations which would really branch out their vegan selections. This location in particular has a GREAT friendly staff. I would like to praise Mike in particular..... I work in an environment where I can not leave for lunch. I call in my order and send someone that can leave to pick up the food. There are plenty of times that I am met with short impatient service - being a vegan and making 'special requests' - but I have NEVER had that happen when I call the Joe's. Today I was greeted with outstanding customer service and patience. I make a few alterations to the menu items to ensure that they are vegan... you know - exclude this - add that... and Mike was outstanding and pleasant. My food even arrived with a smiley face drawn on the lid. A small and kind gesture which made my day!!!! The food was DELISH as usual. Always fresh and exquisite vegetables - lots of flavor without unhealthy strange unpronouncable ingredients...... my kind of lunch. Thanks Tokyo Joe's on Union... and thanks Mike.

If you have any frame of reference for japanese food don't go here.

Tried the Joe's Bowl, which is basically an udon bowl gone wrong. Instead of algae, they put in spinach. The broth tasted too sweet and putting chicken in an udon bowl was a wrong decision on their part. They're probably trying to come up with a westernized udon, but it failed miserably. I tried the sushi and it was okay. It won't get you sick, but you can definitely get better elsewhere. Wouldn't come here again.

This place is to Japanese food as to Chipotle is to Mexican. It is completely not Japanese. Expect weird combinations of Japanese ingredients cooked in a very American way. Food: Joe's offers some nigiri sushi, sides like gyoza, and bowls. I tried the Oyako bowl ( yelp.com/biz_photos/uA7z… ) which was supposed to have dark chicken, egg, and broth on top of rice. After searching for the egg in vain, I decided that the weird proteinaceous debris covering just about everything in the bowl was not pate, but the missing egg. I am still baffled as to how they managed to turn egg into that. Ambiance: The interior is lit with several red lanterns clustered in the middle of the spacious restaurant. I really liked this aspect, but I couldn't help but notice how they stole the brushed metal motifs from Chipotle. Service: You can leave your plates on the table and leave. No unsightly trays. Nice touch. Synopsis: For $6.50, I got a ton of rice, chicken, and previously unidentified substance. Good value and great taste, but the egg really grossed me out.

Yelp folks - please add a GLUTEN FREE and VEGAN tag to this place! Us gluten free vegans know how hard it is to find a great place to eat! The people here were so helpful when I told them what I needed. They have several GF sauces - I had the GF Teriyaki and it is very tasty. Service was quick and the brown rice Boulder Veggie Bowl is awesome. Plant strong all the way! I'll be back - probably tomorrow!

Good, for an Americanized Japanese food chain. The bowls can be overly saucy, so be sure to order light sauce. The sushi rolls have creative ingredients and decent quality - but watch out for rice crumbling. I actually come here for a sushi fix every now and then, as the portions of fish are quite generous, and at less than $4 an order, I'm not too concerned about how traditionally cut they are.

Tokyo Joe's is decent and quick but not great if you really like Japanese/Asian food. Although these flavors are sooo much better than what can be found at Noodles or Pei Wei's. I am not impressed with the tiny spring rolls. You can find much bigger and better at real asian places...esp. those on Federal near Alameda. I did really like the spicy-ake sauce on my noodles/chicken/veggies. I am surprised that the price goes up so much for added veggies. For this dish and a soda my bill was a bit more than $9. Three stars because it is good enough food when you are shopping in the area or eating before a movie. But I still prefer authentic asian restaurants.

Love this place! Awesome food, super-quick service, and a way to eat like a king and still be healthy.

It is what it is....nothing more, nothing less. Didn't like the gyoza at all...

On sushi nights they some some really good rolls that you can't usually get. The downside of this location is that it's right next to a Chipotle, so I always have a hard time choosing where to go.

Pretty good for fast Japanese food. Just like another review said... It's analogous to Chipotle for Mexican food. Awesome part about this place is that they had sushi! Granted the quality is like the lower-mid range sushi places. However, if u really want sushi for cheap without having to wait for it long or paying a tip, this is the place!

Good staff, good fast-casual Japanese food. I like their bowls with noodles instead of rice, and their Spicyaki sauce. This particular location has never done me wrong, and are quick and professional.

The food is amazing! Five Stars for the food! The service was lacking. I ordered online b/c I work in the next building. I walked in, and there was a line of 6 people, so I walked over to the side where people grab their food. And I stood patiently as I watched the lady walk out with a dish to hand to a seated guest - acceptable. Then I watched her look at me with a bitchy face and ignore me. She cleaned a couple of tables and brought more food out to guests. Then she called for the next customer and took their order... and the next. All the while glancing my way on occasion with a subtle glare. Once she was done taking orders, she walked away and got on the phone. After all the customers in line were served, I grew impatient and walked up to the register to get my food. It was sitting on the counter right in front of where I had been standing [behind a sign, so I couldn't see it at the time], and where the mean-mugger was walking back and forth. She even stared right at it a few times while she was throwing things away. The other girl taking orders happily grabbed my food for me, and after waiting for 5 minutes for an online order that was to be ready to go when I walked in the door, I was able to walk out. If you know you have online ordering as an option, and you see somebody skip the line, MAYBE they're the person who ordered something online. Finish the one task you're completing and ask - hell, ask WHILE you're completing that task. Five Stars for the lady who helped me. Negative Two Stars for the lady who outright and rather PMS-ily ignored me.

