Update: We've been here many more times since leaving the last review, and the food AND its speed of delivery have improved considerably, it seems! Glad this has become one of our regular places.

This restaurant called the cops on me and my pregnant daughter!!!! We ordered burrito supremes. The food was absolutely terrible. Hostess came by and refilled our drinks but the waiter never came back. We didn't eat our food it was so gross. After waiting and waiting for our bill, we walked out. Came home to the police waiting for me at my house. Unbelievable!!!!! The Jeffco sheriff told me to go back and pay the bill. Went back to restaurant and two more cop cars waiting for me!!!!! What a joke. Then I go in to pay and they said we ate all our food. Liars!!!!!! Stay away from this place, you might end up in jail!!!

Maybe the best salsa I have ever had. I liked it so much I took some home. Chips are not as high quality as the salsa, but it may have been because I came late on a Sunday. Food is fresh with great flavor. Service is a little slow.

El Senor Sol is awsome. We have been going there for years. Even on a bad night it is better than other places. The Poblanos Royal and the Carnitas plate are 2 dishes I have to choose between each time. The Ceviche app is really good, and there is a lot of it. The Shrimp Cocktail is another classic and for something lighter, try the Tacos de Adobada. My tried and true favorites. I am not sure about some other reviews. The food is plentiful, the price pretty decent, and everyone is very friendly. The salsa is a bit warm, but not scorching. The first round is free. The ice tea glass is huge, that's why the straw needs some attention. Better than small glasses though. The bathroom was reported dirty in a previous post, but I have never seen it. They have always been clean in my opinion. They are actually kind of cute, with sun sinks and Mexican nic-nacs. I would recommend El Senor Sol any time you are looking for good Mexican in Denver.

Having just moved to Golden from downtown, I always noticed that the lot is always full at this place. Finally tried it. Good service, cheap booze, free chips and....oh so blah food. Really, really, weak and bland and chewy adobada and carne asada. A step down from even average Mexican food. Too bad.

Good Mexican food. I had the combo platter with a chicken burrito, chile relleno and tamale smothered in Greene chile.

We ordered the nachos with queso dip instead of the shredded cheese. It is divine. Went three days in a row while we were in town.

Good atmosphere and staff are nice but food is just mediocre. Not too hot temperature-wise and nothing to write home about.

I agree this place used to be fabulous, but the service and the food quality have gone downhill. I used to eat there every week now I go about every three months just to see if it's gotten any better and continue to feel disappointed each time! With no apologies!

Could I rate them a ZERO! The food took a long time to get to us and it was COLD. The waiter then took a really long time getting my debit card back to me. I find out today that someone in Fort Collins ... almost 2 hours away ... used my debit card 15 minutes after the Senor Sol waiter took my card. OMG. HIs best friend in Fort Collins used my card? Can you spell FRAUD at Senor Sol!!!!

Fabulous Mexican food, great flavor and good service. Recommend it every time! The carne asada steak is delicious and their pitcher margaritas are pretty good. Fortunately worth stopping in!

I have eaten here several times before I logged into Yelp. Out of the meals, I was compensated once for an incorrect order, which I liked. overall the food is good. The chicken burrito supreme, good, very filling. The rellano's awesome, but the fajita burrito did fit my taste.

Went to to this place because I stayed working in golden and an always in search of good Mexican food. The drink prices were pretty standard. The food v was priced somewhat low, the quality was pretty average. I ordered a chicken enchilada, it had barely any meat on the plate. For how cheap it is can't really complain. The service is great and the atmosphere is lively. Probably not planning on going back though.

I had the taco salad and my wife had the the seafood enchiladas. Both dishes were very good, but a little slow from the kitchen. Service was good and we will come back!

Very disappointed with the meal. Dried Mexican rice, yesterday's cold beans, soggy flautas and shredded beef. Probably King Sooper's chips. My suggestion as a former chef, redo menu. The one star goes to the waitress.

My dad and I took my kids to lunch here. The parking lot seems like it's always full, so we figured that the food had to be good. The chips were stale and my dad said the salsa was too hot, although I didn't have a problem with it. I had the steak burrito, which was pretty good. There was a spice in it that made some bites very hot. My son had the chicken enchilada plate and didn't really eat much of it. I don't know if it was because it was too spicy or what. My dad didn't really comment on his food. There are a ton of people who check on tables, and it seems like various employees are always moving around and doing something. Some times they came to the table when we needed them, but after we got our food and toward the end, the service was a bit more sparse. When I received a refill on my tea, they didn't add any ice to it, so my drink was warm. Blech. I heard one employee asking the table behind us if things were spicy, or if there was too much. Maybe the cook got a little too excited with his spice shakers. I don't think I'll be back.

