I used to live down the block from Gregorio's and still go there when I'm in the hood.. It's a great little colo-mex style place. the el burro martain is fab and big. the steak chimi's also make my mouth water. very friendly staff and down right good food, always a good recipe. Oh and go on a Thurs and you'll get a mariachi concert

Very good portions with an authentic home cooked flair. The food is very richly seasoned, and well prepared. The tortilla chips were still hot. Great prompt service

I had the Burro; er, El Burro to be exact. The portion was decently sized for the price. The meat was nicely seasoned, slightly spicy. Although admittedly, I'm always a bit leery of ground beef at a Mexican restaurant. They bring out chips and salsa to start. The chips were tasty. Light and lightly salted. But the salsa left much to be desired. It had a nice kick to it but it was very thin, pretty much runny. Hardly any visible chunks of tomato, onions, pepers, etc. Overall, it was decent food but nothing to rave about. The best thing I can say is that the food didn't give me a stomachache.

Was not bad at all. Nice, tender chunks of pork in the green chili.

I can't not say the name of this place without sounding like The Count! It just sounds like it should be a magician's name. :) I'll get to the food now. I have eaten here once. The good things: the chicken was really good and tasted like they had cooked it and shredded it fresh that day and the service was great. The not so good things: they smother everything in chili sauce so you can barely tell what you're eating and the food is soooooooo greasy. I love Mexican food and I know it can be greasy, but this was a little ridiculous. I thought the prices were a little high for what you get too. I think they wanted like $6 for a breakfast burrito! W, get over yourselves! Again it's packed all the time, which leads me to believe that most people around here don't really know what good Mexican food is (see Taco House review). You can do better elsewhere!

Used to live close and eat there almost once a week. Went there on vacation recently and they have really gone down hill! Green chili is now watery with hardly any pork. Large extra charge for side of sour cream ( no longer needed for the cooling effect)! Dirty, getting smelly and just not worth it anymore - go to Mile Hi Flea Market - best green chili ever!

Best deep fat fried Steak chimichanga I have ever had. The chips were salty, but that's the way I like them. The wait staff was excellent. I loved that the waitresses wore authentic Mexican dresses.

I could smell the lard when we got out of the car and started walking in to the restaurant. A good sign? Their dishes are a good representation of typical Colorado/Tex-Mex food. I have to say that my shredded beef burrito smothered in green chili was very good. Why was it good? It probably had something to do with the fact that three pounds of cheese were melted over the top before sour cream and guacamole was added. I couldn't eat too much of my meal out of pure guilt. My companion had cheese enchiladas, and we pretty much couldn't tell our dishes apart. The salsa kind of tasted like tomato sauce with some cilantro thrown in. In fairness to Gregorio's, this place doesn't pretend to be anything else than what it is, Gringo Mexican food. The service was excellent. Fun Fact: The owner used to be an actor in Mexico and you can take a tour of the restaurant and see pictures of him with other famous Mexican actors. Take one look at this guy's awesome mustache and you can see why he was famous.

We had a BOGO and thought we would give it a try. The steak was tough and the pork was bland. I would not suggest this place. Denver has sooooo many better Mexican joints to pick from.

After driving by this place for a year I decided to finally stop in. Im glad I did. The service is great, and the food is pretty tasty. I ordered the enchilada, smothered bean burrito, taco, tostada combo. The enchilada ranks up there with the best I've had in awhile. There was a ton of food and breakfast for the next day. The cook with quite the mustache came out and brought complimentary sopapias, which were hot and delicious. Just a couple little things kept them from 5 stars. Chips were super salty, the chili was so-so, and my taco was pretty greasy. I will definitely go back!

This is the best mexican food I have ever had! The steak chile rellanos are amazing. Gregorio himself can regularly be seen sitting watching tv. If you are lucky he will come talk to you and he is the nicest guy. We joke it is like seeing Mickey Mouse at Disney Land. We moved away from the Denver area and we sometimes make the hour and a half drive just to get steak chile rellanos. You cant find this quality anywhere else trust me I looked.