This was my first go around at Joe's. I ordered some spicy chicken and rice as well as sushi. It wasn't that bad of a price for what I received. The chicken was juicy and the rice sticky. The sushi didn't feel homemade, but wasn't too bad. The service was good and the food delivered to the table. They have a nice outside area to sit with umbrellas. I'm sure I will be back.

A worker there by the name of Qwynn is such a excellent worker, she honestly showed the most work and loyalty to the company, such a beautiful girl and the love of my life :) glad she works there because this was the first Tokyo joes I've eaten at.

Hmm, nothing is authentic here but at least the sushi is a little bit better than the bowls, IMO. The biggest problems with their rice bowls are 1) barely cooked veggies (how hard is it to thoroughly steam/blanch the frozen veggies so that they don't taste grassy?!?) and 2) over sauced every time. I enjoyed the grilled salmon and BF's grilled steak was not bad (still had some pink in the center, A for not overcooking it). My ramen was in between real ramen and the instant package kind, but at least the latter is more identifiable. So I don't know what noodles they use at Tokyo Joe's but it's a bit weird. The staff, as always, is very courteous. I'd come again if they have deals like $5 BYO bowls on Wednesdays, stuff like that...

We live in between this location on Union and the one in Denver West! This location is so much better. The people are welcoming and friendly, the food quality it fresh and amazing and the cleanliness is 100% better. Love the soy ginger dressing on our salad and as our sauce for the bowl. Also the portions are huge, we never leave this place hungry. Also don't forget to get a punch card to earn free bowls! It's a great deal! Lastly, you can eat pretty healthy here, which is always a plus

Quick stop to refuel after the gym today. I love Tokyo Joe's ! Healthy Fresh Fast I really appreciate the friendly staff and their willingness to accommodate their customers nutritional needs. I know many many fitness competitors, bodybuilders and local professional athletes who frequent their local Tokyo Joe's and share my same views. If you have never tried them out-- plan to sometime soon!!

Love this place. The mahi mahi bowl with brown rice is my favorite. The Yo rolls are also very good. Clean with friendly staff. Must try.

The broth was watery. Very mild. Manager wanted to tell me that Tokyo joes is not fast food. Somehow I don't believe the man behind the counter was a certified sushi chef. I don't eat fast food sushi. My trust level is low when fish is not cut in front of me. The general joes was ok, filled my stomach for $7.47. Not as good as a bowl that I normally would order.

Im giving it 4 stars because of the fantastic service I received from Ian. The food was average at best. Not bad for a quick meal that is healthy.

I will be the King of this place soon :-) Love this place and they wrap the best sushi of all the TJ's in town here. Always fast, always clean and I'm always full when I leave. They usually have different specials going on for Fob holders and I love getting that Free bowl or roll when my punch card fills up. So if you're looking for something on the healthier side, this is a good option.

I wish I could say I liked it better. The Sunomono was super sour. Too much rice vinegar and not enough other ingredients. The "Zushi" had the worst tasting California Roll I've ever had and had hard rice for their tuna and salmon nigiri. The staff was very nice and the food was out fast, but the food was sub-par.

  • Pam C.

Reviews are all over the place here. It's a 3. If you're "craving Japanese food", don't go here. It's "mock" Japanese. If you want something healthier than you're standard fast food, this is it. Mad Greens is close by - that would be an even better option. Service here was ok. I ordered the Mahi Mahi bowl. Boring. Fish was dry. With tax, it was $9.08. Really not worth the price. Okay place, but don't plan to return anytime soon.

The staff at this particular Joe's makes it my favorite spot! Michelle, the manager, took care of my husband and I after a particularly bad salad once, and so we always go back now to see her. Thanks for always being awesome, kids!

The food here was edible. I don't know how there are so many of these chains, but I guess this location was particularly crappy. First time was bad so we called it a fluke and tried again. Second time was ok, but not good. Not going again.

I had the ramen and spicy tuna roll. Both were decent and served quickly. The prices were good as well. Not a specialty Japanese restaurant, but decent if you want something quick without being awed.

  • Laura A.

Anyone craving "real" Japanese look further because you won't quite find what you are looking for here. However, if you are looking for a Japanese spin, a fast meal that will have you feeling healthy when you leave rather than saturated fat bloat then give this place a try. I stop in for a quick lunch on a routine basis, I really love all their salads and when I want a quick sushi fix I also get the tuna roll. Ingredients in the salad are always fresh and the dressing choices are unique and yummy. The sushi isn't the best and isn't the worst, but still hits the spot. Service is always friendly and fast.

I used to eat at Tokyo Joe's a lot, but then they changed something in their peanut sauce and I really started hating the taste. It seemed like everything on the menu tastes the same. So I had not been in a while when a friend asked to meet her for lunch there. I was surprised how busy they were yet the service was fast and friendly, I gave the peanut sauce a try and liked it! I still think I could get sick of it very fast but it was nice to see that their food was no longer bland. I like this location although it looks like parking could get sticky with a huge lunch crowd.