The food ok, but this place is over priced and had poor service. The margaritas are weak and not worth the money.

I hate to rate this place so low... because the staff was kind, the atmosphere was nice, etc. The food on the other hand was not so good. I had the seafood enchiladas and they were extremely salty with fake crab and not sure what else. The waitress removed the charge from my bill, which I was very appreciative of and did not expect. My boyfriend had the chimichanga which was "so-so". Great service, not so great food -- but I suggest you try it yourself!

El Señor got Sol baby! As many times as I have been here I have never had a bad experience. I started coming here on Saturday afternoons with a friend after we had enough of work (and before we got the beer fridge at the office...) for a few drinks and chips and salsa. We always sat in the bar and had the same waiter who was cute as a button and extremely nice and attentive. Then we ventured into the food side of things and OH MAH GAH! I have never had anything there I didn't like. Everything has a great flavor and kick to it. From the salsa which they seem to change randomly (that isn't a bad thing either) to the meat in the burritos, tacos, or what have you. The margaritas are fan-flippin-tastic. The last time I was there I was challenged to a duel with the fishbowl margarita, I accepted said challenge and was really glad when I finished that I was NOT driving home. Prices are reasonable, staff is friendly and service is great. The decorations are kitschy but I have learned to overcome that and focus on what is really important. The food. I wouldn't say I'm a regular here by any means (at least any more) but I do love coming here.

I am literally obsessed with this restaurant, and bug my sister to go with me at least every couple of weeks. Food is great, prices are great, staff is great. I have never been let down. Giant margaritas and fiesta tacos. What more could you possibly want in life. Oh and fried ice cream!

I've been eating here since 2010 and all I have to say is that they have gone down hill. Their food used to be amazing. I went there today and was so disappointed that I wasted $17.00 for food I ended up not eating. First of all it is way overpriced. Almost $3.00 for a soda?! I ordered the combination plate for $11.00. It had a crispy rellano, a smothered bean burrito and a tamale. Most places include rice and beans with a combo plate but not here. Not one of those items was good. All of the food was cold. The rellano was so cold that the cheese inside was not one bit melted. The cheese literally crumbled out of the pepper and felt like it had just come out of the refrigerator. The bean burrito was so cold that the tortilla was stiff. Then we come to the tamale. Ugh....immediately I knew something was wrong because it smelled off. Sure enough, the one bite I took confirmed it. Did they make it out of bacon? Cause that's literally all I tasted. The outside of it was mushy and soggy. Such a disappointment to say that I will never go back.

The waitstaff is slow and inattentive. The person that brings chips and salsa was the best of all. Extra chips and salsa is charged for after 1 basket. I have experienced rice and beans with most mexical restaurants. After ordering a rather pricey burrito there was no rice and beans on the plate. I asked about this an the service that seemed to speak limited english Just said no. The sauce ont he burrito was spicy which will not please those that cannot handle the spicy sauce nor was it very flavorful. I also saw fajitas come out smelling very hot and burned. Not the type of service or food I would expect for the prices they charged.

El Señor Sol translates to, "The Mister Sun." Like its name, the food at El Señor Sol doesn't make any sense in Spanish. For example, while I'm sure it was prepared fresh, I believe the salsa could have doubled as a marijuana sauce. My carnitas were, well, bad. Confusingly, Mr. Sun has the interior furniture of 3 Margaritas, but is not, according to the staff, affiliated. I'm not sure why, but when they ran my American Express, there was no line on the voucher for a tip. So I wrote the tip on the margin, signed, and saw on my statement that they voided the first transaction and added another one. Whatever.

I have gone here several times and although the food seems good, it's not. I have gotten food poisoning twice from eating there. Both times I got sick after eating chips & salsa, beef enchilada, tamales, and beans and rice combination plate. Not ever going back.