Gregorio's is our favorite Mexican restaurant. The food is made exactly as it should, flavorful, not overly spicy. The menu has a variety of options and each item we've tried over the last 10 years has been delicious. As much as we love the food and the prompt and friendly service, we look forward to speaking with Gregorio each time we visit the restaurant. Gregorio and his wife make the dining experience that much more fun. How often do you meet the owner of a restaurant you are dining in. Gregorio's pride in his business is obvious in the way he and his staff conduct business. Try the guacamole - it is a full bowl of avocado, not just a little bit smeared over lettuce like most other restaurants. The warm, freshly cooked chips are excellent too.

We went to Gregorio's with a buy-one-get-one coupon yesterday for lunch after the Race for the Cure--it was great to see other people in pink there! Anyway, I actually thought the salsa they brought with the freshly fried tortilla chips was pretty good. It wasn't as much tomato and cilantro as I think someone else mentioned when we had it yesterday; it seemed like spicy smoky chilis to me. Football was on two TVs in the room where we sat, and we were right next to a framed poster advertising a concert in Guadalajara that featured Gregorio, the restaurant's owner, who did show up while we were there--we were excited even if he's not super famous. His moustache is crazy! My boyfriend and I both had combo plates. I got the cheese enchilada, taco and tostada, and he got the beef burrito, taco, and beef enchilada. While I initially thought it was odd that the combos don't come with rice and beans unless stated on the menu, we were so full that neither one of us could finish the three items we each had gotten. The party behind us took home to-go boxes of their unfinished meals, too. We had a good waiter, and the hostess' long hair was intriguing as well. Overall, we liked it and were happy that the Entertainment book introduced us to the place.

I've been to this place a couple of times, and it is fair to say the place is "hit or miss." Sometimes it's pretty good, and other times, not so much. On this visit, it was pretty good. The thing to keep in mind about Gregorio's is that it is a "lard and pork" Mexican restaurant. You have to be careful if you're a vegetarian, or you will end up with lard and pork in unexpected places on your plate. Fortunately, they do have the "whole bean" option, so, if you ask for them, you can avoid the refries made with lard. Just about everything else on the menu has some type of meat or meat byproduct in it, and there is nothing vegan unless you want to go with the salad. We chose the cheese enchilada plate. We ended up with a big plate of three enchiladas, (most places only give two), whole beans, and Mexican rice. I am not certain the Mexican rice was completely vegetarian, (may have had chicken broth), but, all in all, a pretty good selection for a Mexican restaurant of this type. The restaurant, itself, is not very big, and resembles more a diner with a Mexican theme, but it does have the feel of authenticity, and, at least on this visit, the staff was very friendly and accommodating. The place was also packed, so I might assume it is a favorite with locals. I cannot verify this, but I have been told that Gregorio's is owned and operated by the brother of the guy who owns Hilario's over on 44th. The food is similar in style with subtle variations, but Hilario's restaurant is just slightly more fancy. I consider both to be very authentic in what I would expect from Colorado/Southwest Mexican - mostly bean and tortilla dishes with lots of chili. Most people can do alright here, and the prices are very fair, but just don't go here expecting anything too fancy. It's a neighborhood place, and should be considered in that light.

the positives: very friendly staff, good chips, and good salsa. in fact, i would probably stop by just to order some salsa to go. because it is a family-owned place and the staff is so freaking nice, it's hard to give it a bad review but the food there just isn't good. denver has a surprising amount of good mexican food so gregorio's doesn't rank too high when compared to other places. i had menudo, which i generally love, and it was so bland and overcooked. my brother ordered tamales and they were also bland but had a surprising amount of heat, which i know sounds contradictory so the conclusion i came to was that they added capsaicin because chile usually adds flavor and heat. i could be wrong but that's what it tasted like. basically, everything tasted like mexican food out of a can. sad. sad. sad.