About the best thing on the menu are the chips and salsa. I mean the salsa is great! Unfortunately, they charge you a dollar for a refill. Anyways, my co-worker wanted to come here for one of their HUGE, giant ass margeritas; And at $17 he throughly enjoyed it. I ordered the carne adobada with peppers and he got a combo plate. Carne Adobada - It was good, the sauce was great but the meat was tough and more of a steak. Kinda weird that I had to cut some thin slices of pork "steak" and pile it on my torillas. It wasn't like skirt steak fajita, instead extremely thinned out pieces of pork that were a bit tough and chewy. The rice was so-so, the beans were also acceptable. I had a similar dish at Moose Hill Cantina and enjoyed it more there. He enjoyed all three of his dishes. From chile rolleno, beef tacos to chicken enchilada. I finished with churros while he finished with cheesecake chimichangas. Its exactly as it sounds, cheesecake stuffed in a dough and deep fried. He loved it! We both disliked the churros as they were too tough and chewy. The ones at costco are better, way better! So overall, the atmosphere is nice, the service is friendly but sadly where it really counts, the food, its lacking.

Having driven by numerous times noticing a full parking lot, we thought this place must have good food. Unfortunately, that really wasn't the case. It sounds as though the best thing on the menu is the margarita. It comes in a fishbowl. Apparently you need to drink one in order to enjoy the food. Since we did not partake in said fishbowl libation, we did not enjoy our meal that much. My husband had the carne asada. Well, he ordered anyway. The meat was very low quality and he had difficulty picking out the gristle. It was gross. I had the rellenos. These were pretty good, but not remarkable. They use the egg roll wrapping paper though -not exactly the most authentic. My daughter had the quesadilla. It was very greasy. The salsa was great, if you like hot. It's very hot, which I am down with. However, the chips were a little on the burnt side. The staff was friendly but a little slow. Our kid almost fell asleep before we could pay and leave and it wasn't crowded. So I'm unsure what the problem was there. Ambiance was colorful with brightly painted chairs. All in all, I wouldn't recommend this. However the people having the margs didn't seem to mind at all. :)

Atrocious. Not even fit for canine consumption, I didn't even bother to bring a doggy bag home. From the outside this place looks inviting, on weekends the parking lot is packed. Once inside the service was glacially slow. I ordered ice tea with lemon and got a tall glass of tea with a itsy bitsy straw that was so small it didn't even stick up above the top of the glass making you go fish for it each time you wanted to take a drink. The salsa was way too hot...if you're going to offer complimentary salsa you need a medium variety, not nuclear hot to put out on the table. The chips tasted burnt as well. And on top of that they charge beyond the first bowl of salsa....come on, if the salsa is complimentary for the first bowl it should be for the second, or a third to put on the food. When our main plates arrived, we found a cheese enchilada that was not fully melted inside. The beans were runny and had no taste. The tamale I ordered was so flat that I couldn't even finish 1/4 of it. The chicken enchilada had no spices, no real flavor to them. The presentation looked like something a hung over teenager would slop out on a plate. I don't want to be so negative, but even an optimist would be hard pressed to find good things in this place. Decor wise the place wasn't that bad but the restrooms were horrible. I've seen truckstop restrooms in cleaner condition. Missing lights, visible dirt. It was disgusting. Price wise the place is about $1 to $2 too high per plate for the portion size you get. In short...steer clear of this place. 3 hours later my stomach is still upset from the food. I'm very tempted to give the health dept a call in the morning, this place seriously needs an inspection and an update on proper food preparation techniques.

Party of five and a toddler for lunch on a Tuesday. Food arrived fast, was tasty, fresh, and authentic. Wait staff is a bit overattentive. Prices reasonable. I would definitely go back.

Que terible! The best part of my experience here was my beer :( The service was mediocre, the food was not good AT ALL. There is nothing authentic about this place and I will not be returning.

Went there this morning for breakfast. We were the first ones in the door, so expected good service, and good food. Very disappointed. I ordered huevos divorcidas. I asked waitress about both sauces, red and green. Also wanted basted eggs and potatoes instead of rice. This dish comes with black beans. What I got was two eggs, fried, one very soft, one quite hard. Green chile only, no red, refried beans, a few burned potatoes and a big chunk of pork fat! The waitress seemed surprised when I questioned what was on my plate. Hubby had huevos ranchero, again, same mistake with eggs, and corn tortilla instead of flour he requested. The last time there, the food was pretty fair, but medium maguarita is too big for breakfast. Spent a lot of money, so beware of the size you order. Food at Moose Hill, or Gregorio's so much better. Won't go back! Btw, they offer 5 percent discount for cash.

This place is on our regular list. The food here is good. It isn't spectacular but the chips and salsa are good and despite what another reviewer stated they are unlimited with no charge. 3 things to try that I have had more than once are the carnitas, shredded beef burrito and chicken enchilada. My kids like eating there too. If you like margaritas, theirs are quite good and they don't skimp on the tequila. My wife and I usually split the 60 ounce and trust me it's plenty. This place is always crowded which is what first caught our eye to give it a try and I'm glad we did.

So this isn't exactly the best Mexican place in town, but it's still pretty good and about the only decent place in a 5-10 mile range. The food is pretty consistent, and is pretty good at very reasonable prices. Can't be too terrible since I work nearby and everyone from my work goes there for lunch and happy hours all the time. No really, on any given day during the week there are probably 2 or more of my coworkers there. We even had a coworker's baby shower there. No one is jumping up and down over it, but it's a nice place to go. My biggest complaint has been the service. Well mostly the time it takes to get your food. I know they are probably cooking it up then which is great b/c food taste better warm and fresh...however, I'm there on my lunch break, though I can take over 1 hour for lunch I rather not stay late on account of poor service. You'd think at lunch time they'd speed up their service some, have more people working in the kitchen or something, but they don't...or at least they don't have some kind of super chief getting it all done quickly. Despite that, I'll still go as long as I work in the area, b/c at the end of the day you don't feel sick from the food or pain in the wallet.

How come Mexican restaurants never offer combination plates that have both chile rellenos AND tacos? Is it considered in bad form to put the two on the same plate? Well, I found a way around that. At El Senor Sol, you can create your own combo of 3 items from a long list of Mexican favorites. I chose 2 crispy chile rellenos and one crispy beef taco. It was good, it was exactly what I wanted and I didn't have to mess around with the rice and refried beans that normally come with a combo plate. As far as quality goes, it's pretty middle of the road, but for these prices what do you expect?!

Always see this place hopping but it wasn't as good as we hoped. My tacos were soggy. The family next to us found a bunch of used straw wrappers in the bottom of their margarita pitcher. The tamales were all masa and no meat. The service was extremely slow. The only pluses were great salsa and comfy booths, but that won't be enough to bring us back to the restaurant again.

El Senor Sol is clean, professional and out to drown me in margaritas. The service faster than you can say "Maybe I should have ordered the small?", but I've never felt rushed to leave. They sort of eliminate the need for appetizers with entrees that come out within 10 minutes of sitting down. During my most recent visit, we were lucky enough to be seated at the window, which had a great view of the mesa to the north as the sun set on Golden. I ordered the medium marg (32 oz, I think) and my BF got the large (a ridiculous 60 oz). We were discussing how old we'd be once were finished them when our food came. We both did combination platters at 11.99 each, I think. I really enjoyed their black beans, which were slightly seasoned--they had no problem with me subbing re-fried with them--and their rice has bits of veggies and fresh herbs in it (the BF complained about that though, he said it wasn't like that before). The chicken enchilada I ordered with my combo went unfinished, as there wasn't as much cheese as chicken, which was a bit dry. I finally had a crispy relleno that satisfied my craving, as the plate was not too smothered and it was truly a bit crsipy. I really like the decor for it's cheerful, brightly colored, stereotypical Mexican theme. It's pulled of well and so clean it could be Disney World. I've never been a huge fan of Mexican food, but I recommend this place to people all the time. I am really surprised about the claims made in the one-star reviews. I know that there can be bad experiences everywhere, but I read those reviews wondering if we're talking about the same place.

Not great but good. Tacos doradas and queso fundido were good gluten free apps. The Carne adobada were not gf but dang tasty. Can't wait to go explore the rest of the menu. The restaurant was clean and friendly.

Yummm this authentic Mexican eatery is top on my list. The staff is friendly, the food is just plain good, and the decor is laughable yet fitting. They get bonus points for giving my friends and me the leftover "beer ponchos" they had on display from Cinco de Mayo!

There is a serious lack of good Mexican food on the northwest side of town. This is as good as it gets. Yes, service is inconsistent, but it is okay and better than many others. The food is not really authentic, but most people have no idea what 'authentic' Mexican food really is. For 'americanized mexican' food, it doesn't get any better than this. From the crisp warm chips (needs more salt) and delicious salsa to any of the entree's, I've never been dissapointed. Furthermore, El Senor Sol is less expensive than most other Mexican restaurants that have far inferior food! For anyone on the west - northwest end of town, I highly recommend this place.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