Great food. Family owned and operated. The food is fresh and flavorful. Owners are delightful for greeting all their customers. Chips and salsa to start and their enchiladas are delicious. Good guacamole, too. My only complaint would be the musicians are a bit overwhelming (volume) for such a small restaurant. Good prices and I would recommend.

Great food at reasonable prices (this is the sister restuarant of Hilarios on 38th). Every Thursday (I think) they have a live mariachi band in the restaurant which is fun, but you'll only need this experience one. They'll blow your eardrums out and you'll be asking for more. Overall, a suburban Mexican paradise. Get the sirloin rellenos, you won't regret it.

If you are a soup lover, this may be the place for you. I consider myself a soup connoisseur, and will try the soup about anywhere. Gregorio's Shrimp Soup is one of my favorites. It is the only thing I order. It is a broth based soup, probably chicken broth, with maybe a touch or tomato. Thin sliced potatoes, green peppers, and rice add to the mix along with peeled shrimp. The spicy broth is just the thing if you need pepping up in any way. It comes in a huge bowl, and is well worth the price. The fish and shrimp soup is also good, but I am really focused on the broth and the taste, so I just go for the shrimp. The friend who introduced me to Gregorio's highly recommends the chicken soup, and my husband always enjoys the enchiladas, but I can't really say too much about anything other than the soup. Which is five stars all by itself.

I would classify this restaurant as a neighborhood gem. The Mexican food was definitely solid. My husband had the huevos rancheros and absolutely loved them. I had a combination which was pretty good. I really liked that the tostada shell was shaped almost like a taco shell. So smart! Why doesn't any other restaurant do this? Otherwise all of the stuff falls off. I'm not sure that I would drive terribly far out of my way to come here. But I would definitely be back if I were in the area. The prices are reasonable and the service was good.

So you think that all Mexican restaurants offer large food portions? You haven't seen a large portion until you have visited this place. Their plates are mounds of food piled so high that it's almost like watching an episode of "Man vs Food." This would be great if their food was delicious but sadly, this is not the case. Gregorio's food is somewhat bland and lacking in both spice and flavor. Mediocre American- Mexican blend at best. On a positive note, the waiting staff if very attentive.

What a find!!! I had the most delicious Streak Rellenos ever. The owner came to our table to greet us. Service was great, food proportions large and delicious. Atmosphere was not special in any way. It looked like a takeout sub shop. I only hope I get to visit Denver again, because I can taste tis delight once more. Yum!!

Def a neighborhood gem! Service is great- the owner came to our table a couple times to check on us. Our waiter was pleasant and kept our drinks filled... And the food was fantastic! I ordered fried flour tacos (off menu) and my gf had cheese enchiladas both portions were well sized. If we lived in town this would be a weekly spot! Enjoy it locals- we're jealous that we're not closer!

Was in this neck of the woods and thought I'd drop by for old sakes... Had their Chile Rellanos combo, which comes with fried beans, rice & a small salad on the plate, lots of cheese. Good food...

I've been a customer of this family owned restaurant for years. Consistency in fabulous service, food and reasonable prices. Don't pass this place up. It will become a favorite for you. P.S. Sopapillas are very good. Don't forget to try them before you leave.

Food is terrible and highly overpriced, green chile is watery and flavorless, Chicharones are greasy & rubbery. Paid over $30 for two breakfast entrees. Don't waste your time or money. Eat elsewhere.

Was really hoping this was going to be a great local, authentic find. Came in after Sundays broncos game and was highly disappointed in the food, drinks, and facility. Pre-made Margs poured from the server - nothing but mix. Food was good portions but meat was well over cooked and flavorless. Service was good. Ambiance was pretty bad with the exception of nice new HD TVs. Always seems packed so maybe Sunday nights are just bad? Likely not going back. Oh ya, and the prices were really high all things considered (11/entree).

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
